Takara Micro Change Gun Robo (Megatron) | A Collector’s Guide to Vintage 1980’s Pre-Transformers

- Join me as I show my rare Takara Micro Change version of Black G1 Megatron in my Collector’s Guide to Vintage 1980’s Pre-Transformers. This is such a cool variant of a classic G1 figure. This version of Megatron comes with a sword and a gun but does not come with his iconic fusion cannon or his stock and as a result there are a few moulding differences in his alt mode.
Leave me a comment and let me know what you think about this cool version of Megatron.
I hope you enjoyed the video. If you do, please be sure to like, comment, subscribe and share.

FYI: I know this is late but I just rewatched this video after a while, now being able to read the text in the box, so here goes:
The first bullet says: Doitsu no meijuu (something like Germany's renowned)
Second bullet: Ano warusa - P38 ga (That Walther - P38-) continued in the third bullet
Third bullet: Ganrobo ni mikuro chenji (Micro-changes into a Gunrobot)
The text next to the MC just says ミクロマン(mikuroman) or Microman, the text right next to it says ガンロボ (ganrobo) or Gun-robo, and the large text in the bottom says
ワルサ_P38 (Warusa_P38), or Walther_P38.
EDIT: I didn't know, but jū apparently means gun, so meijū should mean famous gun.
Thank you for circling back to share the translation of the wording on the packaging. I have just pinned your comment. Have a great weekend.
Fantastic piece! While I'm not into G1 as you are, I can definitely understand and respect not only this figure, but it's origins and what the means in the grandscheme of where our transformers originally came from. Without these pieces people, there wouldn't be any transformers and that's a fact. Beautiful piece, thanks for taking the time to share this with us M.
Thanks for watching and commenting, my friend. I agree that this is an important piece of Transformers history. Like you said, everything goes back to the original figures in the Takara Diaclone and Micro Change lines. Having said that, it’s pretty amazing to see how transformers have evolved over the past 30 years. MP Megatron looks like he stepped right out of the cartoon. Cheers M
Nice micro change black gunrobo.
Thanks brother. It’s one of my favourite pre-transformers figures.
Excellent example of a pre g1 transformers megatron you have a rare piece of takara history 👏
Thanks. This was a tough variant for me to find. I’ve been to a number of 80’s conventions over the years but have never seen another one for sale. I suppose that makes sense since it never had a North American release.
Fantastic piece and very well reviewed indeed
Thank you very much for the compliment on my review. I really appreciate it. I know you are also a huge Megatron fan. I removed over 8 minutes of the video to make it a little bit more RUclips friendly. I personally enjoy longer reviews but appreciate that many others don’t. Thanks for commenting. Cheers M
I agree they should have ehobby Masterpiece edition Megatron with the the diaclone Megatron color and they were called Darkside Megatron.
I would definitely buy a Masterpice Megatron in that color scheme. That would be awesome. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video.
Very interesting! It's hard to imagine that Transformers didn't start the way we thought, it's was all in Japan at the time, that's how it started right before we had the official Transformers line! It's a shame that Hasbro won't make a re-issue of G1 Megatron because of gun laws, but we've had many different versions of the Decepticon leader, plus you can always get the MP version which looks awesome, very cool review!
You’re quite right. It’s difficult to believe that the Transformers existed before 1984 and before the original cartoon. It would have been cool if Hasbro produced a reissue G1 Megatron but fortunately there have been several Takara G1 reissues produced over the years for anyone who wants to own one. I love the new MP-36 version. It looks like he stepped right out of the cartoon. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers.
My pleasure!
I love Megatron for life all hail Lord Megatron to all are one
Hi Lisa. Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m a huge Megatron fan too. I reviewed the Worlds Smallest G1 Megatron on my channel a little while back. You might find that one interesting too if you haven’t already seen it. Have a nice weekend. Cheers.
Such a nice figure.... wish I'd got a version of this a number of years ago.... great video 👍
Thanks Graham. I really like this version of Megatron. I’ve actually seen a cool old KO version of it that I’d also like to get for the right price some day. Would you be in on an MP Megatron in the black and brown color scheme?
if i had the money to buy it yes lol...... id love to the the upcoming chrome version but ill have to leave that
I’ve preordered the new chrome version but I really need to slow my roll a little bit with these new purchases.
haha oh ive been there
I hope they released this Megatron with this color as Darkside Megatron
Yeah, that would be really cool.
I used to own this and a few of the other gun robo. They creeped me out after a while.
I had the g1 megatron as a kid I miss this figure
Hi David. G1 Megatron is such an cool figure. Takara has actually reissued the regular version a number of times, if you ever decided that you wanted to add one to your collection. Thanks for checking out the video and for commenting. Cheers
This is incredible. Definitely the holy grail. Once again, great review and very informative. Wondering, although the artwork is different from G1 Meg, is it the same artist. Hmmm... Awesome though.
Hi Audie. Thanks for your comment. I know you’re a G1 fan so I thought you would appreciate this review. I’m guessing that the artist is different but it would be interesting to know for sure. I should have included a screenshot of the G1 box artwork next to it but completely forget until now I was struggling with some other issues with the video so it fell off my radar.
Nice job showing off this figure bro and comparing him to the other Megs as well. Great figure and great artwork on the box as well!
Joe
Thanks Joe. It’s about time this figure saw the light of day again. I have no idea why I didn’t review it earlier. Megatron looks great in black and brown. I should have shown the G1 box art so people could have seen the differences. Cheers M
Great review! I didnt even know this existed! Lol
This looks just like a real gun. A kid coulda got in a bad situation playing with him in the gun mode back in the day.... Woah
I seem to remember hearing about a kid getting into trouble with a regular Megatron back in the 80’s but I’m not sure if that’s one of those myths or legends that never actually happened but that we all think we remember. This is a very cool figure. You’re probably not alone. I’m betting that a lot of people probably don’t know that it exists.
Transformers and Video Games you know I started to mention that. My grandma told me a kid got killed for pointing megatron at a cop. She wouldn't let me play with mine outside. Since you heard? Of a similar story maybe it's true, or maybe it's a Mandela effect. Lol
It’s tough to say if it’s true or not but it’s the reason why my mother wouldn’t buy me a G1 Megatron when I was a kid. She agreed to buy my Sunstreaker instead, which is a cool figure but a poor substitute for a Megatron.
Awesome video👍😉Great grab
Thanks bro. I’m really happy with it.
I feel like I've just watched something quite, quite special, that is a beautiful specimen you have there, I could have started at the box alone for hours.
Whoa 😮, What a clean specimen. I mean you even have the clear plastic strap to secure the figure in the box from breaking through the plastic window.
I really appreciate you are willing to take out of the box and show the actual transformation.
I appreciate the blue inner color, but I feel Hasbro got it right making him silver with red inner legs / arms. The contrast and color pallet of the version we grew up with is so much better.
So cool you have this version, theres no way to even ship a figure like this these days. It’s a Very nice piece to have in your collection. 👍
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing this figure. I know what you mean about the color pallet being better on our version of Megatron. This one was a little bit scary for me to deal with on camera. It was super tight. I thought I was going to break it during transformation and nearly abandoned the review a few times. I bought this locally years ago so I didn’t need to worry about having anyone shop it to me, etc. Thanks for watching.
Hell yes 👍👊
Thanks bro. This is one of my favourite vintage pre-transformers figures. Cheers M
You hear the rumors, someone caught a glimpse or was told by a friend of a friend 🤔
Me, I heard from a friend, he saw it on our area, I always thought it was a knock off that he saw. Years later, I found out about Micro Change, and saw a Revolver but not a black Megatron...till now 😮
This was epic M, great video 👍🏽✌🏽
Thanks brother. I know that a woman reviewed the same version of Megatron as I have a number of years ago on RUclips but it’s not one that you see very very often. I’ve had mine for years and finally decided to review it. There are other gun robo figures though including a black magnum which is pretty cool though. Thanks for watching the video and for your kind words. I really appreciate your support. Cheers M
Megatron P38 what?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No friggin way!!!!!!! That is awesome!!!!!
Yes sir. I think Megatron actually looks pretty amazing in this color scheme. It’s interesting how times change. They wouldn’t sell something like this in North America any more. Nowadays Megatron is usually a tank or a truck but I have always preferred the original alt mode.
This is very detailed information and very descriptive. Great review like always I like the sticker sheet. The die-cast was aweosme.
Hi Khan. Yeah, the die cast is great. It adds a nice amount of weight to the figure. I love finding minty vintage figures with unused sticker sheets. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers M
Good for Lupin III cosplayers
Oh yeah...for sure. It looks exactly the same. Thanks for watching and commenting.
So sweet! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, Danni. Have a great weekend.
Be careful with the old stuff when transforming them. I broke a couple before. I thought about collecting more of the pre-transformer stuff, but that stuff is really getting expensive. One can never have enough Megatrons...
That’s really good advice. I was actually a little bit scared transforming this one. It was super tight. I had to struggle with it a lot but I just edited that out of the final cut of the review.
What a cool variation on what we already know and love. On a side note to what we were discussing the other day, I'm going to wait until it's significantly worth sending if you get my drift as there's a couple of things I need to sort out. Anyway, cool video from a cool guy. Have a great weekend my friend.
Thanks for watching, Matt. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Sure, sounds good. Perhaps you could just give me a heads up whenever you send it so that I can tell my friend so that he can start checking for me. Have a great weekend. Cheers M
Thanks for watching, Matt. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Sure, that sounds good. Perhaps you could just give me a heads up whenever you send it so that I can tell my buddy so that he can start checking for me. Take it easy and have a great weekend.
I noticed that on your fig the inside blue color of one arm is different from the other. I have the same but the italian GIG realised. On mine the blue color is different from one leg to the other... I'm wondering why
It’s awesome that you have the Italian GIG release of this amazing figure. You have a really good eye for detail. I didn’t notice that at all but just watched back the video and see exactly what you mean. My guess is that it has something to do with the way those particular pieces of plastic have aged or possibly those specific parts were made from a different production run of the figure and the plastic stock never matched. Thanks for pointing this out. If I ever hear. A better explanation I’ll be sure to share it with you. Thanks for commenting.
That is a great find. I have 4 versions of Megatron and this version is news to me. I wouldn't mind having one myself. And to anyone interested the KO MP-36 is Infinite Transformations IT01 which I own and highly recommend.
I’d love to eventually have all of the vintage variants of Megatron in package but I still have a ways to go. What are the 4 versions of Megatron that you have? You’re right about the Megatron that I show at the end of this video being the Infinite Transformations version. It’s very well made. I also have the official Takara Tomy version. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Aside from the IT01, an MP05, DX9 Mightron, and a G1 reissue that fires pellets and has blue for the inside of the arms and legs. The reissue was an official I acquired in the early 2000's and had packaging like the 16S version and the same accessories except with blue instead of red for the inside of the arms and legs, came with plastic bullets it could fire, and had no chrome on the chest and arms. I unfortunately lost my original as a kid but mainly collect masterpiece scale these days but have a particular appreciation for any version of G1 megatron.
You have a very impressive Megatron collection. I think I know the version of G1 Megatron that you’re referring to. It is referred to as eHobby G1 Megaplex and the story (fiction) is that it’s supposed to be a clone of Megatron to act as a decoy for the Autobots, or something like that. It’s a very cool version of the toy. It’s nice having one without the chromed plastic to add to the variety of Megatron variants out there to collect.
Mc 11 magnum 44 is also cool🔥
I had an opportunity to buy a loose one a number of years ago but didn’t. It would have been a pretty cool addition to the collections. Pre-Transformers are just too expensive now unless you get really lucky.
You could definitely trick somebody with this Transformer in gun mode...💯✔ Can you imagine robbing somebody with Megatron in gun mode...💁♂️ That's pretty funny to think about...🤭
I’m not sure if it actually happened or not but there’s an urban legend, for lack of a better term, of some kind of altercation with a G1 Megatron toy back in the day which is why they make him a tank, a truck or a jet for his North American releases nowadays. In reference to your question last week, this figure is a great example of a pretransformer. It’s a different color entirely and the packaging is branded Takara Micro Change, which is the toy line many of these figures were released under in Japan before they were brought to North America.
Youre not wrong dude. It was indeed gunrobo walther p38.
Thanks man. Do you collect pre-transformers?
@@TransformersAndVideoGames heh I wish.
Yeah, they can be pricey. I haven’t bought one in a while.
2:02 It reads 'Walther' as pronounced in German (Warlsar) :P
That’s really interesting. Thanks for checking out the video and for commenting.
Did they put a warning sign "Do not aim to people"
If they didn’t, then they really should have...LOL. Thanks for watching and commenting.
They just need to put it on the box the "before you play" sign
Does the box have any bullet point text for the sword? I'm looking for a canonical name for the sword.
You couldn't play with a toy like this outside in the US. You'd probably get shot by a cop.
Yes, they haven’t sold a Megatron with this particular alt mode in North America in decades…likely for that exact reason.
Do you have the fusion cannon for the 3rd party masterpiece version of Megatron?
Yes, I do. I’m not sure why I didn’t have it on his arm when I did the comparison in this video. Thanks for commenting.
Diecast construction... It's a lost art.
I totally agree with you. The build quality is head and shoulders above modern day retail figures. It feels sturdy and very substantial in hand. Thanks for watching and for commenting. I really appreciate it. If you like Megatron, I also reviewed a worlds smallest G1 Megatron that might interest you. Cheers.
My Megatron is not stiff
Most G1 Megatrons do tend to get a get a little bit loose over the years...mainly due to the design.
1:44 it say says walter
Thanks do you mean the lettering on the box?
@@TransformersAndVideoGames In Japanese it's Warusa, which is katakana of Walter. The line above it says "MC Mikuroman" "Ganrobo".
Thanks for letting me know. I always enjoy learning more about this type of thing. I appreciate your comment.
What I'm wondering is how you got it overseas
I actually bought it from someone locally but I’m guessing that they had it shipped in robot mode when they originally purchased it.
@@TransformersAndVideoGames yeah that's probably a good thing he got it in robot mode 😂
เป็นอีกตัวที่เคยมีนะหายหมดเสียดายมาก
Oh my gawd....
