Hey guys, so in this vlog we are in Raleigh NC.
Come with us as we visit some beautiful places and try some of North Carolina's finest BBQ
Laughed at the “weird” barbecue grills in the park. Americans love to gather outside and eat. Most parks don’t have grills, but those that do are an inexpensive way for families, friends and teams to get together and celebrate holidays or team wins, etc. The existence of grills indicates a family-friendly park.
It’s so nice to see foreign visitors come to the area where I live and be eager to experience local flavor. I like your attitude and enthusiasm. You have another subscriber.
If you're a cherry lover, you'll love cheerwine :) If you ever make it back to Raleigh, try the history museum right next door. Also free and so fantastic.
Kevs statement of “Slathering my pork with all kinds of goodness” will stay with me and disturb me for many years to come while watching your superb vlogs!! 😂
Just wait until you eat some pork 😋 you may never eat it again
Fellow travel creator, great video. What a road trip.. never been to Raleigh buy it looks delicious. 🍖 yeah grill it up. Nice museum also. Nice to meet y’all.
Drinking a Cheerwine as I'm watching this. It really is a you like it or you don't type taste. Vinegar based sauce is Eastern NC, Tomato based is Western North Carolina. Mustard is South Carolina. Videri Chocolate is always on my agenda when I'm in Raleigh!
Im glad you had fun in Raleigh. I grew up here. I'm also happy that when you tried barbecue here you didn't go to some sort of chain restaurant that messes things up you went to a real North Carolina barbecue place. Fried corn bread is very common in parts of the South sometimes It is even made with peppers and onions mixed in. If you spent a lot of time around here you would see it a lot. I can see how you thought it was heavy and greasy though it is dense. My favorite way to eat barbecue and slawt mix it together, And then eat it using Hush Puppies as though they're big fat doe chopsticks.
We loved Raleigh 😁
BBQ sauce in the Carolinas is traditionally vinegary. Further South and South West it is more the sweet sauce we think of in England
Yes if you make it to Memphis or Kansas City... totally different bbq sauces there. Alabama white sauce also worth a try. Charleston is known for its mustard based sauces.
Cheerwine is the nectar of the gods!
Yay! That's my city! I'm a fan of Sam Jones whole hog bbq too!
It was really good. We loved Raleigh

I’m a North Carolinian who just came back from the Lake District in Cumbria and I feel the exact opposite! I couldn’t get enough of the beautiful scenery and I find long drives in the US pretty boring. I guess we all crave novelty! I’m glad you liked Raleigh!
You obviously are' traveling in the proper places.
I agree with you, I could watch the scenery on a USA 🇺🇸 road trip for hours.
The BBQ and ice cream 🍦 all looked delicious 🤤
😁
That bbq looked AMAZING and the ice cream was the best way finish it off
It was really good!
Hope you’re back home with this horrible storm going down the whole coast of the US. That would ruin a trip for sure. Looking forward to this and all your vlogs. Keep safe.
Hi Leslie, yes we're home now. Shame about the storm 😕 we did miss it though luckily
Just a lovely time watching your videos!
You’re in my home state!! Hope you have a great trip down to Florida, where I was born!
Thanks so much
We do a "braai" or BBQ in a park here in South Africa.
Love your videos and Virginia is on the bucket list so some great tips (especially the BBQ food!!)
Thanks so much
Hi Stacey and Kev. Happy Friday. You will just have to come back and go to the park again in warmer weather. Glad you could get into the carousel. It's great that you show all the points of interest and what they have available. I hope you got a picture with the two of you in front of the large swans sculpture. Yes, it's a thing... You can bring everything for a BBQ to the park ( if allowed) and spend the day. Kev, the look on your face when you tasted the pork was pure heaven. Yey.. mug! That ice cream looked so good also. As always, thank you for taking us along on your adventures and all the hard work to put it together ❤❤
Thanks so much MaryAnn. We took individual pictures with the Swan but didn't manage to get one together. It was a lovely park. We really enjoyed Raleigh
great videos, y'all! came across them this morning. I live on
hilton
head which is next door to Savannah.
I've lived in Raleigh for 35+ years. Raised my boys here (both grown with kids of their own now). I haven't been to Pullen Park or the Natural History Museum since my kids were young but it used to be something we did quite a bit when they were 4-10 years old.
There are loads of places to take kids that have a great balance of fun and learning in "The Triangle" (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill).
It's been 40+ years since I lived in Gloucestershire, England, but I'll take a stab at where you guys are from and say somewhere within 60 miles of Liverpool. It's kind of cheating to say 60 miles, but I wanted to be able to lump in Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield. I'm pretty sure you guys are from somewhere in that region of northwest England.
I hope you had a great time in NC and the people treated you to proper Southern hospitality.
Hi, thanks for watching and yes you're correct 😊 we're from a place called Stoke On Trent
@onecouplesadventures, try the cheerwine with Pepsi (also made in NC) then it’s like a cherry cola. 😅
Alabama BBQ is good too! Are you headed to Columbia SC, that’s a great State Capital as well, right off Gervais and Main
Didn't know Pepsi was made in North Carolina too and haha good idea we should have mixed it with some Pepsi 😁
cheerwine sux, but NC craft beer is awesome
Oh wow! I learned how to swim at Pullen Park. There was an outdoor pool (don’t know if it’s still there) and the instructors just threw kids into the water…sink or swim was the school of thought back then.
My brother was scared had to be pried off a chain link fence to be thrown in, I thought it was fun!
Here’s the other crazy thing; I remember when the pool became integrated. I mean I don’t really remember it that much because I was like 5 years old, but my mother talks about how other parents would take their white kids out of the water when the black kids came in, saying “the water is dirty now.” Thank goodness my parents did not have that mindset and I don’t remember it being a big deal.
It’s crazy to think in my lifetime (I’m 58) that this was still such a huge deal…well hell, sadly it’s still an issue.
Thanks for a trip down memory lane. Great video!!
So glad it brought back happy memories for you 😁 and gosh the last bit is just absolutely awful, brings us sick to the stomach 😢
So glad you stumbled upon Cheerwine. Definitely a local NC cult kind of soda with mixed opinions. Reminds me of Irn Bru in Scotland... not the taste... but in the way many people swear by it & others do NOT like the taste.
To be fair, Cheerwine is terrific in an ice cream float. Mix it with soft serve & you'll love it
Haha we love Irn Bru 😁 and somebody suggested mixing cheerwine with Pepsi so we'll try that next time. Sounds good in an ice cream float too
The best BBQ in NC is in Lexington...no contest.
While I appreciate that they tried Cheerwine, the barbeque should be accompanied by sweet tea. Also, Americans drown their sodas (fizzy drinks) in ice. It makes the soda less strong and more drinkable IMO.
What a lovely place!
Just stumbled on your channel and I'm enjoying your East coast road trip. FYI Capitol spelled with an o is the building so no need to add the word building. Capital with an a is the city or upper case letter. Hence capital city has the state Capitol. I'm going to go back and watch your previous blogs. Enjoy your trip.
That food looked yummy
I'm not so sure any soda will taste as good without ice. Cold serve beverages need ice
My kids love Cheerwine
Being from North Carolina and a huge BBQ fan. If ours is your favorite you should give One & Only BBQ in Memphis Tennessee a try, our number one spot, then the Pecan Lodge in Dallas, Texas. Then last if you have never had Mutton before, try Moonlite Bar-b-q Inn in Owensboro Kentucky. If you liked ours the best, these three Trump N.C. B.B.Q. to us from N.C.
They all sound amazing, we definitely want to try more BBQ places as we travel to more US States 😋 😀
@@OneCouplesAdventure We look forward to seeing you eating some amazing BBQ and your thoughts on it.
Vederi is Latin. The state motto is Esse Quam Vederi--To be, rather than to seem.
I've lived in NC for over 20 years and I have yet to taste any good BBQ in this state. I don't want my BBQ drowned in vinegar. I want it with a little brown sugar, garlic powder, onion, etc. rubbed on it and slowed cooked, all day. I miss Memphis.
I hope you have a good smoker at your house. So you can make stuff the way you love it. I like any well cooked beef or pork.
@@funnygirlecu We absolutely do, It's always made here at the house now. :)
I think from watching your videos, you like the food much better in this country than yours.
