Hi guys . Can I use a a pc laptop ass my screen for my Mac mini ? With Luna screen ? The laptop pc has usb 3.0 and mini HDMI . Can I mirror the display ?
Nice to meet you, it was very helpful. I would like to ask a question I purchased HDMI for Luna Display, but I would like to know what is the cause of the message "Pease plug luna into your PC". The devices used are windows PC (Windows11) and iPad Air. We would appreciate it if you could reply when you have a chance.
Hello! I'm looking at the new M1 iMac to double as a new IOS development workstation, as well as a way to replace an older monitor I still have kicking around for a workstation PC. Is there any way to use your product with a Windows PC in a similar way to Apple's now defunct Target Display feature that was killed even for older macs that used to support it as of the Big Sur update? Also what is the difference between your dongle and a regular dummy plug/headless ghost? I was unable to find any meaningful information about that. Is your product just a dummy plug that contains firmware to let it work with your software, or is there a fundamental hardware difference that would prevent a regular dummy plug from working with your software?
Hi there! At initial launch, only PC-to-iPad mode will be available but we are hoping to expand to other connection modes, like PC-to-Mac or Mac-to-PC in the future! Luna's hardware is designed to plug directly into the GPU of your computer, so it can get the full benefit of graphics acceleration to drive a low-latency and smoother experience.
@@astropadco Yes, that's what a dummy plug is. We have some in our servers so that we can remote into it with graphics acceleration up to 4k. I'm just wondering what special tech is in this device that isn't in a typical dummy plug for driving the software, as a typical dummy plug costs about $5-$10 on amazon. From what I'm able to decipher, the hardware you provide is just a dummy plug with some firmware that acts as a DRM software key for your remote desktop software to work, or will the software work with any dummy plug?
The Luna apps will only work if they detect that a Luna hardware unit is plugged in. Luna is not a remote desktop solution as it does not have remote access capabilities; it works by communicating over a local network.
@@astropadco Hi! have you upgraded the use of Luna display? Can i now share a macbook pro to a touchscreen windows laptop, and be able to use the touch funcionalities? Thanks in advance astropad Team!
Great question! Luna will work with Boot Camp as long as you have the USB-C port type, NOT HDMI (please check the updated video description to determine Luna unit compatibility.) You will just need to download the Luna for Windows apps once we release them sometime in Q2 of 2021. Hope this helps! Tiffany
Hello, I am a Mac mini 2014 user and I don’t have a type C and mini port either, can I use Luna display by buying a converter of USB-A to type C to use it?
Hello! There is no difference between the unit types: it just depends on whether your PC has a compatible port! Not all USB-C ports are able to support video output, which is what Luna needs to work.
What's the difference between the USB-C and HDMI version? Does one work better than the other? Also, does the USB-C port need to be a specific type? Does it benefit from 10Gbps or 20Gbps? I guess a better question would be, what is its max speed?
Hi Justin! There is no difference between the different unit types as it depends on what compatible ports your PC has. The USB-C port does need to capable of display output, supporting either Thunderbolt or DisplayPort alternate mode, so not all USB-C ports will work. The data transfer speed of the USB-C port does not matter as the port would still need display output capabilities. You can learn more about choosing a unit type here: help.astropad.com/article/276-luna-windows-hardware
Hello! We are working on bringing all the features available on Mac, including headless mode (using iPad as a primary display) to the Windows platform.
Hi jia small, Great question! At this time, Luna Display for Windows does not work Mac-to-PC or vice versa, but that is definitely something we hope to support in the near future! Best, Tiffany
Hi Reynald! At initial launch, this will only support PC-to-iPad mode, however we are hopeful to explore support for other devices and modes in the future!
Dumb question but my PC doesnt have an HDMI Port and i want to use it with my Laptop with USB C, will the Luna USB C Version work with an USB A to USB C Adapter without loosing image quality?
Luna Display is meant to be plugged directly into your computer. We do not recommend using adapters with Luna Display, as we have not been able to test the plethora of adapters on the market and cannot guarantee compatibility, so using one would be at your own discretion. If you were to test an adapter, it would need to be one that supports display output. Hope that helps!
Hello! Similar to our Luna Display Headless Mode for Mac Mini (help.astropad.com/article/218-how-do-i-use-luna-display-in-headless-mode), you will initially need an external monitor to get Luna set up and connected. After that, just launch the apps when you start up, and the unit should automatically connect. Please note, we recommend automatic login when using Headless Mode in order to launch our apps. Otherwise, if you have a computer password, you will need to type it without being able to see what you are typing each time in order to login and launch the apps. Hope this is helpful! Tiffany
Yes, Luna Display will work for drawing on Windows. Please note that Luna Display and Astropad Studio are two different products: Luna Display for Windows will have the same features as Luna Display for Mac - including *extended* screen display capability and pen pressure sensitivity. We are working on a version of Astropad Studio for Windows, which will have the same features as Astropad Studio for Mac - including *mirrored* screen display; *adjustable* pen pressure sensitivity; unlimited per-app shortcuts; Magic Gestures (like 2-finger tap to undo or mouse-button simulation); and on-screen keyboard and Quick Keys.
