2:23pm - Assistant Curator of Animal Training at SeaWorld San Diego, Robbin Sheets plays with Orkid, right after the One Ocean 2pm show, this is why i dont leave right away right after One Ocean as the trainers do more stuff/bond with the whales. @2:44 looking directly at Orkid.
Orkid is beautiful. She has unique eyepatches that give her a melancholic look. Orkid's mother was from Iceland and her father was from Canada. She is a hybrid (50% Icelandic and 50% Northern Resident). Her parents would have never met or mated with one another in the wild. Orkid is also the smartest orca in captivity - her trainers have nicknamed her 'the Rocket Scientist.'
Orkid is the first successful birth at Seaworld San Diego. Her father Orky died shortly after her birth. She was named in his honor - Orky's kid 'Orkid.' Her mother bled out in front of her after an altercation with Corky. She was only 11 months old. Apparently it took weeks for the young calf to recover from the traumatic event. Corky, who lost all seven of her calves, adopted Orkid. Orky and Corky were thought to be closely related, possibly cousins, which makes Corky and Orkid family in every sense of the word. Orkid was also very close to Kasatka and her children. She was best friends with Splash and Sumar. Splash had epilepsy. During epileptic seizures, Orkid would come to his aid and keep him close to the surface so he could breathe. Sadly, both Splash and Sumar passed away.
Orkid has found a new best friend in Nakai. She is the third oldest orca in San Diego, after Corky and Ulises.
It looked like she was trying to give you a good picture, but that guy kept getting in the way, pushing her back in the water. She is so smart! I love the closeup pictures of Orkid's eyes.
I do feel a bit sorry for her, she lost her father, her mother, splash, sumar, and now her adoptive sister kastka

Ok, I see lots of people complaining in the comments about OTHER people complaining. If SeaWorld really is all that great, can I get a source or some type of concrete evidence as to how animals that should be swimming miles a day are better off in captivity?(And yes, I'm aware they can't be released.)
Watch orkid's sad story, the video said "i leap and twirl dying to entertain you" and "all i see is the same concrete wall over and over and over" that was a very sad story

I remember when I first saw orkid when I was in 1st grade I was amazed by the tricks she can do but now that I see her 8 years later she looks like she just wants to die and i wish I can communicate with her and give her words of wisdom but she can only communicate through whistles and sonar

I want to work at seaworld...
So that I can "train" the orcas, but instead, feed them and give them love. I'd tell everybody that I'm training them, but I'm not. Then, when it's time for the show, I'll reveal what's really been going on. I'd get fired, yes, buts it would have been worth it.

Orkid is living a miserable life, her dad died when she was almost born, all her friends died, her mom died, she has to do tricks to get food, she sometimes pulled trainers into the water, she lived the most miserable life a orca could ever have. She is BEING treated bad, if she dose the trick wrong she'll not get any food, I hope a trainer reads this -.-

Orkid was captured from the wild, her parents slowly died and decaded infront of her face, she was forced to breed with her cousin 7 times in a row pretty much killing all of her children, and forced to live in a tiny pool being mocked and screamed at and forced to do tricks or starve. Sound like a great life this little guy is having? I didn't think so either. It hurts them when they slide and scrape across the solid walls. They are social animals that love to travel long distances yet she's being forced to stay in a tiny pit full of water doing the same tricks over and over and over again ever single day just so that she can get a meal being screamed at by thousands of people, and they don't like being on their backs yet are forced to flip over and let trainers ride them like horses. Do anything like this to a human and you're a sociopathic lunatic with no feelings owning slaves for public entertainment. Yet changing the species makes it perfectly acceptable.

2. They aren't starved. They are properly fed every day. These are like treats to let them know they did a good job

What's really unnatural is all the tons of trash and human waste that are dumped in the oceans everyday by ships of all business and distinctions. Many of these whales (and several other species of sea creatures) are made to live in a oceans that have become toxic waste site. I am waiting to the day that PETA decides to join the fight to help put a stop to ocean dumping, instead of always conveniently focusing so much on Seaworld's work--much of which is in the area of wild sea-life conservation.

yes so keeping in orcas in chemically treated pools,eating dead fish and preforming daily is unnatural. They are wild animals not domesticated pets. There are countless other animals that live in Zoos, on reservations, and work in circuses and on farms, etc. This one-sided liberal agenda of attacking SeaWorld and what it stands for is really pathetic!

People who are against seaworld are against zoos and other captive places that resort on animals for money.
