Thank you Andrew for forging my beautiful knife I've been waiting to see the video sorry I have not emailed you in a while been busy building my latest leather bag will show you when I've finished.
Im a blacksmith as well only 13 but just starting only made five items so far and your videos really inspire me to keep going and that one day i may be as good a smith as you are. love your work keep it up👍😁
That was a great job on that blade. A real pleasure to watch your work and a fantastic outcome. It's always a pleasure to watch a bladesmith who actually forges from scratch start to finish instead of just cutting something out with grinder. Thanks for sticking to traditional methods.
Nice blade, great skills, If I could critique one thing it would be the way you swing the hammer. You'll save your elbow and wrist if you use more shoulder.
This is great... I've heard some smiths say O1 is a bitch to forge...and this video proved it! Awesome job though man, the end result is a fantastic blade.
I wanted to see the through tang inlay. I mean it doesn't seem particularly intricate, buuut I'd love to see it done by you given the detail oriented work you do. Either way beautiful work as always keep up the good work. Catcha
Thanks! And I may do a video in the future on a through tang blade. Just finished one recently and highly regret not filming it as it was a Bowie larger then this blade with a stag Handel. Anyway, Thanks for watching!
you have a large wheel on the grinder. Have you ever thought of grinding with the blade facing like IO instead of -o ... if you under stand what that means. more like walter does, or like what you do when buffing.
Hey Michael, yes. 1095 and 52100 can crack very easily when quenched over there proper temp, and can get bad stress fractures if you hit them too cold. I reccomend for you, 5160, o1, and 1084 for a good place to start. Do some googling to read further on each type of steel, as there all different when it comes to quenching and all that.
alec kohl it is a good oil for quenching most steels including O1 and 5160(spring steel) but I would recomend you to use vegetable oil because mineral oil releases more toxic fumes.
No it isn't visible thought he scale. I cleaned the top of the spine and thats how I seen the color. If you wire brush it before tempering you can see the colors on the forged flats as well. As long as thers no scale In the way.
If i only have a metal file how do you file the knife down when its heat treated if the file just skidds off? You used a belt sander but i dont have one. Does anyone know a good way?
You should get the shape of the blade before you heat treat it. Unless you mean the part after he hardens it, at that point he only sanded the scale off so he could see the color of the steel. You don't necessarily need to do this part unless you're using a torch like he did.
Only purpose makes sharpening a bit easier there. Honestly I don't like them anymore they get in the way too much when cutting. Anyway thanks for watching!
Very nice! I love the combination of the hammered and the polished blade finish
I yet don't see the full video and a think it will be a beautiful knife.
You are the best!
Sorry for my english

Honestly looks a lot like a kukri, which by itself is a really nasty chopper.
Nice work.
top amigo que faca perfeita!
been waitin for this . love the knife
Thanks!
Please wear a mask when using the grinder, it might be fun now but you could really regret it later in life
Looks like no hearing protection too. The anvil was ringing like crazy.
Muy hermoso 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
nicely done.
very nice!
Sweet knife
you have a large wheel on the grinder. Have you ever thought of grinding with the blade facing like IO instead of -o ... if you under stand what that means. more like walter does, or like what you do when buffing.
I like this knife, are there any types of steel you would recommend avoiding as a beginner? tricky heat treats and temp ranges and so on?
Hey Michael, yes. 1095 and 52100 can crack very easily when quenched over there proper temp, and can get bad stress fractures if you hit them too cold. I reccomend for you, 5160, o1, and 1084 for a good place to start. Do some googling to read further on each type of steel, as there all different when it comes to quenching and all that.
much appreciated.
U gotta go on forged in fire the show
Peice of art
I would love to maybe chat about a blAde custom made for myself.
Beautiful
sublime!!!
Isn't the steel hot where you were holding it with your bare hands?
very cool
my neigbours are going to be so happy
Nice forging
Thanks!
Wao nice
Olá boa tarde! muito linda bela faca Bladesmithing quanto é o valor ?
No annealing after forging?
What oil do you use for quenching o1? I use mineral oil for leaf spring steel I salvage but i don’t think its a good oil for o1 tool steel
alec kohl it is a good oil for quenching most steels including O1 and 5160(spring steel) but I would recomend you to use vegetable oil because mineral oil releases more toxic fumes.
I do like it, can you sell the same one into Vietnam?
And how much for one??!
Love it
How much do you charge for something like that? And can you ship to the USA?
Love the knife but you should try and do something about the ring in your anvil
Thanks! And yes. I wear ear protection and I guess I could get some magnets.
When you tempered the knife, how were you able to tell the spine went to a blue oxide color? Is it visible on the forge scale?
No it isn't visible thought he scale. I cleaned the top of the spine and thats how I seen the color. If you wire brush it before tempering you can see the colors on the forged flats as well. As long as thers no scale In the way.
Ah, thank you kindly.
This guy: uses a hammer while the steel is hot to get the bevels down before grinding
Me who just has a fireplace and a file: ._.
I would call that gorgeous.
Thanks man!
Linda Faca Meu Parabém.
Amazing
Awesome , do you sell knife s?
Great job!! : )
Skills!
Bravo !
What is the purpose of the 'Spanish knot'?
Very nice work. Really pretty knife!
Only purpose makes sharpening a bit easier there. Honestly I don't like them anymore they get in the way too much when cutting. Anyway thanks for watching!
