Universal Audio has just released its new Luna Recording System. This new DAW is completely free to anyone who owns an Apollo interface. This video is my first look and in-depth overview of its features and how to record and edit in Luna.

I’m a logic user just for the simplicity, but I do use UAD hardware so LUNA was there waiting for me. I knew about it but I never really put an effort into trying it I must say this DAW has a super warm feeling I believe I may get to know this one better thanks for the video.

Just got Lunar knew nothing about it. My confidence is building more and more each day. Like to know more and more as we go along. Was Sonar, Cubase, Reaper and Studio One user but this one is incredible got all my hardware working and that's a huge boost of confidence for me.

I think they called it Recording System and that name does it more justice... I was having such a hard time doing simple things like combining midi, pre roll, stretch audio, right click to get common functions

Killer video, Wavy! Maybe the best content on Luna I've seen so far. I just got the platform as well but coming from Ableton (never used PT or Logic) I feel a bit out of sorts. Cool to see you fly around the interface based on your familiarity with PT and even being able to leverage key commands that you already knew.
Bro, I just recorded and entire RnB soul record and evening before do any kind of EQ or mixing it sounds warm just like analog Consoles and tape... I’ve never heard any other DAW sound so smooth with 0 digital artifacts. I’ll be posting some of the record on my page after I mix master it tomorrow on my channel...
I think this is a cool new DAW. I am hoping to see the aspects of it that outmatch other standard DAWs like Studio 1, Reaper, and the industry standard Pro Tools. I feel this could be a game changer if many people start to switch to this Software.

After 5 days with LUNA we are breaking up. She's very conceited, she says she's more than a DAW. Even though she looks and behaves a lot like this other lady I know, Pro Tools. 😝 She whispers in my ear, "our relation is happy and free 😘" but every time I turn around she's in my pockets💰(plugins everywhere)😳 She doesn't play well with my friends (Avid Artist Mix, Console 1). Yes, this younger chick (LUNA) looks good but sometimes an old man like me has to stick with the lady (PT) he brought to the party. We have made beautiful music together over the years. I'm sure LUNA's wonderful. Guys enjoy.

Wayne how are you my brother ? nice video . looking around on all the comments on UAD I Think there is a lot of controversy right now with the topic to switch DAW'S Or not , I think you don't have to Switch , you can use it also just to record and then bouce your tracks to use them on you favorite DAW thats the way I'm using it , right now just to try it out, I actually like it a lot, and it will only get better with time I think, I think they should add the ability to make your own shortcut keys commands that will increase work flow a lot

Is it possible to record while monitoring through waves plugins? I dont want my AU plugins bypassed whenever I record.

Wayne.wav can you explain this concept in a video? Im a bit confused since theres no option to change buffer size.. not sure how turning off accelerated monitoring will effect the unison plugins or latency.

The only issue someone might run into is you can only use this DAW if you have the Apollo twin MK2 or newer.
Ah , Mac only ? I have a $2500 PC with Thunderbolt 3. Hopefully for an iPad? How about Windows ? Also free ? Yeah , only $700 to get a start. Not a DAW. A recording system that can offer you only at least $700 for extentions. Do not need the Steinway Plugin, I have a real Steinway. I also have a Moog. Oh yeah, mac guys, good luck with authorizing the free software. Welcome to iLok if you have not been there yet. There have been some issues with authorizations. It is not all roses.

Bro how in the he’ll do you activate the “precount” to record vocals/instruments???? Seems like you have to set the cursor at “0” then hit record and wait til it gets to “1” or the first bar to start recording basically using the “0” as the precount,

Justin Smith Ctfu truth bro that’s how I was, but I just learned how to do it you have to hold option then click on the time line (bars/numbers) then it will show a pre darker blue 1 bar note and when u recording it will start from that and act as the precount and you can set it how ever many bars you want

If you bought the Studer UAD2 plug-in, it will be available in Luna for free, so it seems.

Let's see what it does! Great overview! It seems to me this is only appealing for someone who wants to get in the UAudio ecosystem. I would also use FREE LOOSELY! UAudio interfaces are overpriced when you look at features, inputs, and outputs versus price. The DAW makes the interfaces a little more justifiable for someone who wants a high-quality interface and has not committed to a DAW. Saw nothing that would make a Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, or Studio One user consider switching over. More of a perk for those who choose the ecosystem! Give us more to see what it does. Once again, awesome as usual!
I have been trying to escape ProTools for years now. So tired of the delays with compatibility with my MacOS and other annoying shit. This is a lifesaver for me and since I already own an Apollo, it was a no brainer.
These guys are trying to take over the market from Pro Tools but I can sense they are not in a hurry which is good.

You mentioned comping versions. I don’t see a way to view all versions to make a comp. it only lets me see one version at a time.

You said that you don't have to use the Console with Luna. Does the processing of the UAD plugins still occur in the Apollo or does using Luna without the Console causes the processing of the plugins to occur in the computer's processor?
