I've been trying to figure out what stimulant would be helpful for my ADHD ( with previously prescribed medicine from my doc ). I tried 5mg and then 10mg Amphetamine drugs and within less than a week it wasn't effective for me. It would start off good for a day or two and just be intolerable after like day 5. Something interesting I stumbled upon though was that the Bupropion ( generic Wellbutrin ) helped with the withdrawals ( depression / anxiety ) of stopping the Amphetamines.
On day one I noticed a reduction in fatigue... absolutely unbelievable. I never had that type of response with an SSRI. It took about two months to significantly help the depression, but now I feel like I have my life back! Fingers crossed it continues to work going forward :)
Oh it can take 2 months uff. I´m at week 4 and i´m impatient since day 2 because may people reported that thy had an effect from first day on. But are you on 150? And no increasing of the dose ssince you started?
I’m so glad you covered this medication. My husband and I both take it for depression and/or ADHD. I like it so far but as I approach winter I’ll ask for a bump in the dose because I suffer from S.A.D.
Hey Sarah- Thanks so much for taking the time to check out this video and for sharing your experience! I apologize for how long it has taken me to get back to you. I had a baby at the end of August and I'm trying to get caught back up! I'm so happy to hear that you found this video to be helpful. This is a great medication choice in those who have the double whammy of depression and ADHD. I also have a lot of patients who will do a temporary bump in the dose if they have seasonal patterns where their mood takes a dip during the fall/winter time. i’m 14 years old and i’ve been prescribed this, i was afraid because this was the first time ive been on medication. i was afraid of starting it and this definitely helped and made sure that if i feel anything wrong that i know im not just crazy. thank you. 😊
Just started this myself Today, because I was struggling with my Mental Health and am a high risk for depression Autism and my mother as well as siblings having it. I was prescribed 150 XL Generic and I feel Much better now, not as tired and sleepy before as my sleeping meds and before i was on this, not to mention my down in the dumps mood all the time. This Drug is a lifesaver for sure!
I’m currently taking this medication and I am 17. No approval for kids!? Online it says it isn’t approved for people under the age of 18, but I trust my psychiatrist. I’m using this to treat my ADHD and depression
It works well for us with ADHD. I take it with my adderall. It’s the only antidepressant that’s actually worked. I think it’s because it acts one dopamine slightly and norepinephrine.
Thanks for taking the time to check out this video, Laura! Hair loss is not something that I hear too often from patients given it occurs relatively infrequently (occurring between 1/100 to 1/1000 patients). @@dralywood i would be intrested in knowing why for some it works on the first day and for otherss allegedly after 8 weeks. And if its recommened or not to take it with food. I´m on week 4 and i don´t notic anything, my concern iss that the dose 150 XL won´t work, caus eits just to low for me. Could that be? And if i haven´t experieced side effects until week 4 will they occur i week 8 or so?
I hear this medication helps a lot of people, but I couldn't tolerate wellbutrin due to an acute increase in anxiety, chest tightness, and inability to sleep (I could only sleep about every 48 hrs). I felt absolutely no benefit. My symptoms were affecting life at home, but began to affect work as well. I'd have to take longer and more frequent breaks. I was on the verge of crying all day. Staying busy at work helped take my mind off things, but even that stopped working as I'd have I guess intrusive thoughts in the middle of what I was doing.
@@evanmorrison3019 around 6 months or so. They kept saying to give it time, but the symptoms kept getting worse and worse.they kept adding more meds that didn't do anything. Buspar, trazodone, etc. Just felt worse.
What dose did you start at? I took Burpropion ( Generic Wellbutrin ) a couple years ago with a different psychiatrist than what I use now and my old doc started me out at 300XL and that didn't go well for me. My current doc started me out at 150XL. I agree with the Dr. in the video that you should start at the lowest effective dose and you have to wait about 4 - 6 weeks to see the full results. From the minor amount of chatting with people online a lot of the various side effects get worked out after the initial 6 weeks and you figure out whether or not it is tolerable. Personally I'm going with the XL version because I don't want spike of the medicine throughout my day. I was having sleep issues with XL a couple weeks ago but I haven't been having them lately.
That's why I'm back at 150 XL (instead of 300). I couldn't go to sleep nor nap during the day when I actually had time for it. I still like it. It helps. Have you tried vistaril? It can help counteract sleeplessness and anxiety. An over the counter version would be Benadryl, but that will not do anything for anxiety. I use it for postpartum depression, natal depression, and seasonal depression -- most of the time or full-time, really, lol.
@jacqulineard140 tried vistaril once. Way too strong. Didn't seem to help with anxiety, but it made me feel drunk. I have a prescription for propanolol. That doesn't seem to do much either.
I was only on Wellbutrin Sr 300 mg for 4 weeks. It was cancelling out my pain med. Other than that, I did feel an improvement. I decided to stop taking it because of my level of chronic pain and my pain meds not working. In 24 hours of not taking it, I crashed. My body crashed so fast. I took one 150 mg to balance my body out. Im going to take it until they can switch me over to Auvelity. The instant withdrawal is hell. Never encountered such hell in my life!
I really hope this is the one for me. I've used a lot of SSRIs with unbearable side effects. I'm weening off lexapro tomorrow and starting wellbutrin. The Lexapro, while for the first time I didn't bad side effect, the XR 20 mg did nothing for me. The main thing I'm worried about with Wellbutrin is I have been hospitalized with seizures in the past. Obviously if I have a seizures as a side effect, I'm stopping right away
SSRI's are garbage for the most part. Wellbutrin is a great med (this is the second time I'm on it) but it *will* increase your anxiety a bit. On the positive side: no sexual side-effects and easy to wean off. You'll have more energy, less fatigue.
Thank you so much Dr. Aly for your service for the community ♥ I have recently being diagnosed as ADHD - over 45 y/o perimenopause woman with episodes of binge eating, depression, anxiety and burnout history ... finally some redemption of what I was suffering! However I am still struggling to adjust to medication ... Ritalin didn't work and I have been taking Vyvanse for about 2 months and still so many doubts about if it is REALLY working!! I had used Welbutrin years ago for smoking cessation and I believe I was well better on it rather than vyvanse, but my doctor would like to continue on the standard ADHD recommended treatment. Would Atomoxetin be then, a better option for me rather than Vyvanse? thank you for your support! :-)
I just got my Bupropion HCL 150 MG filled today. Since this mediation has a black box warning. I have to meet with my Nurse Practitioner every month. I have my bottle in my hand now. I have yet to take it. I’ve heard really great things about the medication. I got it prescribed for my depression, but especially for my ADHD. I’m hoping it does great things for me. Considering I’m not hyper, but I have a difficult time focusing and concentrating on this. I procrastinate a lot. I start wayyy to many projects that I don’t finish. With my ADHD it’s like this: Imagine being in a gymnasium with hundreds of thousands post it notes on the walls. On every post it note, there are thoughts, tasks and projects listed on them. That’s what my mind is like 24/7. The projects, thoughts, ideas and advice are really great. It will definitely benefit my life and progress me further. But I just cannot even go through step one and sit down to focus. I get so distracted easily. It’s horrible. Hopefully this medication will really help me!
Same way. But I'm at an age where I start to forget things so imagine a janitor coming in and sweeping about a thousand post-its off the wall. and you don't care...
I hear u brother. Start listening to Dr. Russell Barkleys Vida on RUclips. He has many excellent ones describing all ins n outs of adhd. When I discovered him it was like he was reading my life like a book. He is one the best if not the best expert on adhd n add.
It was working for me, very well actually. I was able to focus on things and get shit done. But I had to get off of it, because it made my heart rate increase. My main concern was that I could not focus, after getting off. I was starting school soon and I knew I would have a hard time focusing. Long behold I was struggling with school and I could not do it, so i left the program. My nurse practitioner said that her main concern was my depression so she was not going to prescribe me anything to focus. I do not want to be on a stimulant and wellbutrin is the only option for norepinephrine i believe. It worked well for my depression and helped me focus, but it does not help with anxiety. @@RideTheSkies
@Rover.71 Well, day one, it was noticeable, I was able to do things around the house easier. Some days have been nauseous, and it's had me feeling tired. But, I've noticed I laugh more, and things make me smile more. At work, the jokes are way funnier and easier to just join in the comedy. I have had moments of irritability, snaping at my wife, and then apologizing. It makes you immediately respond with the first emotion you feel. I have actually felt joy in doing things. 10 days of taking it now. Sometimes, I feel like I'm sort of foggy headed someone and having a hard time remembering details alibis immediately after a conversation. Having to write things down as I speak to people at work. It's like being tired and a little stoned, not really paying attention. Eating can make you feel nauseous and tired. Overall, I think it's helping me feel joy again. The feeling of dopamine is noticeable, and i actually think to myself, woah.. I forgot how this feels.
@Rover.71 10 days in, Pros: Quicker to laugh and smile less likely to take things personally and just laugh at jokes from co-workers. I just don't feel self-conscious or defensive or down on myself. I feel more joy from doing things I used to like. I can actually notice when dopamine is released. Cons: Sometimes irritable Sometimes nauseous after eating Feel tired and sleepy Foggy headed, i can't keep track of details. ppl talk to me about at work. So I have to write things down as they talk to me or I will just forget what they said. It's kind of like being stoned. Except your nauseous. I'm still on the ramp up. 150mg, after 30 days I am supposed to go to 300mg.
In all honesty, despite having a history of an eating disorder, I spoke to my PCP about taking Wellbutrin because SSRIs and SNRI’s catapult me into hypomanic episodes within days. My depression was getting worse to the point it was affecting my work as a nurse, so I decided to give Wellbutrin a try because I was close to offing myself. I’m on day 2, and I already notice a difference in my mood and energy. I’m not falling asleep within short hours of waking up and it actually helps my concentration. I also want to add that I’m also on Lamictal for mood stabilization. I still have anxiety, and I’ll talk to my PCP about that also. It just depends on the person.
I been proscribe this by my therapist and I must say it's help me a lot! My depression was bad, I no longer have the suicidal thoughts, I don't feel bad about myself and now I'm able to actually fall asleep I haven't dreamt in so long this medicine combined with buspirone for my anxiety has helped me a lot and I'm thankful.
I’ve been on this starting with 150 mg for about three weeks. I love the uplifting feeling it’s given me. But I am anxious and agitated. I haven’t been able to meditate since being on it. I can’t fall asleep on my own without taking melatonin. If the agitation and anxiousness doesn’t subside I might have to switch.
@@RS-zl4vs Thankfully it did go away, it took about a month. It’s really helped my depression! I still have difficulty falling asleep after almost two months on it. I take melatonin. It’s really saved me! I did a genetic test with my Dr, to see which meds would best work with me. I’m glad I payed through the negative side effects.
@@gowithin1116 glad to hear that, well i have hypersomnia which means i sleep a lot & feel sleepy after sleeping for so long so do u think i will have difficulty trying to sleep on it? were u sleeping a lot like me bc of depression?
I have been suffering from debilitating major depression since I was 20. Wellburtin is the only medication I can take, since i am on Warfarin bloodthinner!
I've been on this for 10 days now. I felt the lift right away. Night terror for one night and then done. I'm getting chest squeezing and agitation so bad. I feel so aggressive at times. I love the uplifting it has done for me, like waking in the morning but the side effect with my chest scares me so I'm weaning off. My doctor said take one every other day for a week to wean, but I'm also afraid of withdrawal and brain zaps like i had with past medicine withdrawals. So I'm choosing to cut my pill in half one day whole then half then none then half for the week-10 days. I am taking 150mg. I wished so badly that i wouldn't have any side effects because i SUFFER from manic depressive syndrome, ADHD, general anxiety, and body OCD and I smoke. The doctor said it could fix all at the same time, so obviously i had high hopes. Until side effects. 🤢 Many tell me that the side effects will calm down after some time but the chest squeezing I'm not messing around with. Heart attack runs in my lineage.
I had severe chest pain, it goes away, and it is not dangerous. When they checked me they said everything is perfect it only looks like i am having heart attack.have been taking this drug for years, it only gets better. The side effects vanish but the anxiety is under control and i have energy. Magical drug.
My doctor rx it too me but I'm scared to take it. I don't know how to overcome it. I don't want hours of anxiety and pounding heart. That's what I'm afraid of.
I used crush and snort the extended release bupropion I was prescribed for a bit and it wasn’t worth the effort of pealing it and then dealing with the absolutely vile nasal drip and I built up a tolerance really quick
I took this med for 6.5 yrs 150 mg , had no problems just started to get more irritated so I asked to move to the next dose 300 mgs 2 months ago . And just discovered I’ve developed insidious diabetes non stop drinking water and peeing around the clock and hearts palpitations, can’t sleep , nausea, headaches . Almost every single bad reaction mentioned above , I’ve had so much blood work to figure out wth is wrong with me for the last 2 months . I’ve been journaling everyday about my symptoms and reactions that day . And this med is the only med , I’ve been taking and a anti acid , and I stopped the anti acid , a couple weeks ago . I stopped the bupropion tests d low and behold , my excessive thirst and peeing stopped.,,, literally! Back to normal. Still very fatigued, but I’m very hopeful that stopping this med will restore me to at least a functioning state . The fatigue , dizziness took over my life :( so just please keep track of your reactions , even if your been on the meds 6.5 years like me . Only had bad reactions after upping the dose . Still not positive that this is the issue , but I’m keeping up with the journaling to rule out issues .
Great question- so I have had people with anxiety (and usually depression) take this and do well on it. However, because it works in dopamine and norepinephrine, some people with anxiety will not tolerate this. What we see is that anxiety, irritability, and agitation worsens after initiating treatment. I rarely use this as a solo agent on people who only have anxiety and no depression. I prefer trying BUSPAR instead. Hope this helps and don’t forget to subscribe if you found this info valuable… more videos to come! Dr. Aly
@@dralywood I love that you took the time to help, Dr. Aly. As someone whose struggling gravely with anxiety (health anxiety, agoraphobia, panic) I reached out to a nurse practitioner for some help and they are prescribing Lamotrigine and Wellbutrin which is so opposite of how I've ever been treated in the past. Zoloft was how I was treated for this condition 6 years ago. So, yeah...not sure what to do from here. I want to trust my practitioner but don't know if this will be good for me as I'm always always in a high anxiety state and feel the Wellbutrin will be insane for me.

Im about to switch to this from my ssri, mainly because adderall has been repeatedly losing effectiveness, and the possibility that some of my supposed adhd symptoms might actually be depression symptoms that my ssri isnt effectively treating For my ADHD people: ive been continuously upping my stimulant med dosage. It helps for a few days, then it'll stop having any effect whatsoever. So i take a break for a few days, up my dosage, and repeat the cycle. This has been the pattern for over 6 months. I started out on ritalin, then went over to adderall, which ive been on for 2.5 - 3 months. The entire time, it's been the same pattern, and im now on 2 25mg per day with no sustaining effective dosage appearing to settle in. Has anyone else had this experience? Whatd u do?
I noticed that the World Anti Doping Agency has adding this to their list of substances that they are considering banning the use of during performance . Do you know what kind of athletic benefits bupropion could have?
Interesting... I wasn't aware of this. I'm finding that its prohibited "in-competition only. (www.wada-ama.org/sites/default/files/resources/files/2022list_monitoring_program_final_en.pdf). I'm thinking it's likely because they are considering it a stimulant-like medication given that it affects both dopamine and norepinephrine levels. Dr. Aly
Bupropion is the only synthetic cathinone (a class of drugs commonly known as “bath salts”) approved by the FDA. (Figure 1). Its mechanism of action is achieved through inhibition of norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake, and antagonism at nicotine recptors. Cathinones are one of the most popular categories of new psychoactive substances (NPS) consumed. Cathinones have different pharmacological activities and receptor selectivity for monoamine transporters based on their chemical structures. They are incorporated into NPS mixtures and used with other NPS or ‘traditional’ drugs. Cathinone use represents significant health risks to individuals and is a public health burden. This is what the Anti-Doping stated. I love my Wellbutrin it's been amazing for years. Drug addicts like to break chemicals down and create adultrants to add to drugs.

I’m on generic Wellbutrin but the acne is tempting me to stop this but it’s the only medication that works. Could it be because it’s generic? What should I do 🥺 HELP
Hey Cait- thanks for taking the time to check out this video and for your question! Acne is a relatively unusual side effect from Wellbutrin. According to the FDA label, it is considered to be "rare"- meaning it was seen in less than 1/1,000 patients. Is there a chance that something else might be contributing as well- new lotions, new soaps, new make-up, new stressors? With that being said, some people obviously do experience this. Switching from the generic to the brand version could potentially be helpful? However, I am not 100% certain about this. Lowering the dose could also potentially be beneficial. I'd also consider talking to your treatment provider about your concerns and see if there's any strategies you could try from a dermatologic standpoint. When I got out of the Military I was given Wellbutrin to quit smoking. This stuff worked so well, that within a few days I literally hated the smell of an unlit cigarette. Within a week I had no desire. However, the side effect was unbearable. It took my libido to a very uncomfortable level. No Bueno. Luckily, the intended purpose worked so well I came off fairly quick.
Hello Doc, I was recently prescribed 150 for weight lost. I am extremely fearful. I’ve had horrible experiences with antidepressants in the past. I’m currently on cymbalta 40mg going on 5 yrs. I’ve gain 60 pounds. Does it help with weight lost? Worth the risk?
I switched from paxil to Wellbutrin over 10 years ago because I liked that it didn't cause weight gain like paxil. I was about 150 and I went down to as low as 128. I'm now between 146-148 but I'm in much better shape now than I was. It took time, to be fair I did NOT taper off paxil (I didn't listen to my doctor, I just wanted to get it over with) and it took about a month to start not feeling crazy. Since I was in paxil withdrawal I'm not sure what Wellbutrin did at first. (I was on paxil since 13, was 24 when I switched) I made sure to take long walks every day that helped. My cravings for sweets went down and the weight just fell off.
I’ve been on this medication for 3 months I’ve noticed my hair shedding ,and frequent urination I don’t want to lose my hair so I’m thinking of getting off this
I’m so scared to start this I suffer with manic depression but also have panic attacks frequently so I’m hoping this won’t make them worse 😞 my doctor said it should help treat both my anxiety and depression but I have doubts :/
Hey Claire- thanks for checking out this video and for sharing your concerns. I have had many patients with depression and anxiety benefit from this medication. Not recommended, it will increase Paxil’s toxicity and risk of heart murmur. You’d have to do decreased Paxil, like down to 10 mg, and be closely monitored.

I have been taking 150mg for 9 days and only one day I felt that I had a lot of energy and could concentrate, is that the effect has to occur later or was it a side effect?
Some people describe having an energy boost right off the bat while others experience it gradually overtime. Sometimes, if people have the desired effects early on and then they wear off quickly, it can be an indication that a little bit of a higher dose could be effective. Make sure to talk about your experience with your provider! Best of luck. Dr. Aly

was taking Adderall for 10 years for my ADD....just recently came off to worsening side effects---horrible social anxiety and irritability. Adderall was feeling way too much like speed or meth (I've never done meth; it just felt too much like a drug and harsh on my body) and it felt like my body was vibrating. I just felt artificially awake all the time, had trouble sleeping, and hyperaware. It was getting pretty rough on my body.... My doc suggested Wellbutrin. I also have depression and anxiety in addition to focus issues. I am worried Wellbutrin will feel all too similar and cause all similar side effects? Will Wellbutrin feel speedy like Adderall, or does it really feel completely different?
Adderall felt like speed.. because it is literally amphetamine salts.. otherwise known as “speed”. Wellbutrin is a NDRI and works by delaying the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine. It’s a very different drug compared to amphetamines.
I have no idea what adderall is like but I can tell you a few things: The side effects were intense for me the first two weeks. But it felt effecient. Im not someone that usually has trouble sleeping, I actually sleep too much usually, and it made me sleep more of a normal amount.
I know you cant go into details but I am looking at deciding between Buspirone or Wellbutrin as I have mild anxiety and depression. I do have ADHD. What are your thoughts on the 2?

Hey George- Thanks so much for taking the time to check out this video and for asking such a great question! I apologize for how long it has taken me to get back to you. I had a baby at the end of August and I'm trying to get caught back up! Effexor and Cymbalta are both considered to be SNRI's. Other medications in this class include desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) and levomilnacipran (Fetzima). I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any topic suggestions for future videos! Dr. Aly
I can already hear it,, "if you took Wellbutrin, you may be entitled to significant compensation " pharmaceuticals profit everyone except the one taking them .
That's all this shit is there's no such thing 4:51 as a pill that takes all your woes away today's my first day taking and don't think I'm going to continue
Just started this to treat my generalized anxiety after 7 years on citalopram. Gained a lot of weight when I tried to increase dosage and basically had no libido for a while so yeah. I'm a trans man and since I started testosterone (5 months) my anxiety somehow changed. I work out 6 days a week and sometimes feel like I have just too much energy lol (that was before Wellbutrin). The way I'm using it seems very off-label but at this point I'm desperate for a normal-ish life... I do smoke weed a lot to cope with anxiety so maybe that's also why it was prescribed. I don't know if it's as efficient to stop smoking weed as well as cigarettes?
I think your problems are coming from the fact that you’re a “trans man.” Messing with your hormones is most likely causing your issues. YOUR body wasn’t designed to have higher “male hormones.”
Started getting very flushed face. 2nd day 1/2 of 75 milligrams. Figures i cant call my psychiatrist til Tuesday ( holiday weekend). I hate to stop. Maybe it will go away?
One thing you should change, brand and off brand may have the same drug but can have different inactive binders in the pill which is why if you take the brand name you shouldn't just accept other off brand labels you might get a shock.
Thanks so much for checking out this video and for the suggestion. I think this topic deserves more time and a brand vs generic video highlighting the differences between the two could be a great idea. Dr. Aly
@@dralywood You're most welcome. It would be a great idea! because a lot of people think there is not a difference and while this is true the majority of the time, if you have a sensitivity to an inactive binder it can create problems, a common one people notice might be stomach upsets that they don't get on the generic or brand name, this applies to all medications so it has great scope for a future video. I wish you well with your channel and future videos. I will subscribe as I think it's great you are open to suggestions. You could be just the Dr for this new video idea. ☺️
Thanks so much for checking out this video and for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, some people have a hard time tolerating this medication. Irritability has been reported in 3% of people. Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to check out this video. More people actually experience weight loss on this medication rather than weight gain. Per the FDA label, weight loss >5 lbs occurred in 14% of people while weight gain >5 lbs occurred in 3%. This was for those on Wellbutrin SR 300 mg/day. In those on 400 mg/day, weight loss was see in 19% and weight gain was seen in 2%. Hey Mikey! Thanks for checking out this video and for the great question. Wellbutrin is metabolized by the liver to active metabolites, which are then further metabolized and excreted by the kidneys. Per the FDA label, liver damage/jaundice was seen "infrequently" in patients during research trials- meaning that it is thought to occur in 1/100 to 1/1000 patients. So, I'd say Wellbutrin potentially could contribute to elevated liver enzymes. However, I'd be sure to continue working with your PCP to rule out other potential causes as well. Well, Wellbutrin made it easier to quit smoking. So that's a win. But otherwise, I hated it. And the side-effect isn't really listed. The problem I had with Wellbutrin was that I felt like I lost 20 IQ. At first it was great. Finally, my mind was at peace, no more racing thoughts. And then it got worse. It was difficult for me to speak eloquently (which my job required). I would constantly forget words. Typing became more difficult - I would make careless mistakes. I lost all creativity, wittyness. And the worst part - my short term memory. Sometimes I would go to the kitchen and then stand there, empty headed, trying to remember what I wanted. That was at 200mg dose.
@Envojus It seems we had similar side effects.. At first it I felt so much better but a month or so in and I was having memory problems, I even forgot my PIN code to my debit card that I use daily. Did you ever find a medication that works for you?
Sounds to me like it treated what was masking inattentive ADHD. I lived life like what you just described for 40 years. I was finally diagnosed with ADHD and started taking Concerta. All those things went away. It was always weird to me that I was much smarter than everyone around me, but these experiences you described made me feel and act like a complete moron.
Wellbutrin was given to me in rehab to help with meth cravings. I’m now 21 months sober and thankful for this medication
Congratulations and keep it up.
Very nice hope your still good
I've been trying to figure out what stimulant would be helpful for my ADHD ( with previously prescribed medicine from my doc ).
Congrats!! Keep it up!
You've got this! 🧡
I have been on Wellbutrin for 7 days and I noticed the difference in one day
Honestly this medication saved my life because I did not want to live. 🔆

any side effects? did it increase / cause anxiety for you? did it feel like a stimulant/feel stimulating to you?
On day one I noticed a reduction in fatigue... absolutely unbelievable. I never had that type of response with an SSRI. It took about two months to significantly help the depression, but now I feel like I have my life back! Fingers crossed it continues to work going forward :)

Hey! Not sure if you’ll see this but just curious.
I also have ADHD and anxiety.
Did Wellbutrin feel stimulating or increase anxiety for you? Or no?
i’m 14 years old and i’ve been prescribed this, i was afraid because this was the first time ive been on medication. i was afraid of starting it and this definitely helped and made sure that if i feel anything wrong that i know im not just crazy. thank you. 😊

Too young imo. Let your brain fully develop before introducing these chemicals to it
Just started this myself Today, because I was struggling with my Mental Health and am a high risk for depression Autism and my mother as well as siblings having it. I was prescribed 150 XL Generic and I feel Much better now, not as tired and sleepy before as my sleeping meds and before i was on this, not to mention my down in the dumps mood all the time.
Was researching this medicine as my doctor just put me on this to help with quitting smoking. Thanx for the video
How is it going?
This gave me hair loss so I stopped taking it. It's too bad but hair loss doesn't help my anxiety/depression.
Thanks for taking the time to check out this video, Laura!
Hair loss is not something that I hear too often from patients given it occurs relatively infrequently (occurring between 1/100 to 1/1000 patients). I totally understand why you would stop it if that was your experience...yuck. I hope you found something that works well for you.

Staying busy at work helped take my mind off things, but even that stopped working as I'd have I guess intrusive thoughts in the middle of what I was doing.
how long were you on it for if you dont mind me asking?

With my ADHD it’s like this:
Imagine being in a gymnasium with hundreds of thousands post it notes on the walls. Hopefully this medication will really help me!
is it working out for you?
I feel you!
I just got prescribed this today for anhedonia. Should arrive in the mail in 10 days. I hope it helps.
So how do you feel?
@Rover.71 10 days in,
Pros:
Quicker to laugh and smile
less likely to take things personally and just laugh at jokes from co-workers.
I just don't feel self-conscious or defensive or down on myself.
I feel more joy from doing things I used to like. I can actually notice when dopamine is released.
Cons:
Sometimes irritable
Sometimes nauseous after eating
Feel tired and sleepy
Foggy headed, i can't keep track of details. ppl talk to me about at work. So I have to write things down as they talk to me or I will just forget what they said. It's kind of like being stoned. Except your nauseous.
I'm still on the ramp up. 150mg, after 30 days I am supposed to go to 300mg.
@Rover.71 I keep trying to reply to you but my post gets deleted.
This is finally becoming available in the UK this year.
What took them so long ?
Wellbutrin saved my life. So grateful for it!
If the agitation and anxiousness doesn’t subside I might have to switch.
what about now, did it go away?
@@RS-zl4vs Thankfully it did go away, it took about a month. It’s really helped my depression! I still have difficulty falling asleep after almost two months on it. I take melatonin.

When did your symptoms start?

Can this medication be giving for GAD? Health Anxiety?
Great question- so I have had people with anxiety (and usually depression) take this and do well on it.
However, because it works in dopamine and norepinephrine, some people with anxiety will not tolerate this. What we see is that anxiety, irritability, and agitation worsens after initiating treatment.
I rarely use this as a solo agent on people who only have anxiety and no depression. I prefer trying BUSPAR instead.
Hope this helps and don’t forget to subscribe if you found this info valuable… more videos to come!

@@dralywood I love that you took the time to help, Dr. Aly. Hey Paul! Great question! We will tackle it on Tuesday when my husband, Dr. Rob, goes LIVE on the channel answering Wellbutrin questions. Be sure to check it out!
Dr. Aly
Are you ADHD or autistic? Neurodivergent? Because you may need a stimulant medication.
Im about to switch to this from my ssri, mainly because adderall has been repeatedly losing effectiveness, and the possibility that some of my supposed adhd symptoms might actually be depression symptoms that my ssri isnt effectively treating
For my ADHD people: ive been continuously upping my stimulant med dosage.
Stimulant due to active cathinones.
Interesting... I wasn't aware of this. I'm finding that its prohibited "in-competition only. (www.wada-ama.org/sites/default/files/resources/files/2022list_monitoring_program_final_en.pdf). I'm thinking it's likely because they are considering it a stimulant-like medication given that it affects both dopamine and norepinephrine levels.

Brilliant. I would love to hear more on what you know, do you know about the component of magic mushrooms?

Hello Dr. You told us to “pay extra careful with those with liver disease”. Does it mean that those that have fatty livers shouldn’t take this med either??? I have non-alcoholic fatty liver. They can’t do an accurate liver test on me because of my scoliosis.
I just stated this med almost 7 weeks ago.
I started at 150 mg and I’m up to 300 mg approaching two months now. Has anybody tried adding an SSRI????
I tried this because I didn’t want to take a SSRI, but I’m not having any positive results from Wellbutrin. I can’t sleep on top of my depression, anxiety and fatigue.
I am taking only bupropion 150 mg xl for about 12 days to treat sexual Dysfunction caused by SSRI . But I haven't notice any improvement in treatment of such problem.

Hey! I have heard a lot of people end up losing their hair on this drug as it puts hair follicles into sleep mode? This is something quite scary to me and is preventing me from trying the medication. Idk if its rare, or only with some people, but it seems a lot of people on forums have mentioned this.

Doc, do people report stomach upset as a side effect to Wellbutrin?
I just interviewed for a job that will drug test and ironically I just started taking this medication. What should I do?
You have to let the doctor or testing company know exactly what your taking.
I take 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL with 70 mg of Vyvanse and they compliment each other for ADHD... I also have bipolar I disorder. When I was just on a stimulant, I needed high doses of it to work.
If u don’t mind me asking, what does Wellbutrin feel like compared to Vyvanse? Does it feel as stimulating? Does it cause any feelings of anxiety?

I have thought of going back to trying this medication but a few weeks in i noticed i got bad dry mouth and also lost my voice for a whole month. I dont know if it was correlated but it scared me away from it because i was put on magic mouthwash to get my voice back.

Hello Doc,
I was recently prescribed 150 for weight lost.
Worth the risk? YES. Just make sure you aren't having any serious side effects, but it takes time to get used to it.
Hey Valerie, Dr. Rob is going to respond to your question live on Tuesday, June 7th at noon. He is also going to give other weight loss tips.

However, be careful with it, as there's some data suggesting that treatment with antidepressants may increase the risk of precipitating manic episodes in those with bipolar disorder.

How you doing right now? I started today
I take 30 mg paxil and am in need of something additional. Can Wellbutrin be taken with paxil?
Not recommended, it will increase Paxil’s toxicity and risk of heart murmur. You’d have to do decreased Paxil, like down to 10 mg, and be closely monitored.
When i was q kid on this i def had insomnia dizziness sweating diarrhea nervousness and anxiety why my oarents had a happy teenager on anti deppressants is beyond me i still wonder to this day the long term side effects
Best of luck.

was taking Adderall for 10 years for my ADD....just recently came off to worsening side effects---horrible social anxiety and irritability.
@@Douggydrealer thanks. So I likely wouldn’t feel the same way I did on stimulants?

I'm a trans man and since I started testosterone (5 months) my anxiety somehow changed. I work out 6 days a week and sometimes feel like I have just too much energy lol (that was before Wellbutrin). I do smoke weed a lot to cope with anxiety so maybe that's also why it was prescribed. I don't know if it's as efficient to stop smoking weed as well as cigarettes?
Are you still taking this and smoke weed?
I think your problems are coming from the fact that you’re a “trans man.” Messing with your hormones is most likely causing your issues. YOUR body wasn’t designed to have higher “male hormones.”

My liver enzymes are elevated can this drug be a factor in liver enzymes?

100%, to all this. I felt like I became a human robot
@Envojus It seems we had similar side effects.. At first it I felt so much better but a month or so in and I was having memory problems, I even forgot my PIN code to my debit card that I use daily.
