Being a pensioner and not doing matches, just pleasure I bought a 13 metre MTX 1 fantastic pole have had loads of skimmers, bream 8lb tench and many carp over 15 up to 17lbs. Had a result Angling Direct were selling the 8.7 margin at £150 ( over 1/2 price ) because of the launch of the new MTX 2 range. As it is compatible with my pole it covers me for spares plus 3 extra top kits. Result.
Good unbiased revue from an actual long term user. Spot on I manage up to 14-14.5 m and it at its max now using short 3 completely changed over all feel. Best advise always try before you buy ant pole. Well done 👍👍
Pushed my MTX3 beyond its limits at the weekend. Hawford Bridge Penlake. Snaggy peg. Busted a power kit ultra top kit on my second fish. Trying to keep fish away from snags. Broke in 2 places. I used the No3 section from my margin pole to beef it up. Beefing up the No3 section simply transferred the stress to the No4 section and that shattered shortly after. No spare No4 sections available anywhere for a pole that is less than 18 months old? Unless you buy the new V2 versions at ridiculous prices. Matrix are taking the piss. All I can find is a No 4 section from an MTX2 pole. That is all I can get my hands on.
You make a Great point about the un-labeled demo poles. I have read so much in the past about poles that were the bees knees, the best on the market but only to go to my Local pole alley pick them up, and they are droopy heavy wobbly quashy overpriced rubbish leaving you doubting the "Pro's" who endorse them. Just think of those who win the Diawa Masters who aren't associated with Diawa? Soon get rid of it don't they! Enjoying your channel & thanks for your honest opinions.
Had one for nearly two years, only broken two sections ! One was me being heavy handed with a no 3 ! And a a grey lag goose flying straight through a number 6 ! I kid you not ! Out of the undergrowth and straight through it! Complete shattered a foot either side of the brake, it was hanging by a thread !!
Hi mate after looking for a 11 to 13mtr for sometime now and it's a toss between the matrix mtx power 11mtr...or matrix mtx1 power 13mtr. The thing is the 11 mtr comes with 2 top kits all for £420 but the 13mtr Comes with another top kit and extra rigid cup kit for 550. I'm guessing by the time I buy othe top kit and cupping kit it'll be about the same price?? !! ... also is the mxt 1 newer then some that just say mtx?
@@martinhassall7884 by the time you get a top kit and a cupping kit it probably will be about the same as the 13 mtr pack, so I'd buy that one first up, cos then you've got that longer section if and when you need it.
another good revue Scott, ill stick to my MTX 1 POWER. that is a 13 meter pole, i'm not a match fisherman as you know, and i very rarely have the need to go further out, keep them coming mate, 👍
Hi nice video. I know its a few years old but because I'm only a pleasure angler and I don't fish very far out I've just purchased today the 13mtr matrix mtx 1 it feels really nice when I'm generally going be fishing between 6 to 11mtr this should be perfect. Just one question apart from the length and extra top kits is there anything different from any of the mtx 1 ,2,3,or 4?
Interesting you mention Middy, Im in the market for a pole between 1k-1.5k, Middy XP35 is a potential, but spares support is lacking, MTX3 was but the breakage horror stories have put me off, Maver 999 is also an option, as well as the Daiwa G90 or MW5 agghh too much choice, Having had a first generation Middy XT15 for years I know that they were good for the money back then, but interested to hear what you're opinions of the new middys are
I've had a hold of a couple of the Middy poles are they are great and feel a lot better than the price suggests, that been said I've never had any issues or concerns with the MTX3, no soft spots or flat spots in the carbon. I've heard good things about the new preston poles too though lol. It's a minefield to be fair.
I understand that there are issues with Middy. Changing name or ownership, New Poles coming out. I had a XI20 14.5 Meters and have been struggling to get spares and extra tops for about 8 months. Now sold it for £300 and purchased New MTX 2V 14.5 Meter.Including additional Grey top and power top 2 plus 6 packs of Duraslip elastic £990.00 .@@Scottsoutdoorchannel
Thanks for this, I've 301 and love it to 13m and I've been thinking to go upto a 16m and budget is either 501 or mtx3 , think I'm going to go mtx I think but going to go try them at local pole alley, cheers
Best pole on the market for the money. Sold my preston superium 30 for the matrix mtx 3...far far superior in every department.... And even better it hasnt got those silly white top kits.!!!!!
A couple of months ago I'd have agreed with you Scott, but since then I've had two sections and a top kit disintegrate under no real strain. One was cupping in a small cup of loose groundbait! I hardly fish past 11 metres and look after everything very carefully with nose cones and a butt protector. I've never had a section break on any other pole before. Hoping your opinion remains the same in the coming months and you don't have issues, but it's soured my otherwise similar opinion to your. In hindsight I should have gone for the stronger MTX2 for how often I fish longer.
@@Scottsoutdoorchannel Yep. Lost confidence in it now, which is a shame. If I go another year without problems it could just be coincidence they all came at once!
I now what you mean. I am starting to get breakages now that the pole has been used a few times. The carbon is definitely getting weaker after the pole has been used a few times. Mine is still in immaculate condition. To add insult. Spares for these poles are non existent , and it's not as if the poles are very old either. I think it is pretty clear that Matrix know about this. They are well aware of the carbon degrading. They have launched a new V2 range and stopped making spares for the V1 versions.
Hi, Have you still got the MTX3 or have you moved on? I’m looking at a 16m pole but would doubt I’ll ever use it at that many times so was wondering what poles you’d recommend for a budget of £2,500. I’ll even consider going higher but depends on weight and strength. Any thoughts on Maver poles?
Hi, check the Middy range, the MTX3 is a great pole but the Middy handle better and are a slightly better package, I wouldn't touch a Maver pole as they have a bad reputation all round. A visit to a pole alley might be a good idea though so you can try all the poles and see which one is best for you.
@@Scottsoutdoorchannel thanks for the reply. I have been looking at the Daiwa tournament pro and the Middy XK-55. I really like the muddy pole on first impressions and will definitely head to a pole ally to try one out.
Thought I’d send you an update. I decided on the MTX3 because for the price £975 there surely isn’t a better pole on the market. I actually used the rest of my budget to buy a whole Matrix set up.
Just another point. ( I'm on ONE tonight!) For the development of the sport- All fishing rods are relatively light compared to poles yeah? Rather than make inferior, heavy, poor, lower grade carbon alternatives in 8- 12 different versions & price ranges depending on what you could afford at the time, but enough to make your parents think WTF!, & kids to loose interest because they were not able to fish effectively with heavy Sloppy crap poles - If they made it easier for you to buy a 3k pole-( or the best possible thing they could and for the sake of their customers, make) if that was good enough to last you 5 years of your style of fishing then you'd all be only paying £50 or less a month! Guys, I mean I would spend that on bait in a month. And then no-one is at a disadvantage and ability & fishing knowledge & where watercraft would show through. AND, HERES THE KICKER! Should it not suit them then there's a relatively secure way of selling what would be quality tackle on to the next generation. I did say I was on ONE! Good luck with your channel and good to hear what you think about what we all think about. 🤔
Some really really good points there, things do need to change to help youngsters get into fishing and in particular matches should they want to. A more level playing would help and I am working on a few things behind the scenes with that in mind so we'll see what happens
Here is the crux of the matter, now V'2s are out dont buy an mtx3 V1 look around for a second hand mtx 4 V1 which will cost you around the same as a new mtx3. Mtx4 V1 was prolly the best pole out there for the money.

I've only just started pole fishing properly and I think the mtx3 is a good piece of kit at any lenth!!
It is a good pole, very solid and it can be fished at 16m no problem at all.

just got a colmic s31 nuclear sixteen not tried yet but hopeful will be good! also superium x90 thats good but little heavy in hand at 16mtr
