    Have we been Pre-washing our vehicle wrong?
    watch to the end to find out how you can get involved
    This week while testing which Pre-wash method is better for a daily driver , pre-wash spray , snow foam or a mix of both somthing really random happened with my results and this video was born so excuse the camera work as it wasn't planned out so was a little impromptu.
    Also i no way is this a scientific test so many factors can change the results however comparing my results on this day it's changed the way think I'll be Pre-washing my vehicle , however I can't explain why these results happened , maybe you can ? maybe you can test this theory yourself and let me know in the comments .
    thanks for watching

    I think applying the foam so quickly maybe diluting or rinsing off the stronger product, so giving the prewash as long as possible before adding foam would be ideal I suppose if you want to prewash in one hit.
    I’m sure everyone will get better results from prewash-rinse- snowfoam-rinse, as the panel has had double the rinsing and both chemicals had chance to dwell alone on the dirt.
    Another note is there are only a handful of snowfoams that actually have much cleaning power and they will never match a strong prewash spray, if you think about PIR the neat spray is hitting the panel at 100%, the snowfoam I assume is 10% in the lance then with added water from pressure washer hitting the panel at about 1-2% depending on your set up…. I’m just thinking aloud and forgot my point now 😂

      🤣🤣🤣 it's got people thinking so altho it doesn't look like it due to cuts and me not moving camera the pre-wash was dwelling for 4 to 5 mins before layering with foam and on the other side after 4 to 5 mins the dirt was removed so has the snowfoam reversed the effectiveness of the pre-wash spray . After 4 to 5 mins I was expecting the foam to just go over and take the pre-wash spray and loosened dirt off but I didn't in don't know 😂 it's confused me slightly

    That pre wash product removed so much it makes me wonder why the need to snow foam as well unless it’s to soften the dirt further before you contact wash. Good video either way Mr Hairy.

      Thank you, so the pre-wash removes so much dirt it's unreal , the snow foam just softens any existing dirt on the vehicle and just adds another step to reduce the chances of scratching. This Pre-wash is exceptionally good tho

    I have always followed the same process pre-wash snow fome but after watching this, it makes perfect sense, all the snow fome is doing is diluting the pre-wash, it’s probably the same when you put fallout remover on your wheels and then cover that in shampoo.

    I've just re watched this......and I've already commented previously but I wanted to update my thoughts. It seems the snowfoam applied onto the prewash might have rinsed it away and I've had similar. So what ive started to do on the proper mingers is allow the pre wash to dwell longer maybe the 5 or 6 minutes depending on temperature and then apply the snowfoam on top to keep it there for a further 5 minutes. This has then given me superb results everytime. 👌👌

    Housewife, I couldn't wait, found a car that was a little dirty, washed it with valet pro prewash, rinse, BH Autofoam and rinse, then a super suds mitt wash and rinse. I definitely noticed that the car was cleaner before I got to the mitt wash. The paint was flat too, so I whacked on the TW hydrophobic sealant, which I usually struggle with as a spray on wipe off, but this time I applied to a microfibre pad instead, so much easier to use. My dad is very happy 😊

    Interesting.
    But then again im kinda doing that during winter time.
    I normally use 4-8% pir. Bilt Hamber autofoam as a prewash spiked with 4% pir. SurfexHD in the winter time.
    Sometimes if dirty enough i give a prewash with 4-6% pir. surfexHD wait 4-5 mins then a rinse and a normal prewash with 4-8% pir. Autofoam before doing hand wash with Autowash 5-6ml 10L bucket.
    When all is cleaned i use BH QD as water removal aid at 1:20mix then use it as a QD 1:2mix for toping off the Double speed wax covering the car.
    Ofcourse when i get the nasty tar spots i use ValetPro Tar and Glue remover after prewash before the hand wash, and usually top off the area with a dap of wax before the QD stage.
    If the tar spot was a big one or a very hard one to remove, because the harder it is the more i take of the wax coat in the process.

    @coletorrens1121 Год назад +1

    As stated in other comments, the foam dilutes the pre wash.Its all really semantics. You cant clean a car without contact, which is what everyone is missing. Its really about getting the grit off and softening the traffic film. You have to have contact and what ever method you use it still has dirt left for the contact wash, Using a good shampoo that lubricates and a mitt which is cleaned /turned after every panel is the key to the no scratches. And lets not get into how many buckets.... its been done to death. It simply doesnt matter what method you use so long as the mitt is clean!

    • @TheHairyHouseWife
      @TheHairyHouseWife  Год назад

      Hey cheers for your comment , however I get that snow foam will dilute the pre-wash if applied instantly after applying the pre-wash spray has been added , however as stated in the video Pre-wash can sit for 4-5 mins it removes dirt , if you let it sit for 4-5 mins then put foam over the top it seems to reverse the effect of the pre-wash, showing that the snowfoam reverses the effect of they Pre-wash spray
      After 4-5 mins the pre-wash makes the dirt come of with ease, but once the snowfoam went over the top it seemed to make that dirt cling back to the vehicle
      It's providing a theory that snowfoam over Pre-wash isn't the most effective way of using these two products contrary to popular belief, altho others may get different results.
      It's true a good contact wash method is definitely key to reducing marring and scratching, but using the correct Pre-wash method reduces that even more , removing as much dirt, grit and traffic film before touching the car with a contact wash is ideal
      That was the idea of this video showing that smacking a foam over the pre-wash even tho it had dwelled wasn't the most effective way in this instance and maybe we need to rethink how we Pre-wash ,
      Every stage of cleaning will reduce the chances of scratchs , and if we can do these the most effective way possible it's definitely worth taking those steps

    Very interesting, thank you. I stopped using snow foam about 6 months ago. I originally thought they were good for coated cars but very limited for non-coated cars. I found KKD citrus Magic v2 pre wash and applied through a snow foam lance it cleaned better than any snow foam I had tried. Plus you end up ankle deep in run off with a snow foam which is a pain if you are detailing on a drive outside someone’s house. That said I do check results and sometimes go for a second pre wash if required. Auto Glanz and Infinty Wax citrus pre washes are also fantastic.

    • @TheHairyHouseWife

      I haven't tried the auto glanz one I got to try infity wax not so long ago and was impressed, yeah snow foam definitely works well on coated cars and it does make a mess , however it does have a benefit of helping remove gritt that maybe in places the pre-wash doesn't get to however a good Pre-wash can really make the job so much Easier. Thanks for the comment ❤️

    I often thought that putting snowfoam on top of a pre wash spray must dilute it down and almost wash it off. Even though you here people say it helps dwell longer. When I done my car yesterday I made sure that the pre wash was on there for a bit before blanketing it with snowfoam in the hope it had worked.

      Yeah same as this video I know my cuts don't make it look like it but the pre-wash spray has sat for 5 mins before the foam goes on so why did it reverse the lifting power of the spray , if I was to rinse before putting foam on it lifts the dirt if this makes sence

    Interesting to see, I love these types of tests! What was the reason for using a high alkaline snowfoam and not just a neutral foam?
    I expect most people would layer with a neutral foam, would they not? Don’t know how that would change the test but personally I wouldn’t really think to put an alkaline foam over a pre-wash

    • @TheHairyHouseWife
      @TheHairyHouseWife  Год назад +1

      Hey thanks for the comment , the reason I used both high alkaline was because the original test was supposed to be "best Pre-wash method for a winder daily driver " and If I had used a high alkaline Pre-wash and a pH nutral foam it would have been in the comments unfair test 🤣 then this happened and changed the whole video , I have since tried with a pH nutral foam and had the same results. 😁

    I've tried .......
    rinse , apc, rinse
    Apc on dry, rinse
    Rinse ,Snowfoam ,rinse
    Snowfoam on dry , rinse
    (Both seemed to do very little )
    Rinse, apc, foam on top ,rinse
    But Sunday got better results
    Apc on dry panel , Snowfoam on top rinse.
    I use surfex hd at 10% in sprayer
    Magifoam only 50ml per 450ml water.
    BUT I think what helped more than ever left it quite a while longer , went inside made a coffee, dink coffee then rinse off .
    In this cold overcast weather thinking better to leave it all on longer ?
    Next wash will try
    Apc on dry panel, rinse
    Snowfoam rinse
    At first I thought must be the two rinses you did but I've tried rinse , foam, rinse and didn't seem to do much at all .
    Must be 2 rinses and 2 separate layers of chemicals that's helping ?
    Rather than layering up chemicals like we have always done.
    Doing it your new way will use same products just in a different way, would seem to me that first chemical seems most effective on dry panel .
    Will report back after next wash...........and breathe

    As the pre-wash was drying on the left, what did you spray on top of it - more pre-wash, or just water?
    If the plan is to just use citrus and no foam, then surely it would be better to pressure wash that off (as you would in practice) rather than add more spray to it to increase the dwell time.
    And if adding foam on top of citrus pre-wash, I think you'd be better with a thicker foam, as that runny foam just seemed to wash the pre-wash away.

    • @TheHairyHouseWife
      @TheHairyHouseWife  4 месяца назад +1

      Had to quickly go back to jog my memory it was just water to keep the pannel wet and not allow the Pre-wash to dry , probably should have clarified that , the reason I didn't rinse it off at that point was because I didn't want to effect the results of the foam test by accidentally rinsing it off , if that makes sense in practice Pre-wash then let it dwell and rinse.
      Now that could be the case the foam pulling the Pre-wash off the car however it kinda reinforces my point that it's better to rinse then foam the car ,
      Layering to me has been a completely pointless exercise it's always effected the results,
      I think either Pre-wash then foam or if it's hot people like foam over citrus to help the dwell time then I would say skip the Pre-wash and buy a stronger snowfoam
