- Love this song. No one had a good quality video with the original track. All the tracks out here have the radio edit/video edit, which at the time, there wasn't MTV. Not sure what the roller bladers have to do with anything, but, it is was a good way to fill the gaps on the radio edit to make the studio version work. Remastered the track a bit. Sounds more full, with some bottom end. Enjoy!

Back when California was a free State.
Gone now and probably never to return. 😢
1990, age 20: skates off at work to listen to this classic rock
2024, age 54 listens to this video at work before catching a few winks
A great song that supersedes any decade
I was born in 90
2023 and this song still kicks ass ❤
2024
Who's still listening to this song in 2020?....... wonderful great song!
Keith Harris definitely! Im 26 and it used to play on the local rock station in St. Louis when i was a kid
I am! Great song.
Ill always will coz this makes me feel like on drugs but only great musicians. Can do that so no time to lose
ME! I’m 57!
Never stopped
When I hear this, I’m a nine year-old kid again. It’s 1979. I’m laying on my bed, listening to this song on the radio, thumbing through Mad Magazine and cramming as many pieces of Bubblicious bubblegum into my mouth that I possibly can at one time. Life was so simple and good, lol.
Same - Legos all over the floor!
Great comment! I'm a little bit older but I remember being out crusing, jaming out on this over and over. Good times✌
Definitely one of the most underrated songs of all time!!!!!! Love it.
I absolutely agree!!!
@@michaelabrahams1424 Me too! Beats most of this crap on the radio now adays. I listen to a classic rock station alot where I live and they play this one a good bit :0
Why wasn’t this a number one song around the world. It s perfect.
Brings me back to the summer of 79 when I was 19. Love this song...still do
Me too. Just turned 64.
Ah it was a differnt time back then. Life was simpiler back. People had differnt attitdudes, people spoke differntly. What a time to be in, had the time of my life back. I sure do miss those time. I wish I go back and stay there
This song is still in regular rotation on WXRC 95.7 “The Ride” in Charlotte, NC.
That's where I hear it mostly!!!! I live in louisville, ky but I'm from Belmont, NC and still listen to the ride on my phone at work! The other song they play that's kinda rare to hear is "Raspberries- go all the way". Fun fact:the guitarist for the Raspberries is from Gastonia. Nc!
This video really makes me feel like I'm back in 1979 even if I was 8 back then. All the pretty girls roller skating and this song are a great combination 😍
Pretty boys too😊❤
Makes me remember 79 when I was in the navy on the beach in San Diego 😀
This was what music is supposed to sound like. Great bands wrote great songs like this. A timeless classic. Really miss those days bad.
This is the best rock song. Ranks right up there with Ted Nugent, Boston, Styx ….!!!!
Talk about a true “lost classic” . I hadn’t heard this in years. Usually I hear an old song from time to time on radio, movies, Internet, etc... but this one has remained buried. (To me anyway).
It was great to hear it again
Me too
Same here!
The Train we cant always be like water
james rideout I don’t understand your response
The Train just a thought about the lyric. We can’t always be like water, flowing on to find our way.......
No Time To Lose Is An Absolutely Awesome Spectacular Great Straight Up KickAss Rock N Roll Song By The Tarney Spencer Band And Totally Rocks It Needs To Be Fully Cranked Up All The Way To Full Maximum Volume.🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
this tune is ahead of its time and thus, timeless. superb musicianship. loved it back in the day. would love to have had more from the band.
i was searching for this song all my life that reminded of my childhood and the good old days ..the 70s...tears welled up in my eyes..how good was those times.i could hear this music all day n each time im taken back to those time.....a time when technology didnt invade our lives
hell i thoyght it was fleetwood mac
1979 was great
@@johnnyparker5163 ,he does sound a little like Lindsey, voice and guitar wise
I'm right there with you... Great ol days....
@@johnniesoesbee7015 : for me, it's THE most haunting CS & N song never written [by THEM.....]
Every time i hear this song, i'm instantly 9 years old, in the passenger seat of my dad's 1969 4spd Roadrunner, and he is rowing through the gears getting on the highway and the song and the winding rpm's of the engine are kind of intertwining as they climb.
Hell yeah, dude!
Road runner ragtop? LOVE that unmistakable horn! AND pistol grip gearshift lever.
Takes me back to a time when things were simple.
Music is our time machine it takes us back to good times , before all the technology has invaded us I'm 58yrs young Mexican American and will keep Rock'n and Rolling till I die Rock on all Rockers out there !!!!
Saludos desde México, disfrutando de esta joya musical
Oh my gosh.....I clicked on this just to hear something new and found that I remember this song!!! Thank you algorithm.
I can't believe I found this - lyrics and music in my head but could NOT remember the song title or band. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!
My favorite song. EVER. I cannot COUNT the amount of times I've listened to it. I never tire of it. Even after all these years. So tense, emotional. Maybe it's the minor key it was written in. :)
I hear Ya Paul! I loved it when it came out on MTV Way Back in the Day! I finally found the clip on RUclips....then searched for it and was able to get a new copy of it on their Run For Your Life CD on Ebay! This past Thursday finally got a copy of their other CD called Three's A Crowd. It's Very good too! Minor Key??? Really? I thought it started with a D chord. The riff just before the chorus is very cool too!!!
Echo your response...still after 43 years! There are those songs that come around every now and then. Keep listening!!!!!
Both song and visuals here capture intense impermanent youth flying by...
@@petersonlafollette3521 Nice!
@@RogerDavis795 Song came from album "Run for your Life"
1979 A Classic Year for Rock.
KSHE 95 in St.Louis still cranks this on fm waves! Good classic
I'll have to give that station a listen. You should check out 95.7 the ride, out of Charlotte, NC. Great Station that plays this stuff
One of the greatest one hit wonders ever!
Played a lot in Stl. Childhood memories.
@@kurtzaehner6256 Entire album licks and lyrics are memorable- TSP from Australia.
....actually, he DID have one other FANTASTIC minor hit, "It's Really You" - NO promo for it uploaded but, Karen Carpenter recorded a VERY good version on her never-released solo album.....ruclips.net/video/xQ86IgDnBo0/видео.html
One of the best tunes ever written.I get chills, and tear up every time. This video brings me back,to a simpler time. Now im older, and makes even more sense=No time to lose.
I love this song!! Love how it makes me feel ~ how it drifts me back to a time in my life when time really didn't matter ~ it defines summer to me and all that mattered was hanging out with good friends at the skating rink and having a good time ~ now time is catching up to me....and there really is 'no time to lose' ~
Well said.
Dan Castro ~ Thank you ~
82sweetheart Exactly how it makes me feel. Makes me long for those Summer Vacations from school in the 70's and just playing outside with Friends every day and going to the Arcades and playing all of those classic video games and overall, remembering how much simpler life was back then and being young and carefree. It seemed like time moved slower back then, didn't it?? I remember going to the Roller Rink, too. What fun that was!
70sRockNRoller ~ I wish I could go back sometimes ~ thankful that I can 'escape' reality and re-live those days through the timeless music from that era!! : )
Yeah, tell me about it. :) There's something to be said for "The Good Ol' Days". :)
I was 18 when this song came out. I actually heard it on the radio today, 12/19/19 and this now older man was jamming to it. One of my all time favorites!
This needs to be on Apple Music ASAP!
One of the best well made rock songs of all time.
What a great song! Drummer is having way to much fun! Rock On!
Alan (Tarney) is singing lead, playing lead guitar, Trevor (Spencer) on drums.
So far on the last count: 367,998 others are still watching in 2021.

I made this incredible intro I grew up with into a ringtone, and now it's my alarm clock every morning.
Filmed in '79 at Venice Beach a stones throw from where I grew up in South Bay. I was 24 and in the prime of life! Great song. Girls in gym shorts on skates......Gotta love that!
After 44 years, I still think about getting next to the cute, curvy girl holding the radio to her ear.
Back when Kalifornia was the greatest place to live on the planet.
Ah, the memories, when everything was affordable, and awesome music. Ladies were ladies !
When I was a young man I met a girl who later took me to California to meet her parents and we got engaged at this very park. What great memories later we got back to Chattanooga and saw this video. Great song !!
No time to lose at 62!
This such a lost gem from the 70s!
Still have my original vinyl of this one. Who said we children of the 60's and teens of the 70's didn't have some great music to listen to!
If this video was filmed in the year 2019 nobody would be up skating. They'd all be sitting around glued to their "smart" phones.
I turned 9 the year this came out, loved it. Same year I learned to figure skate, trained 4 hours a day for 11 years, haven't skated since 1990. Heard this song yesterday for the first time in years, makes me want to skate again.
September, 2021.
Still a killer song.
It was the summer of '78 and I was 13, riding my bike around on scorched Arizona blacktop- listening to a transistor radio. I was following a pretty girl I knew from school, her hair bleached almost white from the sun. We stopped at the local park and shared an orange and that was when I had my first kiss. I will never forget this song!
If you know this song, and heard it nearly every day, you lived in St. Louis at some point in your life. K-SHE 95.
I saw this video in a movie theater before a movie. I knew I had to move to L.A. I did 8 years later. Been here ever since.
I grew up I Ohio. I was in the 4th grade while this was happening. Though I did move to Newport Beach eventually, it makes me actually kind of sad to see this and know I missed it. Born late.
If you inserted the 1970's Venice Beach roller skate clips into this video, you are a GENIUS. 👏👏👏
Although released in 1979, from the group's second LP "Run for Your Life," the song only charted high on the Hot 100 to #84 on its initial release. Two years later, after MTV made history, this tune was reissued, this time reaching #74 on the H100 the week ending 10/3/81.
If a song is played in heavy rotation on FM Rock radio, the Hot 100 chart is irrelevant in my opinion...
It triggers memories from the fall of 81 for me so that makes sense
The drummer looks like he's having
a damn good time👍👍
I remember this being in heavy rotation on Popclips with Jack Armstrong (pre-MTV)
Still love it!
The girl with the radio is perfect..Damn!
I was born in 1986, so of course most of my early memories are from the 90s. While I know those that grew up in the 70s have a much deeper experience of that decade, I still feel like this song and video invites me in to that decade for a little bit. That’s a sign on how you know it’s a good song…it can take people like me and invite them to that decade for a bit, while those that grew up in the 70s can continue to reflect on that decade with songs like this. Hopefully this made some sort of sense.
I was born in 63, and for a 79 year song. I started roller frame shrimping in 86, and this song will allways be real to real people!
Just to find and here this again.....awesome...! .....who plays this kind of cool music anymore...?
Me. If they put songs like this on tv or radio I would tune in all day and night.
In the studio, Alan Tarney played guitar, bass and vocals. The other musicians are just for touring. Trevor Spencer played drums.
thanks for the info
Wowza
Fucking badass....the 70s bands just fucking showed up and played....not like this horse shit today....digital subtraction and auto tune....just fucking jammed and got it on....one take live day in and day out.
Searching this forever
The 70s were totally awesome. Wish I could relive them days.. simpler times
Damn fine song..back to my 20s, playing softball 5 nights a week, dating phenomenal women, partying with Pabst beer! ROCK ON!
You're so right Bob. This reminds me that I was shipped out of town away from my young family in the early 80's. In my work truck in the evening heading to my hotel. A truly great song is a time stamp of a period of a life. Great comment Bob.
@@rdjraa4983 ROCK ON!!
This video is ssssoooo 70's 🙂
I searched for this song for ,many many years. I just started to perform in bars as a very very young kid, but I got lost learning new material but Thank You RUclips I accidentally bumped into to it and here it IS!!!! Thank You again 🎸🎸⚡️⚡️🎸🎸
Great song and video from the later 70s. Definitely brings back memories of years gone by.
I just love this song I could listen to it none stop all day long!
2021... no time to lose. Classic.
Great song! I remember it from the early days of MTV. This song deserves more airplay, though! I never hear it anymore; not even on XM / Sirius Radio!
+bucky468 OK, thanks for the info! Let me check that out! Too bad they filed that injunction against Limewire. I know that it would be on there.
I heard this on the radio the other day on a station in Des Moines IA. Hadn't heard it played since the 80s when MTV still played videos.
+Allan Williams Very interesting! I don't even hear it on XM Radio, here in the San Francisco Bay Area!
They play song a lot on KQRS out of Minneapolis
@@allanwilliams1273 I have never heard this on MTV!
I remember watching this video as a kid on frigid Massachusetts winter evenings and dreaming about how awesome California was.
Australian band. Classic case of a great tune that slipped through the cracks. As a Southern California, FM DJ most of my life, I played this not only when it came out, but as sort of a "Ringer" song years later at other stations because it was a great tune the competition missed and had forgotten about. Whenever I played it, I always had listeners calling asking who it was? Has that great 70s energy and licks. We still play it today and the same thing happens.
Boy what a simpler fun time thanks for the rocking tune tarney Spencer group
1979 sophomore year in college, hanging out with a bunch of my friends and my girlfriend in the student union, and this song comes over the building speakers. I stop and write down what I think is the song name on the inside of a class folder. Still have the folder and the LP I bought that weekend. Good album, great song. Thanks for the memory.
To me... quite simply this is a perfect pop song!!!!! It pushes and pulls in all the right places ... Hypnotic and sparkling..... wish I had seen them live.........
Es una obra maestra del pop y como bien dices tiene un efecto Hipnotico y brillante.
A very Fleetwood Mac kind of feel to it, eh?!
I wondered what happened to this song, you would hear it a lot on the radio.one of my favorite songs from the 1980’s❤❤
One of my favorite all time songs!
I thought the whole album was fantastic.
To this day this song is a all time great! Beautifully written lyrics and music. Don't find many like this today.
Easily one of my top 100 all time. Great, great song.
Why this song never made it into the Top Ten is beyond me.
Fortunately, the DJ's in my hometown seemed to like it and played it frequently.
Ever since I Heard this Song I’ve Loved It And Still Love It So even after it’s release 45 years ago this Year 2024 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Still listening in 2024! Loved it in 90 at 39,still love it at 72! 💃 🕺 🪩
I'm listening in 2022,and still loving it.
A long forgotten song, it's great to hear it again. I long for those days when bands were far more than what they are today. Each band member were known for their talents and weren't just playing music to accompany the singer so that only he/she could shine, everyone had a piece of the pie in the spotlight; and it was well deserved.
What a joyous song and accompanying video! Does anyone else notice early in the video when the background singer reaches up and “grabs” the drum strike out of the air? Never seen that before or since, but it’s pretty cool…
I was 9 when I first heard this and now I’m 47....still awesome
Sixteen myself that year
Just heard this on KRFC Fort Collins, Colorado. Listening from Port Edwards, Wisconsin. Heard this on WWSP from the UWSP at Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Heard this on classic radio this week, not hearing it in decades! I love it when I discover a song I really liked, but it got lost along the way. It's like striking gold! I have played this video over and over a bunch of times today, with my headphones on, and enjoying it so much! Thanks for posting this awesome song!! Sounds fantastic! Such a great year for music, 1979!
I never get tired of this tune this song has it all
This came out in 1979 but I remember it from later, from the early MTV days (1981-1982?). The shots of girls rollerblading had me from day 1. I was living in Ohio at the time, so anything California--sun shining--beach scenes looked dreamy from my dreary bedroom. Of course, now that I'm grown up, California looks like a nightmare. But in the day, this video gave me chills. It really takes me back to a day when there were no cell phones, no computers and everything you did, you did outside. Those were the days. Thanks for posting and taking me back.
Roller SKATES not blades! The blades didnt come out until the 90s!
I was 9 when this came out. I had forgotten about it and heard it the other day. What a great song! How could that not be a number 1?!
This was the first music video I ever saw. This song is timeless.
Timeless classic.
Really great song...heard it the radio today and had forgotten it.
What a great song even today it's still ones of my all-time favorites. Rock On!
+bucky468 Totally agree with you.Great song great time in my life. Video a little odd though.Rock On!
Time ...Fucking ...Machine ... Just the intro alone and I'm transported back to a care free time where I seemingly had endless days and time ahead of me and very little concern about the future .I was just finishing 6th grade when this came out and had just won a little league baseball championship and had just started to smoke weed .those were some unforgettable times coming in from the hot summer days to experience early teen-age highs in my best friends basement hearing this song constantly during that magical summer of 1979 on k-she 95 ... I'll never forget the feeling of those times and days that this song always seems evoke.
Music influenced me to learn guitar, play years in cover bands, and of course marry, get divorced, and lose everything...lol...always loved this and Run for Your Life...wore out the cassette. Makes me a bit sad, knowing how care free and cool the 70's and 80's molded us, now old...oh well....memories last forever!
Wow this takes me back. No computers, no cell phone. Good times
In the here and now in revelation. People get ready! I pray for all our souls! No time to lose!
Growing up in SoCal in the 70s and 80s was magical. There was no better place to be.
Lost rock songs! Never forget great tracks like this.
Rock on!
Tarney Spencer, Like Randy Meisner and Truimph had a baby
Our lost Youth's National Anthem. Those were the days.
The first time I heard this song I had to get the LP, what a great hard driving beat as I have to move to this song. It is a shame that this was there only number one song.
Wonderful time to be young. The MTV years and the joy of discovering new talent line Tarney Spencer. Life was simpler then with less hate and more fun times.
I had forgotten about this song...I'm glad to have found it. Ah, the memories from high school. Thanks for posting.
