- After Katherine Waterston took out a couple neomorphs in Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT, it looks like that's the end of the new batch of ALIEN films according to this new rumor. At this point 20th Century Fox should green light Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 before the Disney buyout is complete.

Covenant suffered the same backlist as last Jedi, it abondoned the story it setup in Prometheus, people wanted Shaw and David discovering the engineers Homeworld. We didn't get that properly.
They were killed off as in the Last Jedi.... I guess thanks Fox for not wasting money on the last jedi.
Alien Episode 8: the last David
I hated how Scott just rode roughshod over Neill Blomkamp's idea for Alien 5. Basically saying to Fox that he is the better director, his name carries more power, they should do it his way or else and Fox just shrugged and kicked Blomkamp to the curb. Yes, Chappie's failure didn't help matters, but I think it's clear it was Scott who nailed the coffin lid firmly on Blomkamp's idea. Personally I was SOO looking forward to the idea of getting Ripley and Hicks back on screen with a kick ass Marines vs Aliens, that would have been a dream come true.

I promise fans wouldn't of cared whether the film was about aliens or engineers THEY JUST WANTED A GOOD STORY.
both times Ridley Scott had the opportunity to give us the Alien prequel that we wanted and both times he messed it up end of story, if HR Giger would have lived to have seen what they have done with his alien he would roll over in his grave.
I think that Mr. Scott should finish his story. For goodness sake, let Bloomcamp do his Alien 5 movie.

It came really close, at one point. Disney had the license, but didn’t get to do it because Michael Eisner was convinced not to (though they did have the Alien bit in The Great Movie Ride). What we did get was the watered-down ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which scared too many kids, leading to Disney replacing it with Stitch’s Great Escape, one of the most hated attractions in WDW.
Anyway, point is, there’s no way in hell Disney would make an Alien attraction after all that, even if Ridley Scott made a masterpiece of a franchise.
It hopefully is. Scott does not deserve to violate this franchise any further.

A lot of people forget that giger was involved with how things also looked on screen not just design I'm the first film, ridley was surrounded by sheer talent back then, it was like Lucas and star wars of the time, right place, right time, best writers and designers ever (before dawn of CGI) and both directors were partially lucky. Go back and watch the old videos of behind the scenes of alien and you'll see how much everyone else did to make this film work apart from ridley.
Ridley Scott needs to let go of the franchise and let some new blood have a chance at it, after all, the best Alien film wasn't even directed by him.
Don't be so quick to let Ridley Scott go. Look at Star Trek and Star Wars. New blood hasn't made them any better. In fact they've lost what makes them unique.

Depends what you're looking for out of an Alien film.. Aliens was more of an action film. The original Alien was a horror movie.
I love them both.
Prometheus didn't hit the mark but trying to shift gears and turn Covenant into a completely different movie halfway into production is what killed it. If they had stuck with their original plan, Covenant wouldn't feel so Half-assed.
Star Trek screwed up when they went action focused from the beginning, and I've actually enjoyed the current Star Wars run.

NorEEzta Disney would give us more of Alien Resurrection. And the Xenomorph isn't a good monster to use anymore after being diluted by a string of movies where there were hordes of them.

No, I want to see more of the Space Jockey. For 30 years I have ALWAYS wondered about that dead thing in the chair in the spaceship from the first film. I want to know more about THAT thing, I need to know where it was going with all those eggs and where did the Xeno that it birthed went to. But NO, I still haven't gotten those answers and I don't think I ever will at this point.

Yes they are. That is what Ridley intended the jockey to be. It is in the special features on the Prometheus Blu Ray how they designed.

Well judging by the fact the Xenomorph is not robotic enough,in my mind it is pretty obvious that David will be infected himself and to give a final curve ball it is likely david is the space jockey. But it might be a BS theory in the end.

James Cameron went on positive direction when made Aliens. Ridley Scott totally jealous about Cameron made better sequel than him. Scott messed up the hole alien franchise making those prequels. Cameron & Scott needs to make alien movie that involves crashing of the derelict ship harbors alien eggs. Good prequel of the mystery of the alien uprising.

Ridley has totally screwed up the alien franchise. I totally hate the stupid concept of a demented android being the creator of the xenos. Once down this path, all that follow will be complete trash. i really liked Prometheus the first time around. and even though its impact was dimished by closer scrutiny and the public dissenction it went through, it still an entertaining and technically excellent movie to me. covenant like the last jedi had some hope for most of the first hour. but its all thrown away about halfway through. and by the end youre just shattered by all the bad decisions and missed opportunities. so much potential for good thrown away by committee like thinking.

Scott doesn't show you something for nothing, the puppet scene was to hint us that David had control over those type of bugs but not the last one, that one was out for blood and didn't give a rats ass about David either, thus David didn't think twice before venting it in space... People go into these movies thinking the movies owe them something, the movie were made for just them, all the answers in your life will be right there to discover... pfff , Scott tried to please fans and executives so much that you can feel the change of directions he had while filming Covenant...
Let Scott tell his story, its his, only his, let him share it with us, maybe you wont like it, maybe you will, maybe you will just enjoy the damn thing for what it is, a story in his made up universe. Last movie was the perfect setup for the awesome bloodbath that was to come, but now even that might get canned for a couple of years due to some self proclaimed critics and a bunch of youtube crybabies ... I for one enjoyed those movies for what they were...

I think AvP should be rebooted. There is potential there. Don't reboot the Alien trilogy as that was great as it was. Reboot the shit AvPs and improve them.
The only Alien worthy sequel was "Aliens: Colonial Marines" and that's a game.

The AvP movies were definitely better prequels as they did prequel the story of the franchise.

I felt there were too many plot holes between Prometheus and Covenant. The Engineers from Prometheus were awesome. What was up with them in Covenant? I thought Shaw's character was written out for no good reason either. I loved that franchise, and I had high hopes.
The Alien franchise has long outlived its cultural relevance. There's no mystery to the xenomorph and now it's no longer scary.
I don't know what people are talking about. There were neomorphs and xenomorphs thoughout the entire movie. As soon as one would get killed another was made. They couldn't kill them fast enough. I thought Covenant was good. Mix of psych horror with monster horror.
How about we left this prequel saga to die off, and a few years from now we do a reboot or pseudo-reboot that isn't about either David or Ripley? Both Fassbender and Sigourney Weaver are great actors, but being overly attached to their characters have been screwing up this movie series ever since Alien3.
I couldn't agree with what you said more. Such a good idea to let Covenant fade into ambiguity and finish up the last prequel with a different director, if possible.

Alien Covenant was a surprisingly "mundane" movie that didn't make me feel much one way or another. The xeno GI Joe figure that popped out of the captain had me on the floor.

Disney used to have a ride that was inspired by Alien in Magic Kingdom back in the 90's but it was repalced with a lame Stitch ride in the early 2000's mainly because it was too scary for kids. That should have been in there Hollywood park though but they wanted to reuse an existing building Magic Kingdom that had been designed for an outdated ride.

The Synth is far more dangerous than the xenomorphs. I don't understand why people don't see the underlying story here. The engineers created the xenomorph virus. The humans created synthetic lifeforms that are potentionally more dangerous. Let's have 20 movies in a row about marines vs aliens.. they win, they lose, they escape.. and that 20 times over and over again... sounds like a good cash cows. I've been to the last Aliens films. I haven't been going to any Star Wars or Transformers movies.
Disney is just going to scrapped the Alien franchise or put it on the back-burner for a reboot in the next few years.

I enjoy the Alien mythos and despite the obvious flaws of the last 2 movies I am interested in a movie about David playing god with xenomorphs and the surviving colonists.

Personally, I liked Covenant, I just wished he had tied it more to Alien. Apparently, the script was going to explain more about the Engineers in Prometheus and Covenant was going to connect everything better, but a lot of fans wanted more xenomorph action, so that's what Ridley made. I guess its a unpopular opinion to like the two new movies and AVP. 😂
The opening scene of Prometheus held the promise of what every science fiction movie should promise, which is that we were going to see something alien and awe inspiring. It didn't quite get there, so I am still waiting for them to fulfil their promise.

Ridley Scott shouldnt be making Alien films the fact that the last 2 films have been such bad horror films just goes to show that his direction of the first Alien movie was a fluke and that if he could have done CG back then it would have been filmed much differently. Give the Alien franchise to someone who understands the Sci-fi aesthetic of the universe and how to make a good horror film until that happens we'll keep getting these half baked films that dont really work.

That is a rather rude thing to say about Sci-Fi. The best Sci-Fi often focuses less on the science and more on the fiction. The Alien films always used the Sci-Fi setting as a tool to create fear through isolation and confined spaces. in my opinion Alien:Resurrection was a better Alien film than the Prometheus or Alien:Covenant and most people hate Alien:Resurrection.

If Ridley Scott had plan to move to a different direction? Than he should of named this movie with a new title and Not alien what ever number. Worse he got it in our heads this is prequels to alien, he took the mystery out of the first alien movie by going this direction, It should of been a multi prong investigation into the lost of the ship and crew from the first movie. Two prongs should competing companies want the advanced tech for money and the third is the government and military wanting to get to the bottom of what has happened and make sure it won't effect earth, this will keep the mystery of alien intact.
I follow the AVP Galaxy and Perfect Organism website/podcasts from were the information came through. One of the authors is going clear up the situation since media/movie websites have blown this information out of proportions since this news came out in September - The same time when Fox was re-assessing on what to do with the series. I'm surprised no one put two and two together back then until now.
However, as a few months back we had Fox's Stacey Snider speak about the next film were she says they still trust Scott and his producer with the franchise. However, they need to find the right story to go from since using the familiar elements from the original three films didn't work. She mentioned they need to branch into a new direction, find a new planet, with formidable villian, etc. From this, Fox had not pulled the plug on Scott's film though just made him change direction. People on these websites truly need to verify their sources against what was said recently before posting crap like this on line.
I'm interested in David as a character and his story arch and from the number of RUclips videos on the subject I'm not the only one - that does not mean I or people have lost interest in the Aliens and their story. Covenant was an action movie made as a reaction Prometheus to social media. Social media is a constant stream of verbal incontinence.
Blomkamp is not a great, innovative director. Oh my goodness his only claim to fame was District Nine? District Nine makes The Last Jedi looks like an Academy Award Best Picture winner.

The alien fanchise has pretty much already been female led. They could be seen as films that do feminism right. But Disney is more on the gynocentric side of things, replacing men entirely with minorities and women while pushing the patriarchy antagonist angle. I don't think Alien would draw enough of an audience for them. They will need to gut it's soul out to fit their narrative and be toned down for the general audience. This is not the treatment Alien needs, so it's best they just kill it and sell off the property or bury it.

blah i think franco and McBride where the only cast members with the exception of Michael Fassbender being Obviously key to the plot progression in the narrative but as per usual FOX wanted the ALIEN and it had to be dropped in at some point with all it's iconic egg etc.
i think it would of been better if they made a Your Highness Sequel with Fassbender as the new bad guy.
Personally, if Riddley made the movie more like how M Night made Split where he made a sci-fi movie and threw in "The alien" maybe or "Blade runner" continuity like have it a 3rd franchise that links all the movieverse and not uses the alien franchise but it's not going to happen.

I LOVE LOVE. prometheus👍🏻 Am not too big on the whole Alien franchise - Alien and Alien 2. Covenant had some good moments 🤔 In all, the plot was way WAY too fast at developing - little suspense not much in depth characters and Little is left for the imagination.

Seriously though, it would've made more sense if the Predators made the Xenomorphs to hunt them than what we got with David.
Covenant works well for me. But i understand its not what Aliens fans want. Ive just written characters that remind me of David, and there was resonance there for me, plus its gore is just incredibly over the top. But Im more into covenant as a stand alone sci fi mystery science theatre/Twilight zone type tale from space than a proper Aliens film.
