  • This is my one stick hunting setup. I one stick while saddle hunting. I find it to be one of the easiest ways to get to hunting height in almost any tree in the woods. I hope this video helps you decide if you want to try one stick hunting this fall.

    Your dog is hilarious. I have a lab that is constantly breathing heavy like that for all the audio to capture. Nice video.

      Thanks for checking us out. I hope the video was helpful. Sounds like we have some common interests. I hope your bees make it through winter. Good luck in the woods. Thanks for watching and for the sub brother!

    You do a good job of explaining the basic method , with hunting clothes, backpack, in the dark, cold weather I don’t think I could pull it off safely

      Thanks, brother! It's just like any other new thing you do. It all takes some time to learn. You just have to do it at a safe height.

    Marvelous idea you suggested about putting in a second loop to your girth knot.😊😊

    Suggestion friend. Employ a backup below your madrock, connecting your canyon rope to your right lineman loop using either a ropeman or (my favorite) a simple clove hitch. Great vid! Happy hunting.

      Thanks brother! Good luck to you as well! I have 2 ropeman 1's in a box from my old climbing method. I might just do that.

    Dude, those dogs! 😂 I bought the Flexi Ohm and I love it! 👍🏼

      I want sure about bringing them, but they love to run on the property. I had no idea how bad the audio was going to be. I guess they'll be staying home next time. Glad to hear that the flexi OHM is the way to go. I bought one a couple days after making the video.

    Do you have a video on that stopper not that you tied when at the top during your hunt?

    Something I've ended up doing that work better for me. I climb with a 9' tether with a end of rope loop, I prefer the dbl dragon loop( would be your linesman's rope). I use my rappel line with a quick link as a linesman if needed. This completely eliminated the need for a ohm locker or twist wire as the loop doesn't have the extra weight of a metal link so it stays easier. When I'm ready to descend I just hook up the rappel and stow the tether.

      I thought about that. Sounds like a good option. 👍

      I was gonna ask why not use a lineman belt instead of your rappel rope then deploy your rope to get down.

    You should try the S.M.A.R.T. one stix method.

    Great information for the beginner like myself. I will be Saddle Hunting for the upcoming 2024 deer season for the first time. I will be recovering from a total knee replacement I'm getting done June 20th. Do you think one sticking is easier on the knees compared to just buying 4 steps?

    • @TheHunterGatherer
      @TheHunterGatherer  Месяц назад

      I think it's the same or a little easier. It's less gear to bring in and quieter because you don't have 2 aluminum sticks to clang together. Either way, you will have to climb. If your knee isn't ready for that, then it will still be difficult. My first year, I used the SRT climbing method with a hand and foot ascender. That might be a good option for you with your knee?

    Im no expert, but I read somewhere that Madrock warns against using a knot below the device. Instead it is suggested to back up with an autoblock on your lineman's loop. FWIW

      Thanks for the good info. I'll check into that.

      @@TheHunterGatherer I just reread the forum post I was referring to. Apparently you arent supposed to use an autoblock below either. It was designed to be used two handed only actually. Of course many are doing it with no issue. Just something to be aware of. I plan to use the autoblock on the linemans loop personally.

      Thanks for the reassurance. It seems easy to use and well designed. I got it in the mail the other day. I need to put it on and try it out. Good luck this fall!

    If you add the platform attachment to that stick, it would eliminate having the other platform

    • @TheHunterGatherer
      @TheHunterGatherer  Год назад

      I have thought about it. Not as much real-estate on the stick platform though.

    Read the manual on the safeguard. You're supposed to have your hand on the rope at all times. It's a belay/rappel device. Shouldn't be used as your main connection point like that.
    Madrock also advises against using any knots to backup the safeguard as they could get pulled into it and break it.
    You're using equipment incorrectly and outside of manufacturers specs and advising others to do it as well. Dangerous.
