In US or UK whenever they have banned any specific cars/suvs, they actually banned the production of such cars, they never asked people to stop using them whoever already bought. Ex Hummer H2 was not able to comply with minimum fuel efficiency norms so GM stopped producing it but whoever had that vehicle they continued using it. Phasing out diesel cars is a good move but it can’t be enforced to the people who are already using it.
But this is India. Nobody cares about the common People or their opinion....... Not until their votes get disturbed.....

According to IIT Kanpur research, EVs generates more pollution compared to hybrid or conventional engines vehicles. The reason is that India uses coal to generate electricity for their most of the population and that creates more CO2 emissions when recharging batteries in large numbers. They suggested in their research to promote hybrid vehicles more than EVs because hybrid creates less emissions compared to EVs and conventional vehicles and asked government to cut down tax on hybrid vehicles.
As a non-IIT 😏 engineer I agree with this research if it really have been done and I still agree even when no such research is done.
Because source of electricity and procurement of Lithium generate more pollution than conventional fossil fuel powered vehicle.
And that paired with a pathetic grids that cannot take peak summer load.
What about GE diesal locomotives, indian railways signed a contract for 13 years with GE for production of 700+ diesal locomotives. They must be non polluting according to our government 😅😅😅
Hybrids are more complicated and more expensive.

If BS6 Ph-2 norms were introduced to reduce pollution then what is the need to ban diesel?

I'd say the ban is useless because we all know what happened in Delhi NCR, even after banning old cars Delhi's air remains polluted and there has been no improvement in air quality not even 0.1%.
More than 90 percent of 4 wheeler owners will maintain their car as good as new.
If they really needed to reduce the pollution than they should have banned trucks and buses which emit black smoke.

A Slow and Steady phasing out of Diesel Cars would be better, -
Why don't Govt. reduce taxes on Hybrid vehicles so that majority Indian buyer shifts towards it, this will automatically reduce Diesel car sales over a period of time.
After a shift of Indian Buyers towards Hybrid cars, even Auto manufacturers will focus on manufacturing Hybrids over Diesel. At this point Govt. can direct Auto manufacturers to either limit or completely stop production of Diesel cars (Existing owners will still be free to drive their Diesel cars until their registration expires).

The major drawback of our government is their biased decision making strategy. This tends towards the profit consumption only. A large portion of our country's commercial transportation depends solely upon Diesel vehicles. A quick instinct based decision would cause even greater tension than expected..
Trucks and other commercial vehicles might be allowed to run but other than those, most privately owned diesel cars will be scrapped.

Great video! A few suggestions for future video on similar topic:
1. Role of Diesel vehicles in Goods transport and Intercity Public transport should be covered.
2. Cost of owning a diesel vehicle which pays off with time, better mileage, higher engine life enables the owner to keep the vehicle running for longer period (saving money and preventing the vehicles from being scrapped).
It seems that the auto industry wants us to change our car every 3-5 years and the govt makes minimum 28% straight in GST (and near 10% in RTO). I have seen Fortuners and Innovas with 5L+ kms running smooth as butter.
(in my personal opinion this has less to do with the environment and more to push the consumer to buy new cars).

This is true. Whether there is any study that diesel passenger vehicle attribution to pollution. They don’t take action on diesel trucks and buses, major polluters due to poor maintenance. These laws cause inconvenience to public.

Bcoz trucks and buses mostly run on diesel and a ban on diesel would make them shift to petrol . Which would substantially increase the transport cost.
EVs are a good solution but the problem with them is range anxiety. And the infra of charging stations. In country like India it would take some time to improve the charging infra. Govt can either replace all petrol stations with charging stations and such that charging happens at a higher power
And in my opinion 2035 is a short duration for IC ban. Atleast India needs time till 2040 or 2045. Till then govt should promote hybrid cars

Developed countries can quickly transition to electric vehicles due to their purchasing power and R&D but a developing country like India cannot, government never bothers to think from various angle and take proper, clear cut decision. You will lose miserably 😂...the reasons is environmental pollution and higher production and maintenance costs of diesel because of BS6 upgrades. You can still use diesel engines if government introduce M100 fuel. With small modifications cars with diesel engines can run on methanol fuel but the milage will be less than the diesel fuel.

The main thing you forget is that the whole transport industry depends on diesel vehicles. Our economic will take a harder hit than the damage pollution will ever create.
They are not talking about transportation industry. They are banning diesel cars owned by private purposes. Even transportation industries can switch to CNG or LNG easily with small modifications.
@infinitebeing1119 ...Govt is already working in dedicated freight corridor, electric transportation trucks (first to begin between Delhi and Jaipur), a new type of engine has already been developed that uses bio fuel and is 2x powerful than current diesel engine, EV sector is progressing at a much faster pace especially with battery manufacturing and recycling happening in India itself, Green Hydrogen is also being worked upon. CNG was a failure in USA but we proved it to be a viable solution. So don't underestimate ourselves...we Indians can make anything work.

Petrol will always be there, even well developed countries cannot handle electric infrastructure to support 100% EV's load, just make sure whenever you are buying a new petrol car that the engine is a flex engine, most brands are already releasing them from this year in the form of BS6 phase 2 engines. Right now the ethanol to petrol ratio is 10:90 and soon it will be 20:80. Flex engines will be future proof as they are compatible with such fuel mixture changes, even when govt in future increases the ratio slowly from 10:90 to 50:50 or above. Petrol will never go away for atleast next 2 to 3 of our generations maybe more, specially in developing country like India which is still reliant on coal for majority of our energy production even though we have massive thorium deposits and can rely on cheap and clean nuclear energy.
Cars are a dream for most of us middle class people, when time comes you should realize that dream, just make sure that it's a petrol flex engine car and you'll be future proof for life.

Even turbo petrols lack the torque punch that the diesels have, and the diesels are much more efficient. One can drive a diesel hard and still get 2 digit mileage but they won't see the same thing in a turbo petrol

Maruti has made smart decisions by stopping Diesel cars even before govt making decisions. even the new policy in review process they would have already communicated with car manufacturers few years back. that is the reason maruti stopped diesel cars in 2020. TATA and Mahindra can't make decent petrol engine on their own. that is the reason they stayed with diesel engines and adding electic car lineup which is simple technology. TATA totally depends on external vendors for engines, Gearbox, platform. so basically they are just body shop.
I agree with whatever you have said so far in all your videos. But I really think its high time we value the health of the planet, human health and those around us above profit/loss of companies and individuals. I haven't put a like to this video because of this reason only.

I see Indian railways still using a 1995 6 cyclinder diesel engine for shunting atleast our diesel cars have filters to filter out those harmful gases but that engine throws some good amount of diesel smoke when pushing the coaches when there are over head wires of about 25kva
government ko agar public ki health ki itni tension hai tau hygiene kyu ni hai country mein.. Delhi jaise city mein garbage open pada rheta hai , roads kharab hain, animals khule mei ghumre hain etc.. ye sab bas drama hai or kuch ni. India ki bakwass govt. se hospitalll or school tau chalaye ni jate bas public ko pareshan karna ata hai.

What is the point of making bs 6 when diesel cars are going to be banned, what about AdBlue? It helps in decreasing pollution significantly, then upgrading engines for bs6 and bs6 phase 2 significantly makes engine way lesser polluting and smoother thus newer diesel cars pollute almost as much as new petrol cars.......

Diesel cars for me died the day Govt. said 10 year old cars would be scrapped in Delhi. A 10 year period is nothing for modern cars.
Government should first focus upon limiting commercial vehicles run by diesel which are just not confined to Truck, Buses, mid sized carriers etc but also trains, ships and generators run by diesel. Because Passenger car contributes far lesser than above commercial vehicles in terms of pollution. Secondly, Government while accepting recommendations should keep in mind to delimit the quantity of producing diesel car till 2027 and keeping life of 10 years after registration of car. By doing this even diesel car manufacturers would get a time slot and may devise strategy for switching into petrol and EV cars.
If govt will do this then I will file case against government because my diesel vehicle registration is upto 2035..

Even if they do ban our diesel vehicles, that ban does not work unless every diesel vehicle are removed, that means busses and trucks as well which significantly contributes to the pollution issue as well. what do you think Govt will do? replace hundreds of thousands of buses and trucks with electric? hydrogen tech? when each bus cost no less than 3 crore rupees? What a joke! But still, I am sure whatever happens, it will not accomplish much as always and us middle-class folks will bare the burnt of Govt sudden policies and increased taxations sacrificing our dreams of owning cars and SUV's.
intracity bus can easily be made electric, heck tier 2 cities like prayagraj have electric busses now.

Major things is milage.. petrol gives 14-15 milage and diesel car gives 19 - 25 milage in hight cc ... even in high speed .

I have been researching a bit about my next car and I had a price bracket of between 10-14 L
And I came down to two options
Bolero neo and Jimny for my family use in mountains in Shimla
Bolero neo fits perfect along with good mileage offering in comparison to Jimny the only factor that’s making me think is the diesel engine and it’s probable ban by 2027
Jimny is good car but not spacious enough to what Neo offers apparently I already have 2013 model Gypsy
Neo sits just perfect in every factor apart from its fuel thing
Govt is making fun of citizen property. 15 years scrap a bad policy. Petrol high cost by govt huge tax. Now diesel car destroyed. Why govt forcing, if electric, ethanol, and hydrogen is good people will adopt. Govt should not use and destroy property of people.
We shouldn't follow other countries norms . reducing ev subsidy , high petrol prices , hogh electric prices , No customisation on car, no regulations on pollution causing major factors which are play almost 95% to pollution which doesn't include pollution by cars.

What about Commercial trucks
Govt. should encourage diesel hybrid
Instead of banning diesel
This will decrease pollution and it will also increase mileage
