Once upon a time there was a woman who had three daughters: the eldest had three eyes, the middle one had one eye, and the youngest had two eyes. The woman first wanted to many off her two elder daughters, therefore, she rejected the suitor of the youngest one. Nevertheless, with the help of the magic goat, the youngest daughter marries the young man she loves.
Made by the Kecskemét Film Studio.
Directed by: Mária Horváth, Marcell Jankovics

I feel so sorry for the goat. 🥺 He was a sweetheart.

I thought the goat will be reborn from the tree that appeared after she buried its bones

I was crying when I saw this movie in my childhood. Why didn't she escape with the goat?
@@whiterussian22maybe the goat was re-born as the tree
I feel like a lot of these folk tales was a tired parent just improvising a bedtime story to get their kids to fall asleep
I feel so too.
My dad
I don't know if I should laugh or what xd
Well, yeah? That's what most fairy tales are. That's why they're often so simple and formulaic
duh
You know, the mother isn’t wrong for wanting her two other daughters to get married. Knowing how different they looked, knowing that they wouldn’t likely be picked. Her problem is that she misdirected her anger.
You're right. Even in today's world differences are seen to be accepted very rarely .
Actually, she didn't like her 2 eyed daughter because she was too common
It doesn't justify her neglecting and abuse at Two-eyed.
@@rubirajkhowa2560I sure hope that you were sarcastic with that comment.
@@rubirajkhowa2560 In today’s world if you aren’t diverse on the outside then your rejected.
did yall notice how the number of eyes they had were equal to the number of ponytails ???.
I think it's kind of interesting seeing the similarities between this story and Cinderella.
My thoughts exactly. Now the evil (step) sisters is quite a common trope in Fairy Tales. the girl from Beauty and the Beast also has two spiteful sisters.
A lot of movies or fairytales originate from old stories like these Jon solo on RUclips dedicated most of his channel to explaining fairytale origins
The end is kind of bittersweet in regard to the goat. Sad that he died, and kind of sweet that his buried bones grew an apple tree that allowed him to still feed his human after his death.
Actually in the original ending to the story, the two other sisters actually apologized for their misdeeds and were forgiven and allowed to stay at the two eyed girls castle, kinda wished they kept that
But then the story would be longer still.

@@GIRLZ-ARE-HAWT I was quoting the narrator's closing line.
That's the German version. This is the Hungarian version, as you can see by the blonde guy's glorious mustache.
They tried to starve her to death, killed her goat and ate it in front of her. A simple apology isn't enough, they don't deserve any forgiveness.
The whole narration and graphic animation is so pleasing. I love traditonal stuffs and authentic story telling.
Very few people know that the Hungarian folk tale is not just a fairy tale. They have a very serious philosophical content. Behind the content is the zodiac chronology. In Hungarian: "Nap út" (maybe Sun trip(?) in English). Every action and animal has a meaning. There is literature on this, books and lectures have been published on the subject.
So what is the meaning behind this?
@@victorlolxd7347yeah they didn’t explain it anything.
Is this a part of bibile or something?
4:05 - They covered the 3-eyed daughters' middle eye to make her look normal? Why didn't they do that when the young suitor was visiting? Were they afraid that he would discover the trick and furiously leave?
most likely because she thought herself prettier than the two eye girl and to cover it meant she wouldn't be as attractive to the man
well one way or another he would find it (their goal was to marry) so it sort of defeats the purpose
When I was a kid, my mom used to tell me this as bedtime story. I never knew it's Hungarian folktale.
Neither did I
It was evident right from the start that the mother infinitely favoured her two older daughters more than her youngest one: she patted her oldest daughter’s face, checked her oldest and second-oldest daughters’ dress and hair, but did not spare a glance at the youngest.
In Russian fairy tale there is the same story except few moments. First, there was a step mother with two daughters with one and three eyes. And the two-eyed daughter was step-daughter. So that’s why they didn’t love her. Second moment-there was a cow pet,not a goat. And the other part of this story is the same.
In Assamese folk tale there is also a story exactly like this and of course few moments were different. Seeing the similarities made me fascinated. It's crazy how folktales from different countries, languages and cultures are so similar.
In the Grimm version, the tree follows Two Eyes to her new home, much to her sisters’ chagrin. Karma gets them when they fall into poverty (the mother must have died) and have to go begging, which is how they meet up with Two Eyes again. She takes them in and they repent the way they treated her. I like how there is punishment here before the forgiveness and the sisters actually earn forgiveness.
Poor goat. From serving at the dinner table to becoming a part of it.
The animation is so unique! How inspiring
7:40 no wonder they're all fighting over this guy, the dudes caked
Oh Lordy! Fr
I remember my grandmother telling this story to us at bedtime..but we are Nepali from India..it was the exact story she told us that she heard from her mummy
There was a one eyed soldier among tthe princes army. He married the one eyed sista.Third eyed girl covered her third eye, married , and kept it hidden until she gave birth to a beautiful 2 eyed boy. 😀
This story resembles my mother's childhood life so much.
She was the prettier sister among the other two. Her parents never let her do anything she wanted because she was pretty and they wanted to keep her safe. While her sisters hated her for that, that she gets all the attention and care from parents.
Even while arrange marriage of other sisters, my grandparents had hid my mother till her sisters were married so that their arranged husbands might rejected them and married her, it was quite common those days.
The story resembles her so much.
I am happy now though my mother doesn't have such a loving husband but he let's her do anything on her will though still keeps her a little on safer side. I am happy she can experience the freedom she wanted in life but still complains about her past which is quite valid.
Jeez this sounds like yall are living in the 19th century, hope its better for you now
I'm a little sad to note that the whole conflict of the story was based on the fact that no one was willing to marry the two older sisters and only the youngest was accepted as beautiful.
If you notice, in the beginning of story, the mother favors her two eldest daughters. She checks their clothes and treat them affectionately, while ignoring the youngest daughter. Besides, it's human's right to choose whoever one likes/loves and it's wrong to direct your anger to innocent people just because you're rejected. Mother and her eldest daughters are completely immature. They can't handle rejection gracefully and they abuse innocent youngest daughter. I won't blame the prince tho. He's honest with his preference and doesn't force his way to get the youngest daughter. He doesn't pretend to accept the eldest or the middle one. The problems come from mother and two eldest daughters, they are envious and cruel.
For everyone saying, "she had a happy ending because she was beautiful" you need to read the full thing.
First, the one eyed and three eyed sisters believed themselves prettier than their two eyed sister on account of having two eyes being "plain" and "common"
Second, none of the bad things would have happened to them if they had shown basic kindness towards their sister.
What if they don’t wanna see it that way because they’re the sisters? ❤
Is it a coincidence that all the pretty ones in these stories are blonde?😂
@@kchashet310
No. "Fair" is the old term for pretty AND blond.
Having a pale complexion and bright hair was a beauty ideal in medieval Europe.
I love Hungarian Folk Tales, and this story is one of my favorites! However, does it ever bother anyone that upon discovering that the goat could produce a table full of food, the first reaction of the sisters and mother was to... slaughter it? Like, just keep the goat around, and you all never have to work another day in your lives because the goat can seemingly produce limitless quantities of food! It truly is sad that the pettiness of the older sisters and mother blinded them to the resolution that would have benefited everyone. Plus, if the mother wanted to marry off her eldest daughters, suitors would probably be enticed by the INFINITE FOOD TABLE GOAT.
In the version I heard, both the mother and eldest daughter had 1 eye each, the middle daughter had 2 and the youngest had 3. The prince chose her (The middle 2 eyed daughter) because she was the only one who could pick the apples. The tree disappeared off the mother's property and appeared at the palace and the mom and sisters were struck with bad luck and ended up begging door to door.
Such memories, been looking for this for over 25 years thank you so much

I loved the Hungarian folk tales when i was a kid
This is the greatest show I ever seen in my entire life
I differently remember that I saw Russian folk tail with one, two, three eyed daughters. There was different plot but it’s was similar. Instead of goat was cow and in Russian fairy tail the youngest was adopted with the cow. But it is really similar to this. I don’t remember many, but I remember how three eye daughter also feel asleep, how cow was lkilled and how the youngest one planted cow bones. But the main diffense was that cow said “go in my ear and exit in different ear” and that how cow help
I think it’s kinda interesting about this two fairy tails
The music went hard this episode.
I think what I read was a translation after the Grimm brothers fairy tales
The luluby she sang was for both her and the sister she was singing to so when she sang for the one eyed sister she fell asleep, but when she sang to the three eyed sister only two of her eyes feel asleep because she was singing two eyes go two sleep along side to the verse three eyes go to sleep. So that is why the three eyed sister could keep her third eye open.

3) marry a prince/king

Or maybe the moral is that jealousy will tear a family apart; that we should celebrate each other's differences, and comfort one another over insecurities. Lest we destroy our family.
Exactly
That actually make a more beautiful explanation to this story
Family is more beautiful then jealousy
Or that goats are really cool (jk)
@Unproductive Incorporated Nice proile pic. What is it?
Beautiful.
So basically, be born beautiful to have a happy ending.
I asume it is a metaphora for inner beauty. In all the tails characters with ugly inner world would pictured ugly on appirience. And characters with kind heart are beautiful and also get help from spirits, animals and fairies. As if the world itself helping the kind hearted people and help them out, serving the justice on the way. At the end it is a fairytale, it speaks with symbols and mataphoras.
Bingo
Nah you don’t need to be born beautiful, just need to have 2 eyes

@@bji2664 yes you are right
In the version I performed (from The 12 Huntsmen, I was the two-eyed girl in the story. She was named Beatrice.) Beatrice was disliked because one-eyed girls were thought to be beautiful, and three-eyed girls were thought to be wise. The two-eyed daughter was seen as plain and boring.
That dude that writing your version must has cyclop fetish...
Even in the Grimm version, two eyes is the middle child and abused for not being as extraordinary as her older and younger sisters
I think the mother wasnt a human after all and she wanted to have monster children. Two Eyed was too much humanous
That's the version I remember.
Why the hate for normalcy? My guess is the abnormal eyes were a symbolism of the other sisters craziness & out of the ordinary maybe or just unattractive because it's not healthy having missing body parts or extra ones.

Maybe he knew what they were like on the inside.
In the Grimm's version they were also wicked witches with sin in their viens. So it wasn't just because they were ugly
Only in the beginning. Their jealousy is what ultimately drove them.
In Russian version, a family had a daughter and the mother turned into a caw but they didn't know it was her. She turned into a cow becuase her daughter dropped something inside one big hole (if I remember correctly) and he re-married and the woman from her first marrige had 3 daughters (one with 1 eye with 2 eyes and with 3 eyes) and then the father left to work or something and the bullied her. Then she spend time with cow and she halped her like in this story and when her step-sisters came to spy on her she would sing. But for 3 eyed one she sang but she forgot she had 3 eyes so she didn't sing for all 3 eyes but just for 2 so she saw happened, they killed the cow blablabla same like here
Yes, but the whole point of the story is a cautionary tale against jealousy. Were the two sisters kinder they might have yet found someone.
I dunno about you but a three eyed wife sounds lit
@Light Yagami Despite the weirdness of their appearance, the one-eyed and three-eyed sisters look much prettier than the mother. I never understood why she just didn't eat for those 2 days and then run away with the goat when they wanted to kill it.
Dumb for The Plot
Cuz it's a fairy tale, plot holes are kinda part of the game.
Things I don't get:
Why the 1-eyed and 3-eyed sisters couldn't attract anyone if the issue wasn't that they were mean (and one doesn't know that they were mean before the entire "no one wants to marry them" issue). The odd eyes were still symmetrical, and one would think personality would count.
Why the 3-eyed sister didn't just hide her third eye like she did when she was with her 2-eyed sister in the field, if the third eye was the issue.
Why the mother didn't just marry off the 2-eyed sister first. If the dude wants her, he wants her. Also, one down, and you don't have the eye competition going on.
Why the 2-eyed sister didn't try not eating on the days when she was accompanied by her sisters. I mean, it sucks, but not as badly as losing the goat.
Why the 2-eyed sister didn't run away with the goat.
Why the 2-eyed sister agreed with hiding under the bed.
Why the dude didn't ask about the 2-eyed sister, but instead demanded whomever could get him a golden apple. He had seen her before, and supposedly loved her rather than golden apples.
Pinkeed even with a magic goat that brings food, being a woman alone with no roof above her head would be a dangerous thing in the time that the story was written.
Phalidamyle
In the Brothers Grimm's version, the tree of golden apples didn't stay at Two-Eyed's mother's and sisters' home; it accompanied the girl, appearing in the garden of her husband's castle the day after. What is good, for they really didn't deserve to have it.
I think it stayed at the mothers and sisters house to torment them. They so badly want an apple but can never get it. I think it’s supposed to taunt them.
Jennie Nguyen This makes sense! Good point. :D
In one of the other Cinderella versions. Cinderella had to ask her goat lay me a table to get food. So I was kinda surprised that the youngest had to say the same thing
acla9000 none of them Deserve this treatment - it’s a story about the prettiest girl being rewarded without meriting reward and her sisters who no one would marry because they weren’t hot
Twilight Gardens presentations but the sisters and the mom were terrible to her because the man loved her and it wasn’t her fault, they didn’t feed her and they killed her goat. She did deserve a happy ending.

I'm a little sad that they made it seem that the sisters were turned away because they looked hideous. In one of the stories I've read, they showed cruelty towards the youngest which made the man dislike them when he came to visit. The ending was, personally, better as well. I liked the fact that the sisters got together and the youngest forgave them and that One-eye and three-eye found people who loved them.
I would imagine he did not choose them for similar reasons here at least later on in the story.
Why is it in fairytales that the youngest sibling is always the nicest and the older sister sibling is always the evil one?
I wish there’s a fairytale where it’s the other way around. Or at least bring an acknowledgment to the middle sibling.
Know this is late but you'd really like Howl's moving castle the novel it actually talks about that exact trope.
I think it’s symbolic. The youngest child represents the greatest change. It usually is resisted, sometimes is difficult, but once that great change happens everyone (who can be) is better. The elder siblings represent potential change that is too similar to their parents (the parents are usually the ones with the problem, so a new solution is needed).
Underdog sympathy according to one theory.
Takeyia Twitty I was just about to suggest that! Such a fantastic novel, as well.
Leeroy Jenkins it’s interesting though because historically the oldest was more likely to die at the ends of their younger siblings, especially princes and nobles who were set to inherit power and wealth.
Man, gotta say though, I kinda felt bad for the two sisters. After all, they never asked to be born that way. They never earned their appearance through wicked deeds. They didn’t do anything to deserve their lot in life. So I feel it’s kinda sad that they have little to no chance of finding love.
I would have felt more sorry for them if they hadn’t killed the goat though. That’s pretty sadistic to kill and eat your own sister’s pet and laugh about it.
Not to mention it was a magic goat, so that makes it even worse.
8
These were my thoughts as well. It's a more modern, sympathetic perspective because we have learned through current stories that people are not usually what they seem, and people shouldn't be judged purely on their looks. We also know that being ridiculed and othered your whole life can make you bitter, which makes the sisters seem really sympathetic, contrary to the story trying to have the listener strictly on the side of the youngest.
Fairytales unfortunately had this shortcoming, being that in order to have colorful villains, they were often given deformities where the 'outside matched the inside', when in reality, evil people can too be quite beautiful.
In all honesty, though I can see where this story is coming from, basically saying that being jealous and cruel will cause you only harm, but these simple types of aesops morals are difficult to justify when we know that such a black and white outlook often does more harm than good. Everyone in this story ends up coming off as petty and cold. The youngest is born beautiful, is blessed by magic and wisdom (old man giving her the info to make the magic tree, magic goat giving her food for nothing in exchange), and beloved by the first man to see her. She never had to lift a finger for things to go well for her, except not be evil, I guess.
0/10 lol
They were not exactly great characters inside either. The mother is worst of all though since she is neglecting her own daughter choosing her oen desire over her daughter's good.
No one asks for deformations. It's a lottery.
That is very true but they chose to let their jealousy get the best of them and harm their sister just because she was favored over them by one guy. So I don't feel that sad for them. Regardless of whether they had two eyes or not, it's more of a problem of jealousy rather than a 'they didn't ask to be born that way' situation. There are many good people who aren't physically desirable by the common standards but the sisters chose to let the outside reflect the inside.
Something that also should be considered is the fact that the mom didn't try to cheer the 2 daughters on and supported their jealousy.
7:56 the way he pulled her up was so cute :D
Bless the souls who did this
It’s like someone reading me bedtime stories but when I’m 26 (no ones read me anything before I come from a broken/abusive home) so this is very therapeutic to me before I fall asleep ♥️
hello! I just want to say I had a similar childhood, except I've grown up on these stories watching them on VHS, and I also learned to read very early (my sister taght me) to read tales for myself. My mom tried a few times to read bedtime stories but 10/9 times she fell asleep and I didn't get the end of the story. Anyway I also find these stories soothing, and I only saw disney princess movies when I was 20-22. 1 Eyed: "Yes, let us kill it quickly, so that our 2 eyed sister will begin asking us for food once more, and we will have no reason to send her away each day. That will be better."

Everything to make her unhappy. 🤨

Why didn't the mother hide their eyes? Given the 3 eyes daughter a bandana to cover the 3rd, or given an eye patch on the one eyes daughter to make it look like she had 2 eyes?
To literal an interpetation. Folk lore tends to focus on symbolism. The number of eyes each sister had could represent their knowledge and experience of the world. Whence the older sister with a third eye could outwit the younger sister with two eyes.
Purely a guess though.
Because it’s a fairy tale
And because lying is immoral. Think the husband would eventually find out and then what.
Tbh the one eyed girl is very pretty to me
Ikr? I thought the one eyed daughter could cover one side of her face with her hair, so no one could tell she didn't have the other eye. As for the three eyed sister, she could just use a bandana like you said.

and the fact the middle had one in the middle of her head didn't scare you? to be fair though I liked the way she looked
?
It's rude tho if someone actually have 3 eyes.
She must secretly be Garnet
But the two eyed sisters dark scleras didnt disturb you? That crap freaked me out.
Finally, I've always wanted to watch these gorgeously animated tales in English and I finally got my wish!
You took the words right out of my mouth!
1:20 the face of the guy😂😂😂😂 I cannot!
"YOU GIVE ME APPLE SO I LOVE YOU"
fairy tales logic
Is that a bible reference?
6:53, Pick the Apples yourself dude!
me when people say hi to me ;_; jk
A man after my own heart
I'm from India, still it brings back so many childhood memories from 90s. Going to the old book shops with Father @College Street, Kolkata & taking home loads of used books of European, Russian folk tales (those carrying stories and illustrations exactly like this). Loving it.

The goat “why are you so sad my dear” the sister: *casually talks with the goat as if goats actually talk *
Moral of the story: if your blonde and your the youngest, your the good guy in these folktales.
@David Santamaria cuz in most of the hungarian folktales animations the "nice and good" characters have blonde hair and if they have siblings they are the often the youngest
(sry for my bad english)
@@kiwu8912 if you dont like it dont watch it ---who is forcing you??? Go back to Disney diversity princesses
@@ferencnehuszar684 its not that i dont like it, its just a coincidene i noticed
@@kiwu8912 I have read lots of folk tales, hair colour is rarely mentioned in them. Ask the animators why they used so many blondes . Nothing to do with the original story . As for the 3 eyed girl 3 is a magical number in folk tales . everything is symbolism in folk tales ! 1 3 7 etc . Gold silver, bronze, diamond hair or other objects also ----NOBLE GEMs or METALS
@@ferencnehuszar684 Ok
Are they sure that the youngest is the biological daughter. Because to me its like shes the adopted one also from my experience the youngest one is the most loved then next is the eldest then last is the middle
I would also like to add, if they can hide the eldest sisters third eye why not do it when looking for suitors she can just hide her third eye forever no one would know. Unless its hereditary then her children might get it then everyone would know and she would be killed or something
Right?
You have point, but you overthinking a bit. In the hungarian folk tales usually the youngest child is the one who don't loved. And usually they are the smartes or the one who save his/her siblings, family. Its just a theme in it
@@queensy_pearl6695 Writers must be the youngest. 😂
7:40 this man ain’t got no business bein that thicc
0:57.thats creepy ...lol😂😂
5:19 that's an accurate face for that situation
It's really strange when the one with two has the most terrifying eyes. She's ether suffering from eightball eyes or she's possessed.
The young men do too then.
I'm Hungarian, and these tales fill a big part of my childhood! I love these fairytales, makes me so happy, when I saw it on the TV! ❤️
the table is seen as a form of nourishment. or the bringer of nourishment.in the original a wise woman shows the girl how to bring fourth the table and how to put it away. the table could be mental nourishment or maybe she was able to have the goat show her what was edible to eat, or maybe she ate bugs off the goats fleece and was able to maintain a bright attitude given her situation. well that's what i get from the metaphores. when her family kills her goat out of cruelty. the girl cry's and the wise woman reappears and tells her to bury the heart for good luck, which she manages to do. the golden apples, is something greater, something good, something beyond. one eyes is simple they only see one way and follows. three eyes is chaos like moral relativism, nothing makes sense and is clear cut. 2 eyes is duality the ability to cleave good from evil and sort out the gray areas and determine beyond and separate those greys into good and bad. the wise woman and the goat showed her good things and her family showed her what she know was hurt and sadness and what bad was. in the end when the knight showed up looking for something good and beyond and nourishment only the two eyed girl was able to give the knight what he was searching for. later in the story when the girl is happy n married in a castle two begging old woman come to her door begging for help and mercy she realizes these are her sisters and shows them mercy and kindness which in the end they repent of all the horrible things they ever did to her and then they are able so see the gift of kindness and love.
I like this better
I like this interpretation better, that the one eyed and three eyed daughters just had fucked up views of right and wrong, instead of just being unlucky enough to be born with deformities.

Say what you want about which is best girl amongst one eyed, two eyed, three eyed, but dang the dude is hella *thicc*
