      I've been trying to figure out what stimulant would be helpful for my ADHD ( with previously prescribed medicine from my doc ). I tried 5mg and then 10mg Amphetamine drugs and within less than a week it wasn't effective for me. It would start off good for a day or two and just be intolerable after like day 5.
      Something interesting I stumbled upon though was that the Bupropion ( generic Wellbutrin ) helped with the withdrawals ( depression / anxiety ) of stopping the Amphetamines.

      Hey Sarah- Thanks so much for taking the time to check out this video and for sharing your experience! I apologize for how long it has taken me to get back to you. I had a baby at the end of August and I'm trying to get caught back up!
      I'm so happy to hear that you found this video to be helpful. This is a great medication choice in those who have the double whammy of depression and ADHD. I also have a lot of patients who will do a temporary bump in the dose if they have seasonal patterns where their mood takes a dip during the fall/winter time.

    I hear this medication helps a lot of people, but I couldn't tolerate wellbutrin due to an acute increase in anxiety, chest tightness, and inability to sleep (I could only sleep about every 48 hrs). I felt absolutely no benefit. My symptoms were affecting life at home, but began to affect work as well. I'd have to take longer and more frequent breaks. I was on the verge of crying all day. Staying busy at work helped take my mind off things, but even that stopped working as I'd have I guess intrusive thoughts in the middle of what I was doing.

      What dose did you start at? I took Burpropion ( Generic Wellbutrin ) a couple years ago with a different psychiatrist than what I use now and my old doc started me out at 300XL and that didn't go well for me. My current doc started me out at 150XL.
      I agree with the Dr. in the video that you should start at the lowest effective dose and you have to wait about 4 - 6 weeks to see the full results. From the minor amount of chatting with people online a lot of the various side effects get worked out after the initial 6 weeks and you figure out whether or not it is tolerable.
      Personally I'm going with the XL version because I don't want spike of the medicine throughout my day.
      I was having sleep issues with XL a couple weeks ago but I haven't been having them lately.

    • @NormieNeko
      @NormieNeko 11 месяцев назад +1

      That's why I'm back at 150 XL (instead of 300). I couldn't go to sleep nor nap during the day when I actually had time for it. I still like it. It helps. Have you tried vistaril? It can help counteract sleeplessness and anxiety. An over the counter version would be Benadryl, but that will not do anything for anxiety.
      I use it for postpartum depression, natal depression, and seasonal depression -- most of the time or full-time, really, lol.

    • @yourbrokenoven

      @jacqulineard140 tried vistaril once. Way too strong. Didn't seem to help with anxiety, but it made me feel drunk. I have a prescription for propanolol. That doesn't seem to do much either.

I decided to stop taking it because of my level of chronic pain and my pain meds not working. In 24 hours of not taking it, I crashed. My body crashed so fast. I took one 150 mg to balance my body out. Im going to take it until they can switch me over to Auvelity. The instant withdrawal is hell. Never encountered such hell in my life!

The Lexapro, while for the first time I didn't bad side effect, the XR 20 mg did nothing for me. However I am still struggling to adjust to medication ... Ritalin didn't work and I have been taking Vyvanse for about 2 months and still so many doubts about if it is REALLY working!! I had used Welbutrin years ago for smoking cessation and I believe I was well better on it rather than vyvanse, but my doctor would like to continue on the standard ADHD recommended treatment. Would Atomoxetin be then, a better option for me rather than Vyvanse? thank you for your support! :-)

    I just got my Bupropion HCL 150 MG filled today. Since this mediation has a black box warning. I have to meet with my Nurse Practitioner every month. I have my bottle in my hand now. I have yet to take it. I’ve heard really great things about the medication. I got it prescribed for my depression, but especially for my ADHD. I’m hoping it does great things for me. Considering I’m not hyper, but I have a difficult time focusing and concentrating on this. I procrastinate a lot. I start wayyy to many projects that I don’t finish. With my ADHD it’s like this:
    Imagine being in a gymnasium with hundreds of thousands post it notes on the walls. On every post it note, there are thoughts, tasks and projects listed on them. That’s what my mind is like 24/7. The projects, thoughts, ideas and advice are really great. It will definitely benefit my life and progress me further. But I just cannot even go through step one and sit down to focus. I get so distracted easily. It’s horrible. Hopefully this medication will really help me!

      It was working for me, very well actually. I was able to focus on things and get shit done. But I had to get off of it, because it made my heart rate increase. My main concern was that I could not focus, after getting off. I was starting school soon and I knew I would have a hard time focusing. Long behold I was struggling with school and I could not do it, so i left the program. My nurse practitioner said that her main concern was my depression so she was not going to prescribe me anything to focus. I do not want to be on a stimulant and wellbutrin is the only option for norepinephrine i believe. It worked well for my depression and helped me focus, but it does not help with anxiety. @@RideTheSkies

      @Twistedstar0320 Месяц назад

      @Rover.71 Well, day one, it was noticeable, I was able to do things around the house easier. Some days have been nauseous, and it's had me feeling tired. But, I've noticed I laugh more, and things make me smile more. At work, the jokes are way funnier and easier to just join in the comedy.
      I have had moments of irritability, snaping at my wife, and then apologizing. It makes you immediately respond with the first emotion you feel.
      I have actually felt joy in doing things. 10 days of taking it now. Sometimes, I feel like I'm sort of foggy headed someone and having a hard time remembering details alibis immediately after a conversation. Having to write things down as I speak to people at work. It's like being tired and a little stoned, not really paying attention.
      Eating can make you feel nauseous and tired.
      Overall, I think it's helping me feel joy again. The feeling of dopamine is noticeable, and i actually think to myself, woah.. I forgot how this feels.

    • @Twistedstar0320
      @Twistedstar0320 Месяц назад

      @Rover.71 10 days in,
      Pros:
      Quicker to laugh and smile
      less likely to take things personally and just laugh at jokes from co-workers.
      I just don't feel self-conscious or defensive or down on myself.
      I feel more joy from doing things I used to like. I can actually notice when dopamine is released.
      Cons:
      Sometimes irritable
      Sometimes nauseous after eating
      Feel tired and sleepy
      Foggy headed, i can't keep track of details. ppl talk to me about at work. So I have to write things down as they talk to me or I will just forget what they said. It's kind of like being stoned. Except your nauseous.

    In all honesty, despite having a history of an eating disorder, I spoke to my PCP about taking Wellbutrin because SSRIs and SNRI’s catapult me into hypomanic episodes within days. My depression was getting worse to the point it was affecting my work as a nurse, so I decided to give Wellbutrin a try because I was close to offing myself.
    I’m on day 2, and I already notice a difference in my mood and energy. I’m not falling asleep within short hours of waking up and it actually helps my concentration. I also want to add that I’m also on Lamictal for mood stabilization.
    I still have anxiety, and I’ll talk to my PCP about that also. It just depends on the person.

    I've been on this for 10 days now. I felt the lift right away. Night terror for one night and then done. I'm getting chest squeezing and agitation so bad. I feel so aggressive at times. I love the uplifting it has done for me, like waking in the morning but the side effect with my chest scares me so I'm weaning off. My doctor said take one every other day for a week to wean, but I'm also afraid of withdrawal and brain zaps like i had with past medicine withdrawals. So I'm choosing to cut my pill in half one day whole then half then none then half for the week-10 days.
    I am taking 150mg.
    I wished so badly that i wouldn't have any side effects because i SUFFER from manic depressive syndrome, ADHD, general anxiety, and body OCD and I smoke. The doctor said it could fix all at the same time, so obviously i had high hopes. Until side effects. 🤢
    Many tell me that the side effects will calm down after some time but the chest squeezing I'm not messing around with. Heart attack runs in my lineage.

    I took this med for 6.5 yrs 150 mg , had no problems just started to get more irritated so I asked to move to the next dose 300 mgs 2 months ago . And just discovered I’ve developed insidious diabetes non stop drinking water and peeing around the clock and hearts palpitations, can’t sleep , nausea, headaches . Almost every single bad reaction mentioned above , I’ve had so much blood work to figure out wth is wrong with me for the last 2 months . I’ve been journaling everyday about my symptoms and reactions that day . And this med is the only med , I’ve been taking and a anti acid , and I stopped the anti acid , a couple weeks ago . I stopped the bupropion tests d low and behold , my excessive thirst and peeing stopped.,,, literally! Back to normal. Still very fatigued, but I’m very hopeful that stopping this med will restore me to at least a functioning state . The fatigue , dizziness took over my life :( so just please keep track of your reactions , even if your been on the meds 6.5 years like me . Only had bad reactions after upping the dose . Still not positive that this is the issue , but I’m keeping up with the journaling to rule out issues .

      Great question- so I have had people with anxiety (and usually depression) take this and do well on it.
      However, because it works in dopamine and norepinephrine, some people with anxiety will not tolerate this. What we see is that anxiety, irritability, and agitation worsens after initiating treatment.
      I rarely use this as a solo agent on people who only have anxiety and no depression. I prefer trying BUSPAR instead.

As someone whose struggling gravely with anxiety (health anxiety, agoraphobia, panic) I reached out to a nurse practitioner for some help and they are prescribing Lamotrigine and Wellbutrin which is so opposite of how I've ever been treated in the past. Zoloft was how I was treated for this condition 6 years ago. So, yeah...not sure what to do from here. For my ADHD people: ive been continuously upping my stimulant med dosage. It helps for a few days, then it'll stop having any effect whatsoever. So i take a break for a few days, up my dosage, and repeat the cycle. This has been the pattern for over 6 months. I started out on ritalin, then went over to adderall, which ive been on for 2.5 - 3 months. The entire time, it's been the same pattern, and im now on 2 25mg per day with no sustaining effective dosage appearing to settle in. Has anyone else had this experience? Whatd u do?

      @nathansmith6387 3 года назад +2

      Bupropion is the only synthetic cathinone (a class of drugs commonly known as “bath salts”) approved by the FDA. (Figure 1). Its mechanism of action is achieved through inhibition of norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake, and antagonism at nicotine recptors.
      Cathinones are one of the most popular categories of new psychoactive substances (NPS) consumed. Cathinones have different pharmacological activities and receptor selectivity for monoamine transporters based on their chemical structures. They are incorporated into NPS mixtures and used with other NPS or ‘traditional’ drugs. Cathinone use represents significant health risks to individuals and is a public health burden.
      This is what the Anti-Doping stated. I love my Wellbutrin it's been amazing for years. Drug addicts like to break chemicals down and create adultrants to add to drugs.

    • @dralywood
      @dralywood  3 года назад +2

      Hey Cait- thanks for taking the time to check out this video and for your question!
      Acne is a relatively unusual side effect from Wellbutrin. According to the FDA label, it is considered to be "rare"- meaning it was seen in less than 1/1,000 patients. Is there a chance that something else might be contributing as well- new lotions, new soaps, new make-up, new stressors?
      With that being said, some people obviously do experience this. Switching from the generic to the brand version could potentially be helpful? However, I am not 100% certain about this. Lowering the dose could also potentially be beneficial.
      I'd also consider talking to your treatment provider about your concerns and see if there's any strategies you could try from a dermatologic standpoint.

      I switched from paxil to Wellbutrin over 10 years ago because I liked that it didn't cause weight gain like paxil. I was about 150 and I went down to as low as 128. I'm now between 146-148 but I'm in much better shape now than I was. It took time, to be fair I did NOT taper off paxil (I didn't listen to my doctor, I just wanted to get it over with) and it took about a month to start not feeling crazy. Since I was in paxil withdrawal I'm not sure what Wellbutrin did at first. (I was on paxil since 13, was 24 when I switched) I made sure to take long walks every day that helped. My cravings for sweets went down and the weight just fell off.

Adderall was feeling way too much like speed or meth (I've never done meth; it just felt too much like a drug and harsh on my body) and it felt like my body was vibrating. I just felt artificially awake all the time, had trouble sleeping, and hyperaware. It was getting pretty rough on my body....
    My doc suggested Wellbutrin. I also have depression and anxiety in addition to focus issues. I am worried Wellbutrin will feel all too similar and cause all similar side effects?
    Will Wellbutrin feel speedy like Adderall, or does it really feel completely different?

    • @Douggydrealer
      @Douggydrealer Год назад +9

      Adderall felt like speed.. because it is literally amphetamine salts.. otherwise known as “speed”. Wellbutrin is a NDRI and works by delaying the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine. It’s a very different drug compared to amphetamines.

      I have no idea what adderall is like but I can tell you a few things:
      The side effects were intense for me the first two weeks. But it felt effecient. Im not someone that usually has trouble sleeping, I actually sleep too much usually, and it made me sleep more of a normal amount.

    Just started this to treat my generalized anxiety after 7 years on citalopram. Gained a lot of weight when I tried to increase dosage and basically had no libido for a while so yeah. I'm a trans man and since I started testosterone (5 months) my anxiety somehow changed. I work out 6 days a week and sometimes feel like I have just too much energy lol (that was before Wellbutrin). The way I'm using it seems very off-label but at this point I'm desperate for a normal-ish life...
    I do smoke weed a lot to cope with anxiety so maybe that's also why it was prescribed. I don't know if it's as efficient to stop smoking weed as well as cigarettes?

    One thing you should change, brand and off brand may have the same drug but can have different inactive binders in the pill which is why if you take the brand name you shouldn't just accept other off brand labels you might get a shock.

      @@dralywood You're most welcome. It would be a great idea! because a lot of people think there is not a difference and while this is true the majority of the time, if you have a sensitivity to an inactive binder it can create problems, a common one people notice might be stomach upsets that they don't get on the generic or brand name, this applies to all medications so it has great scope for a future video.
      I wish you well with your channel and future videos. I will subscribe as I think it's great you are open to suggestions. You could be just the Dr for this new video idea. ☺️

    My liver enzymes are elevated can this drug be a factor in liver enzymes?

    • @dralywood
      @dralywood  3 года назад

      Hey Mikey! Thanks for checking out this video and for the great question.
      Wellbutrin is metabolized by the liver to active metabolites, which are then further metabolized and excreted by the kidneys. Per the FDA label, liver damage/jaundice was seen "infrequently" in patients during research trials- meaning that it is thought to occur in 1/100 to 1/1000 patients.
      So, I'd say Wellbutrin potentially could contribute to elevated liver enzymes. However, I'd be sure to continue working with your PCP to rule out other potential causes as well.

    Well, Wellbutrin made it easier to quit smoking. So that's a win. But otherwise, I hated it. And the side-effect isn't really listed. The problem I had with Wellbutrin was that I felt like I lost 20 IQ. At first it was great. Finally, my mind was at peace, no more racing thoughts. And then it got worse. It was difficult for me to speak eloquently (which my job required). I would constantly forget words. Typing became more difficult - I would make careless mistakes. I lost all creativity, wittyness. And the worst part - my short term memory. Sometimes I would go to the kitchen and then stand there, empty headed, trying to remember what I wanted. That was at 200mg dose.
