Unfortunately Bob Hoskins suffered major mental troubles during and after playing this role.
According to his IMDb page, and I quote from that page....
"British actor Bob Hoskins was driven to the brink of insanity by his role in 1988 movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit - he spent months suffering hallucinations of cartoon characters from the film.
The movie combined animation with real-life action and saw Hoskins acting alongside imaginary co-stars, who were added in later in the production process.
Hoskins, 67, admits spending eight months talking to a cartoon character affected his mental health - and he began seeing characters from the film long after shooting finished."

Perhaps the lead up to getting to the movie had something to do with it. I decided to go that summer evening to see the movie. None of my flatmates were interested. Walking to the cinema reminded me of 8 years earlier going to the cinema when I was in the navy. (Except I was at the other end of the country now) Then a long flat deck truck drove by and a guy waved out to me. It was an ex-navy mate! An electrician who now worked on movie sets setting up all the remote generators and cabling (hence the truck). That was very 'surreal', so put my mind in a time-warp before that movie and then for rest of the evening 🤪🐰

as much I loved Christopher Lloyd's performance as Judge Doom, I still think Tim Curry's take on the character would've been pretty good. In fact, a similar incident happened with the Joker in "Batman: The Animated Series" from the early/mid 1990's, where it was said that Tim Curry originally voiced the Joker in the first few episodes, before Mark Hamill eventually made history after taking over the character.

Yeah, Dead men don't wear plaid is a brilliant movie. But sadly it is very little known. And for some reason, a number of the people that have seen it doesn't really understand that the whole point of the movie is to tie together these scenes from old films to create a new meaning for all of them. They just think it's lazy ripping off other movies. I can understand that much of the younger audience will not get that much out of the movie, since they will most likely never have seen the old movies all the clips are taken from and will not understand the setting they were meant to be in originally. But if one just have the right mind set, they also would see the humor in sewing together all these unrelated scenes into a new story.

Watching both of your videos about the movie helped me learn about it even more. Can you believe that Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin Ride will remain in Mickey's Toontown when the land reopens sometime in 2023? The 45th anniversary of Who Framed Roger Rabbit will be marked by June 22nd, 2023. It would be nice if there were meet and greets of Eddie and Roger or at least Roger only in Disneyland. That would help celebrate both the reopening and the anniversary. I'm working on my own Who Framed Roger Rabbit AU story that features my WFRR non-toon human OC, Darwin Wilhelm. I've been writing a story script on Google Docs, and I'll have to see what happens. I appreciate your passion for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I just recently watched that new Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers film, and it gave me some solid Roger Rabbit vibes with all the cameos from cartoon characters-including Roger Rabbit.
When I was watching it and looking at IMDB, I also noticed an entry for Roger Rabbit 2022, and now that I’ve seen your video I did more digging and found some random online sources that show rumored release dates for that film as being in September of 2022 at the latest.
Now that it’s getting pretty late in the year for a project of that size to be listed on IMDB and so devoid of any other info, and no newer rumors showing the release dates being pushed back later than September-I’m now firmly convinced that the production of Chip ‘n Dale was the source of all those rumors.
I mean, it makes sense. If you work in the industry and saw any of the live action filming or behind the scenes production work being done on that film, which may or may not have used a fake/codename, like they often do-I can see how someone might assume they were working on a new Roger Rabbit film.
Based on the facts that someone working in the industry might know about this unnamed/codenamed mystery film was that it was a live action film that featured a bunch of cameos from cartoon characters, the plot had some detective/crime story elements in it that were targeting an audience of Millennials and their children, because it was based on an older Disney IP from their childhood. If you happened to spot a list of voice actors booked for recording sessions, which happened to include Charles Fleischer among them-I know that my first guess is going to be a new Roger Rabbit film.
So, now I’m kind of bummed out that I’ve taken the time to think about it more and come to that conclusion, because it means we probably won’t be getting a new Roger Rabbit film.

11th thing. Technically, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was the first job and work I performed in life. My 2nd job was shovelling snow and mowing lawns.
Via a contest win with Disney, spoke directly with the board, and via 1/2 the duo CEO/Chairperson situation at the time, this multi-studio collaboration film was ordered up.

I love how the new Chip and Dale movie actually referenced Rodger Rabbit multiple times, from him literally being on screen, Jessica Rabbit being name-dropped, to the less immediately obvious reference of Sweet Pete having a vial of Dip in his torture toolkit. It really shows how much it affected the popular culture of toon films for all time.

    "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"
    Is an absolute classic.
(I would have loved to see Bill Murray play Eddie, but they got the casting right imo)

    • @Hiraghm
      @Hiraghm 2 года назад

I dunno... Bill Murray might have been a good second choice, but I don't think he could have brought the feeling that Eddie didn't really deserve to be the bum he was at the beginning. And I think his anti-toon bigotry might have come off a bit harsher, maybe too harsh.
But I may be projecting too much from Murray's portrayal in "Stripes", where he _definitely_ deserved the kicking he got at the beginning of the movie.
Hoskins' Eddie had a sweetness about him that I think Murray's and Chase's natural smart-ass attitude would have lacked. Again, Chase played a similar down-on-his-luck character in "Fletch", but again I felt he deserved it.

THANK YOU for this! Charles Fleischer insisted on wearing a giant Roger Rabbit suit when he was on set, doing his voice for the other actors. After the movie came out, I ran into him with my friend Dan DiPaola at the Petersen Car Museum during the Mac trade show in LA. Nobody else was around. We sat on a dais below a giant looming1950s Hudson and talked for an hour. What a charming madman. I'm sorry he's gone. Doom was actually Firestone Rubber, which bought and shut down all the LA public transit to force people into their cars, to burn more rubber. Doom's speech about freeways makes me slightly sick. Like you, I'm glad there's no sequel. That exec was right. They'd ruin it now, and as you said, it's perfect

Minty, Who Framed Roger Rabbit did actually get a spiritual sequel and what that is is a product or fictional work that is similar to, or directly inspired by, another previous work, but (unlike a traditional prequel or sequel) does not explicitly continue the product line or media franchise of its predecessor, and is thus only a successor "in spirit". The name of it is Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers which based off an animated show disney made in the late 80s and early 90s, and to point this out Roger Rabbit appears in a cameo in the movie and both the original show and movie are both worth checking out. I saw the movie on Disney after it came and I honestly enjoyed it.

13:10 Hi Mark, mandela effect youtuber here 👋🏻💗
Im actually going to look into that one because i remember them in it, as well! But ive already found & covered 3 mandela effects in WFRR:
    1. Roger Rabbit never had pink covering the bottom of his feet. (10:24 you may have to slow down to see & 12:56)
The early drawings are the feet i remember. Now his feet look like shoes
    2. Roger Rabbits (the whites of his eyes) are blue now (0:52 omg even the doll! 0:46 look at packaging, some scenes in movie theyre white (0:57) others blue like this timestamp)
May seem minor, but this a mandela effect pattern that we see all the time in the M.E. Community. Many cartoon characters from our childhood have had the whites of their eyes change to either pale blue, yellow or pink. Some examples: the magicians rabbit in frosty the snowman (pink), the pink panther (yellow), Tom (of Tom & Jerry) (yellow) & donald & Scrooge McDuck (pale blue)
    3. The craziest change imho…Jessica Rabbit, when she sings on stage, her sparkly dress was RED (10:18 its a quick second so you may have to slow down) but now, its PINK. The cosplay community have been known to argue of her dress color (which shouldn’t be a thing). Her everyday dress is also wrong for me but its much more subtle. Its a raspberry color now, i remember a deep warm red, no hit of purple added to it like it is now.
AND I just found another one watching your video so thank you! Lol 😂
I have a channel, but i rarely use it. Instead im on 3 of my friends channels every week Brian MacFarlane, Curiouser&Curiouser and Scarab Performance (if he ever comes back, currently on 2 month hiatus) if youre interested in learning more. Also, i cant see youtube messages, youre better off just replying here if you have questions. Great video as always! 💗

I can recall playing another Disney feature film scored by Alan Silvestri, Flight of the Navigator, for my mentor, a traditionalist classical/jazz musician. When I told him Silvestri had assembled the Flight of the Navigator score completely on a Synclavier II, my mentor insisted he couldn’t take Silvestri seriously as a composer unless he heard one of Silvestri’s scores made only with traditional orchestral instrumentation. It’s April 2024 as I comment. It’s been nearly 15 years since that guy passed away, and one major regret is that I didn’t also show him Who Framed Roger Rabbit. *That* Alan Silvestri score would almost immediately have appealed to his traditionalism, even if he didn’t relate to the story itself.
