I would buy mostly digital-only games that were ONLY digital-only games on the PS3. There were plenty of gems that were never released physically.

If you want to use your ps3 disk, put it in a ps3. Most people didn’t keep or never had their disks, those that did aren’t going to care about paying $15 to play their favorite games again. The PS2 classic catalog didn’t fail despite having the same “issue”

Backwards compatibility should only mean disc. Porting old games to PS5 and charging us is not backwards compatibility to me
and me that own PS3 games digital should get the shaft if I already own the game disc or digital I should be able to play them with out re buying them
@2bstiff584 no you should get to keep them but I wouldn't call digital backwards compatibility. Backwards compatibility should be a physical thing where you can play the physical games you already bought
KuSoyny already permits players to access PS3 games via the PS Plus catalog. If anything, they'll devise a way to build upon that for PS3 disc owners. Perhaps they'll charge $5 a game for backwards streaming instead of backwards compatibility. Remember, they don't allow us to purchase PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games on the PS5; unfortunately, they're all locked into the inflated subscription service and only select handfuls can be played...

Don’t forget the ps2, ps1, psp, vita, og Xbox/360, GameCube and so on. It dosen’t take much to get back into retro titles. Plus there is tons of games out there that are obscured and rare to find

PS3 games are stunning. Not all of them but some of them look so good that they don't need remakes. Maybe refreshes but not remakes.

@@proggz39 You sound like a PC snob!!! Nobody ever cared about FPS till the last few years and personally I've come to find myself that those things don't actually count when it comes down to it. There's a simple example of graphics on that console which is MGS4. It looked stunning then and it still does now. How about OG COD. Again looked amazing then and still does now. Not every game was a stunner but there were many that were gorgeous. I've been collecting 360 and PS3 games lately and everyone keeps saying that 360 games are mostly better because they run smoother higher FPS etc but it just does not translate to better looking games. The PS3 pictures are sharper, the lighting is better and the frame rates make zero difference.

PS3 with SSD makes no difference. I tested and saw no improvements while waiting for Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 in-between loading screens.
@@victorvargas9330 It depends what you mean by difference. Faster load times? Yes, when games are saved to the SSD, but not when booted from disc. Quiter and cooler operation? Yes. Larger disc spaces than originally came with the PS3? Also yes. I'd say there's a difference.
@@TheGunnyBadger03xxalso, ssd are less prone to faulty working when compared to mechanical drives (hdd). The drives are locked to a max read/write speeds, but ppl just choose to ignore every single other benefit.
LOOOOOOL, stop lying, the PS3 does NOT work with HDD/SSDs over 1.5TB, and you need CFW to get that working because if you put an HDD/SSD over 1525GB the PS3 will display "the installed hard disk is not supported" and refuse to do anything with it.
@@brunoh.1312 It wasn't a lie, it was my mistake now that you mention it. I put the 2TB in my PS4 and a 1TB in my PS3. I upgraded them at the same time. Relax.
I understand that this is primarily for the people that never or had a ps3 or ps3 games and buying a ps3 and games would be more expensive than buying the digital games, but not letting us use our physical copies is just bullshit

The best part about using PS3 discs in a backwards-compatible PS5 comes from having a more stable FPS while gaming. From my experience, when playing PS3 titles like Inversion, Infamous, Dead Island, Mirror's Edge, or Enslaved Odyssey to the West, I've noticed drops in my FPS especially when using major explosions or moving very fast. And yes, I regularly clean out the dust from my system by disassembling the entire console and I replace the thermal paste once every few years. And also, PS3 consoles are structured based on old hardware trying to use high-quality games, so maybe the hardware is the problem.

Amazing and great news I really want to play Dante's inferno, god of war old series , blur , naughty bear , gta iv , call of duty and battlefield old series and many more of amazing games I didn't have a chance to play
Naughty Bear is hilarious😂 I will warn you that it is surprisingly boring after playing a couple of hours though. The overall concept is so funny though, and I think their should really be a remake that is more fun to play

As a Sony fan boy since 1997, I hope M$ gets its act together & sell more consoles & make good games again. Sony's dominance during this & last gen is what's making them put all these features behind a pay wall.
Microsoft is not getting its act together. They dropped their backwards compatibility program. They acquired development studios but released flopped titles. They are banking on Ultimate Game Pass instead of innovating.
They are stretching the meaning backwards compatibility. If it requires for you to purchase again then it also falls into resale. As far as I can fathom, backwards compatibility require original items whether they are tangible or not. If they don't require the old product in original form, it's not backwards compatibility.
If I redownload these potential ps3 games ; can I atleast trophy stack ? They’re already not letting us use our actual ps3 discs so atleast let us stack our trophy’s again from previously played / owned games
If it succeeds, when will the update come and is it paid for?
And what about saves and Trophies if have played the same PS3 game via Premium?

I guess we will never see "Steambot Chronicles" remake or even a part 2. It had a massive following back in the day and is one of my all time favorite games. I would pay $100 for a remake of Steambot Chronicles. I'm guessing most people don't even remember it anymore. *shrug* What could have been..

You can play Dante's Inferno on XB1/XSX.
The only backwards compatibly I care about is putting my physical copies in the PS5 not playing them digital have to subscribe to plus premium to play them so I won’t be getting rid of my PS3 console any soon the games feel better on the PS3

I want to be able to play Dragon Age Origins on my ps5, finding a working OG PS3 controller that doesn't cost more than a PS3 is difficult.

Honestly, I'm just hoping for Fallout 3 and New Vegas to come with all the DLC's. Even better if they cost the same as they do on Steam.
Joke or no. I loved the fuck out of Warhawk. The game play had this almost arcade like feel for a third person shooter. Setting mine traps on vehicles and sniper from moutians. Getting into dogfights. There was so much fun to be had in that game. Really wish we could get servers back for that.

Thats because the people who want backwards compatibility are in the minority. I grew up with Playstation and have no desire to go back to revist old games out side of a few, but I rather have remakes than blurry upscaled 1080p remasters.
Give me a new take on the games that I loved like Capcom with Resident Evil, rather than sell me something again that looks exactly the same, but with shaper textures like Rockstar with the GTA remaster trilogy.

Like what Activision did with generational transfers (remember PS3 to PS4 Ghosts as well as PS3 to PS4 Advanced Warfare), KuSoyny might just do the same and charge an "upgrade" fee for the PS3/PS2/PS1 discs we already own.

I don't think cracking PS3 backwards compatibility on on PS5 would be very profitable for Sony. They could solve it an dump the entire catalogue on the PS store and only a small number of players would be interested enough to make it worthwhile for Sony. Great for preservation but not financially worth it for Sony. I fit happens Sony will cherry pick the best sellers and charge you for those games all over again.

The PS3 was not slightly hard to develop for. The PS3 and Sega Saturn were the hardest consoles in history to develop for.
If it is not for the physical disks, then it is NOT "Backwards Compatibility". If they re-release tge games in any other form, then it is NOT "BACKwards" because they don't go back, they just release a new product.

Yes, there's no point (from a financial stand point) for sony to make the ps5 compatible with physical ps3 discs since they aren't selling them anymore. Only resellers would benefit from this.

sure theres people with loads of old games and many people will buy used games, but they would also create a market for people buying digital ps1,ps2 and ps3 games and sony would be more trusted amongst gamers... I hope they make it!

I agree, my theory about the PS6 is that it will be backwards compatible with PS4 & PS5 games. Plus in theory the PS6 will be capable of running a PS3 emulator, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
At the same time tho, if KuSoyny doesn't want that potential lawsuit for false advertising, it is in their best interest to make backwards compatibility work on PS5 to run retro games at 8K30fps.

I’m just waiting on a FF13/13-2 PS5 Remaster.
Not in-demand. Square-Enix is struggling to recover from Forspwoken and Marvel's Avengers. It is not in their best interest to touch-up the entire FFXIII trilogy. If anything, Microsoft did the bare minimum by allowing us to play all 3 games on the XB1/XSX platform via true backwards compatibility.
Wait till rebirth and 16 gets to pc/xbox then we will get 13/13-2/lrff13 sooner or later this year or next year
