- In this video I refresh and put together the 4.0 Wrangler short block! This is not a rebuild, no new parts were installed, basically only new bearings and piston rings!
By the way, this isn’t meant to be used as a guide to “rebuilding an engine” this engine was apparently running before I took it apart to change the bearings and rings, none of the parts were machined, that’s the reason I did not measure clearances in the crankshaft or rod bearings! This is literally a backyard short block refresh!

I felt the need to tell people that there is more to actually putting an engine together, like measuring clearances after having parts machined, but in this case I was putting parts together that have been working for decades so I know the clearance is good 🫡
LUIS! Awesome video! Great idea for the coffee filters, I would have never thought of that. I'm super happy you got your short block together.. I wish I could find a block so I could put mine together. Rotella is king, Ford Blue Gage told me thats the oil to use all the time. If Blue says it, I trust it. Have a great Sunday brother 👊🤟

Yes, I heard rotella works great for break in from several dudes I trust, I will add you and Ford Blue Gauge to that list! Im terrified of the flat tappet break in, but I rather do it on the jeep before I consider doing the 351!
It really sucks, Im sure you will find one soon! You may have to consider coming across the border to get a good one! 5.0 Ford explorer blocks are all over the place here sometimes for $100 bucks 😢.
@MrBlitzkrieg1987 if you're in doubt add a zinc additive or a break in additive to the mix to be safe. I'm sure you're going to be fine Brother!
@@MrBlitzkrieg1987 I've thought about it, but I bought a lot of parts lately and my car envelope is very empty right now. All I can do is save money and wait for a deal. Sucks being patient sometimes 🤣
@@91MustangLXyes Mark! I know it can get really expensive, specially when something unforeseen happens! This freaking Jeep got me like that! I had a stroker crank and other stuff I was planning to use on the original engine, I had to sell those things in order to pay for the block I’m working on now! 😢😂

Thanks! I really appreciate you watching this! I actually had that exact set up, a 258 stroker crankshaft and rods waiting to assemble the last engine I had, but the block ended up being crack at the number one cylinder! I sold the crank and rods to buy another block 😂🥲

Nice specs on cam for 6 in a row engine
I'm going with that same camshaft in my 1995 Jeep 4.0 Grand Cherokee, along with '96-up pistons with the thinner metric ring pack (less friction) and a Promaxx new cylinder head assembly. Hoping for a mild power boost and the same or better MPG, as I have already added new 4-hole injectors and a 62mm throttle body, which helped with both slightly. Following the series, make sure to post impressions of the camshaft characteristics! RB

A little tip I'm sure u no get a paint marker at parts store and put a dab on bolts that been torqued
