Luffy got his after he was knocked out, I think Nika wasn't ever going to impose itself on a free spirited will as Luffy. It awakened by passing on it's power, and nothing more, everything else is Luffy.

The thing that scares me though is that Kaido has never seen awakening before, meaning he has yet to do it himself...
Something I didn't get to notice, even though Kaido could hurt Luffy, his haki wasn't enough to negate Luffy's rubbery properties after his second gear 5 activation! And Kaido, who can move SO FAST he makes lightning look like slow motion, couldn't even react in time to Luffy's helicopter punch after bouncing off that rock!
That's why it's the strongest fruit I think it can't be neglected by any kind of haki maybe it was the original devil fruit and the old kingdom created other devil fruits using it since they were so advanced and got cursed by sea for playing with nature🤔.

Some in this reaction have perfectly understood Oda's aim and are enjoying themselves, others have completely missed the point and are completely closed off, not a smile, nothing... Luffy in Gear 5 is Joy Boy, the cheerful boy whose boundless imagination brings happiness, joy and smiles to all... You're entitled not to like it, but it's a real shame not to be able to understand the message behind it all. Plus this episode was great, it had humor, emotion and epic, everything One Piece has always been.

Making people happy through imagination that knows no bounds! That's Luffy's power, and the authors' too! This episode showed the absolute stupidity of kaido😂😂😂 I was kinda shocked but you'd think the emperor of the sea would've known better to swallow him like that.
