    I like that you're basically co-opting their strategies for justice.
    You lead them to a fake website, and made them make an account which you didn't use for password reuse attacks.
    You got their actual bitcoin wallet IDs from them, which you might even have the password to. And you just report the wallets.
    These guys are falling for their own tricks, in the funniest way possible.
    And you ended up getting put in touch directly with victims.

    Scammers, for the large majority of the time, seem to be a very specific type of person. A lazy, uninspired, unintelligent, rude, and above all else greedy mockery of a human being. So, the prospect of an "easy" swindle was the perfect trap. Also, the fact that this was all largely automated is all the more pleasing. Really feels like you're starting to fight fire with fire here and I'm so happy to see it.

      Computers give power to these creatures, and it's the same with cheaters/hackers on online multiplayer games: they aren't good at anything IRL so they have to boost their virtual presence artificially.
      So long as they see numbers going up on their screens, they don't care about how miserable they make others. At the end of the day, it's not about money; the thing these people truly desire is to have some form of control over their own lives and, specially, over the lives of others.

      @braindecay9477 Gauntlet is also a term english uses to mean "extended challenge"
      The origin comes from the term "throw down the gauntlet" where knights would throw their gauntlet at the feet of someone they are fueding with as a form of "fighting words" if the other party picked up the gauntlet, that would mean they acknowledged the challenge, and accepted it.

      I'd think, as well, that relatively few tweaks could be used to make it look like different crypto/gift card redemption websites. With the likes of ai voice text to speech, it'd be easy to start a network of scambaiters and victims to redirect them down a spiral of 'redeem code' type phone options and/or using g their scripts against them building a bank of responses for common questions etc.

    The great thing about this is that it removes whatever leverage these guys think they have, as opposed to ordinary scambait calls.
    In the calls they think Kitboga is an old person, even if they don't get any money and they waste their time, they can lock the (vm) computer and go to bed thinking the victim can't access their computer anymore without them.
    Here, they're completely resourceless. They have no way to get back at the service, real or imagined. No consolation. No one to threaten or insult. It's beautiful.

    Calling that one friend and getting their voicemail which has been full for a few years is enough to send me into a rage after wasting 60 seconds of my time. Getting that kind of message after hours and hours and thinking you're getting a live call representative is so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye.

    • @DLSacks
      @DLSacks 8 месяцев назад +17

      Another great aspect of all this is that there are literally hundreds of scams targeting crypto-users, and so it's not even that unrealistic that the same "victim" of the scammers is the victim of a shady or fake crypto exchange. So the scammers don't even know if they're dealing with a legit exchange or not, but have to pursue it regardless. When they're talking to Kitboga as a call-center rep and trying to bully him it's just not the same as when they're trying to bully victims (even Kitboga in character). The power dynamics are completely reversed, and the scammer knows it. The levels of irony are getting thick, and even if the scammer is aware of it, there's almost nothing they can do. They have to pursue it.
