Why do football players wear those towel things on their sides?
It's to keep their hands clean so they can catch the ball better. They can wipe grass or water off of their hands. Some players might spit on their gloves or hands and then wipe them off. It just helps the ball stick better to their hands.

I completely disagree. This guy is an excellent tight end. If Romo's go to route isn't open, Witten forces himself open. He breaks off routes to get himself open incredibly well, and on top of that he has great hands and he's tough as nails. He's a top three tight end in NFL history.
Absalon Salazar The truth is that Witten is an average tight end who benefits from a buddy buddy QB who targets him. If you put the recently retired Heath Miller of the steelers out in a Cowboys uniform #82. No one would know it's not Witten. He is liked by the owner and there have been at least 4 better tight ends stuck behind him on the depth chart. Don't get me wrong, he is decent but not as great as dumb Dallas fans like you want to believe (I have no problem insulting you because you went there with me). I have been a Dallas fan for 40 plus years. Witten is at least 4 years past being anything beyond average. When your game is slow, no one can tell the difference. NFL offenses today are way beyond a tight end like Witten. He's no Gronk, or Eifert or even Jordan Reed. What would Dallas's offense look like if James Hanna with his speed as a threat in the middle of the field? (BTW Hanna is already a better blocker) If the current version of Witten was a rookie on any other NFL team, he'd be a blocker only or maybe even on the practice squad. That's the real truth. And if you add in his salary and how he eats up cap space, he's actually a detriment to the team.
thegorn68 I'm very serious and I don't have to go crazy cursing to be right. Witten is the most overrated player ever. He is average and has been for about 4 years. He gets 1 or 2 penalties per game (remember you heard that from me when you watch him every game). He is not nearly as great a blocker as his reputation. He will get a false start or holding penalty almost every game. He will catch at least one pass a game in which he should pick up the first down but will get tackled a yard short. Defensive coordinators funnel passes to him because he is not a real threat. He's not physically dominant in the redzone like other elite tight ends, therefore he doesn't score td's. Instead of cursing, go looks up the stats. He usually scores from plays that are broken down. Elite tight ends are isolated to score inside the 10. Add all that up and consider how he effects the team from a salary cap perspective, it means they should be forcing him to leave like they did Demarcus Ware. If Witten was black he'd be gone. Curse all you want but that's the truth. Dallas has been losing because of the lack of team chemistry because Jerry favors Witten and Romo, with a bunch of black players probably secretly despising it. Witten is overrated and Romo is too fragile and too close to Witten to realize that he needs a real threat at tight to hurt NFL defenses. Maybe you can't see it because you are too wrapped up in being a Witten fan. Dallas has only had 3 real playoff years with Witten & Romo but white Dallas fans are sooo in love with them only to be frustrated every year. I've been frustrated too but at least I'm not oblivious of what really has hurt them. Went 13-3 ran off T.O. for telling the truth. Went 12-4 ran off Demarco. Whenever they win... the reason they won gets run off. Dallas has been stuck behind "who will get credit for winning" since Jimmy Johnson. Now they are winning because of Dak & Zeke and they will pull the plug on that too. Only for Romo and Witten to complete 7 yard passes on 3rd & 10. Who's the stupid one now?
