I think Italy, especially southern Italy, and the American South have a lot in common, not just in terms of how important (and tasty) the food is, but also in people's demeanor and traditional values, where family bonds come before everything. We're both places of relative poverty compared to the rest of the country, where people had to make do with what they had and where simplicity informed a lot of our traditions.

I can vouch for this I live near Lexington Kentucky but I come up to Huntington West Virginia and I've been to Parkersburg and one other big city, I've also been to a place called flatwoods which is in West Virginia but closer to Pennsylvania than it is to Kentucky.
I've been to hillbilly hot dogs which is just outside of Huntington, I've been to the famous Jim's spaghetti and steakhouse, in flatwoods I went to a place called The Custard stand they have lots of different kinds of soft serve custard and really good chili and chili dogs, I believe they also have one in Wheeling, I went to kenovav wv last year and went to a pharmacy soda shop call Griffith & Feil Soda Fountain how did chili dog and a wild grape soda, overall I love the food of West Virginia and I know there's a lot more places to eat up there then where I've been but I know that every time I go up there or at least once a year I have to go up to Huntington just to go to Jim's spaghetti and steakhouse they have amazing pie and spaghetti with homemade meat sauce and it comes with bread that doesn't cost any extra it's just an overall good time and tasty food.

My grandfather and family were Italian immigrants who escaped Mussolini's Italy. After joining the military as a young man, he was stationed in Georgia where he met my grandmother....who was a great Southern cook. It's all she knew to cook. Anyway, there were married for 40 years and he never really ate Italian after that. He loved her Southern cooking too much! HA! So, here I am, one-quarter Italian and very Southern. Needless to say, I LOVE good food!

The breakfast menu reminds me of my youth living in the country and having breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday morning. That was when my mother really served up a feast, all cooked on a wood stove using food grown and harvested on the farm where we lived. And the ham cured by my dad that was unbelievably good. Also, homemade sausage with spices mixed in just right, both patties and link.
This video is really great and genuine reactions to great, country, Southern breakfast food.

The word biscuit comes from the Latin "panis biscoctus," which means "twice baked", so it's no coincidence that a biscuit is similar to biscotti, the cookies that actually are twice baked. Fast forward to the antebellum South. Biscuits were tough and flat, and typically were only eaten only in wealthy homes. Most people living in the South at the time ate cornbread instead. That's because mills in the South were better at grinding corn but not when it comes to wheat. So flour was only something the rich could afford.
It wasn't until several 19th-century innovations came along that we got what's now recognized as a Southern biscuit. First, better flour mills, most of them in the Midwest, and increased wheat production dropped the price of flour enough that poor Southerners could also afford to buy flour. And, the development of chemical leavening agents, such as pearl ash (potassium carbonate), potassium bicarbonate, and sodium bicarbonate, what we now call baking soda, helped biscuits reach new heights, without yeast or beaten eggs

Most Italians actually aren't as negative as him on others food. And most actually know even in Italy, recipes vary. This guy visited US and they were calling Italian food from actual Italian immigrant families " not Italian" and truly just so disrespctful
My Italian uncle my Aunts husband) cant stand me watching them even as he feels he makes Italians look bad constantly putting down others.
There was a particular video where he claimed Italians dont put Garlic in Sauce to which he promptly picked up his cell phone and dialed his Grandma in Italy to have her share the recipe which indeed contains Garlic that is left in.
Southern Italian and Northern Italian food varies much line in US we have Southern and Northern recipes that vary.

Not sure how famous those biscuits are since this is the first time I’ve heard of the place 😂 But I can confirm based on visits to the South that the best places with Southern cuisine are the small places like this. As they say, it’s the small things that count, and these gems take that to the next level with their charm. And you just proved that cheese really does make everything better!
My favorite small places to eat are the diners of New Jersey. Although I was born and raised in NY, my parents are from NJ and my dad would take me on long drives to NJ just to go to the places he grew up eating at. While we did those drives, Nabisco still had a factory in New Jersey (yes, Oreos were once made in New Jersey!) and you could just smell the cookies from the highway which was my favorite part about those drives. NJ is the diner capital of America, and just like these Southern establishments, they too have their own charm. The feeling of going back in time to get a quick bite to eat is why these diners and Southern stalls are so successful.

This place is near impossible to get into for breakfast on weekends because of the tourists that show up by the busload. And it’s actually not small, either. It’s an old, mom and pop motel that’s been turned into a whole complex. The cafe started as a little add-on to the motel and over time just took over. But the food is good and made from scratch. Now, I actually prefer the dinner menu to their breakfast food, and as famous as the biscuits are, compared to others in town I think theirs are…middling. After watching hundreds of videos of "Brits try this in America" ,"Italians try that in America",or "Irish eat XYZ in America", I've determined that when Europeans bitch about American food, what they're basically saying is they've either never been here, or only every ate at fast food and/or corporate chains in New England. I never see them complain about the food in a family owned restaurant in the South.

I was really surprised that Alessio rated the country ham so low, it has the flavor of prosciutto and is cured in a similar way. I love country ham but rarely eat it because of all the sodium. If I'm at Loveless for lunch or dinner I always get their fried chicken livers. Do they still have their apple butter? That's what I always put on my biscuits when I go there. The first time I went there I was with my cousins on our way back from Nashville and they wanted to go there... after turning off I40 we drove forever to get there, it is worth the drive.

Soak your country ham in warm water for a bit before you cook it. It takes the salt level down. I can’t believe there was no red eye gravy with it! He’d have ranked it higher as much as he loves coffee.
