I understand the method for cleaning /prepping canvas for either finish, but my concern is with ceramic tile coasters where a bit of silicone was used. I’ve tried gently wiping with alcohol but it began to smear the paint. I can’t use any water or it will wipe the paint completely off the tile😩. I don’t know what to do

Thank you Olga, no one has ever mentioned anything about cleaning the canvases before applying varnishes. I'm shocked I didn't have a problem applying varnish because I didn't clean my canvases first. Now I know what to do.
Very cool great tips and tricks. Silicone can be hard to clean off. What I've found that works best is taking a paper towel. Use it to Soak up any silicone oil on your canvas. Then cover the entire canvas with 2 or 3 coats of mod podge. Then after the mod podge is dry you can resin without difficulty and no fish eyes will appear 😊😊😊
@@purplepanterachick Nope, the mod podge doesn't interact with the resin at all. Its almost like a sealer. I've never had any problems adding resin right on top of the dry mod podge.
@@OlgaSoby I like to use bounty paper towels. To me they're very absorbent. My friend @JOTZdesigns swears by the blue shop paper towels from home depot. She actually uses silicone oil in her resin pours for cells. Then the next day she will wipe the oil off the surface of the resin pour with a blue shop paper towel. Clean it well with a new blue shop towel and 91% isopropyl alcohol then she will do a clear top coat. She doesn't have problems with pits or fish eyes when she does it that way. 😊

Thank you, so much. I've got a few pieces with silicone that I want to resin (painting on ceramic tiles and one on MDF board). So, this is very helpful and going to be saved into a playlist. I'm going to need to wait until later in the spring before I start resining pieces as it's winter up here in Atlantic Canada, so rather cold (currently feeling like -12C) - too cold to have windows open for air flow.
I’ve used alcohol in the past and wet wipes. I’m glad to have found this video because yes my paintings are sticky after cleaning with alcohol. Thanks!!!
🙏🏼😘Thank you so so much for sharing your techniques, Olga. It really helps a lot❣️ I don’t use silicone at all but I use Floetrol (Owatrol Floetrol bc I live in Germany) and I guess there’s also a type of oil in it. When I mix my paints and let them sit over night there are some „oily“ spots in the surface. I had a lot if these „fish-eyes“ when I coated my paintings with resin so I think my cleaning methods were pretty bad.🤦🏼♀️😂 I tried several methods and ended up buying a bottle of 100% Isopropylalcohol (follow the safety instructions!) and it works great for me. I must say that I didn’t use bigger canvases than 30 x 30 cm/40 x 20 cm for now so it’s not that big surface I have to clean and I need a really small amount of alcohol. (And as I said, I don’t use silicone, just Floetrol.) Thank you for your inspiration, for teaching your knowledge and sharing your passion with us❣️ As soon as I watch a video of you I immediately want to grab a canvas and paint. You’re an absolutely sweet person and to be able to watch you paint is a real pleasure.💖 Have a wonderful weekend.☺️
I really appreciated this video in my panic. I use my pours as background for my drawings. I grabbed an old pour the other day and when I was doing the negative space, FAIL! The paint started pilling up. It was looking so good too. SMH I'm going to try cleaning it now and hope I don't loose all my line work. The acrylic pens seem to be pretty color fast so I'll cross my fingers. . . Probably my legs and eyes too just for luck. Thanks for talking me off the ledge girl. Art is suppose to be fun and that day just wasn't.
My biggest problem is being patient enough to wait a few weeks before cleaning and varnishing. I sometimes end up re-hydrating some of the paint and smear it enough to ruin the piece. Using an isolation coat will definitely help me in the future. I'll use these tips to hopefully fix some finished canvases that have pitting in the varnish as well. Thanks for making this video!
You are most welcome, and I understand that waiting can be the hardest part, but this is actually very important. When the paint is dry to touch within the first few days, there is still some moisture inside. And if you lock it there by varnishing too soon, it can lead to whole kind of different problems in the future
Thank you. I really learned so much from you in this video. I appreciate you taking the time to explain all of this to us. The info in this video will be quite helpful to me in my future works.
Always very much enjoy your videos. I looked up a paint to canvas ratio calculator and was surprised that it was made by you as well. I've only made a handful of paintings and can see the improvement from one to the next, much thanks to you for sharing your knowledge :)

Thank you so much for the information. Very easy to learn from you.
I’ve used alcohol in the past and wet wipes. I’m glad to have found this video because yes my paintings are sticky after cleaning with alcohol. Thanks!!!
You are most welcome!
Great educational video! Thank you so much Olga!
🙏🏼😘Thank you so so much for sharing your techniques, Olga. It really helps a lot❣️
I don’t use silicone at all but I use Floetrol (Owatrol Floetrol bc I live in Germany) and I guess there’s also a type of oil in it.
(And as I said, I don’t use silicone, just Floetrol.)
Thank you for your inspiration, for teaching your knowledge and sharing your passion with us❣️ As soon as I watch a video of you I immediately want to grab a canvas and paint. You’re an absolutely sweet person and to be able to watch you paint is a real pleasure.💖 Have a wonderful weekend.☺️
Thank you so much, Sandy 💗 and thank you for sharing your method!
Thank you so much for posting this!! Very informative and helpful!!!!
Thanks olga. Extremely helpful.
I really appreciated this video in my panic. I use my pours as background for my drawings. I grabbed an old pour the other day and when I was doing the negative space, FAIL! The paint started pilling up.
It was looking so good too. SMH
I'm going to try cleaning it now and hope I don't loose all my line work.

Wow, thank you! I actually had no idea that you have to clean the silicone off lol. I haven't actually started pouring yet. Just recently became obsessed with it! 😄 I am making a list of supplies. Going to keep watching and learning from you 😀
Honestly, I'm glad you learned it before you tried to apply finish over silicone :) Also, if you are new to this, I highly recommend checking out m website - I share a lot here smartartmaterials.com/acrylic-paint-pouring-supplies/
