I’m a Sonic fan, so I wasn’t affected by the plot much less by the moral of the “power of friendship”. I just love the gameplay and characters. In the Somniel resides 40+ idiots and I love them all
It may not be the best FE, but it certainly is the goofiest. The baddies are so irredeemable, that you can't help but laugh at them. The tropes are almost parodying themselves and supports vary between pointless meandering to comedy gold. Gameplay was great, the map designs are much better than in 3 Houses and for the first time I could feel the weapon triangle making a heavy difference in combat.
3 house was total dog shit if I’m honest with you like the story is meh better than most fire emblem stories but it is meh don’t get me started on the gameplay.
I don't care what anyone says, I love Engage. Most of the characters ARE a bit flat (one or 2 main hobbies/personality traits) but they're also still lovable. Well, most of them. The story I actually enjoyed and it had several plot twists I wasn't expecting. And then the gameplay is just some of the best in the series. Haters can suck it
People think the writing for Engage is bad..? Damn. Either y’all have some high standards or you’re not used to it. Spoilers ahead. beware. Three Houses Plot was easily predictable- at least for me (mind you… I write in my free time. I have a class ability for this). Edelguard and ‘Monica’ being traitors? Could it have been more obvious? Rhea, Setreth and Flayn being saints? Saw that coming before the timeskip. Hell I even caught on to Claude being from outside the Alliance- like *REALLY* early on. Engage on the other hand? Was the beginning plot predictable? I’ll admit, yes. But after the Cathedral it gets harder to guess. I always figured Hortensia would defect when she learned Ivy was alive + Rosado and Goldmary would defect with her, however I didn’t expect them to take the Ring of the Azure Twins. I always had a sneaking suspicion Alear was the sibling Veyle was looking for, however even after he being Sombron’s daughter was revealed I didn’t process that Alear was half Fell Dragon. And lets be honest. If anyone says that Alear dying, becoming one of the Corrupted, dying again, becoming an Emblem, the fight against Past Alear, the fight against Corrupted Lumera and the disappearance of the Emblems (minus Alear) was predictable I am going to ask you to find the door and leave because I refuse to believe someone figured that out.
While 3H was not a master piece of story telling, it at least had some morally grey themes and delivered its message better than Fates (just beat Revelations, holy shit was it bad 🤮), and having more than two factions already makes a story more interesting. Engage did have few surprises here and there, but it still doesn't change the fact that it was a generic good vs evil plot with characters that were more or less piles of tropes from the past games held together with bubblegum. Engage at times felt like it was supposed to be a parody of the past games, but also took itself too seriously for it to be a comedy. Either the Japanese don't understand how to use satire or I'm just a dummy who doesn't understand their 12-layered sense of comedy.
Blame the translator and the mod of Engage. Translator hates us all, which he said in his twitter and does not give a shit about good translation, and the mod of engage doesn't know any japanese.
@@pawadox4958Hating the localizers is pointless, the story is generic and characters are as one dimensional as can be in both languages. Or was Clanne's pickle making hobby actually something more *sensual* in the original scipt?
I massive step down in quality from even the 3DS FE games. Everytime people bring up “a return to form” in regards to gameplay im dumbfounded. It’s the same ass gameplay all the way back to the GameCube games, there is no “return” or even significant “improvements” to the tactics. But the story, characters, and structure are all worse.
Bro I'd you played the game you'd know it's way different, where is the break mechanic in older games? Class flexibility? The whole damn namesake of the engage mechanic?? Braindead comment

I haven't played this one yet but I can't help but feel this is very accurate

It's good, 3h is better but it's still good

@@Edagui97not to mention almost every character looks like shit besides Yunaka and Kagetsu
I like the gameplay of these games. But I can't stand the story and writing

I suggest you watch Excelblem's playthroughs of the games. The stories become much more acceptable when you have seen another person make fun of them.
It’s somehow a worse review in this shortened form
Too bad for the atrocious character design

Its the level design

I can see you haven't played Revelations, that game made me truly appreciate the map design of Engage.
