    Just diving into your content and love it! I’ve had a Black Lion modded X6 for a couple years now, but I’m a staunch Cubase user for film scoring. I really really wish Luna would make an option to open midi in a full screen mode rather than the extra steps of blowing it up in the main window. For most composers, that gets a screen of its own.

      @TheSteveKinney  Год назад

      Thanks so much for the kind words mate!
      Ya - I’d be stoked if they keep coding out Luna to be more user specific.
      Take the idea of views further by going into task based views.
      Such as, composer, recording engineer, mix engineer etc
      You use different tools and shortcuts for each - and different visual tools. No reason you couldn’t do something unique like that.

    Great video. I was hard-core with cubase and protools back in the day but after a 10 year hiatus I jumped into Luna since it was a freebie with the new interface. Hoping they improve their midi editing as well as video support for film scoring. Contemplating grabbing Logic for writing and then exporting audio out to Luna for the summing and tape plugins

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  3 года назад +1

      Man, that's a crazy long hiatus! I'm glad you've made a comeback - just at the right time. Luna is legendary.
      It's not a bad idea to pick up logic for this reason - a lot of people are doing it. I'm sure it's not gonna be long though before the major hot topics things are fixed in Luna. They are improving a breakneck speeds.
      That said - I picked up an NVMe ssd to do all my Luna projects on until they get the session management under control, but I haven't looked back since.
      The midi stuff is interesting, I plan on doing a video on this for Luna. What's you're midi setup? Do you sync a bunch of external hardware? or simple keyboard kinda setup? Just wondering what kinda things I should make sure to cover on this.
      Cheers and thanks for the support!

      @@TheSteveKinney I'm using multiple arturia keyboard controllers with a ton of soft synth libraries. (Something I didn't anticipate was not having midi on the apollo compared to my digi 002R and a korg triton ProX from earlier years)
      One thing I'm hoping to see in Luna is a clips or samples folder off to the side like you would find in PT, logic or ableton. Trying to drop a bunch of groove tracks in to get some song ideas hasn't been as seamless of a process but I like forward to the vids.

    Great channel 🎉🎉🎉.Hi Steve I’m a seasoned Ableton user for12 yrs now but as I started taking mixing a bit more seriously there are some things I don’t like in Ableton and found much better results in Luna. However my pickle is bouncing out all tracks individually from projects in Ableton. There’s no button to bypass all plugins and trust me it’s a bleeding experience to do a 17 track album that was solely produced in Ableton.with Luna working with Templates seems nice as this is my custom in Ableton however I could drag whatever I wanted into whatever project I have going on from my browser view in Ableton even effects. If that’s something you do in Luna please feel free to share the process. Cheers

    One of the most annoying things I've found in Luna that markers are for song structure - counter to a marker is for any part of a wave clip, what I wanna sign for any reasons. Studio One has a way better method for this. Another issue that cannot find any shortcut for jumpin between markers ahead and back , in Windows beta release at least.

    I also use Apollo and I would like to try out LUNA.
    However, there are 2 little things holding me back based on a video you say "do not switch to LUNA yet".
    1) I think my FaderPort is not compatible (yet) and it is a big part of my workflow.
    2) Toontrack EZdrummer. I could not find anything about the (in)compatibility on the Toontrack website.
    Any news on these points?

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  3 года назад +1

      Hey Marcos! Thanks so much for watching and for your comments, & questions.
      I've been blown away with how fast the Dev team has pushed out updates, and since making this video, I took the plunge and switched! I'm now a producer/engineer that works exclusively in Luna now. It's a fun program, and they have fixed a ton of things.
      On their Office hours, they showed a preview of control surface support, it's definitely coming soon. I couldn't tell how soon from the video. Faderpoint would definitely be compatible, as they are bringing MCU support.
      Toontrack, EZX definitely works, I primarily use that myself. So you won't find anything that says it's incompatible, because it IS compatible. However, they still don't have multichannel output Instrument support. So if you liked to send the signals from the internal EZ Mix engine to individual faders inside of your DAW mixer.. That's currently not a possibility through the standard method. Not the biggest deal in the world, since you can work around it. Most of the time, I don't need to - it was just nice to grab a fader with my hands when I wanted to change a level. No telling when this one is actually coming to Luna. But again, the program runs great on it's own.
      Thanks for watching Marcos!
      Cheers!

      I’m still on Catalina though - a big problem people have in the creative field is updating software. It’s kind of the last thing you ever wanna do.
      If you’re computer is pre-2020 and you’re on whatever the hell OS apple has this week - you’re problem likely is that.
      Next time you buy a new device - keep it on that OS unless you absolutely HAVE to update.

    When printing back in with the virtual channels you said just press R to record back in... Freudian Slip..
    Also when comping isnt it best that you think of your comps as Versions and the actual recordings as Takes. Comping from Takes to Versions. Just to help with work flow/visual guide...
    Just take a little more time to proof check content before its rushed out. Ala not being ready with your virtual Channels in the beginning..

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  3 года назад +1

      Ahh yes. The muscle memory. Saying “r” - certainly the point was what’s important here, understanding that you’re recording the sound back in as a wav.
      As far as comping, I think it doesn’t matter what you call it - as long as you understand what’s actually going on.
      In Luna each take is called a version. And you have to manually build them together in another new version. (As I’m sure you know, just clarifying for anyone following the thread)
      I feel you with your final point, though I wanted to keep that in there so that people see how to do it - and trouble shooting steps.
      The truth is - I’m always bouncing from different configurations - as well as Daws. It could have been edited - but just figured it was more beneficial - especially if someone has experienced that and didn’t know how to fix it.
      Final side note: I don’t actually edit my own videos. I have an editor - who also is learning from my content while she edits. So sometimes she keeps things from her perspective.
      Keep the constructive criticism coming brotha!! I appreciate the support, and will continue to do my best to make each video better.

      And yeah - hardware inserts HAS to be there… should have been day 1.
      But I’m starting to think there is some sort of limitation with the Apollos as they are to integrate hardware inserts… or again, they are purposefully not including it, so people buy their plugins. Which IMO is a bullshit business practice lol
      The plugins are good enough that they don’t need any sort of forced buying mechanic… which leads me to believe that their leadership has hired the wrong people who don’t know their own customers.
      It’s been a strange few years for UA. that’s for sure.

      I wouldn’t look anywhere else outside of Universal Audio interfaces.
      Unless there is something super specific that you need.

      Well. I’d say it really depends on your needs.
      If you plan on being completely in the box - you’d be good with a twin or solo.
      If you wanna get more complex routing and I/o then you’d wanna go with one of the rackmounts like the x8 or x8p
      I personally - as a pro - use the x8, twin x, and then the solo for when I travel.
      Best,
      Steve

      Watch my studio rebuild video. 😉
      All of my earlier videos were filmed in my studio apartment downtown. Was never going to treat that because it was my main living space. And I knew I was gonna move out. It didn’t make any sense to do it.

    Yeah. I'd love to get started. But LUNA is STILL not ready for M1? I've been waiting. And waiting. And waiting. They've taken far too long compared to dozens of smaller companies. I have no confidence going forward with such a company. I'm sticking with Studio One. Too bad they can't get it together. Looks like a quality product in other ways.

      The only thing I have that still seems to be Rosetta is melodyne, weirdly.
      And the SSL UF8 control app.
      All other my installs on my Mac m1 have been a legitimate without any notice of Rosetta requirement.
