- I did my best at coming up with a good beginner/intermediate video on how music levels are made in Super Mario maker 2. I'll do a more advanced tutorial if people would like.

I'm really glad to hear everyone who says how much my video helped! And I've played(and hearted) all of the music levels posted so if this this video helped you make a music level, post the ID here and I'll give it a play and heart. But only auto music levels, I don't have time to please and beat everyone's level if they aren't auto. I'll heart your comment when I've played and hearted the level
I would make Megalovania if I had SMM2 or even a Switch😭😂
Hey Danny, this video was incredibly helpful, thanks a ton buddy! I made a level, it's the 1st Mario Maker level I've ever, so there are probably numerous ways I could improve. I wish the item/enemy limit was higher, the levels were longer and the scale of pitch went higher and lower. I guess I just have to make do. My level code is TY8-B4Y-6QG. Thanks again!!!
Hi, thank you for this tutorial. If you make an other one, could you explain how it works in vertical sub areas. For example, creating a music during a free fall could be interesting. Bye
Hi Danny, thanks for your tutorial and for playing my first level \m/
I'm currently planning to do a musical one, but for now if you or anybody else would try my new level that would be great. Its code is *424 GJX XSG*.
Any critics are welcome, share your thoughts ;) Cheers
Maybe you could use your knowledge of this stuff to make a music level that will play Solar Man's theme from Mega Man 10.
When I made my music level a couple weeks ago, it took a couple hours and A LOT of trial and error. This vid helps a lot for people wanting to build their own music level cause TRUST ME, it’s so much easier with a tutorial
That's true
Depends on what song I’m trying to do. Cause I still don’t understand. I need someone physically with me
DannyB: 1:00 apply it on to "Mario"
Luigi: Am I a joke to you??
Haha I need to remember to say "Green Mario" when I make these videos
@@DannyBPlays Surely you mean "Green Toadette"
Blue toad & toadette: Am i a joke to you?
*Green Waluigi*
His name is Luigi Mario
13:51 Oh my god... I actually learned something about music today.
glad to help!
*5:00** Christmas edition!*
I kinda wish the koopas made a “bah” sound on the music blocks.
Closest we've got is Zappa mechakoopas I think
That would be neat
Really good video. It will help a lot of people. Here some extra tips:
Use sound effects for beats or other effects in the song
Use doors and pipes to repeat or extend the song
Use custom scroll for different speeds
Focus on design to get more likes
If you use auto scroll and you have enough space you can make a little jump'n run challenge for Mario to also get more likes
Most importantly you should make levels of songs that people know like pop-muisc or Nintendo soundtracks
All i want to know is how to make note blocks actually sound like notes
Cause it doesnt work the way shown in this video
No matter where you place them, or what you use to bounce on them they will always make the same sound
Desdinova Eternal light No, they make different sounds. Just make sure, you're not using the standard white note block. You need to press and hold on the note block to change it to a music note block.
@@SeeTv. yeah thats what i was doing wrong
Thanks
Allright time to make shes a rainbow
@@SeeTv. this was first major problem, because this simple explanation missed on 90% of all article or videos.
Lol was machst denn du hier? xD
Thank you for making this tutorial. I am planning on making a PacMan level whenever I get Super Mario Maker 2 for my birthday, this coming Saturday, and this will help me try and make the PAC-Man theme. This was very detailed as well. Good work
Same
Happy birthday!
What's the number of your level?
Happy birthday
I hope you had a nice birthday
Thanks, with the addition of the tutorial dojo, idk why they didnt include one for music levels, but this video works perfectly for it.
glad it helped!
There was one thing I saw that you missed out. A POW block is great for a beat, and usually a combination of some POWS and P-Switches is amazing for making great beats.
Yeah I would've added it but there wasnt room for the POWs to all be with the song and the same beat, I would've have to move them higher or lower
Me pow blocks an baboms
Non-Music People: Hm...ok...I think I get it
Music People: YEEEEES!
@@mozzy4697 god... that joke was cringe.
@@FurryBayo I think you can relate lol
@@mozzy4697 no. No one can relate to that except Zoophiles

Mary lost her virginity
basically learned how to music from a Mario maker tutorial
How to music? You mean how to Make music
I know how to make music, but I don't know how to do that thing with the on/off blocks that makes it possible to go into a room twice but hear different music.

What an amazing tutorial. Thank you!
I think I will try to make a music level from one of my favourite games of all time. Mario kart wii!
Thanks, I'm gonna try to make the Professer E Gadd Theme

@@thegreenbean6777 Thanks :)
Wow. Good job
Nice work! Was fun.
That was pretty good :)
I knew music levels were very hard to make but after watching this video I'm just amazed at the talent that goes into a mario maker music level. Hats off to creators like COM_POSER!!!
3 years late, but I don’t think music levels need too much effort anymore. There is a website that makes it A LOT easier to make them.
Thanks for the tutorial! I’m sure this will help many people including me
glad to help!
This is very helpful, I've been wanting to make a music level and had no idea where to start, going to give this a shot tonight! Thanks!
im already thinking about a metal version of mary had a little lamb
edit: wait he did it already
haha XD
This is something I've wanted to do and now I can try it out, I'll post a music level here when I finish it, also I know you wanted to keep it basic but 5ths and minor/major 3rds could also be used as a substitute for an octave (adding a 5th and a 3rd together might be a bit challenging given spacing).
Thank You! I NEEDED THIS VIDEO
glad I could help
I love that you also explained notes to everyone. Awesome tutorial 👍
Awesome tutorial mate! Also if anyone was curious, the POW makes a drum kick sound.
Oh my god I wanted to do this ever since I heard one!! My sister found one that was Thriller by MJ (I really like him) and she said "Sis! You're going to like this!!"
I thought it sounded AWESOME. I wanted to make one but it was her switch day and we take turns using the Switch. Plus it looked WAY too complicated. So I did some research and after watching this, it dosent sound so hard!
Sorry for this long comment oh and btw this all happened today. So tomorow I will make a music level (its of the original pokemon theme, I play pokemon sword and watch pokemon) and will make sure to send it to you. Good thing I know about octaves and such since I've played piano since I was 8 (I'm 13)! Sorry for blabbering, all I can say is, thank you!!!
Also is there an item that makes cymbals or an alternate drum?
the spring makes a cymbal noise. Drums can be thwomp, cannon, and maybe some others
And also Jump Up,Super Star!
Haha, I forgot about this comment! I'm 17 and have made several music levels, I'll try to send one like I said I would 3 years ago, oops 😬
This video is a godsend. Thank you!
Glad to see the day when DannyB helps DannyC!
Thanks a lot this is an awsome tutorial! I really like the graph of the notes you made this is the main thing I need so thanks for the great showcase! 🤘
Glad it was helpful!
I was going to search something like this, but you did it!
I plan on doing something like just dance, where you nerd to jump on certain parts to not die :D
A great tutorial! I’m planning to transcribe Etrian Odyssey music into Mario Maker, I may post the codes when I’ve got the first one done! (It’ll be “Initial Strike” from Etrian Odyssey 1, go look it up the games have great music)
I read this too fast and thought it said Etrian Mario Oddysey and was so confused
Thank you for the tutorial, this was exactly what I needed. Here's the id for the course I was able to make: DM2-2MX-DWG
nice work, glad I could help!
Very good level
This is a very nice video that helped me understand custom music in smm2
This video was super helpful! Thank you so much!
Thanks Danny! This was full of clear, precise scenarios and instructions. I had trouble finding out how to turn a normal music block into a melodic one. I caught a glimpse here and now I'm ready to rock and/or roll. I'll share soon.
thanks for the nice words, I'm really glad it helped! I was surprised to find that there weren't any other clearly organized music level tutorial videos
Very clear and concise. Thank you!
Honestly I couldn’t have explained it better. I was originally looking for a method of how to get the timing right and this helped so much!
Thanks a lot for the video, I used it to make my first music level:
Lost in the "Lost Woods" [OoT]
ID: P6D-K11-8KG
The song is Saria's Song from Ocarina of Time + a little bit of platforming.
Love it
A year old but still covers everything you could possibly ask for when learning to make a music level
Thank you Danny! I was clueless, I will be using this video daily. You’ve earned a subscriber!
thank you so much, you really are the nicest person on RUclips!!
Aww thank you!
I really liked this video. Ever since Mario Maker 1 I played the music levels and wondered how they worked. It's so cool now that I know how to make one myself.
Thanks Andre, I'm glad it was helpful to you!
I'm gonna try and make the song "A Little Piece of Heaven" by Avenged Sevenfold.
sounds awesome. I wish we could do guitar solos in SMM2 but they're tough and usually you have to change octaves so they won't sound quite the same
Dude! Did you do it? That song is so complex!!
I’m gonna try Eye of the Tiger.
"Apply it onto Mario"
Me: That's gonna be impossible I'm Luigi.

such a great/easy to follow video. thankyou!
Great tutorial. Can't wait to send you a music level!
Yes i searched for a real tutorial! Haven't seen it yet but thanks for making it!
I made a music level mixed with a speedrun, so you don’t have to just wait for the song to end.

Awesome video! Really helpful and easy to follow. As the basics weren’t too difficult I wanted to give it a go. Naturally, the best song to start with was Master of Puppets by Metallica. Here’s the level: XK6-B06-M5G
This was so helpful. Great job man. 😊😊😊
Thanks for making this I just got a switch last week I’ve been wanting to do a heavy metal song. It might take me a year lol

when you showed how to scale the notes at 10:54, it really helped with the tempo and my music level sounds way better
Thank you sooo much for this video !! =)

As a musician this makes so much sense!! Thankyou for explaining the way you did. I've been wanting to make spooky music for a ghost house
Thanks for the nice words! I'm not SUPER musical so it's nice to hear from a musician that my explanation wasn't bad
Ooo
1 year later, that was so helpful
Thx for the video! I'll make a special song and send the code here, as soon as possible!
Thanks a lot, showed my nephew how to do Sonic Boom using this :)
Thanks! I wanted to make "Battle Against the Masked Man" from MOTHER 3, and now I can!
Go for it!
exactly the information i was seraching for! thx a lot
Awesome I'm glad I could help!
This really helped me out! Thank you!
glad to help out buddy!
:)
Thank you for teaching me😊
Thanks for tips!
This will be really helpful when I get smm2.
Thanks! This helped me a lot! I didn't know how to silence the level and the section that showed me all the different sounds was a big time saver! I would however like to point out that the 4 tile spacing tip you provided is not at all legitimate. The tile layout does not correlate to a song at all unless you have the perfect bpm and side scroll to match the original. It's all time based and the spacing is completely unrelated to actual sheet music. For example, a song I'm making in mario maker right now is in the standard 4/4 time signature but in order to time it correctly the bass hits are 13 spaces apart.

Cant wait to show my music level!!!
Thank you so much for this!!
you're very welcome!
Thanks danny i was always wondering how to make a musical level i may try one sometime and let you know if i do
Thanks my man! Very pinched for money atm so I thought fck it and decided to recreate me and my girl’s song on a SMM2 level for our anniversary (we’re both gamers so I thought it’d be a nice idea). You are a time saver bc I was just staring at my screen completely overwhelmed and confused so THANK YOU
Thanks to this video I made my first (and probably last) music level which in my not so humble opinion is not too shabby if I may shamelessly say so myself. 😀
nice job!
@@DannyBPlays Thanks! Can't wait to show it to you at your next stream!
Great video! You definitely had a couple things in there I hadn't considered (like conveyors at different walking speeds). I like your contraption for playing the note at the highest screen position, I couldn't figure out how to do it and it may well come in handy at some point. I pretty much only make music courses, and most of mine require you to do something to clear them, but none of them are hard. I have a couple auto ones that you may enjoy:
