Great video! I recommend always showing us where the functions are in the menu before showing us the keyboard shortcut. If we're using the function for the first time, it's crucial to know where it is in the DAW. Thank you!
Excellent video,... straight to the point, great flow, professional and comforting to thee eyes and ears. Also, it is nice that you always say if you're gonna make another video for specific techniques or content in the future. DOPE!
Alllllso, I want to know how to route tracks from a vst... Meaning, when I lay drums in Battery 4, I can change the output of each drum part. Right click on the pad and send it to output 3/4 (kick), output 5/6 (snare), and so on... Then I can eq each drum part. Then I usually route those tracks to a bus, maybe drop a parallel compression track next to it...
this is great! thank you steve! Nice to know the version/bookmark distinction. Last night I was just adding more and more tracks to try new takes lol so the version thing will be good to try next time : )
Right on mate! You could create new versions for the one track and start to drag the wav files from those additional “new take” tracks into each new version - if you wanna clean up the project. Cheers!
I'm watching every video, Steve. I really want LUNA to be my only DAW. However, It's still glitchy with my M1 mac. Nevertheless, I still believe in this Daw. Thank you for all you Do!
Yeah the M1 is still kind of in that growing pain stage. I think while a lot of people in the business expected Apple to do their own silicon, I think everyone was expecting them to give developers more time with them. Alas.. I don't think they did lol Anyways - it's only a matter of time, likely a shorter time. Hang in there brotha!
Next question, how do I undock or separate windows? (mix, edit)? I run three monitors/screens and I put my mixer on the left monitor, vst's on the right monitor, and edit window is the center. I want to detach those parts so I can see all information at one time.
Hey Steve. Simple one I think. Wondering about changing the name of a Track. Is it as simple as doing it in the Create section and it will affect the folder title etc?
Been going through these videos and they’re really great! Also, trying to grow some love for Luna (over Logic)! Requiring an interface to open your song, is very, very limiting for many of us. A bit of a warning if to anyone thinking about getting an Apollo to use with Luna IMO. We have the (annoying) iLok, man, so just let us at least open the project…. Thought about something… in your, or anyone reading this, opinion, why would one use count-in/pre-roll over leaving a manual count-in (besides the obvious, if your song starts off with a drum fill)? The former will allow for the bars to have correct numbers, which can be preferable in some cases. 🤔 This channel deserves a lot more subs, man! But there are so many music, gaming, food etc focused channels these days 😩 Keep up the good work! Btw, was 💯 sure and could’ve betted my Martin, that this was going to be a Tom Petty cover! 😆
Thanks for the kind words mate! ha and yeah - totally has that Tom Petty thing going for sure! .... If I were a betting man, I'd say that Luna will go the route of Pro Tools and open up to other interfaces, at least you would think.... but yeah the iLok thing is wonky. I mean if you're running UA plugs, you kind of need their DSP, so I mean at least a Satellite. But I get where you're coming from. as far as the count in vs pre roll - it's a great question. I usually just manually build in a pre roll. Although, for punch, could be useful to hear some of the track you're recording over first. Cheers mate!
@@TheSteveKinney Wow, that thought haven’t even crossed my mind tbh. But they’re all about money, so I guess that’s where Luna will go and right now their ecosystem seems to be working! 🤑🤑 Regarding their plugs and DSP, exactly! I don’t get it. They could easily go the Logic / GB for iPad route and give us a simple mixdown, but of each tracks, to play with 😜 thank you for your input and reply! Have a good one! 🤘
Thank you for this video. When I unarm a track (with ARM activate), the volume of the playback is quieter. I have no bus or no plugin in the session, just one track of guitar... I don't find a solution to this problem. Have you experience the same thing when you record and playback a track ?
Ya - but it’s normal because the signal path is different. 1 way is going straight into Apollo and back out The other path goes through the computer and daw and then back out.

It’s honestly really creative. Shape has some awesome sounds. Obviously the extra paid features really complete the package. Hi Steve! Thank you so much for explaining everything so well! It's a pleasure to watch and learn from you! I have a question on your Plugin Presets: I'm new to UAD and I have Apollo Twin X with the heritage bundle. I wanna record my songs basically with acoustic guitar and voice. Which presets would you recommend me to use from your website? And would I need the template bundles too since I´m not gonna record a whole band?
Hey mate! Cheers. Heritage Desktop edition would be the most applicable to your setup. If you use the UADx plugins, the native classics are handy as well. The mix templates aren’t necessary, but they might help you get a better sense of how to setup routing and best practices there!
@@luddiamant native class-x on my website are the preset packs that were built for the spark line up of plugins. They are meant to be used during post production.

Essentially this isn't a 101 type class? Because the instructor jumps around... There should be a video with basic steps... Thennn later, videos with customization. I just created a track, laid a drum pattern, then added a second track (the way you instructed). Only, the second track attached itself to the first track. When I load the next vst, the first track changes too. They act like Siamese twins... When I move one fader, they all respond.
Somehow, whenever you created the track, you selected all. They don’t group by default, but selection grouping is on by default - so somehow, you may have selected both tracks at once. Usually the culprit is the track pad.
Hey mate! Shot you an email. Again - looks like you only have the master bus created. You need to create a track first. “Command + Shift + N” is the keyboard command and that should bring up the dialog. Once the track is created it will let you choose your input. 😎👍🏻 Cheers!
It does not do this by default. However, a lot of folks have this happen if they are working via trackpad. Only because it’s sensitive. By default, Luna keeps track selection grouping on. This is the way it should be, so that when you select multiple tracks at once, your controls work in tandem. Just something to keep an eye out for is having multiple tracks selected.

you have as much external hardware as latency compensation works with luna
I’m sorry, I don’t know that I understand.
But - there is no external hardware delay compensation at this point.
When I go to input it just says "summing" not option for channel
That would be because you have added a “bus”
