doing great guy's, Ben make sure there are no tight bends on the Trace heating wire and as for Rat's you live on farmland there will be Rats about whether you feed the birds or not, Happy Birthday Dawn
Lol, it looks like the gravel has the same effect on Steve as running water on some people. Very entertaining having cats, they are so funny with the antics. 😂
I’ve got the same conundrum with cats and bird feeders but the birds are happy. Twice when the sunflower seeds ran out unexpectedly a blue tit came to the kitchen window to inform me! It’s quite magical. Thank you for a lovely video.
I feel that feeding the birds is a must in the winter. Even if a couple of them end up snacks for the cats. My cat used to catch the occasional hummingbird in Colorado when I lived there. I fed hundreds of birds and only a few of them were lost. There are all kinds of predators out there that catch birds. You can’t not feed them because of predators. That’s like not feeding someone who might meet their end..
Well, almost another year of hard work done and another one coming. I hope you guys take a rest, because you deserve to put your feet up for a bit. Happy Christmas to you!
Hope you had a lovely birthday despite your cold Dawn. Onwards and upwards you can feel very proud of what you have accomplished in the time you have been there. ❤
Silly cats! I love when I’m working in my garden and my two cats, Bo and Scout are with me , running everywhere. 😊Happy Birthday Dawn. That cake looks yummy.
In the refrigeration industry you can also use something very similar to that, it is used for freezer room drain pipes and might be available on the internet. It might be cheaper than that one so worth looking into. 👍
Nice video, you've done a lot despite the colds. Hope you're all feeling better soon! Lovely present Lucas, making your mothers birthdaycake! Cats are cute as always! 😻
Happy Birthday Dawn🎉 Hope you had a lovely day, cake looked lovely, well done to Lukas. Steve thought the gravel was cat litter😂 Hope you both get well soon 😊
Happy Birthday Dawn. A quick note about the foam around the pipe, don't tape those as it compresses it and will create cold spots. We put a length of tape across the seal, not round the pipe (if that makes sense). Love watching your journey.
Belated birthday wishes Dawn I hope you were feeling better for your special day. Many years ago I learnt that feeding birds when you have cats is better for the birds because being fed makes them healthier, after learning that I never worried that my cats would catch the birds. I have a female cat who finds where the birds are roosting and will catch them during the night, which I hate but she has never caught a bird during the day while they a feeding. Being an animal lover has so many pro's and con's but I am sure the birds around you are very grateful for bountiful supply of different things. The other week I felt so blessed as there was a lesser spotted woodpecker on my fence, it is only the second woodpecker I have ever seen. I hope you both have a wonderful week and finally get over the cold, I must just add that I loved watching Steve and Alan playing in the background, I have a neighbours 8 month old kitten come in virtually daily and he and Tiff my boy cat are best buddies (most of the time) but the kitten is nearly twice the size of my Tiff so watching them play is really funny. Take care and love to you both and the kitty cats 🐱🐱🐱xxxxx
Happy Birthday Dawn. You might think about putting another gutter drain on the other side of the damaged gutter to your IBC. Have a wonderful week. Hope you both get to feel better.
Happy Birthday Dawn. So glad you are starting to feel better. Your birthday cake looked delicious. Ben, thank you for explaining what tasks, It definitely helps me understand what you're doing and why you're doing it. Please take care of yourselves. Hopefully the water won't taste bad from the sealer.
Lots of jobs got done. Too cute watching the "little furry crazies" rolling and urinating in the freshly dropped stone - so nice of you to accommodate them. Happy Birthday Dawn, don't feel too badly, you're younger than I am, ugh! Haha.
Hello, Dawn and Ben!! Ben, when you walked into the outbuilding I saw my very face when I walk into my garage: confusion! Where is it? Where did I put it? lol But I’m glad you were able to take care of all that you wanted. I’m sorry Dawn’s under the weather still, but glad you were able to get those pipes taken care of. Happy Birthday, Dawn. How sweet to have your lovely cake! Hope you feel better soon! See you next time!!
Happy Birthday Dawn. We have our bird feeders in my big willows. We but a rope around the branch and a s hook in the loop on the end to hang the bird feeders. I have 5 cats and although the climb the trees they cannot get to the feeders, unlike my squirrels lol.
Hi Ben just watched you struggle with the gutter and wondered if you can just lay some plastic gutter or pipe inside the metal guttering? It wouldn't be too heavy and would be clean to help collect your water. It would probably work out cheaper in the long run versus the sealant! Happy Birthday Dawn - sorry you are both not too well - hope it goes for Christmas. Best wishes from Hampshire 😊
Hoping you are both back on form quickly, so that you can enjoy your Christmas. Lovely cake, Lucas, better than a bought cake, any day, who doesn't love a victoria sandwich cake Mmmmm loving the Christmas sign, it seems most renovators will have matching West Cork Wander baubles, like a ' 'community badge' lol
Great video, great to see the adorables, Steve's bonkers😅 we've also had the dreaded cold, everyone seems to have had it, it takes its time to go but hope you're back to normal soon. ❤🐈🐈🐈
Love these beautiful souls. Happy birthday dawn🎉. Would it be easier to put the sealant on the underside of the gutter? Dawns boots are to die for, where'd you get them, I need them in my life😂. Straight up decent hardworking salt of the earth people ❤
Happy belated birthday, Dawn!! Hope that you will be feeling much better as the week goes on so the holiday will be a good one for all of you! Ben, you did a masterful job organizing and getting all of the jobs done this week! Glad you found the heat tape and got it sorted and when the insulation gets on it will make all the difference to keeping the water running all winter long. The birds will thank you for putting up all the feeders in the tree this winter and the mice and rats won't dare to come back with all of the kitties there to patrol and keep your "plantation" a "vermin" free zone!! As you were on the ladder working on the gutter for the rainwater I thought that you might want to try sealing the leakes from the outside of the gutter rather than the inside. Then, I thought you probably had already tried it and found that it didn't work either but if not might be worth a try??! Glad Bruce is back in fine fettle and you can drive anywhere without feeling like its drawing too much attention! Look forward to seeing you next Sunday the 22nd and hope that you have a really good and healthy week. Take care.
Happy Birthday, Dawn! I feel so bad for you all being poorly, but Lukas's cake had to make you all feel a lot better. It looked a-ma-zing! Maybe he can progress to one a week for a while.😘 I gave up years ago with the cat/dog/bird sees situation. I put the seed up high and, while my cats never leave the house, there are plenty in the neighborhood out and about. Birds are smart, they'll just wait until the kitties aren't in sight. My dogs, however, have been the culprits as anything with nuts, corn, suet, etc. and they learn to climb trees. 🙄 It was a joy to see the kitties in their new gravel sand box. Their big Christmas gift, I'm guessing. Ben, the entire time you were cleaning the workshop I was remembering when it was just a heap of ivy-covered stones. I do envy you the Dutch Barn door you built as it looks *chef's kiss." You can come clean y workshop any day! I think you will find the pipe tape a good investment. That, and a heated hot water tank blanket on the LP should keep you going! That gutter probably needs a hammer and a block of wood to re-shape it, and then caulking. Not a job for a damp, cold day. Dawn, your decor is beautiful. It's a lot to do in a few weeks only to have to remove it again, but the beauty is worth it. As are the cans of Quality Street I noticed. 😂 I decided years ago that the unexpected gifts that arrive after Christmas are just as, if not more, exciting, especially if they arrive in the depths of a bleak January. Take your time. I'd leave your exterior lights up all year as they are brilliant in the dark and your neighbors will be cheered whenever they go by. Have a great week. Park yourselves in front of the wood stoves with some books and cuddle up. Enjoy the heat and hot water. Talk to you soon!
Im sorry you both are still sick. Here in Ohio at the moment the big C word is floating about. Some of our grown children have it. And a few are super sick. I sure hope your water stays unfrozen for the winter. It truly is always something. Can't believe Christmas is nearly upon us. We have 14 grandchildren and it's always a fun time on Christmas eve
Ben, always remember, nothing beats a try but a fail. I can completely identify with you on your shed. I look in my garage and think, where do I start?! Well, at least the car still fits in it. Hope you both feel better. Happy birthday, Dawn!
I hope you’re feeling a lot better and your colds have gone,😊 if the tree bent the guttering when it fell is there no way you can bend it back up again and then seal the holes you might have to put some steel pins under it to stop it sagging it would just mean you’ll get all the water then instead of it just collecting in the pool
Because heat rises, I would suggest that the pipe heater you installed would provide greater benefit by installation along the bottom of the black pipes.
It’s funny now with all the heat in the house u get colds and flue. But very annoying to have it and just horrible. For that gutter look at flashing tape it comes in a roll but expensive in screwfix local hardware shops might be cheaper. But stay warm and get well soon folks
I go into my cave at Christmas, Dawn. It is summer here, but I always get a pile of library books, stock the cupboards, and no one sees me for a couple of weeks. I hate the hype, the traffic, the decorations, the frantic shopping, the stress. I give no presents and have asked for none.
Happy Birthday Dawn! That was a lovely cake that Lucas made for you! So nice that you have the bird feeders up again, being able to watch the birds in the winter is very relaxing. I hope you are all over that cold soon, I hate it when they drag on. I like Christmas, I just don't like all the fuss, decorating and then undecorating lol. I'm going to cheat this year as I don't have the energy to do "all the stuff" and for the most part it will be just me and Mum on Christmas Day with a few people popping in, besides, we are fat enough and don't need all the calories that come with all the treats. I will get some mince tarts and such but I'm thinking more for New Years Eve. I did a temporary fix on a gutter once using mactac (stick on vinyl that comes in rolls). There is Tape now that is sold for fixing holes in gutters etc. (Gorilla Waterproof Patch & Seal Tape instantly seals out water, air and moisture. With an extra thick adhesive layer and UV resistant backing this tape conforms to form a permanent bond indoors and out. At 4" wide use it to patch holes, cracks, gaps and tears, even underwater.) Have a great week! See you next Sunday!
Hope you had a very Happy Birthday Dawn , i was awaiting since 18.30 and fell asleep again lol. Do look into both these items i mentioned before so as not to be feeling so poorly and keep the rain off your head as that was my downfall. You mentioned skips been expensive as i can well believe that as next door neighbours must have got a very tall 7ft+ and filled up in no time. Are skip bags any use to you as can fill them up with different items as they can be picky. Nice job on the warming cables and wonder if you also added sheets of polystyrene under the pipes to shield on the ground freezing. Have you added any protection on top of those tanks. Ahh the crappy brake caliper + handbrake lever seizing as well used to them , hope the discs and pads dont have to be changed also as overheated it and 2 discs and pads need changing. Dawn your looking and sounding good and now you cough . Wow Ben thats a lot of naked batteries that also need protection as dont like the cold . ARE THEY SITTING ON WOOD AND NOT A COLD CEMENT floor. ? Awaiting a squirrel video robbing your nuts. Might i add in the cold weather wearing a ThinSulate beanie will keep your head warm . Mine gets worn looking at you in my armchair due to a cool draft.. Cats like the new crapper and easy to dig OMG and nice job on the gravel . No Tea thanks as had a large mug of Coffee. You mention rats and are you using Ultrasonic deterents in the shed to stop them moving in. Cant mention poison with your cats. Great idea getting the gutters cleaned and painted with a sealer , can you paint the outside for it to stick? So many bugs out there and trying to keep well and safe. Jesus @Wheelo getting a bump for that very nice wall sign , well done M8
Dawn, you gave me quite a startle when your accent came across to this American - "excuse the coffin " ... I actually thought for a moment you guys have a COFFIN in your yard !
You need my chicken soup great to have in freezer too. Heart of celery and tops 2 chicken breast 3 chicken stock cubes low sodium 1 grated carrot and pearl barley with 1/2 tsp ground coriander. Makes small batch boil kettle i tea cup measure of pearl barley in a bowl pour over hot water leave for an hour and drain. In large pot about 2 litres water on stove place barely chopped celery carrot large stock cubes white pepper and coriander and chopped chicken then boil until barley cooked salt to taste then. When done leave to cool it thickens some magic happens and reheat or freeze yum filling and gets you back on track from a cold.
It's 10 degrees F here in central Maine. Yes, I feel the chill. Is there any way you can completely enclose your entire water system inside an insulated structure, or structures, over time? My pipes (water main and sewer line) are all below the frost line, and the boiler keeps the cellar warm enough so I don't have to worry about pipes freezing as long as we don't lose power. Best of luck staying warm and having enough hot water all winter, no cracked pipes, and a quick recovery to all the colds! Happy birthday in your new old home!
i sure hope that works, guys. It's a real bugger dealing with frozen water pipes/tanks. I've got an aquarium heather in my tote, but it doesn't stop the spout from freezing. I have to fetch my water in a bucket, directly from the tank outlet, when the pipes freeze. Hubby and I have been very ill, this past week, with the flu.🥵🥶🤢🤮
Hello that's a class product 👌 pipe warmer I noticed the batteries sitting on the ground if possible insulation foil sided board just enough to stop the cold getting to the batteries and killing them have you got any Acorns roll them in lard and top with bird seed and hang of tree for the birds 🐦 Love the video Class projects Hope you feel better soon Could you swap a section of guttering cut out bad section and replace plastic enjoy Merry Christmas from county tyrone
Ben, I love to organize. I start by moving items to a cleared space and putting like items together. Then looking at my available space to get an idea of how to put things back for best use of space and convenience for getting to the items when needed. My sisters love for me to come help them organize lol. I remember when I lived in Georgia on the farm, my late husband used some type of tape on the pipes in our pump house to keep the pipes from freezing, he also had a lightbulb that stayed on to help the tank and pipes from freezing. The water lines were buried underground. It looks like what you did will do the trick to keep your pipes from freezing. Your Christmas lights are lovely. Happy Birthday Dawn🎂🎶🎶🎶.
Forgive an American’s ignorance, but when you say you’re in Ireland, are you in Northern Ireland or Ireland? Apologies if you’ve addressed this before and I missed it.
Would something like cardboard inside bin bags keep frost away longer if placed under pipes on ground. I remember way back in the 1970s my dad wrapping pipes to pump for our water well in all sorts of things in desperation old coats and a red heat lamp he later used for chickens after they hatched. I understand different set up as you are outside and not in a shed . Also might be good idea to ask farmer beside you if he has a well how deep b4 they hit water for well that g8ve you a clue where water table is . I live in cavan and we had to drill deep and cost 5000 in 2005 . Was OK for 10 years but we had lime issue and needed new well cost about 5000 again. I recall lime dust everywhere on drilling of second well . We avoided hooking g up to scheme water which was new to area as didn't think water quality would be great . People who do wells tend to know water table depths in most townlands in Ireland. Belated happy birthday to Dawn the cake looked yummy

Happy birthday Dawn. Get well soon. 🎅🏻🎄🌟🫶🏻👏👍🍀💐
Maybe allergies or exposure effects to mold & mildew?
Smashing job of making your mom's birthday cake Lucas, it looked amazing.❤
Happy Birthday Dawn, I'm so sorry to hear that you are still not over the flu. Hope you have a lovely birthday with Ben.❤🎉
doing great guy's, Ben make sure there are no tight bends on the Trace heating wire and as for Rat's you live on farmland there will be Rats about whether you feed the birds or not, Happy Birthday Dawn
Thats why you have kitties! The scent of the cats helps repel rats, even if the cats never lift a finger!
glad youre feeling a bit brighter and hope you're back to 100% before too long. Happy birthday too Dawn. May your water pipes run all winter.
Lol, it looks like the gravel has the same effect on Steve as running water on some people. Very entertaining having cats, they are so funny with the antics. 😂

Make sure paint you are using on guttering doesn’t contaminate your water if you are drinking water you are collecting.
I was thinking the same thing
Sniffling, sneezing and coughing with a cold as I watch your video. 🤧
Get well soon.
I truly understand. I am so tired of my coughing and stuffy head.
Glad you got your pipes insulated for winter. 😊
The lights on the house look amazing! They are really welcoming and warm 😊
Hope you had a lovely birthday despite your cold Dawn. Onwards and upwards you can feel very proud of what you have accomplished in the time you have been there. ❤
Good on ya guys. Keep warm. Keep Dry. All the very best.

Happy birthday Dawn. 🎉 the cake looks delicious.
The cats are going to think it IS proper gravel for the "job." hahaha
In the refrigeration industry you can also use something very similar to that, it is used for freezer room drain pipes and might be available on the internet. It might be cheaper than that one so worth looking into. 👍

U need to cover those gas bottles and insulate them to. Hun❤. Jeez I’ve just noticed your batteries ha, they will want protection too hun x
Dawn, you gave me quite a startle when your accent came across to this American -
"excuse the coffin " ... I actually thought for a moment you guys have a COFFIN
in your yard !
Is grit cheaper than cat litter lol? Have a good birthday 🎉Dawn. May your pipes spray warm.🤗 Great 🍰🎂
You need my chicken soup great to have in freezer too.
Steve thinks it's Christmas already 😅
Should have taken a couple of towels up to the gutter with you to wipe first and leave to block water for a few minutes
You need a little Jack Russell or a Dashound they are great on rats and mice.
i sure hope that works, guys.
Hello that's a class product 👌 pipe warmer I noticed the batteries sitting on the ground if possible insulation foil sided board just enough to stop the cold getting to the batteries and killing them have you got any Acorns roll them in lard and top with bird seed and hang of tree for the birds 🐦
Love the video
Class projects
Hope you feel better soon
Could you swap a section of guttering cut out bad section and replace plastic enjoy Merry Christmas from county tyrone
Please can you tell me where you got the pipe warmer
Tea is always good tidy cave 😊
What about a retractable washing line to hang the feeders on?
Question... do the batteries need protection from cold?
Hi do hope you received your birthday card and Christmas card,we sent it awhile ago,?🤞.I do hope you get better soon xxx
Question do you have to treat or boil your water since you seem to be on rainwater? Is this common in Ireland? Im really facinated
