Amazing Eggnog Recipe

- My traditional Eggnog recipe is rich and creamy with simply the best balance of sweetness and spice. Bourbon adds an extra kick, and the addition of heavy cream makes this cocktail reminiscent of melted ice cream. If your memories of eggnog always include a cardboard carton, you must try this recipe. This homemade version has so much more flavor than store-bought eggnog, and you can personalize the flavors too!

Interesting recipe, must try that version, here in UK we use all the egg and we don’t use alcohol in it. It dates back to C14th and uses milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla essence and spices. Spices vary, but usually nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and mixed spices. Firstly we beat the entire egg(s), boil about 2 litres of milk, cool the milk until warm, add egg(s), sugar beat in until combined. Finally add vanilla and spices and serve immediately.
Raw eggs.. why I never tried egg not because I thought all were made this way. Love the American recipe... without the egg whites at the end
Made this recipe for the winter solstice holiday. Tasted even better the next day after "marinating" in the fridge over night. Was quite sweet for my linking and made a second batch with less sugar which was perfect. Sweeten to preference. Delicious!!
I married my best friend on the 1st of this month, we've been together over 6 years and we always buy him both alcoholic and non alcoholic egg nog in December. This year i want to surprise him with home made eggnog for our first christmas married.
I'm so glad you kept going and refined your videos, you are an incredible teacher in a really simple way. I've learned so many things from watching your videos. Thank you.
Wow John, within 4 mins of me watching this video you were at 700 views and jumped to 1k+ within that time. Your recipes are tried and true!
Honestly, I just found his channel yesterday and immediately subscribed because I just like his smile and his cheery personality and how quick his vids are. Not yet tried any of the recipes though. ❤
Been following him for years. Everything I’ve cooked of his has been an absolute hit.
In 22 hours he’s gone to 4.4M! Well done John!
Welcome to the club!
.yo 6:11 you should 😮m😊
i really appreciate your insights about cookware! so many home bakers (me included) follow recipes to a T and end up heartbroken because of the wrong pan or device.
Please keep it up!
When I was a child, my Mom made Egg Nog every Christmas. She never spiked it. It was so good.
drop the recipe
@@restingsadface unfortunately I don't have her recipe. My Mom developed Alzeheimers, she lived 11 and a half years following her diagnosis, if I asked her how she made certain things, she'd say I was confused, she never made that. She prepared a side dish she called Tomato Pudding. I don't have that recipe and wish I did. Her Egg Nog was so delicious.

Dear John, thank you for your eggnog recipe. It looks delicious. 🎄🥰🏡
This recipe came at the right time ! I just decided that I should make this for the first time.
I never liked eggnog until I had it homemade at a Jamaican friend’s home. WOW! Store-bought should be outlawed! I’ve made homemade ever since. Freshly grated nutmeg is a must.
I just made your eggnog recipe ... I used it more as a guideline/method to make a non dairy version that my husband could drink, substituting Almond Creamer and Almond Milk, respectively, in the recipe... Just to let you know, it turned out great ... given my husband's allergy to milk , I've been looking for a great recipe that I could make for the holidays, and this was it ! Thanks again for all of the great recipes & methods ... Happy New Year 🎉🥃🥳🥂✨️
For the longest time I just dismissed Eggnog till I heard John description of "poor able custard". Made a batch for Christmas and today 1 day of February here I am making my second btach. ❤ I do used all dark rum. Next time I will do the Bourbon 😊 Delicious
I've always wanted to make my own eggnog. I don't drink, so I wont be adding any booze, but it looks absolutely positively yummy 😊 Ill be trying it this holiday season for sure! Might even replace my go-to apple cider...!
I love Eggnog! Going to make this plant-based as I have a family history of Cancer and have learned I now need to avoid the estrogen and possible BLV in dairy and the choline in eggs. Thank you for posting
Neat eggnog story.
Years ago I made homemade eggnog for the first time. It was all going well, I thought, but I was cooking, and baking, and parenting, all at the same time.
And I ended up over stirring the eggnog! I was super upset at first, thinking I'd ruined it. Then it cooled a tad, and I realized that I'd accidentally made whipped eggnog! It was a hit! It went with the pumpkin pies perfectly!
Sadly, I haven't been able to recreate that accidental delicacy since. I'm gonna keep trying though.

I was boiling eggs and forgot them. Did you know eggs will blow up? I never want to repeat that one!!!
@@kathyrama4570 I have done that once. It had a special smell!
@@SammytheBeak I done a lot of swearing cleaning that mess up!! I basically taught myself to cook. We were poor , my Dad was a Coal Miner. My Mom told me she didn't try to teach me to cook, because we couldn't afford to waste food. I took Home Ec, didn't do well. In the 10th grade, I really wasn't interested that much in cooking. I did develop an interest in my middle 20's and am a pretty good cook and baker. One of my Aunts visited when I was about 26, I said, I'm gonna get out there and cook us some supper, she asked if I was preparing Chips and Dip.
Now that I've watched this three times on two different days...here I go! 👩🍳
How was it?
@@michaelwhitt2872 absolutely awesome!
@@michaelwhitt2872 It was missing the signature flavor of eggnog. I am going with a different, aged, recipe this year. Making it on Thanksgiving to drink on Christmas.
@@Sotweetie what's your recipe?
I am so, so sick right now, and this video is so comforting. Thank you and happy holidays
So grateful that you persevered, John! Not that I think your first video was bad, but I can't imagine you not being on RUclips. You and Max Miller are my RUclips Champions! 🎉🎄👼🏼🎅🏻🧑🏻🎄🌟🎉
@PreppyKltchen 🌞🌞🌞
Mine is chilling right now!! We used our raw milk and cream and eggs from our homestead. I also added a pinch of allspice and cinnamon in addition to the freshly ground nutmeg!!
Oh John, bless, that original video was iconic! Look how far you've come! Congrats.
Hi john, I'm from the UK and buying eggnog is quite a task so my girlfriend and I decided to try your recipe , we already had success with your banana bread so this Christmas we are trying this. I love your recipes as they are easy to follow. Thank you🙂🙂
Ooo, I have this recipe book. I will check this out and make it. Thank you
I love eggnog. 😋❤️I look forward to it every year. I usually only add ground cinnamon and sometimes whipped cream.
Thank you, I was very curious about eggnog. Never had it before. I might try it for the holidays.
Wow super marvelous video 🙏 Thank U so much Dear 👌👍🤩🤗
I made this tonight. It was fantastic! Wow! And what fun to see your early video, too.
As my family’s reigning eggnog queen, I welcome the opportunity to study John’s eggnog methods.❤
We thank you for your perseverance 😊
I made it and I tasted the last bit of batter and it taste amazing thank you for your help
I made this, but added Ole Smoky Salty Caramel Whiskey (had it on hand)...it was an absolute hit. THANK YOU for your recipe and knowledge! ❤
I made this today and it came out really good. I've seen a lot of eggnog videos, and your one is the best. Thank you 🙏
I tried this one... Amazing!! My family really enjoyed it... Thanks so much for this recipe 😊
I always make with egg whites and whipping cream. It's a family favorite but since there was a kid around and my grandma didn't drink alcohol, i made it without booze. I enjoyed homemade over store bought.
Thank you so much through out the year I learn so much from you I don't know how to thank you may you enjoy your Christmas with your family may the Lord give you many blessing nd be your leader nd grow more thank you very very much John I really appreciated nd may you continuous working together my family says thank so much for the good recipes
I grew up in New England we always had Christmas Eve homemade eggnog. I can’t wait to try this w the egg whites!!
One of my favorite cooking shows. Love that the eggs are cooked. Would love to purchase a few new pans. Not a full set at this time. Please consider adding a favorite pot or two to your product links.
I just made this and it is perfection! I'm going to gift it to some friends and family for Christmas. 😋
I like to serve my eggnog in a coup as well and garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. That little bit of sugar crunch on the top adds an element of brûlée.
I love that you can laugh at yourself! Thanks for the recipe! Can't wait to serve this!
I really like my flat whisk which works well with this kind of recipe and really handy making a roux.
I'm making fresh eggnog this year. I'm gonna do it tomorrow. We're making tamales and pozole from scratch and i was gonna do eggnog and then use the leftover egg whites to make mexican hot chocolate macarons with either a mexican hot chocolate ganache filling or melt down some mexican hot chocolate pieces and fold that into a swiss meringue buttercream and use that for a filling. The reason i thought of mexican hot chocolate instead of regular chocolate is because, for starters, I bought a couple of packs of it the other day and also because the tamales and pozole, I thought if I do the macarons it would be fun to stick with the mexican theme. My bf makes the best tamales I've ever tasted in my life and everyone else agrees that they are unlike any tamales they've ever had. The masa is just amazing and flavorful and tender and moist. Oh God. So excited for tomorrow! Or rather, at this point, it's today, I guess. It's already 3:08am.
You are just the cutest. I will be trying this recipe this Christmas.
Hello beautiful👋🏻 how are you doing? how does it feel to be the most prettiest lady around here? Love your smile by the way I just wanted to say hi hope you’re having an amazing day🙌🏻🙌🏻😊
I add equal parts rum, cognac and Fireball to my egg nog. Start making the first week of December so that it will be ready by Christmas. The alcohol acts as a preservative for the dairy and eggs. The liquid gets thicker and thicker as days pass. When I’m ready to serve it, I add half & half or whole milk (depends what I have on hand).
John you are the best, my sister in law made the best smoothed a bit thick delicious and she used Polish Spiritus. They called it Ayer cognac , not sure how to spell it, but we loved it. You couldn’t drink a lot of it because it was sweet and just a rich desert drink to sip gently not to get drunk on at Christmas. John if you know what I’m talking about and you know how to make it, would be great. Unfortunately she died and I never got it from her.
Love watching your videos. I took your advice and added 1/3 cup cornstarch to my sugar cookie and voila cookies came out of the oven in the same shape they were put in. Thank you!
I love how you're into balancing out the flavors with bourbon, and the eggnog probably smells so good. Cheers. 🙂
I love Eggnog. I’m definitely going to try this recipe with Bourbon. Perfectly made!♥️
That was something! Added some alcohol for the flavor - delicious drink for the party! (Just call a taxi afterwards). Heard a lot about this drink, but never tried one. Decided to cook by myself and your recipe is so easy to follow with all the comments to avoid mistakes. No chance to buy one at the store, homemade only. You are such a great teacher! Next time will devide in two portions: one for the kids without "optional alcohol" ))) and one for adults. Thank you, John, and have a wonderful holiday season!
I love all your recipes! I’ve made so many things you have shared and everything has been so good. Thank you so much❤️
Ooh looks good. I’ve been living in the UK for decades and I can’t find this anywhere except online. I’m trying this for sure!

I don’t celebrate Christmas and have never had eggnog before. I am excited to try this recipe out.
Merry Christmas John to you and your beautiful family and thank you for all your fabulous recipes
8/10 was very helpful entertaining and relatively easy to understand. thx
Watching you is such a delight. Happy Holiday season to you and your family.
I'm making this Sunday! Thank you for this recipe! Love trying new ones!
So I watched a video about how to make boiled custard, which reminded me of eggnog, and your reference to custard confirmed it. I'm going to use a blender to eliminate the tempering process so I can warm the eggs and milk together. Hopefully resulting in a thick, smooth custard.
This brings back memories of my aunt. I never liked eggnog except the one she made with add peppermint for the kids.
This looks great
Your content is such a pleasure to watch. I am going to start commenting since hearing that it helps the algorithm. Dolly Madison often served milk punch at the White House, I have read. Is the salmonella scare with eggs over? I’m seeing more and more raw egg consumption, which is fine with me as long as as no gastric upset occurs. Martha Stewart feels Maker’s Mark bourbon is essential for eggnog. She’s usually if not always right.
LOVE THAT YOU KEPT THE SHIRT CONSISTENT LOVENYOU CHEF!
Very nice recipie John! They looks amazing! Have a nice day and good weekend! Have a good week! 👍👏🎄☃️❄️
This looks absolutely beautiful!!
FANTASTIC COMBINATION FANTASTIC TASTE THANK YOU SIR
I was wondering why my favorite pot and pan seemed lucky and everything I make in those come out so good and as you explained, they have thick walls 🤔😌
Never made eggnog before and hated store bought but I made this today and it's delicious thank you 😊
I make mine with Southern Comfort, yum.
Thank you! You gave us an arial /over head view!!
YES this is our family egg nog. Love it with the egg whites. It makes it lighter. Always used Jim Bean at grandmas house. Thanks for this one.
@Brenda
Kannst DU mir bitte Antworten Brenda?
Thank you for your video and happy holidays!!!!!
Your apron is adorable. Watching this on a chilly, rainy, Friday morning. Where is smell-a-vision when I need it. #bourbon #eggnog #brandy
I make my eggnog with my home brewed mango habanero mead. It's so tasty with just a hint of heat.
Ohhhhh a use for all those left over yokes for when I make meringues... thank you!
I never knew making egg nog would be so easy. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family. 🎄
You can also use liquid white eggs. It'll side step the slightest risk of salmonella. Because those white egg cartons are pasteurized.
We love them anyway. People never spread any kindness
Looks like he was using Rock Hill bourbon! Love this recipe even more❤😂
It looks delicious! From Japan❤
On a Much lighter note Preppy Kitchen John K. I love his videos
What a delicious glass of eggnog. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
I just bought your cookbook, and it’s absolutely lovely. I’m hopeful for a future cookbook called Just Desserts.
Like we are meeting goals in a timely manner
it's a Christmas miracle 😭 I want to make eggnog for a Christmas party im hosting so im super happy you uploaded! I only trust your recipes 😭😭💗
This looks delicious and delightful as expected. However, if you are making the version with the beaten egg whites, I probably would not have the bowl with the whites too close while you are beating the yolks with the sugar, as the electric whisk will send stuff flying everywhere. Ask me how I know...🙄
Looks so Delish!! I’m making it!! Ty! ❤
Instead of granulated sugar, I will often use marshmallow fluff. It helps give a rich custardy texture.
Thank you so much for this recipe! Have you heard of the Cuban Crema de Vie? Cuban eggnog. Yum 😋
I just ran out of store bought egg nog. Time to try! I can almost guarantee I won’t be going back to store bought after this 😍
Sorry in allergy to eggs thank you thou for sharing good luck I can only a little of it but that much . Happy holiday 🎄🎅🏻😍🙏🏻
thank you. if i choose to not make the egg white portion, can i use the stand mixer to beat the eggs and sugar and if so, which attachment please? thank you.
Merry Christmas son. Looks fabulous delicious 😋
Ok this looks easy. Definitely gonna have to try this the next time I go to the grocery store.
I want to make this recipe but I have to leave off the nutmeg (my husband hates the taste) but it will still be good!!
Looks good. I want to try
