@@littlefrank90 there are a ton of big Italian families in the northeast. That's where many Italians settled when they came over from Italy. They held on to much of their culture...food being the primary focus.
There’s a lot of similarity between Italian food and southern food. Both were originally developed to feed large families cheaply, and good cooks have refined the recipes over the years.
My wife is from South America. They have really good food, but it's just different. I took her to one of the better BBQ places in Dallas, TX and it blew her mind. She couldn't believe how good the food was! She's not a fan of red meat because to her it "tastes like blood", but BBQ she says that the flavor is not only not there, but is so tender and has a flavor that cannot be described. She craves BBQ now and I recently introduced her to Beef Ribs and she absolutely lost her mind at how good it was!
Glad a guy from a culture with excellent food can come here and enjoy the food where I grew up. :) One day I want to go to Italy and enjoy all their excellent dishes.
I love watching those from another country try Southern food for the first time. This is food we Southerners kind of take for granted and forget how incredibly good it is. Great video!
Oh, I always love good BBQ and food like what you were eating, Alessio. I married a Sicilian guy, whose entire family save for him was born in various regions of Italy / Sicily. Now that I have tried my mother in law's cooking, I am VERY picky about Italian food now. I back you before God and man on your views of Olive Garden. I won't eat there anymore, it's not REAL Italian food. My husband Gianni says hi, one Italian to another. We love you both!!!!!!
I am going to have to try Puckett's now - it all looked pretty amazing! I have to tell you though - I lived in Houston, TX for 10 years and ate a lot of BBQ - I now live in Kansaa City (Go Chiefs!) And Kansas City BBQ beats Texas BBQ hands down, no contest! Even my Texas friends who come to visit admit that! The best pork ribs you will ever, ever eat! But that being said, as a BBQ lover I was salivating like crazy over your Puckett's plates! Might be a trip to Franklin, Tennessee in my future - ha!
The first American pork BBQ was created when Spanish sailors met Native Americans at the mouth of the Savannah River that divides South Carolina and Georgia . The Spanish brought the hogs , and the Native Americans roasted them over coal fires like they cooked their wild game . At the time Spain claimed Georgia as part of their Spanish Florida territory . Texas BBQ comes from the Spanish that colonized Mexico and used Native Mexican cooking techniques to cook the cattle they introduced into the New World .
American BBQ usually hits the mark for first timers. It's known for taking the cheapest cuts and turning them into something Delicious, Tender, Juicy, Savory & Sweet. Any State known for raising Good Beef knows good BBQ but Texas will usually be the Benchmark to beat. Glad you guys enjoyed it !
I’m really proud of you. I come from Italians and I know how proud we are about how food is made and how it’s eaten. I find it hard to be so open to new cultures because I think about how wrong it was made. Very good job guys.
Southern food has it's roots in French, old UK and African cooking. Somehow...it all came together over a century or two and we have this gift. Glorious! :-) I had this experience first in Chicago, in a tough part of town where I felt like an outsider. Once I started raving about the food, it was like I was family. Since then I've had better BBQ, but THAT BBQ was still, at that time, the best food I ever ate except my grandma's cooking. I said so and everybody laughed. :-)
Loved all of this. Seeing him try the mashed potatoes w/ gravy reminded me of a story my mom told when she was dating my father. Both of his parents were born in Italy, so my dad was 1st generation in US. She said he would order a hamburger with mashed potatoes and gravy on the side because he didn't get that at home. She thought it funny that an Italian craved that of all things.
As an American who would love to go to Italy just to eat my way around the country, I can honestly say I'm surprised by his reactions. After all, when I think of Italy my mind immediately wanders to the wine and the food; the Italians are well known for their lovely cuisine. How refreshing to see they can appreciate our simple, down-home, American food. 10/10!! Love that you love it!!
I couldn't agree more! Southern barbecue in the US is simply heavenly, and I'm from Brazil and we have an amazing barbecue culture and coincidently is also a southern tradition here. I'd never seen these two so amazed before. wow wow wow.
I love the mutual respect you have for each other. And, bravo to you for being thoughtful of your husband’s feelings and dignity. There’s another channel (also Italian husband/American wife) and sadly wife is constantly making him look foolish and intentionally upsetting him just for the sake of views. It’s refreshing to watch your vids and see wholesome content.
It's hard to explain to those who have never tried it what Southern cuisine is really like. You can only know by trying it for yourself. It was wonderful seeing Alessio's reaction to what he tried. Priceless. The real secret? We eat this way all over the South. It's just good home cookin'.
The most beautiful thing is, someone experiencing something NEW.... this is WHY I love travel... please, go experience every part of the globe and come back with these happy faces,
The problem with a lot of people from outside the US is that they usually visit places up North and experience Northern white culture, rather than Southern, AFrican American, Chicano, Tejano, Gulf and Cajun culture.
@@leesdroidaccountharbin9665 If you're talking about cornbread. Native American cornbread was nothing like we think of today. They also didn't have metal and could not do modern cooking techniques. Really struggling with understanding your logic, and why you would think southern food is native american LMAO
I have so much respect for a guy who probably grew up eating the finest food in the world, and yet can appreciate and enjoy simple American fare like BBQ.
There is nothing “simple” about Southern style BBQ. The techniques require decades for a person to master, and the various takes on sauces and seasoning rubs are as complex as anything anywhere in the world (this is coming from a Yank that used to live in Argentina by the way - another place world renowned for beef and BBQ).
I love seeing the reactions of foreigners to our quintessential cuisine. I just stumbled on this video, but I hope you, Alessio, have experienced all the different varieties of BBQ we Americans have to offer. I imagine (sadly, I've not had the chance to visit your beautiful country...yet) it's like travelling throughout Italy and trying out all the different regional pasta dishes.
Signore just realized that culinary sophistication is well and alive in the States. The food in America catches a lot of foreign foodies off guard (29 years ago I was one of them). This is the land of a million cultures. I love this country despite what anyone thinks about it!
I absolutely love this reaction!!! I love and cook Italian food but I'm Kentucky born and raised. When it comes to great food this just shows that there are no borders when it comes to great food, and no hang ups either. When it's good, its just GOOD!!!
You are quickly becoming my favorite foodie couple. Nothing better than watching someone who truly appreciates great food fall in love with new tastes and textures. Enjoy those leftovers! ❤
I grew up in the South, and I have to remind myself a lot of times that people haven't tasted food like this before. All of these flavors are so normal (and still heavenly) to me that not knowing them just seems so strange. Keep it up, and best wishes!
wow! ... way awesome ... Alessio's expressions and honest evaluations on the food is fun to watch. You both know food and where to find it ... and to get his opinion being a true home grown Italian gives this a lot more credibility. You guys are fun to watch .. I love that happy dance at the end :) .. 👍👍
I live in Tennessee and have been to Franklin quite often. So glad you love our food.💙 my grandmother taught me to take pride in my cooking. The old saying she used was the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Must work because I've been married 43 years now😂
I was born and raised in the South, and I knew right away he was going to love the food. Just like Italian food, Southern food is not something to eat, it's an experience. Laughed out loud at your corncake "sandwich" with a pickle on top! I would do the same thing. Now you've made me want to make potato salad.
I like all food! Chinese food seafood , Italian, Japanese etc. As long as it is cooked properly! This barbecue is making me hungry as hell, but I could easily be in heaven eating a cracked crab with hot new England clam chowder, sour dough bread with cold butter! God I'm starving!!
I used to be in food service and you'll never know how good it feels to see somebody enjoying food I love it when I see somebody really enjoys what you prepared. When people come back to you for something you they had yesterday or the day before it lifts your heart. It makes you feel so good when others enjoy the food you prepared.
These 2 are fun to watch and listen to in this video as they tasted and instantly fell in love with southern BBQ foods....you've motivated a bunch of us to take a trip this weekend to Puckett's...✌
Love our BBQ in Texas, but to be 100% fair... we usually focus more on brisket here. I have had KC BBQ and some from the South (never tried white sauce though), and let me say that I am very proud and fortunate that BBQ is treated with such care and reverence in other southern states. Every bit I have tried has been fantastic and you can immediately tell the attention to detail these folks put in their food. I honestly don't have a particular favorite. Some people (regions) do ribs better, some do wings and chicken better, some do beef better, and some do pork better. I have never tried Hawaiian BBQ, but I hear they do fantastic pork too. That doesn't even include whole hog, which is another animal entirely (no pun intended). I am being 100% honest in saying BBQ is hands down the best food a person could eat in my opinion. Glad you guys enjoyed it, and just keep exploring. 👍
I am from North Texas. In my backyard I have three different types of smokers and you are making me want to start prepping a brisket! I usually reserve that for spring and summer outdoor gatherings. But on occasion I will cook one up for me or a friend.
"I hear they do fantastic pork too. That doesn't even include whole hog, which is another animal entirely (no pun intended)." what? Did I miss something?
Wow, what an absolute delight to watch you two enjoy your food so much. I think that was about the best video that I have seen on you tube. I'm glad you enjoyed your Southern BBQ so much it was such a joy to watch you two.
I like the honesty of this cat. It is not at all snobbish. It is interesting that he seems to gravitate to the cooking of the American South. The cuisine there is not trying to be somthing, instead it is something... somthing unique and delicious.
I have been to Puckett’s and their food is amazing! You should go on a Friday or Saturday night when they have live music. My nephew Jon Mullins plays their often! Great food, great atmosphere, great music!💜💜
Most foreign visitors don't get to taste real well prepared sterotypical American foods, avoid fast food and chain stores. It goes without saying that different regions have their preferences in taste and seasoning. The trick is to decide which of those are most pleasing to your palate; but never stop trying new versions. You never know what new taste sensations await.
@Branden J mom and pops are the best. The food is fresh, the portions and prices are decent. Several chain stores are now having their food processed in factories and preportioned, then shipped out to the restaurants. My favorite mom and pops are when the family, or most of them, are from the old country . Besides mom and pop independent restaurants keep the money in the community, where chain stores send off the profits to the blood suckers on wallstreet.
The happiest of dances after eating food like that the expressions, your husband makes while enjoying actually flavorful food is something that I truly truly enjoy thank you both very much for how hard you guys work in making these videos and also thank you for showing that in Italian can come to this country and enjoy this country
And people wonder why we love this food in the south. So funny towards the end he is eating like a southerner. Using his hands, licking his fingers. I've been to 3 different countries in Europe and Cuba and I wouldn't trade my southern cuisine for any. Real southern food is BBQ, collards, cornbread, baked beans, fried green tomatoes, green beans, potato salad, pinto beans, fried chicken. You have southern food like Louisiana and the cajun food which is delicious but it is not traditional southern. Thanks for showing him "traditional" southern food from the Bible Belt which so many of us grew up on and still love today.
Louisana is part of the bible belt which makes it 'traditional' southern. It may not be to your liking but it doesn't change the fact that it's 'southern'. In the same way that Texas isn't southern either. We are in the south but we definitely ain't southern. Though the food that originates in Texas has many similarities.
Pitting BBQ spots in different Southern states against each other will just lead to another civil war 😂. Love fried pickles! The crunch, the flavor from the dill, and the ranch to counter it is a perfect balance. Fried pickles, believe it or not, originate in ARKANSAS! First created in the summer of 1963 by the late Bernell Austin who owned the Duchess Drive-in. Austin's son David Smith said, "He thought, well there's got to be a way to cash in on that pickle. Of course this is the south, where did it go? In the deep-fryer." Genius move. The idea was originally a gimmick to drum-up business for the drive-in that was located across the highway from the Atkins Pickle Company, but from there it just became a Southern staple once it got popular at festivals. Although the drive-in closed in the late 60s, you can still get the fried pickle made with the original recipe (only his family know the recipe) at the Picklefest held annually in Atkins, Arkansas!
I'm so happy to see Alessio finally have a proper meal here. southern BBQ if done right is a thing of beauty if done right, same as Italian food. its about being patient and letting the food and the cooking technique speak for itself :)

Sadly many people who travel to Europe or the United States don’t take the time to truly enjoy and appreciate it.

I grew up in Georgia and now live in British Columbia. I don't know what part of Canada you live in, but in Golden there is a BBQ place that did it really well when I went several years ago. It wasn't good for Canadian standards, it was properly good. The only thing that was a miss was the coleslaw. It was almost flavorless, which was a big step up from the places where the coleslaw was offensive tasting.
@@calvin2032 I live Grimsby Ontario. There is good BBQ places but they are nowhere near any southern state in the US! Thank you for the recommendation. When I go to BC I will have to check it out.

Her lasagna was incredible. To this day I’ve never met a match, which is why it’s tough to order lasagna in restaurants. I was spoiled, as were my 9 siblings.

So a weekend daytrip driving to check out some great BBQ 2 hours away is an easy, fun and delicious weekend experience. Of course Texas is beef and brisket-centric, but the best pitmasters will also craft their own in house sausage. They'll have a signature blend unique to them and found no where else.

If imitation is truly the most sincere form of flattery that might explain why Texas style bbq is revered and imitated around the globe. Even within the states themselves. I would guess most have heard of Memphis BBQ, but less than 2 hours drive it is done completely differently with lots of whole hog, primarily hickory smoked, sauce on the side BBQ,. And then in middle TN on the more northern side of our state, it starts having a more semi sticky rub, and east TN has some areas that use a darker type wood blend smoked BBQ. The Carolinas have a wonderful mustard bbq and a honey style depending on where you are, Kentucky has wear if consider a dark roast honey/ brown sugar infusion, and our friends south of here in Alabama have a heavenly blessed white sauce, and Mississippi BBQ usually has home made sauces to die for also. She's not a fan of red meat because to her it "tastes like blood", but BBQ she says that the flavor is not only not there, but is so tender and has a flavor that cannot be described. She craves BBQ now and I recently introduced her to Beef Ribs and she absolutely lost her mind at how good it was!
Let me get this straight, you ate corn cakes, with pork, coleslaw AND a fried pickle? That’s just - OUTSTANDING…👍🏻
Needed a hit of country syrup
Is there any other way?
Never had so much fun watching two people eat, thanks for the sunshine
Only problem they need twice the table size... drove me crazy with the empty table behind them. Scoot them together this is important stuff!
Alessio loves that food so much he couldn't even form complete sentences. That's how you KNOW the food is good.
yes! I was soooo surprise! I"m still say oooh wow! 🤣
Uuuugn
American BBQ usually hits the mark for first timers. It's known for taking the cheapest cuts and turning them into something Delicious, Tender, Juicy, Savory & Sweet. Any State known for raising Good Beef knows good BBQ but Texas will usually be the Benchmark to beat. Glad you guys enjoyed it !
It's the cooking method that transforms it
Nah, gotta rep Kansas bbq!

Hey Neighbor ! Want to try my Uncles moonshine ?
Southern food has it's roots in French, old UK and African cooking. Somehow...it all came together over a century or two and we have this gift. Glorious! :-)
I had this experience first in Chicago, in a tough part of town where I felt like an outsider. Once I started raving about the food, it was like I was family. Since then I've had better BBQ, but THAT BBQ was still, at that time, the best food I ever ate except my grandma's cooking. I said so and everybody laughed. :-)
Bubba D''amato.
He really said, "forgeddabowpizza" lol. He's in love with BBQ and I love it!!!!😂😂😂
Seems like everyone in the world falls in love with our Southern food!
Not me. And the way he and she dissected NYV was appalling because they chose the worst places to go.
LA city boy here who has worked in the south many times. Yep, Southern BBQ, as American as it gets
I have traveled extensively and never found any part of the country that cooks and seasons food as well as the south.
10/10!! Love that you love it!!
good food is good food, where it's found isn't important
When she piled on what she wanted on the corncake and smiled, how can you not treasure someone like that.🤗
I couldn't agree more! Southern barbecue in the US is simply heavenly, and I'm from Brazil and we have an amazing barbecue culture and coincidently is also a southern tradition here. I'd never seen these two so amazed before. wow wow wow.
There’s a restaurant called Texas de Brazil here, Brazilian steakhouse they have awesome food, Parmesan covered pork in butter it’s awesome
This. A million times.

haha, im curious...what is the other channel?
You are exactly right and I agree ! That's what gives this channel so much likability and sets it apart.
Yes. I stopped watching that one for that exact reason.
It's hard to explain to those who have never tried it what Southern cuisine is really like. You can only know by trying it for yourself. It was wonderful seeing Alessio's reaction to what he tried. Priceless.
The real secret? We eat this way all over the South. It's just good home cookin'.
The most beautiful thing is, someone experiencing something NEW.... this is WHY I love travel... please, go experience every part of the globe and come back with these happy faces,
Southern food is the best that America has to offer, I love watching both of you enjoying the food.
The problem with a lot of people from outside the US is that they usually visit places up North and experience Northern white culture, rather than Southern, AFrican American, Chicano, Tejano, Gulf and Cajun culture.

I have so much respect for a guy who probably grew up eating the finest food in the world, and yet can appreciate and enjoy simple American fare like BBQ.
And show unadulterated joy while doing so! Bravo!

This is my first video of you two. Perfect. Alessio, when Jessi started stacking that corn cake, I said to myself. And that is why he loves her.

He literally had tears in his eye. What a great couple though!
I grew up in the South, and I have to remind myself a lot of times that people haven't tasted food like this before. All of these flavors are so normal (and still heavenly) to me that not knowing them just seems so strange. Keep it up, and best wishes!
I hope you went to New Orleans and let him experience Cajun cuisine. It is some of the best food I’ve ever had anywhere.
Go there next!

I'm watching this while eating my dinner in Spain wishing i'd be there trying all that delicious food! Your expressions were just amazing! 🤭😂
wow! ... way awesome ...
That was awesome seeing him try our native foods. Italy is known for fabulous food so its a great compliment he liked most of the things he tried.
I used to be in food service and you'll never know how good it feels to see somebody enjoying food I love it when I see somebody really enjoys what you prepared. When people come back to you for something you they had yesterday or the day before it lifts your heart. It makes you feel so good when others enjoy the food you prepared.
Watching the way that Alessio enjoys that food is even better than enjoying it myself.
I love how when Alessio gets surprised by new foods he loves he goes almost into a feeding frenzy.
As long as he isn't trying Americanized versions of Italian food.
1st texan ive heard that gives THE BBQ CAPITAL OF THE WORLD the credit it deserves. Kansas City is simply the best at BBQ. Texas brisket, tho...👍🏻
White sauce tastes exactly like a certain white Indian sauce it’s basically the same thing
As someone from Pennsylvania...Southern BBQ is some of my favorite cuisine.
Maryland and New York here and I agree!
What a lovely reaction, so wholesome and pure! The way an American reacts to authentic Italian food.
If he didn't even like pickles to begin with and STILL gave the fried pickles an 8/10, I completely believe her. 10/10.
I have been to Puckett’s and their food is amazing! You should go on a Friday or Saturday night when they have live music. My nephew Jon Mullins plays their often! Great food, great atmosphere, great music!💜💜
I don't think I'd want to be distracted from the food. I mean, if you look toward the music, the food might not get all the attention.
Absolutely! I started loving american food by going to real mom and pops restaurants. It was totally a new experience of tastes for me.

Loved this! He's so expressive and excited about BBQ!

The thing about eating southern food is it’s always satisfying and you attempt to find more room for the desserts.
For real. You could be one bite from popping but still trying to make room for good dessert.

I cannot imagine anything tasting better than what i’ve had, but this looks great! Sadly I have yet to find BBQ restaurant in Canada that come close to Texas BBQ. Alessio, now “you get it”! 😂 Jessi well done teaching Alessio whats what!

Thanks for the great video, loved seeing y'all's reaction to great BBQ. I'm in San Antonio, TX and I'm sure other Texans will confirm, we're spoiled for choice for really really good BBQ all around us. @@aaronpatterson2369 A shame? Mmm, no thankfully. Texas bbq doesn't lean on sauce. Even within the states themselves. Vinegar based, tomato based. Mustard based, honey, brown sugar, paprika, etc - man southeastern USA to Texas cooking is where is at, and I've traveled most of north America and parts of Europe.
