Be careful guys if you scrape the cup to get everything out you can develop fish eyes and sticky spots because a lot of times when stirring people don’t scrape the sides of the cup and unmixed resin stays there
Dude, this was the most helpful video! I love your vibe, your music choice, your art is bomb! But mostly for me, your help and ability to explain so clearly what we needed to know. This was so helpful. Thanks
At last, a clear concise video with easy to follow instructions, thank you so much. I am a new subscriber to your channel as I enjoyed the video so much and now feel ready to have a go at this.
Painting looks great! After watching this, I am ready to try the resin on a small acrylic painting to test myself, before I move on to the bigger ones. Thank you for sharing these tips!!
Nice🔥🔥 I have to use digital scales when preparing as I have never used a 1:1 ratio resin, awesome. I'm just about to do a pour on a 100cm² canvas I also place my resin bottles in a bucket of warm water before mixing as I find it thins up the viscosity and helps u get those last few drips out 🥳 great video my guy 💪🏼🔥
Just came across your channel. Video was great. Thanks for repping brothers as a content creator creating arts content. You're a major inspiration. Keep them coming bro. You've got a new subscriber.
Love this step by step. I have tried several resin pours and I always have areas that end up not covered and end up doing it again. I know I mix enough but was scared of using a tool to help spread it. Thank you.
I was looking for the perfect video that shows how to apply resin over a canvas painting and I just found it! I trying this on one of paintings for the first time. This video is extremely helpful. Wish me luck!
looking great. one friendly tip...you should use plastic sticks when working with this type of product as the chemicals may have a reaction with the porous wood and cause some cloudiness...won't happen all the time so others brag about never having that problem...but after putting your emotions out on the canvas...is that a chance you are willing to take?
Great job. Most art finishing services would charge at least $150 for a job like this (large painting) and Dooga probably only used around $10 worth of epoxy. Huge money to be saved doing this yourself!. Definately make sure you are keeping your work area nice and warm while curing.
Thanks for showing this. I’ve been curious about using resin on larger canvases. What size is this painting, and have you had any issue with the resin cracking?
How do you know the amount of resin to mix up for the size of canvas you will be using to have enouph and none left over for waist? I have never done this before but have been so excited to try but want to get it right so to not have any waist.
I tries this last night on one of my best pieces. All the resin stayed in the middle. I kept pushing it to the edges and covering all of it. It didn't. I put cardboard on the back to support the art. I'll go back over it again today and see if I can get it fully covered
The canvas might have been too loose. In the future you can tighten your canvas by spraying the back with a mist of water and taking a heat gun to it. It will tighten up the canvas.
Yes, you definitely can. Just make sure the painting cures for at least 2 weeks prior to application. I never varnish or primer first and it works great!!
Be careful of scraping everything out at the end. If you don't scrape the sides and bottom good enough when mixing, then you will scrape unmixed resin onto your piece and it will leave a tacky place that never dries. Its best just to pour it all out without scraping the sides
Awesome tutorial! Tried it for the first time but had some spot that the resin wouldn’t stay, like it was repelled by the acrylic paint. Any suggestions?
There are formulas online to determine how much you need. I don't know it off the top of my head but look up "how much resin I need" and it will come up! This painting was 36x36 and I used about 32 ounces total. So 16 ounces of hardener and 16 ounces of resin.
I learnt the hard way to put your gloves on before you start. Damn getting that resin off my hands was hard found the best way to get it off. Washing powder takes a lot of rubbing but the resin comes off. Once it is removed a good hand moisturizer. Learn from my stuff up, make sure you put your gloves on first.
thank you for this video, I think the medium is something I haven't try .. the one I haven mate get from liquitex, do you thinks ok ? or I should get the brilliant one?
The matte gel is a different medium and will get really different results. If you want it to shine like this you would have to use resin. Thanks for watching!
Have you ever had any issue with the resin causing the canvas to dip in on a larger painting? I've been advised not to use resin on large format but this gives me hope that I can.
How do you keep all the little pieces of dirt/ hairs out of the resin after you pour on your piece? I spent over 25 minutes picking stuff out, and torching to get air bubbles out. Then covered it, came back checking it out and since it was set I found more crap in it and it was to late to remove it.
Lol yeah that definitely happens. I try to not make a lot of movements once I pour. You have to be really careful and take your time. Definitely have a clean room as well. Things happen though, sometimes stuff will get on it. You can always sand it out and repour.
Was thinking about buying an old kitchen mixer at a garage sale and dedicating it to these types of mixing jobs where it takes a long time and is so critical to success. Anyone think that would work?
This canvas was pretty tight and did not dip. If your canvas seems to be a little loose I would reinforce the back with some stiff cardboard first! Thanks for watching!
I didn't seal this one, but every gold leaf, really imitation gold leaf acts differently, so I would test it first. But more than likely you should be good to go without sealing!
the resin won’t harden so it will just stay liquid and sticky and it can ruin the painting you are putting it on top. that’s the reason it’s really important to put an equal amount of both hardner and resin, because if you don’t the resin can stay sticky and never dry. hope this helps:)
I love not gagging on fumes. Creating, for me, is one place I go to get away from the world that requires it. I am faithful with my mask, and I have been since February, but I need one place in the world. I use Stone Coat Artist. Amazing reviews, and they have a lot of tutorials on their products here, on RUclips.

@@DOOGAART You're welcome
Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous!! do you now how much Resin to use say on a large 48x48 canvas?
Thank you! I'm not exactly sure. I would try to find a guide that shows the amount of resin needed per square inch.
Wow superb painting ❤️😚😚😚

1st thing your gloves 2nd thing its wipe the surface if u are pouring the resine .. in case if its acrylic paitings with silicone or oil paintings
Question do you use a face masks when you resin. I heard it really bad to inhale resin.
Beautiful outcome ! I always heard that it was a 2:1 ratio but 1:1 seems to work too.
Thanks! It depends on which brand you use, they may be different!

There are resin calculators online... you set the size of your work and it tells you how much you need to cover it.

Yes, you definitely can. Just make sure the painting cures for at least 2 weeks prior to application. I never varnish or primer first and it works great!!

Awesome tutorial! Tried it for the first time but had some spot that the resin wouldn’t stay, like it was repelled by the acrylic paint. Any suggestions?
if you use silicone oil that will happen
how did you properly measure the resin besides using two equal parts?
I always get these holes that’s unfilled because the canvas caves in. Any advice for that
Great work.Is it me or did anyone else notice the strange like soap suds pouring off the canvas at 10.22 or was it just the light:))))
Thank you! And that is just my light reflecting off of it. Lol I had 2 lights over it
@@DOOGAART Oh ok LOL.:)))
Also stir slowly cause stirring fast causes bubbles
How did you determine how much to mix to cover your painting?

lol I've been there before too
Can you use a blow dryer
I wanna know was that a stretched cloth canvas or a wooden plate?
It was a stretched canvas!
Did you varnish the painting first before putting the resin on?
Nope, I put the resin on after painting!

If it's a larger canvas, put some cardboard or a flat harder surface underneath to keep it more leveled! But if the canvas is taut you should be fine.
Awesome. Question... Since you have to stir for 5 minutes can you put it in a mixer on low?
Hi! Yes, you can do that as well!
I believe a mixer works by whipping in air...You DO NOT want to add air bubbles.
Is resin good on cloth canvas or just wooden canvas?
Could I use a hair dryer instead of that machine thing?
I'm sure it would work. Just move slower and see if the bubbles are popping.
@@DOOGAART ❤️ thanks for the reply.
Hello, does it feels like plastic once it’s dry?
Will a messed-up rough acrylic painting (polyurethaned surface) become smooth & clear with resin?
It should! It wouldn't hurt to try!
Hi
Can we use a roller to apply epoxy on a large canvas?
How do you keep all the little pieces of dirt/ hairs out of the resin after you pour on your piece? I spent over 25 minutes picking stuff out, and torching to get air bubbles out. Then covered it, came back checking it out and since it was set I found more crap in it and it was to late to remove it.

What was your mixing amount and the size of the painting?
On a painting that size did you find that the canvas dipped a bit in the center? Did the resin accumulate more in the center than on the edges?
This canvas was pretty tight and did not dip. If your canvas seems to be a little loose I would reinforce the back with some stiff cardboard first! Thanks for watching!
@@DOOGAART Thanks. I'll probably do that as my 16x20 canvases definitely dip in the middle when lightly pushed.
Thank you! You stressed me out stepping in the resin though 😵
Do you seal your gold leaf before you pour the resin?
I didn't seal this one, but every gold leaf, really imitation gold leaf acts differently, so I would test it first. But more than likely you should be good to go without sealing!
Hi can i porr it outside?
You could but there is a higher chance that dust or debris could get on it
awsm..... can i use resin on oil. portrait
Thanks! And I never used it on oil before so I'm not sure. I believe you can, but I would definitely research first.
DOOGA ART thaks for ur kindnsss.
Would a hair dryer work the same as a heat torch or whatever it’s called?
Same. I m asking
can I use a hair dryer to work as the same as heat torch ?
can you use a blowdryer or a lighter?
You could use a blow dryer. It would take longer.
Is resin lien atop coat for painting?
Resin is used for a top coat, but its not its only purpose. People use it for floors, countertops, tables, etc. It has so many uses.
Thank u
Thanks for watching!
Are all resins the same? I want to resin my painting for the first time too and don’t want to spend a ton of money
Most are similar but not all are the same. Some have quicker drying times and others get hard faster. I would avoid the super cheap stuff.
DOOGA ART thank you!
I done it but after some time it gets patchy on some place in the canvas it's not even
You would need to add a second layer. Make sure you have it leveled.
Thanks ☺️👍
If i just use resin, what will happen?

Is this painting for sale?
It already sold 😔 but check out my Instagram to keep up with my latest paintings! @dooga_art
Beautiful work!, Dude wear a mask as the epoxy is not good for you lungs!
There are several resins that are non-toxic with no fumes or VOC's. I use Magic Resin and it's a wonderful product.
