Probably one of the best power ups. For close to 300 episodes there wasn't a major power up for Luffy and it kinda came out of nowhere and it wasn't even against the final opponent of the arc.
Ppl tend to say it was bullshit because there were no hints or previous training, but that's how Luffy is, he always comes up with stuff out of nowhere no matter if it works or not

@@mikblues_146 he was well overdue for a power up like that anyways, and like you said his power is more about creativity than anything so it was fitting for him to just come up with something on his own and try it on the spot. This was probably the first time he ever even tried using it lol.

@@_Cfocus he literally cracked Bellamy head with a normal punch, luffy was always physically strong, the fruit allows him to stretch (and in case of bullet and bazooka, propelling a stronger attack) but pistol is a technique that uses his normal strength, just allowing him to hit someone at distance

i'm just amaze after i grow up and rewatch this again, luffys gear 2nd is actually make sense, he is a rubber man, he use his muscle in the leg to pump up blood faster than a normal human, just like doping, the faster your blood circulation is, the more energy is produced,. the steam is basically his sweat that are actually burn inside his body to produce energy, so hot that the sweat instantly vaporize after its released from the skin human usually produce more energy because they are doing exercise and releasing sweat, but luffy can do it, without even doing an exercise because he can pump up his own blood at his own will, causing the energy that produced are used and store on that gomu gomu move, which is faster and stronger the red color on his skin is because the more blood has been spread through out the body system and stored there, normal human will be exploded
if I remember it was his own version of the 6 powers shave because he was speeding up the blood flow to his heart which was making him faster prob was it also shortened his life span when he did it

The body slam jet bazooka was one of the best scenes in all of one piece. so simple yet so cool
