HOW TO Tie BRAIDED Fishing Line to MONOFILAMENT or Fluorocarbon Leader- Easy and Strong Fishing Knot

  • Video demonstrates a very easy and strong fishing knot for connecting braided line to your monofilament leader. This fishing knot is very strong and is easy to tie.
    The knot is very similar to the Albright, technically the Reverse Albright but with the addition of the Surgeons Loop to close off the braid instead of having the open loop
    In the past I had used barrel swivels for my monofilament leaders and ran into problems with the barrel getting hung up in the rods tip and breaking the guide's ring. This knot when finished has a very low profile and goes through the guides on my fishing rods very cleanly.
    The striped bass and bluefish I target fishing the Fire Island Inlet in New York have put this knot to the test over the past several years and I have not had the knot fail at all.
    Maybe Tonight Fishing Charters fishes the waters of Great South Bay and Fire Island Inlet on Long Island's south shore for striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, fluke and other local species.

    this is my go-to knot for jigging, but i do a bimini twist or a spider hitch to double my braid, but the yucatan knot is on point, and the best part is that you can easily change leaders without damaging the double line.

    For those having it fail, especially with floro, instead of 10 turns, give it more like 18. Solved the problem of slipping and has held many 30+ lb salmon. Thanks, great knot.

    I've tied this knot and repeatedly tested it, I used 50lb braid and 50lb mono leader, in all my tests it took considerable pressure to break it, much much more than you'd expect from 50lb line

    NO MONO SLIP IF TIED CORRECTLY (as in video ~ 3:00-3:30 min): This knot is unlikely to slip unless it is not cinched down correctly. If you are having trouble with the mono slipping out then carefully re-watch the Captain's video from about 3-3:30 min. Pay close attention to how the Captain carefully forms the knot with the braid-loop coming straight down at the end of the braid-twists--tightening only after the loop is seated. (I'm pretty sure I saw this solution somewhere on this site but I don't remember where/who. Anyway this tip fixed it for me.)
    Thanks Captain--I subscribe to your channel and watched many of your videos because I always learn a lot from you. Please keep up the good work and keep them coming.

    I have been looking at many different ways to joint the two lines. This was to me the easiest way to do so. I decided to try and skip the first step and just double the line and do the turns. It works just as will, the only reason I did this is because I did not like that loop in the braid. It has worked well for me.

  • @MichaelRitger
    @MichaelRitger 10 лет назад +5

    This is a solid connection that won't slip. However, it can be made much stronger.
    The Yucatan knot tied here is great. Just make sure you use enough wraps: as many as 18 with lighter mono, as few as 7 with heavy (60lb+). The surgeon's loop is weaker, so it will be your failure point. To make an stronger connection, a 50-turn Bimini twist can be used in the braid to make the loop. A good Bimini is a 100% knot, and it's easy to tie in braid (easier than in mono). A better knot means you can scale down to thinner braids for longer casts and less drag in the water.

  • @vmelo28
    @vmelo28 10 лет назад +7

    this is a yucatan knot without the surgeon loop at the begining. i used this knot on my rods but had trouble getting it to hold on thinner line. surgeons loop helped to eliminate that issue

    Hi Tom, sure thing, the rod in this video is from Star Rods, it is in their Stellar Surf series and is a 8ft spinning rod. The model number is SG80IS and you will not BELIEVE how inexpensive they are. And inexpensive does NOT mean it's lacking any quality at all!!! Just incredible quality and durability at such a low price. The reel on the rod is a Quantum CABO 30 spooled with 30lb braid, WONDERFUL combo!!! I'd think you could even go with a Cabo 40 on this stick. Thanks for coming by, Capt Paul

    The monofilament or fluorocarbon line keeps the braid from slipping on the reel spool. I usually cover the reel spool with about 15-20 yds of mono before putting on the braid.
    Hope this helps. Tight lines :)

    love how quick this knot is made and it makes totaly sense to be very strong like that. I think it looks even stronger than the albright or 7-11. I am just not sure if it realy glides trough a smaller tip guide without any problems, especialy when casting lures hard all day long with a baitcaster-combo..what do you say?

    Used this knot to connect 30lb fluoro to 20lb braid. Simple knot, should not have failed. Even used your trick for lubricating the knot, pulled in nice and tight. Lost tube and worm lure and fish 10 seconds in, reeled up intact surgeons knot in braid, fluoro was gone.

      Tony S WOW!! that's new one too me with this knot. Sorry to hear about the lost rig, I couldn't even imagine where it went wrong with you stating it was snugged down tight. That would be the first thing I'd think of but doesn't sound like the case here. :-( I can tell you if that happened to me I too would be looking for another method but thankfully I've not had that.

  • @MaybeTonightCharters
    @MaybeTonightCharters  11 лет назад

    BMN, I use 30lb braid and 25 lb mono for stripers, blues. But it would depend on your outfit. These that I am talking about would be considered heavier tackle for casting large lures and fishing the live baits. For lighter tackle you can drop down to 10 or 20lb braid. Thats a good one for fluking too :-)

    Not bad... looks a lot like the aussie quickie knot (which you can find on RUclips). It is a good knot for most but not all fishing situations. I used one at the Monte Bello island of Western Australia and it lasted about 2 days jigging up bottom fish around the 8-15kg mark. But it is definitely no replacement for the PR or FG knot if you are chasing GT's, kingfish etc.

    The is a really nice knot. I like the fact that it is so small.
    I have the mechanics of the knot down. The only problem i continually have is that the mono keeps slipping. I am sure the braid loop is where it should be at the end. But slipping keeps happening.
    I must have tried making the knot 50 times, and i get the same result.
    I saw a video that you have awhile ago that showed the making of the knot, and on that video, the position of the braid loop was key to it working.
    I don't what i am doing wrong, Can you help?
    Thanks

  • @jabman549
    @jabman549 10 лет назад

    .Try tightening it at the same time by spreading the loop of the braid - this seams to gather the knot better and allow it to cinch itself.....had the same problem at first - in response to people who experience "slipping" of the knot.

    Yes. Sorry for my mistake. It`s double grinner.
    Actually I make a test for any knot I use and with your knot a mono allways breaks at the knot. Try it.
    So far I was using yucatan knot. If you make it perfect it is strong and 100% strenght knot.
    Double Grinner is complicated but it`s good as well. Maybe I `ll make a video for that knot and test it for your reference as well with yucatan knot.
    Thanks for regards and I wish you a great season too.

    The Power Pro I have is unused still on the spool looks new but is over 7 years old. Perhaps Power Pro from back then was a lot slippier than what they make now. I tried it several times. In the past my biggest problem was with the power pro fraying on the end and then those fibers slip into the knot and the whole thing comes apart. I have started using a soldering iron to burn off the end but you probably don't have a soldering iron on the boat. :). so I was looking for something better.

    Since making this video I have learned from folks posting here that the name of this knot is the Yucatan knot. For years I never knew it :-) Cheers!!
