That opening booming metallic pulse is *still* one of the greatest, most unique drum sounds ever. In a way it's surprising that it didn't become as much a feature of later records the way the Phil Collins' gated reverb drum sound from around the same time did.
Probably because they used a fairly obscure and unique synthesizer for it, I recall Mark saying that the drum beat was the only damned thing they were able to get out of it that they considered worthwhile.

And of course my favorite skaters back then would be Alan “Ollie” gelfand and of course Bert Lamar who was a very underrated skater. Owns his own golf club and apparel line.
One of the best parts of this vid was seeing all those cool skateboards from that past. Oh how I miss my Logan Earth Ski with the Bennett Trucks. Missed it so much I bought the Gravity re-issue Logan with some Tracker Trucks. I ride it from time to time busting some DEVO on tape with my old walkman. The only thing missing is the same skill and ability to ride like I did back then.

This video is one of the best arguments against the kind of jump-cut, super-slick music videos that dominate the stream-o-verse today. Look what Devo did with cheesy alien makeup, donuts, and ultra deadpan expressions. This video just never ever fails to crack me up--it also has a surreal visual narrative, and the song is unbelievably catchy. I am not man, I am DEVO.

I had the Mickey alba k-beam with tracker trucks and sims green juice wheels. Miss those days. Love this band and always will. Big part of my youth. And of course my favorite skaters back then would be Alan “Ollie” gelfand and of course Bert Lamar who was a very underrated skater. Owns his own golf club and apparel line.

One of the best parts of this vid was seeing all those cool skateboards from that past. Oh how I miss my Logan Earth Ski with the Bennett Trucks. Missed it so much I bought the Gravity re-issue Logan with some Tracker Trucks. I ride it from time to time busting some DEVO on tape with my old walkman. The only thing missing is the same skill and ability to ride like I did back then.
