Toni Basil is probably one of the most accomplished Hollywood talents that almost nobody knows. Dancer, actress, singer and choreographer extraordinaire. I started out knowing nothing about her and as I learned more became more and more impressed with her accomplishments.
I saw this back in the 80s for the first time as a child, and it still fascinates me. After years of videos from Madonna, Michael/Janet Jackson, Britney, Beyonce, various ballet, what have you, I think this is still my favorite 3-4 minutes of dance. It's camp and artsy and minimalist while still being infectious and fun. It is completely unconcerned by vanity or the need for sexiness. It feels youthful and unpracticed yet somehow polished and sophisticated and extremely precise. Timeless.
Reminds me of "Beavis and Butthead: Virtual stupidity". Somehow the rythym and drum/base sound brings it back. But great song. I was quite surprised when in 2000's some other band came out with a civer of a song and well, the harmony was anachronistic that i started to dig, and came to Toni Basil. :)
