My late husband was part Cherokee. We would visit the reservation churches and they would sing this song in the Cherokee language. He knew the song as well, and it always blessed my heart to hear him sing it in the Cherokee language. He was a mountain of a man and loved his Lord and his heritage. This song is beautifully done by this princess.

I am so sorry for your loss! I’m eastern band Cherokee and very proud of my heritage…. A few years ago I got THAT dreaded phone call about my mom… I thought that was the day…. I was so thankful that The universe know she wasn’t ready and kept her with me. As I sat by her bedside I played this song for me despite her being in and out of consciousness.
I’m an ethicist and she is a Christian and we are very open with each other and respect each others beliefs… BUT NOTHING GAVE ME MORE COMFORT in that time than this song in our native language.
      It’s a beautiful song

I was driving down the highway this morning, and this came on Big Country 99.5. In 57 years, I don’t think I have ever pulled off the road so I could figure who was performing a song. Amazing Grace has always been a favorite of mine, and this version absolutely floored me. Simply beautiful.

I was slightly familiar with Walela. But the first time I heard this song....WOW. I had just moved to a new town. The first day there, I turned on Walela, opened the front door & it had snowed, it was beautiful & this song came on. It is a beautiful memory

I pray i go to Heaven in the Rapture but if God has different plans, this song will be played at my memorial. Amazing Grace in any language makes my tears flow. This version and language is by far the closest to my heart, as i am a small part Cherokee, and highly proud of every drop of Cherokee blood that flows through my veins. Be blessed.

    Cherokee Amazing Grace translated
    God's son
    paid for us
    Now to heaven He went
    after paying for us.

    Then He spoke
    when He rose
    "I'll come the second time",
    He said when He spoke

    All the world will end
    when He returns.
    We will all see Him
    here the world over.

    The righteous who live
    He will come after.
    In Heaven now always
    in peace they will live.

    God's son paid for us
    Now to heaven He went
    after paying for us.
    God's son
    paid for us.

Many consider this to be the Cherokee National Anthem. The song was published right before The Trail of Tears & along this march they often could not bury their dead. This song was used as their tribute. (They used the tune, but had their own words. See lyrics below). Walela singing "Amazing Grace" in Cherokee from their first album, "Walela". Slides of the sacred Black Hills. Info thanks to: www.flutopedia.com

I would love to have the word to the entire Cherokee version. The Creator had to send a messenger to the indigenous of America because he knew the others were going to screw up the interpretation, and he knew who to go to in order to set things straight. Genius.

Words to the entire Cherokee version ARE posted above. Four verses. It is NOT a translation of the English song "Amazing Grace", that is simply the melody that is used. Many other melodies are used for this Cherokee song as well.

there are a lot of Korean words in this indian song Amazing Grace. Josun means Korean dynasty of Great Gojosun(real name is Dangun Josun) established in BC 2333. Nakrang is the name of dynasty of old Korea in about AD 1 C. And also I can understand lots of words in this song. Jabi(mercy), Eeu(reason), Chiwoo(Great Emperor in Korean myth in BC 4000, the God of War, the Red devils of Korea Cheers used his emblem in world cup 2002 in Korea-Japan). Niga(you are), Nanri(disaster, war), Sori(sound), Nakwon(paradise) etc. It needs in-depth study on the migration of (Go)Josun pepople to American continent. according to the Korean and Chinese historical record, tens of thousands of Josun people moved to American continent in between BC 1C~AD 1C.
'Nakwon Josun eeu rosse' -> Paradise Josun is the reason(why I came here).

I am Cherokee, and please note that the visuals are misleading. Our traditional homeland is in the Great Smoky Mountains. Though this is beautiful, it lends itself to stereotyping American Indian cultures as one: Buffalo hunters and tipi dwellers. We were AND are all different.
