- Raleigh is one of the great cities in the south. Raleigh is referred to as the Smithsonian of the South because of it's many museums and in part because of all of the research in the area. Thanks for watching: Raleigh Overview | An informative introduction to Raleigh, North Carolina.

I love these city overview videos so much
Thank you!!
Raleigh is definitely a great city to live in and it will be interesting to see what the city looks like in 10 years because there is so much expected growth. Just hoping they improve the public transit greatly!
loved this! been a fan for a while now, nice to see my home town get some love. thank you!
Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
You have honestly changed my perspective of so many cities for the better 💯
Great job as always. I have been to 30 US State Capitol Buildings, and I have to agree that North Carolina's isn't very impressive, but it is definitely an excellent example of Greek Revival Architecture. While many other Greek Revival State Capitol Buildings have long since been torn down, I have to appreciate the decency of preserving it this well.
Thank you!! 🙏 I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! I live in Raleigh and really love it here, but there are so many things about this city I didn't know until I watched this.
Thank you!! That means a lot coming from someone from there!
Invite me there ❤
Я смотрю Вас из России, очень красивый уютный у Вас город. Вы должны быть счастливы, что там живёте 😊
Yeah, like the capital cities of every state moving more inland to prevent future invasions from the coast. Didn’t know that til now.
I get so pumped when I see a new video posted! Thanks for doing these, they're so well done and so interesting!
Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoy them!
I'm such a fan too! :)
My favorite city down south by far
I love your city overviews, you go into such depth! Raleigh is an interesting city as it is an older city but has also seen very rapid recent growth. Being from the Great Lakes area, I would love to see a city overview of Cleveland, Ohio when you get the time! You do such a great job
Thanks so much!! Yes I’ll make one of Cleveland in the future 😊
I’m from Raleigh and i think you for shedding some light on the beautiful city
Loved this review of Raleigh. Very interesting. It is a really beautiful city, with a very nice downtown.
Thank you! 🙏
I love your city overview videos. You go into so much detail in such a short amount of time and I’m always learning something new. You got to do my hometown of New Orleans next!! It’s such a culturally distinct and unique city with so much history and significance!!!
Thank you so much!! I'll definitely do one on New Orleans sometime relatively soon
I have never been to North Carolina, definitely on my bucket list, in the meanwhile I enjoy it through from your video
Good video. I work at NC State, and we are very proud of Hunt Library. It's worth a visit. The students are very hard working, and watching them work in teams in the study rooms is very impressive.
I enjoyed this video 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Raleigh - Smithsonian of the South 😊 Thank you so much!
I really enjoyed your overview of the city. I think the layout and architecture are great, and the library is great. And as long as it's not overcrowded, it's a great option to choose.
Thank you!!
Wow, I haven't even heard of this place but it looks pretty cool.
Cool library!
Great video. Would be interested to see one on Richmond
Thanks! I actually have already made one on Richmond 😊
For a city as big as it is, I find the downtown to be quite lacking. It feels like a big suburb and you have to still drive everywhere. The Pour-house is a fun record store/music venue and there's some cool food joints, but it doesn't hold a candle to so many other cities of similar sizes around the US.
I agree, I was surprised to find nearby Durham much more urban and interesting than Raleigh. Downtown was quite disappointing and empty but walking around was enjoyable thanks to the interesting architecture. However it felt like I saw everything in one day while tiny Durham had so much more to explore.
Great job
Thank you!
A piece of history that this video missed is that the state's early lawmakers had a favorite Tavern in the central part of the state while the colonial era government was coastal. Like other states during the revolutionary war, North Carolina's capital was moved inland partially to better defend it. When the lawmakers were deciding where to establish the new capital city, they deemed that it needed to be no more than 10 miles from Isaac Hunter's Tavern. Essentially, Raleigh is a city that was established based on the location of a bar. The site and relics of the tavern sit squarely in the modern city limits, fewer than 4 miles north of the capitol building.
Keep in mind the "Capital Building" is not the current capital but is still called that as a sign of respect. The current capital is the Legislature building. The NC governor maintains an office in the original, however.
Lived there when I was a kid from 1995-2007. It continues to become more and more of an endless suburb. They don't call it Sprawleigh for nothing.
I'm an Aussie but I take a big interest in the USA and I like your channel
Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoy my videos!
It seems like you’re keeping your videos short that people won’t get tired. But you can make them longer! We would enjoy it!
A Nashville overview would be pretty cool I think
I’m from Nashville I would love that. I live in Raleigh now and it’s lame!
The best “ not so hidden “ anymore, gem! Raleigh is getting expensive though!
In addition to the Carolina Hurricanes and NC state Wolf-Pack, Raleigh is also home to the North Carolina FC USL team, North Carolina Courage NWSL team and Single-A Carolina Mudcats of the Carolina league.
I will visit.
I don’t like that library idea at all. Seeing the books on the shelves is important aesthetically and also as a spark to intellectual curiosity.
Great video! Raleigh is easily one of the cities I really want to visit. My wife and I even considered moving there some day. I knew about the Research Triangle park, but didn’t know about the 40+ museums and historic features and its nickname the Smithsonian of the South. Also, 2.1 million people in the area is quite a number! I wonder if that even beats out the Charlotte metro? Hmmm…
Thanks you!! Yeah I think it’s a great city. I don’t think the metro is as large as Charlottes but I’ll have to double check 😊
@@CityGeekNo the Charlotte Metro area has more people however just a few Years ago Charlotte Mecklenburg was bigger than Raleigh Wake, but now Raleigh Wake County is Larger in population if you just put the two Counties up with North Carolina two largest cities, we rub it in Charlotte's face every chance we get lol 😂
The Raleigh area is actually bigger than the Charlotte area. Wake County has a higher population than Mecklenburg County. The only reason they consider the Charlotte Metro to be bigger is due to the fact that they grab around 8 counties surrounding Mecklenburg to "officially" call that the "Charlotte Metro". Meanwhile, the "official" definition for the "Raleigh Metro" is only including about the equivalent of maybe two counties surrounding Wake County. If you took the 8 counties surrounding Wake County and counted that as the "Raleigh Metro", then the Raleigh Metro would be larger than the Charlotte Metro.
Can you do Charleston, Scouth Carolina? I'm gonna be a travel nurse there mid-Sept.
Just returned from a few days in Raleigh and I was surprised that you didn't mention the giant acorn sculpture or the fact that they refer to Raleigh as the City of Oaks. Otherwise, great review!
Thank you!!
I recently moved to a suburb of Raleigh and love it! There’s so much to do here. My only complaint is that it’s very hot. Having moved from south Florida, I’m a bit bummed but looking forward to fall!
Can’t be worse than FL?
@@agak61no he’s just tripping
@@GG-km5ug He probably lived right near the ocean. We lived in West Palm Beach and the ocean breeze did keep us cooler compared to what we experience in Raleigh which has crazy humidity.

Edmond, Oklahoma!
Your city overview videos are truly amazing. I just have one suggestion, you need to get into the clothing industry. Your clothing line would make a killing.
Thank you!! And I’ll have to consider that, haha
Do a city in michigan!!!
Showing love from 919 (Raleigh NC) 🫡
Did you get any of your info from our friends in Hillsborough?
Lol I actually did 😉
I agree with many others, I always look forward to your videos even if you’re a bit shallow lmao jk. Good work man!
Lol thanks!! 🙏
Raleigh is getting a big hotel and office building that are going to to be the tallest in the city
Nobody calls the "Triangle", "Research Triangle". Here we refer to the entire area as 'The Triangle". If you say "Research Triangle" or "RTP" you mean the area NW of Raleigh with a lot of tech companies.
Detroit 😊
Can you do Detroit
Yep, it’s on the list!
I lived in Raleigh, but to me the skyline is lacking. When you compare to other boomtowns like Nashville or Austin, its not even in the same league.
The natural science museum and the NC history museum are great! I didn't know its the second biggest globe though!
To me the art museum is just okay, I live in Richmond and we have a much better art museum. I do like that they have the trails though.
Yeah the skyline isn't super inspiring, but there are a lot of large projects in the works that will transform it in the next few years. Everything just takes so long to get off the ground here...
Thanks for the comment! Yeah as I said in the video, I think the skyline is “fine” considering the size of the city. It looks like it’ll change significantly though over the next decade or so.
Wasn’t need for large buildings since most people went to work in suburban office parks/RTP. Most banks picked neighbor Charlotte for big bank buildings.
@@mindfloodncYeah but with the influx of people there is now need for them
I live in the Raleigh area too. I don't care about skylines whatsoever. It's a superficial thing that really means nothing. Raleigh is a great city, and is consistently ranked one of the top 5 areas to live in the United States, as well as top 5 in fastest growing areas. If anything, having the population (or workers) crammed into a small area with high-rise buildings is actually a BAD thing, leading to increased traffic congestion and other problems.
That’s where mrbeast lives

Sorry if I have given you trouble .
Does Raleigh get many natural disasters ?
It gets a few hurricanes/tropical storms a year, and the odd tornado, but tropical storms that hit usually are on the weaker side because it's pretty far inland.
Don’t move here crime and crime 😢
We just left there, very very very disappointed
