Thanks, Tommy. I did enjoy building it but I’ll tell you, for those who can afford it - it does seem the prices on nice used trailers have tumbled. What a crazy market!
Thanks, SecurityisaMyth - the solar was not cheap but it has been great. I’ve made a few changes over the last two years, but not much. Major change in the last month was going to electric on the water heating & cleaning up the front of the trailer. Check it out : youtube.com/@coachgym
Thanks, James - yes, that is why I asked for the straight axles. I have purchased the Dexter flip kit that would give me 5” more than the 10” I now have. It is also the reason I did the “step up” for the bathroom in the V nose - that allowed the gray water tank to stay level with the structural members of the trailer. I’ve tried to keep it off the ground 🤷🏼♂️.
Great job Mr. Jim. Wish I were younger I'd make an attempt at doing something like this. DOT would probably condemn it first time I took it to the road though. lol You should consider hiring yourself out to do this for others who simply don't have the skills to do it themselves. Again, great job.
Dear Tiny - we have a Habitat For Humanity Restores outlet that I check out - just walk thru and see if anything will fit my needs. They had this high priced rubber flooring by Nora - a German Flooring manufacturer that primarily sells commercial in the US. I guess Home Depot donated it when it sat on their floor too long. It was a large roll and priced at $400.00 - that was too much for me but! 1/2 price sale came along! I have enough for another trailer. It is really nice. My wife said - why don’t you put it on the kitchen counter top - and I did! Then I found some trim - I’m really happy with it. Thanks for asking, Jim
Nice find. I’ve been debating flooring types and have arrived at a one piece floor like this. Then just rugs wherever needed/wanted that can be shook out and discarded and replaced when needed easily.
Thanks, Roy. I’m more a mechanical guy - thankful my wife had input on the finishes. She has good taste in everything but men, and I’m thankful for that too!
Thanks, Laura - it has been a good project & one I’m still enjoying as I make a few improvements. Good thing the children are all grown - this has not been a cheap hobby. I am hoping I’ll be able to spend time with the grandchildren in it - then it will “pay off”!
Thanks, Jack! So many good ideas from other RUclipsrs. I’d do a few things different but we have been pretty happy with the build. Sure thankful I took the extra time with the layers of insulation & the solar panels mounted on the 1 5/8” unistrut helps to keep 90% of the roof shielded from the direct sun with the air gap.
Nice job! Contemplating a project toy hauler conversion myself so collecting ideas. Much of what you've done here has already been my solutions as well; mini split, gray water only, etc. Really like some of your ideas. Particularly your sink setup. Guess I need to start exploring the boating world for additional ideas for small spaces. Thanks for sharing
Michael - thanks, again. Many good ideas on RUclips. Just build what works for you. Because I planned on hauling my motorcycle- things got pushed to the front - without the bike in the back it is a little tongue heavy - I offset it with blocks in crates near the back to counterbalance when I’m not hauling the bike. If I were to do it over I’d put the second 20 gallon tank behind the two axels - the front one is between the two axles. Finding the narrow 8” deep tanks was important. The tanks were cheaper than I thought they would be but by the time I mounted, heated, put level sensors on, & insulated them - they were over budget🤷🏼♂️. Oh, well, I’m happy with the final project and old enough all the kids are out of the house & done with college - and paying there own bills! 👍😆
@@coachgym Yeah, in all likelihood I'll always have a bike with me as that's my motivation for a cargo conversion to begin with. I'm at the early stage of just trying to work out what size trailer I want/need, and the basic layout, shower/toilet, bed, and misc. components. I haven't gotten into the specifics of tank placement, size, and weight distribution yet. But, I definitely WILL keep the weight distribution in mind when I get to the point of actually sitting down and putting pencil to paper and drawing up my final design. And yep. I turn 59 next month, single, daughter is grown and married, no grandkids yet, so it's just me to make happy. 😃 At the moment, I'm planning a simple build for weekends in the mountains. But, I'll likely retire in the next couple of years, so will consider a build that can grow with my needs if they change after retirement (larger solar system for example), but for now my plan is a simple cost effective conversion build. And who knows? Maybe I'll build a simple one now, learn what works, and decide to do another build when/if my needs change... Thanks again!
Thank you, @michaelmitchell9612 - it was a labor of love. My lovely wife & I took two of the grand children on a 1,500 mile excursion to Balmorhea & the Davis Mountains in West Texas - Haulina worked great with the hammocks for the kids. We sure needed that split system AC!
Jim...Your cargo trailer conversion has put the camper manufacturers to shames...If I didn't know it was built DIY...I would have said it was factory built...Your skills are not of planet Earth 🙃 Love it!!! ✨
Good job / I work as a Remodeling Contractor here in Tenn. / am starting my flatbed trailer into a camper trailer project this summer. You did a real good job on yours and thanks for video.
Your plan to use a flatbed trailer will give you more latitude on your build - I think it is a great idea. The only downside is the complexity of build & additional time. You have the potential to have a lot more usable space. We each work with our strengths - I’m not talented as a welder or builder. Enjoy your build 👍🏼.

I was raised in a military family and have lived in many countries- I still have much to learn & see. Thanks again.
Very nicely done. I would probably add another camera to the right side of the V-nose looking down at my turning limits as viewed in the tow vehicle to make sure I didn't damage my tongue mounted stuff when turning or backing.
Good idea! Thanks for taking a look. I’ve made major changes to the front - much less busy as I installed an electric water heater. I’ll try and put up another video to highlight the changes that make the likelihood of damaging anything on the tongue.
Thanks, Tom Olofsson - I made a significant change to the trailer -installed an electric water heater. I was able to change the front of the unit - got rid of a couple of boxes & it looks much better. Hope to publish a new video soon on the changes.
Thanks, gregjonesdfw- yes, I used what I knew would work. The solar industry may have an easier way to mount them but when I’m going down the road 70 mph & the wind is high - I have a great deal of confidence. I appreciate you taking a look.

Mr. Cassidy your Cargo Trailer conversion shows your craftsmanship as well as building a complete 4 season Toy hauler! The using of the semi truck load holders for you bed is a genius idea! The using of the cut out from your window installation is also impressive as the overall solar/electric is outstanding. Using the front of your trailer for waste water is also a good use of space! The gold color is also an excellent choice! Thanks for sharing Mr. Cassidy.
Your build is one of the most efficient I've seen on a trailer build. The tracks on your roof used to mount your solar panels is very well put together most seem insufficient, have you experienced any leaks? I would love to see a vide explaining in detail your process putting together the roof and tongue . I'm in the process of ordering a rock solid trailer. unlike most folks I've designed my setup a bit backwards, I've been using my solar setup for over a year. it is built it in the Milwaukee pack-out rolling tool chest. 2X 100ah lithium, victron multiplus ii 12v, cerbo GX, 500amp smart shunt, battery sense, MPPT and 400watt eco-flow portable folding panel. We've had an outwell 7ATC tent for 3 years and plan on using it alongside the trailer in the summer, we also have a full hot water setup and a joolca tent which is transported and kept in the back of my truck 55 gallon. I do plan on adding 400watt of storage and a camplux on demand hot water heater to the trailer which will be built around the shower and kitchen. With the shower being upfront behind the utility closet dimensions 6ft wide from left of the trailer, 5ft from front. Kitchen is located in back 2ft from ramp door in the form of a 6ft left to right L-shaped Island with sink and bar stools on one side. This leaves us with a space in the center short 7 ft which we planned on placing an Ikea I-shap sofa bed sofa bed. Water tank is $150 gallon 11H X 39W X 81L this will be located under a raised platform between the spread axles which has a space of 84in and make an excellent frame with some hard rubber padding. Our trailer is ordered with a extra vented door in the V nose, and I moved the side RV door one foot towards the back of the trailer and plan on adding a dividing wall 1ft behind the V that will hold solar equipment water heater and mini split. Our trailer is a 8.5X18 spread axle with extra 12inch hight blackout package in silver. I really wanted black but that would be a heat nightmare, I think. All inputs and criticism are very welcome as we are trying to work out most bugs and Kinks before the building processes start.
Thanks, Michael Kaine - I’m thankful you like my build. I’ll say first - it sounds like you have some very good plans for your 8.5 X 18 trailer. I’ve not had any leaks - the unistrut bolted Thru the 1” square tubing with carriage bolts has worked great. In my solar video I have some good info & video on the unistrut rails - check it out: ruclips.net/video/o2OaH1zjd4g/видео.html The Dicor self leveling product is very good - if I were to do it again I would order at least one case - you might end up using two. The Dicor brand butyl tape is something else I’d order by the case. Use it between the unistrut & the roof - it does a great job & it is often used for windows & other penetrations. Getting the solar done before you take delivery of the trailer was a good idea too - yes, I had mine complete before too. I also think you are wise to place the water tank inside the trailer & not hang them below, like I did. You have more space with your trailer and it just works better to have them inside. You also are planning for items to be behind your axels- this too is a good idea as it will counterbalance your tongue weight. It is good you have done a lot of camping - this will help you with the design. I sure like my mini split - and there again - I think you have a good idea venting the V nose and putting the condensing unit, water heater, and solar controls in a little mechanical space. I asked that my side door be scooted back but they did not adjust it much - moving it back - especially on a 18’ trailer will be another good idea! Micheal - like I said at the start - you have some good ideas - I’m sure you will do great & ….you can always change things - my plan changed and I’m much happier with the changes.
Thanks, NK Bobcat! With the air conditioning working off the solar & sunny days - I am now using it as my workshop. I never had AC in my shop - this is great!
Thanks again Daniel. Now that I have done a follow up construction video and am starting to learn the iMovie software I realize how much time all of the really good RUclips creators, like you, have to take a lot of time with the channel. That lifted floor idea in the front really make my build work!
Thanks, Music - Wow, you have made a few comments & I really appreciate your checking out “Haulina”. Yes, the 48v battery does allow for smaller wire gauges connecting to the inverter. This was done at the suggestion of the Bean Brothers (beenebrothers.com/) - they had good prices & helped with advice. They are about an hour away from me in the Ft Worth area.
You were a great help - just went outside to check - a little cloudy but I’m pulling in 18.5 amps & the split system AC is set at 71 degrees - nice and cool in the trailer. The Growatt is working great!
Thanks, Mike. Yes, I have 11 videos on Haulina - hopefully they are informative. Here is one of my early video - I have others with info on bed build, solar, etc ruclips.net/video/0HUZhIz7AMQ/видео.html
Thanks, Chance von Freund - I appreciate your kind comment. We have not had many opportunities to take it out but we are on a trip now & everything is working great. Have not plugged it in for a few days and the battery is at 85%. Using the microwave for cooking has not been a problem.
Thanks, Mo - yes, if I were younger I would do it different but I needed it to lower closer to the floor. There are many good ideas on elevator or lift beds. I purchased the 36” long struts - thinking I would use them but decided to go with the straps. The beauty of building it is you can build it the way that is best for you. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and hopefully subscribing- I’m getting closer to the 1.0k mark.
This is an absolutely beautiful build, and awesome setup, done by a gentleman who is definitely a Craftsman! And your video is extremely well done as well! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks, Danny. Your comments are very kind. It was a labor of love. The whole Covid thing caused me to consider the build I could do at home. Now gas prices have me using it closer to home but I’m finding places closer by that are nice. Trips to the far West will need to wait.
Thanks, HankTheTank - we are starting to actually enjoy it. Our trips are closer to home with the higher gas prices but it is good to visit areas close by.
Thanks, CJL - yes, I have one for sure that will help and a few others that show greater detail - please check them out. And thanks again. youtube.com/@coachgym This on focuses on the bed: ruclips.net/video/brCxXxlBJW0/видео.html Hopefully these will help you.
Beautiful rig. Love your trailer. I'd really like to see video on your solar panel install. I'm in the process of building out my trailer. Much appreciated Pastor Jim.
Great suggestion! Caroline, this is one of the next iMovies I plan to make. the Solar really needs to be done or at least very well planned before anything above the floor. It was the very next thing I worked on after installing the tanks - hopefully you will review that video. The fastening system for the panels, I thought, really needed to fasten through the structural members of the top of the trailer. Using the exceptional Dicor 501LSW-1 self leveling lap sealant after placing the Dicor BT-1834-1 Butyl Seal Tape between all the Unistrut and the roof of the trailer is the key. I'll try to get that done in the next week or two. Thanks again for watching.
That is a really nice build! I would like to see all the videos you have of the construction of it. And exactly how that bed operates. One suggestion if you haven't done it already is to hook up the rear lights you have in the roof to the backup light circuit on the truck. So when you are backing up at night you can see much better. I did it on my pontoon and it works amazingly well.
Thanks, MrHypNomadic - I hope I can enjoy more time in Haulina - and in some areas with cooler temps. I took a lot of time with the many layers of insulation & with the temperature at 106 today - it is a good thing. I’ve not plugged it in yet and the mini split is keeping it at 78 degrees. It has been fun to go out and enjoy it in my back years but I’m ready for some mountains!
Thanks, Terry. One of my daughters is now a Petersen - great name. It will be interesting to see how those panels last with the movement down the road. I’m told they will take some hail - here in Texas they will get it.

Thanks, SecurityisaMyth - the solar was not cheap but it has been great. I’ve made a few changes over the last two years, but not much. Major change in the last month was going to electric on the water heating & cleaning up the front of the trailer. Check it out : youtube.com/@coachgym
I love everything about these trailers except for the ground clearance
Thanks, James - yes, that is why I asked for the straight axles. I have purchased the Dexter flip kit that would give me 5” more than the 10” I now have. It is also the reason I did the “step up” for the bathroom in the V nose - that allowed the gray water tank to stay level with the structural members of the trailer. I’ve tried to keep it off the ground 🤷🏼♂️.
The best one I have ever seen done clean work.
Thank You, Freedom Fighter! Very kind of you to say.
WOW, Love It. Awesome Build!!!!
Thanks so much, youcanthide!
Great job
Thanks, Kellum!
Great job Mr. Jim. Wish I were younger I'd make an attempt at doing something like this. DOT would probably condemn it first time I took it to the road though. lol You should consider hiring yourself out to do this for others who simply don't have the skills to do it themselves. Again, great job.
Thank you for your kind words, James Bass
Good job
Thanks, Bobby!
Like it? I love it! Nice job for sure. I like the spare tire locations. The solar is awesome. Such a clean, clean, clean build.
What did you do to the floor? Is it painted?
Very good job sir
Thanks, Lance !
Outstanding Work and Presentation!
Thanks, Roy. I’m more a mechanical guy - thankful my wife had input on the finishes. She has good taste in everything but men, and I’m thankful for that too!
You have done a great job thank you for sharing
Thanks, Laura - it has been a good project & one I’m still enjoying as I make a few improvements. Good thing the children are all grown - this has not been a cheap hobby. I am hoping I’ll be able to spend time with the grandchildren in it - then it will “pay off”!
well done! very clean and well thought out.
WOW…..nicely done
Thanks, Thomas
Thanks again!
really nice build, that is a awesome wiring in that cabinet. truly a awesome build. thx for sharing it
Thank you, Dirty Harry!
Beautiful job!
Thank you, @michaelmitchell9612 - it was a labor of love. My lovely wife & I took two of the grand children on a 1,500 mile excursion to Balmorhea & the Davis Mountains in West Texas - Haulina worked great with the hammocks for the kids. We sure needed that split system AC!
very nice I want to buy it. lol
Thanks, Big Joe
Jim...Your cargo trailer conversion has put the camper manufacturers to shames...If I didn't know it was built DIY...I would have said it was factory built...Your skills are not of planet Earth 🙃 Love it!!! ✨
Thanks, Nature, you are very kind.
Awesome job. Would love to see the build videos!
Thanks, Brendan. This other video is a good overview of the construction:

Good job / I work as a Remodeling Contractor here in Tenn. / am starting my flatbed trailer into a camper trailer project this summer. You did a real good job on yours and thanks for video.
Your plan to use a flatbed trailer will give you more latitude on your build - I think it is a great idea. The only downside is the complexity of build & additional time. You have the potential to have a lot more usable space. We each work with our strengths - I’m not talented as a welder or builder. Enjoy your build 👍🏼.
Thank you Sir, I am new to the RUclips world - I asked a friend of mine to help me. Wow, you are a tall man, 6’4”. If I were building this for you I would order the 7’6” roof. Your comments are very kind. I will try and fulfill your request to turn on the subtitles - like I said, “I’m still learning” but I want people from around the world to be able to comment. I was raised in a military family and have lived in many countries- I still have much to learn & see. Thanks again.
I like it, good job!
Thanks, Downhill!
Very nice looking good.
Thank you, Debbie
Very nicely done. I would probably add another camera to the right side of the V-nose looking down at my turning limits as viewed in the tow vehicle to make sure I didn't damage my tongue mounted stuff when turning or backing.
Good idea! Thanks for taking a look. I’ve made major changes to the front - much less busy as I installed an electric water heater. I’ll try and put up another video to highlight the changes that make the likelihood of damaging anything on the tongue.
Really nice work.
Thanks, Tom Olofsson - I made a significant change to the trailer -installed an electric water heater. I was able to change the front of the unit - got rid of a couple of boxes & it looks much better. Hope to publish a new video soon on the changes.
@@coachgym I look forward to it.
Thx for sharing.
Thanks for your comment, Dan. It is an interesting format. Thankful the comments have been kind and interested in the project.
That is super clean. Very nice build!
Thanks! It has been a fun build.
That looks great! Well made
Thanks, Peachez your sweet name brings a smile to my face - my lovely wife’s grandma name is Peaches!
@@coachgym thank you!
Well built!
Thanks, YYL - it has been a fun project.
Great job Jim!!
Thanks, @dgc
Nicely done!
Thanks, MSK!
Glad to see the unistrut on roof.
Thanks, gregjonesdfw- yes, I used what I knew would work. The solar industry may have an easier way to mount them but when I’m going down the road 70 mph & the wind is high - I have a great deal of confidence. I appreciate you taking a look.
very nice job
Thanks, Monte
Outstanding Jim! Great use of the V-nose space! Tons of solar as well. I would say perfect. Thank you for sharing!
Thank You, Mur Diesel. FYI I’m an old diesel nut. I’ve had Mercedes diesels for 50 years. I have a 300 TD, 1985 jewel now .
@@coachgym oh hell yeah they will run forever. My cousin upcycled and built out his 16x7 v-nose. I just got a 2007 Starcraft Pine Mountain Roadstar to put on my Ram Cummins. Can't wait to get home and run around. Freedom is a great thing.
Looks good
Thanks, Winston
Cassidy.
Thanks, JC - it was nice to have a project to focus on for the last year. Your words are very kind.
Very nice and clean looking. 👌
Thanks, Todd
In my solar video I have some good info & video on the unistrut rails - check it out:
ruclips.net/video/o2OaH1zjd4g/видео.html
The Dicor self leveling product is very good - if I were to do it again I would order at least one case - you might end up using two.
Nice job.
Thank you, Stupid Plumbing!
Really great work.
Thanks, Pilot reel! I am ready to enjoy it!
Amazing work. To own something like this would be my dream.
Thanks, NK Bobcat! With the air conditioning working off the solar & sunny days - I am now using it as my workshop. I never had AC in my shop - this is great!
Nice job. A labor of love!
Truly was - now, hopefully we can enjoy with our grandchildren. Thanks!
Very Nice Sir. A Helluva Lot In Ther, 'bout Everything One Would Need. Much Appreciated.💯🤙😶✌️🇺🇸
Thanks, Robert Z Yes, much more comfortable than the tent I have on the back of my motorcycle - but that is nice too. 👍🛵🏕
Totally awesome great job 👏 love it
Thanks, Libra Man
Excellent craftsmanship, Pastor Jim! You've done an outstanding job on this project. A job well done!
Thank you, Pastor Steve!
great build hope to see more
Thanks - my daughter in New York City will have to teach me how to do some of the still videos with audio but thank you very much.
Hey looks great!! Love it. Look forward to watching your follow up videos
Thanks again Daniel. Now that I have done a follow up construction video and am starting to learn the iMovie software I realize how much time all of the really good RUclips creators, like you, have to take a lot of time with the channel. That lifted floor idea in the front really make my build work!
Nice build
Thanks, Donita - I’m thankful others have enjoyed Haulina.
So clean and sharp
Thank You! My lovely wife selected colors - I’m afraid I would have gone with more natural wood & it would have been too dark. I listened…this time 😎.
omg amazing setup. this is almost the same as what i would like. but ya 48v is the way to go!
Looks amazing! Your attention to detail is inspiring. Glad I could play a small part.
You were a great help - just went outside to check - a little cloudy but I’m pulling in 18.5 amps & the split system AC is set at 71 degrees - nice and cool in the trailer. The Growatt is working great!
Wonderful job. Neat, organized. Clean lines. Have fun.
Thank you Bonnie. I’m so thankful for my Wife’s good eye for color.
I would love to see the build process. Thank you
Thanks, Mike. Yes, I have 11 videos on Haulina - hopefully they are informative. Here is one of my early video - I have others with info on bed build, solar, etc

Very cool! You did a great job!
Thanks, Chance von Freund - I appreciate your kind comment. We have not had many opportunities to take it out but we are on a trip now & everything is working great. Have not plugged it in for a few days and the battery is at 85%. Using the microwave for cooking has not been a problem.
Very nicely done. Impressive. Would love to live full time on the road in something like this.
Thank you, John
So much craftsmanship and creativity - well done! Looking forward to seeing more videos of the process.
Thank You Amy! One of my favorite daughters is named Amy! Appreciate your kind comment.
Wow, Jim, it’s a masterpiece, when can I borrow it? 🤣 You know better than that. Congrats and enjoy!
Thanks, Pastor Jeff
Wow! Unbelievable build. You, sir are a genius! Very detailed and also very beautiful!
Thanks, John. It sure did not happen over night and I had to do things over some but I am thankful.
That bathroom is brilliant. I'd do the bed differently, though i'm not sure how.
Good stuff.
You’ve really executed so many great ideas very well. Very inspirational. 😊
Thanks so much! Izh3131
Trips to the far West will need to wait.
this trailer is absolutely gorgeous
Thanks, HankTheTank - we are starting to actually enjoy it. Our trips are closer to home with the higher gas prices but it is good to visit areas close by.
Very nice! 👍

@@coachgym Thank you!!

I sure appreciate your nice comment. Thanks!
Your trailer looks very nice. I think you did a very good job.
Thank you, DR!
Thanks, Johnny, good suggestion on the lights.
THIS IS ONES OF THOSE WHAT IF'S
Looks great Jim! Well done!
Thanks, Mark! Your just starting to build a few masterpieces!
Thank you 🎉❤
Appreciate it, Great one!
Amazing work! Thank you for sharing what you've done.
Wow great job on the trailer. It definitely looks awesome and love that it is solar ran.
Thanks, Terry. One of my daughters is now a Petersen - great name. It will be interesting to see how those panels last with the movement down the road. I’m told they will take some hail - here in Texas they will get it.
Good job!
Thank you, Freddybtrucking!
