    DO NOT GIVE UP!
Two years ago my daughter finally recovered from psychotic depression.
I sat with her for 12 years of absolute hell - suicide attempts, epileptic seizures, the works.
I gave my life to her because I believed in her strength.
She is married now and I have a beautiful grandson.
You can do this. I've watched quite a few of your vlogs and I believe in you.
I'm now 70 years old and finally I have happiness.
You too will find your space in this world.
    I'm watching.

James, bro, it takes BALLS to do what you just did in this video! Putting yourself in front of all of us and being totally honest and transparent! That takes some guts, my friend! I am so stoked that you are taking this condition serious and are in therapy. I guarantee you that there are a lot of people watching your videos every day, because they are dealing with similar issues. Those people don't necessarily comment or subscribe or give it a like. They are watching because they are too afraid of doing what you are doing. They watch because they can relate to you and your videos gives them a sense of well-being because they realize that it is not just THEM! You are showing us that we are not alone! Great job, James! Continue to update us. We all love you, bro! We're all in your corner and pulling for you! You will get past this 'season' in your life, I promise! Good things are coming your way!

Yes, James, we're all sending mad love and healing vibes in your direction! I wish more people were brave enough to talk about mental health. It's so important to talk to someone about how we're feeling and how we're doing in life and so many people are scared to because of the stigma. I found my brother, who took his life in 2007, please don't do that to your family. I'm still in therapy for depression and PTSD, from what I experienced that day. Just know that your being on this earth is important, to so many of us! Actually, to anyone who made it this far in my comment, you're loved as well. 🤟 If anyone ever needs someone to talk to about anything, I'm the most non-judgmental person there is. I'm also a member of the alphabet mafia. I know some members of the LGBTQ community feel more comfortable talking to someone who can relate, which is why I mentioned that. PEACE, LOVE, UNITY and RESPECT to you all. 🕊❤👬👫👭

The cycle can be overwhelming. I almost unalived myself 11 years ago. It would have been a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Change is difficult. I struggle some days still, but my life is of value. You never know what future you will achieve. A few days after this past Christmas I was driving home after shopping and saw a house on fire. Long story - short: I saved a mans life. I matter.

The pain he was feeling has been magnified and spread to everyone who loved him and even to those that just knew him. Losing him is agony for the family. Keep talking. I am no expert, but being an EMT on a very busy Rescue Squad for over 30 years, I have responded to many medical calls, trauma related incidents, and other very difficult events. Brotha, you dont want all that extra challenge in your life, or for those who love you.
So, believe me when I say, take it one hour at a time, then when that feels comfortable take it one day at a time, etc... From what I can tell from your video comments, you have a very caring & loving family and quite the competent therapist. Listen to her, trust her, and also feel brave enough [like you did in this video] to speak freely to your mom/dad, don't feel the need to hide your feelings whether they are negative or positive thoughts. You note that you want to live a long life, which is awesome, but to do so you must work at it even as hard as it can get. Your support systems are there, sooo take advantage of them, don't neglect them or yourself.
You have a very important purpose on this Earth, it may not be 100% clear quite yet, but at the right time it will be!! Be patient. But, look closely at what you have done to date; you have brought together so many people of various backgrounds, ages, experiences to teach them how to cope, find help, and try so very hard at things that are very difficult. You are an example to others, please know this!!
I know you don't know me from Adam, or possible care to even listen to me, but I rarely comment on most folks' RUclips videos, but you have encouraged me to send this note tonight. That says something about you to encourage this old medical tired responder to sit down and say "good on you" and that you are worthy of a happy life. Yes, it is tough, but nothing in life as important as this is easy youngman.
Make your mark, own it, and continue sharing your life & experiences with your RUclips family. We are here to hear you, encourage you, praise you, and just listen to you.
Thank you for being you; and never ever forget your worth to yourself, those around you, and us your virtual friends.

man, i can relate to this a lot. i used to feel this way and honestly i can only say that it WILL stop. what i learned is that it will stop eventually, and i think thats the most bittersweet thing to experience. knowing that youre going to feel better some day, just not when. but the important thing is the fact that its gonna happen, and not the uncertainty.
i can tell you that i feel a lot better nowadays, and its only been 1-2 years. dark points or dead ends in life, do still happen, and they will always happen, and its hard to keep a positive mindset throughout. all i can say is - you dont have to always have a happy mindset, especially not in these extremely low points. but thats okay. its okay, because youre not supposed to be perfect, youre your own person. you ecperience good things, and bad things, and you will feel happy - and sad. thats life.
what helps me keep an uplifting mindset now is the thought: "man, im so glad i didnt unalive myself back then". "im so glad i didnt do it", whenever i have a good moment. it doesnt have to be something crazy. just waking up on a sunny summer day, being greeted by my purring cat and eating my favorite food. man, im so so proud of myself for never going through with it.
take it easy on yourself. you dont have to force yourself to be happy, or ask yourself: "shit, why does everyone seem to be able to cope with this but me?". just do what brings you happiness, or peace. watch sunsets, if you like them. go to mcdonalds, take yourself out for some dinner or a soda. and in these moments, remember that its your strenght and your braveness that brought you there. you can be grateful for yourself because nobody else but you made it possible that youre able to enjoy this nice moment for yourself.
this isnt supposed to be crazy good advice, i just hope that i can share what helps me enjoy life, instead of fearing it. cause ive been there. and i promise, youll get out of it.
hoping and wishing the best for you man. i usually dont write comments and i hope this doesnt come off as corny or anything. just wanted to share what maybe wouldve helped 13-18 year old me.

Personally I started to understand I must accept the things I can't change and to figure out what I can then just focus on that. Your journal may very well be a great thing to start with. The fact you're even seeking help is great too. I also came across this quote one day that says "Suicide doesn't end the pain, it passes it to the ones you love and remains." I won't sit here and sound too cliche bc I sure know how much I hate that. I did want to leave a comment for what it's worth though and I hope you stay strong and don't give up yet.

The Zoloft has helped tremendously, but you may not be in a hood age range for it. People's reactions to antidepressants vary widely, so it's up to your physician or psychiatrist. I think trying to connect maybe even be friends with your roommate could be a great idea. My best friend has also truly been through it, so we can support each other really well. And I'm sure your parents love you so much and their support is important. The plan sounds like a good one. Please stay. The world needs you and believe me, your life will get brighter. [fierce bear hugs] It will get better.

I hope you're doing okay man, I'm sorry you're going through all this, and I wish there were things I could say to help, beyond simple "it gets better", because I know how infuriating those words can be. The only thing i can say is to Never isolate yourself. The only thing worse than hell is a lonely hell. Doing that brought me to my lowest point, i've been blessed(and cursed, jokingly) With family members and friends who will pull me out of bed by the hair if I start sleeping through the days, and those people probably saved me more than a few times. I want to stress My lowest points may not be anywhere near what you're experiencing, but I wanted to post something that might help... Maybe remind yourself to not isolate with sticky notes. Yo dude, just got this vid recommended to me. I've struggled with mental health my entire life, and I can relate to a lot of what you're saying here.
I just wanted to say, keep pushing man. No matter what, just keep pushing. I'm not going to sugarcoat things and say "Oh life will become fantastic and you will never feel this way again!" or tell you any fantasies, but I will say that your darkest moments will pass with time.
I always view my struggles as being stuck at the bottom of a well. When you're at the deepest part of the well, it's completely dark, and it genuinely feels like you're never going to see the light again. But somehow, time after time, by just pushing through life, you end up climbing to a point in that well where you can see the light again. You might not be completely out of the well, but just seeing that light, that hope, is enough to keep going.
I just keep pushing out of spite at this point. There's so much in life that upsets me, or triggers my mental health, that just me continuing to live each day is my way of saying "Fuck you" to the things that trouble me. That thought also helps me.
Maybe some of this can help you, maybe you can relate to some of it. Just want to let you know you're not alone, and I know things will get better for you man! Just keep pushing through it, I believe in you!
P.S.: Oh also, keep at the journaling! Writing my thoughts down helps me tremendously. If you have time as well, look into meditation! It's a very hard skill to master, but it has really helped me maintain my mental health. There are lots of guided meditations on RUclips and that's what I use!

Hi there. I just recently came across your channel the first video of you that I saw was when you said you told your parents about how you are suicidal or think about it and seeing this video makes me want to sort of cry I would’ve been your friend if I known you. But I don’t and stranger danger. But all I got to say is that it will get better. I’m sorry to hear you struggle so much. You aren’t alone in these Mental illness or mental challenges. It takes GUTS and such Bravery and Courage to share how you feel online like you did I also saw your video that said crying doesn’t make a man weak and I Agree! If you need me, reply to this comment. All of these people saw this video and saw you struggling and want to help, Your feelings and thoughts matter and your Mind too!!

I'm so pleased for you that you're working on getting your power back, choosing your behaviors. It's actually a big deal to be getting control of your life. I understand about symptoms showing back up, but it's about the progress, not getting it perfect. I hope you can remember that you deserve to live well, and you're learning, just like everybody else. Keep going and don't worry. Aim at your goals, but don't give yourself a hard time for not being perfect. I've had a lot of experience with this crap. I'm a 77 year old grandmother who is a recovering alcoholic. I'm happy to be someone who can help have your back. If we can circle around you and help you get back from the edge, I can't think of anything happier. Good luck, dear boy!

You can do this!!! I’m 19, also thinking starting college is scary asf thinking abt it- I rarely went to school due to Covid in first years, and being in treatment in later years, so school just scares me- I don’t have the confidence, but I’m working on it in therapy. I told myself, and my close friends that I wanted to live, but dude is still hard asf fighting it, but I know I can do it. it has gotten so much better, like I feel more alive now- I’m more self aware of my feelings, and that self awareness you have right now will keep you alive. Knowing what ur feeling, and that you truly need the help means improvement. If you end up in the psychiatric unit that doesn’t take away what you have done to get better, so never beat yourself up if that happens; sometimes life just gets tough, and you’re gonna need the extra help.

Hey man, I don't usually comment on RUclips videos but your video reminds me how I was at the beginning of this year, and still fight with this sometimes, but around February I hit my rock bottom, was extremely depressed, and had unmedicated OCD, which is a anxiety disorder, around the end of February I told my parents on how I was feeling, and after, one of the things they told me was do you need to be sent to a mental hospital, and honestly man, at the time I probably did need to but I told them no because I wanted that to be a last resort, so I took the time that I had to recover, Going to the gym is a good start, just keep working at it and building consistency but what I recommend is walking, listing to music outside, getting your thoughts straight, and just have that time by yourself while not being in your room, I hope this helps and take one day at a time, be patient with this process, and I wish you the best of luck man.

    Gday from Australia mate!
I was in the same place when i was in my twenties.....dark thoughts, therapy....meds.....
    I thought I was never going to be okay......until I went to a comic/cosplay convention...on my own...to break the routine of life.....one thing I always loved...Ghostbusters.
Move forward to today......I drive a ghostbusters car which I use to do charity work with kids and show at conventions, I cosplay ghostbusters......but over the years, Im now 50, Ive met so many incredible and talented people and a lot of them have become life long friends....I found myself so happy by the time I was 30 I had actually forgotten I had depression...never needed meds or therapy again.
The take away from my life for you I hope is this......dont dwell on how things are with you just now......do what you are doing now, take it easy, chill, be kind to yourself, dont be harsh on yourself....keep going the gym, keep going out and being with those you like.....and yes your personal hygiene routine is just as important to a healthy mind and body....another thing....if you look good...youll feel good.....get some new Nikes, Asics, Addidas trainers, splurge a little on some cool threads! Remember to put a little away as well...that will make you feel good as well.
Remember a few good, close friends are better than a lot you dont really connect with.
Simply go and do anything that makes you feel alive and happy....and anything that gets the heart rate up and the adrenaline glowing.....hit a theme park now and then, go for walks outdoors, the beach is also a great place....think of lifes possibilities!
Most of all, your young....plenty of time to let things sort themselves out...and they will.
Lastly, remember...you are your own best friend as well!
Hang in there, you will be just fine😊

Oh Buddy, don't focus on the angst of your youth. When I was 19 the best friend I ever had killed himself and a few years before another best friend did the same. I was totally alone after that and tried to kill myself passively several times. I struggled like HELL to get past that and today I am 59 and a survivor who has spent the majority of my life trying to help young men to see that there is a future and happiness is not an illusion. In North Carolina where I live I have worked with many counties mental health systems to help. I have a degree in Psychology. I just constantly think what would by best friends lives have been like had they not committed suicide. It even makes me sad to this day to even think about. No matter what, no matter how sad you get never forget the ones who love you. I love you and pray for you since I found this page. Be strong!!

Hey dude, I just wanna say I've been in a similar situation and to sum it up life sucked. Yea it absolutely sucked, but I'm not gonna get into that rn. My point is I was able to start to feel joy again and I didn't think it was possible, I genuinely didn't think I'd ever feel happy again (tbh back then I didn't even care if I did.) From that experience, I realized that challenges don't last forever, pain is temporary, and I know it seems like you'll feel this way forever. I struggled with depression since I was 12, and now I'm almost 17. I still struggle with it but I am doing significantly better. So I know that you're beyond exhausted, like that doesn't even go to describe the feeling. You feel broken beyond broken, and wonder "like how is it even possible to sink so low?" But please for your sake and your families and even mine, just keep doing what you're doing. You are moving in the right direction, and you can do this, you are strong enough to face any challenge (even if you don't feel like you are.) I'm proud of you, okay?

But you got this.. keep reaching out to people and if the thoughts get bad, don't allow yourself to be alone. !!!!

I have been struggling with these same feelings, they can be hard to put into words especially when there isn’t a main cause to it. For example something I would always think is, I am so lucky to have this life and nothing is going wrong why am I so sad? My thoughts used to be way worse than how they are today, but it is a constant battle just know it will and does get better and the thoughts might still revisit you here and there but you just have to stay strong. Life is so so special and you make it so special for many people. I wish I could reach through the screen and just hug you right now. Hope is very tricky. On one hand, hope can act as a torturous tether that binds us to expectations, to better days ahead that will never come. Hope does not just prolong suffering, it offers the illusion of comfort while keeping us in perpetual longing and when our dreams shatter, Hope plunges us into Despair.
The solution lies in shifting our relationship with hope, viewing it not as a passive wish, but as an active force that pushes us towards action, growth, and transformation. It is about embracing Hope as a catalyst for change, encouraging us to strive for better, regardless of the outcomes. Rather than being attached to a specific future, we can see hope as a tool for shaping the present and creating a positive impact.

I’m not saying that to force you to go, but they really are helpful if you need it. Each time I’ve been there I’ve gotten more answers as to what is going on in my head. The psychiatrists and people at the hospital can be really helpful if you open up to them about what is going on. I’ll be thinking of you and I hope you take the steps that are necessary for your mental health. If you feel depressed or like you want to unalive yourself, please call 988 or tell your parents to take you to the emergency room. Again, I’m sorry that this is happening and I hope we can all come together to support you in whatever way we can.

Hey, idk if ur gonna see this but i really really hope you get through this. I know its hard and there are days you feel like absolute shit and just want to completely give up. My dad found out about me self harming in february and immediately took me to a psychiatrist. Its been shit the last few months and i've thought about ending it too. But there are still so many things i want to experience. Its frustrating, really. I got diagnosed with anxiety and mild depression; honestly it feels like my dad is ashamed of all this. I know there are so many people who care about me but i cant help but feel so alone. Im trying to do better every single day. And i'm proud of you too, for making it this far. I'm rooting for you dude, dont give up :)

As a young man I was filled with fear and very lonely. I put on a brave face every day because I wanted to be seen from the outside rather than the inside. It wasn't until I got older and learned that everyone is that way to some degree. It's why fashion, flashy cars and big homes exist. To make people look better from the outside than they feel on the inside. Having gone through that in my formative years I gradually learned that those people (and what they think) doesn't really matter to me. As a result I became wealthy and successful. I'm in charge of my surroundings and have hobbies, like racing my cars, that are rewarding to me. Don't fall into the trap of using your channel for validation. Validation is within you. Find it and be proud of yourself. Everyone else can kiss your ass.....lol.

    Hi Jwool,
It is a skill that not everyone has, looking into a camera and making a mature "broadcast"; making sense to a wide variety of people, expressing complex emotions and issues and **communicating** ideas that matter. Thousands and thousands of people cannot do what you are doing. With this gift you are going to go far.
I don't always finish listening to RUclips messages. I listened intently to yours all the way through. So, you have an important gift. Make the most of it. Change the world!
    (Big hug), Steve.

I just did my freshman year at college and it was life changing for my mental health in a positive way. Hang in you will be surprised how much your life will change. Also give it at least a month no one loves the first few weeks

Dude, from what I've seen in your video, you are doing the right thing with coping mechanisms. I've been going through a rough time dealing with layoffs and am doing some of the same things you are doing: exercise, journaling, hanging with friends, etc.
It is great you are willing to be open about your struggles, as it destigmatizes mental health treatment and you can help so many guys be less fearful about seeing a therapist. Stay strong through the trials and tribulations.
I found your channel a few days ago and love your content! Liked and subscribed!

🙏 I've done self harm and I hope you do well. I moved to Japan a year ago and I can't have friends. :/ It feels like Japanese people don't care about you. When I was in America, my friends would try making me feel better but in Japan, my "friends" don't do anything. One year of living here has made me think of killing myself and made me do self harm but no matter what frickin' happens, I shall live, and you shall also live, happily.

Stay strong dude! 🫶 it’s completely okay to not feel okay. I’ve had my fair share of shitty mental health and it sucks. Sometimes it would cause me to fear for my sanity and feel anxiety 24/7. I’ve found peace in the simplicity of nature and media I like. Like you said, it’s okay to take things light and easy. Hope you feel better!
