  • Here is my video tribute to the GREATEST country singer who ever lived. I'm sorry that it took me so long to post something, I have been heartbroken over the loss of my hero. This is a video to show everyone just how important George Jones is. I have taken a few clips from various interviews, documentaries, awards shows and such. It is not my intent to infringe on anyone's copyrighted material. I will accept no money for the use of these clips. I simply wanted to honor my musical hero, and show the younger generation who George Jones is and what he means to country music. We miss you Possum!! George Glenn Jones (Sept 12th 1931- April 26th 2013)
    I bought a book a few years ago called "America's Music- The Roots of Country" and under every artists picture they listed a list of their accomplishments. Some singers had a whole page of accomplishments under their name... Under George Jones's picture there was only ONE short sentence... "Often cited as the greatest singer on earth" ...I think that sums it up pretty good!
    I claim no rights or ownership. I believe this constitutes a 'fair use' of any such copyrighted material as provided for in section 107 of the US Copyright Law. In accordance with Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107, the material here is distributed without profit to those who have expressed a prior interest in receiving the included information for research and educational purposes. My sole purpose in posting these "Classic Country" related videos is my own attempt to make the younger generation aware of these older artists and what they contributed to music. I will accept no profit, nor will I claim any ownership of material.

    There has only been 2 times that I broke down and cried when someone in the music industry died:
    Elvis Presley
    George Jones..............Just broke my heart and I felt like someone in MY family had died. The very reason I went into music myself and played it for 30 years out there was because of these two men.

    Thank you so much for doing this tribute to George Jones. I am 61 and grew up with almost every song this man sang, or recorded. I come from a musical western family and like so many have said George was like a uncle or brother in our family, and I was from Nebraska at that time, never met the man but sure loved his music, have learned the guitar because of this man.

      Thank you! As of this month he will have been gone 5 years now- that is so hard to believe... I know we all miss the old possum dearly. I think he knew how much the people loved him, BUT, I don't know that he ever truly understood why... He was uncomfortable talking about his own talent... he never thought he was that good. When people would praise him, he would point out that others were better, or just simply sit there uncomfortably sucking air through his teeth, fidgeting, putting his head down and so forth... I feel so bad about that. He truly was the best, and sadly the only person that didn't recognize it was Jones himself.

    I was 10 years old in 1970 when Dad told me he had recently
    discovered that George Jones was the greatest singer in the world. Since Pa was
    a professional musician I couldn’t doubt what he was telling me, but I had to
    understand why he said that. Ever since that day I have listened to every
    singer and tried to judge their talent and ability to hit notes and delivery phrasing.
    48 years later I have to say that Dad sure knew what he was talking about. I have yet to hear a single human being that could match the vocal talents of Mr. Jones.

      With all due respect.... Elvis Presley was the best singer to ever to pick up a microphone. Elvis could have been King just on his looks alone without singing a note. But the voice of Elvis Presley is truly the voice of a King. It's probably the single most recognized voice ever. And when it comes to singing and recording I don't think anybody was awarded more than Elvis. He's sold more records than anybody. And I don't think Elvis ever even wrote a single song. Which in a way I believe is a testimon to just how good of a singer he was. So with that being said I do love me some george jones & so I get it how so many people can single him out to be the best of all time I do get that & I can respect that. But I must say this... The king of country is Hank Williams

    • @beemerscoot8851
      @beemerscoot8851 3 года назад

      @@partysugar519 Ralph Emery once stated that 9 out every 10 professional performer he’s interviewed over the years have named George Jones as their favorite singer. A bunch of people have done a reasonable job of imitating Elvis and Hank but not one human being has ever come close to mimicking what George does. I could go on forever but unless you’ve tried to sing yourself, and attempted to do what they do, then you’ll probably never understand.

    • @partysugar519
      @partysugar519 3 года назад

      @@beemerscoot8851 Actually if you look up george jones cover songs you will find several unknowns covering george jones and sounding pretty close to just like him. Furthermore, I listened to Ralph Emery interview George jones and george jones himself said his biggest influence was indeed Hank Williams and Roy Acuff. But it was Hank Williams with the multiple unique up n down pitches n yodeling stuff he did with his voice that could not be mimicked. Even by his own son who became a great country singer in his own right. There's even a Hank Williams the 3rd that tries to sing his granddaddy's songs the same way but trust me even his grandson does not come close to sounding at all like the one and only Hank Williams. I wonder who has sold more records between Jones and Williams.... My money's on Williams. Even though hank died young and had a much shorter career than Jones, hanks probably still sold way more records and I betcha anything Hank Williams has had a far bigger impact on country music as far as being influenzial to future artist. I mean how can you call jones the king when basically he learned from Williams??? I'm pretty sure hank Williams has more hit songs than Jones? and Williams' career was way less than half as long as george jones. Did I mention not even Williams own next of kin can come close to sounding like the great one and only "Father" / "King" of country music??? I've even heard females that cover george jones pretty good. You'll never hear a female or a male for that matter come even half way close to sounding anything like hank williams. But you will find exactly that of george jones covers. My grandpa looks and sounds just exactly like george jones.... Hell even hank Williams very own son hank Jr doesn't look or sound anything like his own Father Hank Sr. So where we at now with this??? Maybe we should make a list of each of their biggest hit songs and see who had the better and most? Again my money's on hank but you gotta remember george had twice as long a career since Hank Williams life was tragically cut short at age 29. I think hank may of even still had more hit songs and even way more influence over country music as a whole than Jones could have possibly have had. I love george jones believe me I do. And as big and great and unique as george jones was. He wouldn't be the headliner if he and Williams were on tour together. No way jones would close the show after Williams think about it....

    • @beemerscoot8851
      @beemerscoot8851 3 года назад

      @@partysugar519 Well … I don’t know if you realize this but 99.99% of the people in this world are just as happy listening to a no-talent bum as they are a world-class singer. That’s simply because they don’t know the difference. Because you seem to believe that recording sales are an indication of a person’s talent, then I have to assume you fit that category. Shoot….Garth Brooks has made more money singing than anybody and on the talent scale he’s a mid-rank amateur at best.
      If you really want a challenge then I’m posting a link below to a Jones recording. I only ask that you listen to the ending, specifically the last 3 words. If you can find a recording of anyone that can come close to what George does here, send me your address and I’ll gladly send you a $100 dollar bill. I’ll tell you that my motives are not to prove you wrong, it’s just that I would gladly give anyone $100 that could point me to someone with that kind of talent. For your enjoyment, count all the notes he puts into the last 3 syllables and notice how each one is so “perfectly” on pitch. Good Luck!

    a great video. great tribute. George's fingerprint on this world can never be erased. the music is the best thats ever been recorded. When he sang a song, it was sung to its fullest. as a native to southeast Texas, its only natural that he would be my personal hero. thank you for this terrific video. and thank you for all the great music that you keep alive here on youtube. God bless George Jones!!

    George built his Jones' Country RV park right over my favorite deer hunting spot in Colmesneil Texas. I found another hunting spot but I'll never find another George Jones. There will never be another voice like the Possum's.

    Great Tribute! If My Heat Had Windows I would always have the Love Bug for George Jones. You see George, If Not For You I would be The Big Fool Of The Year. For you're not The Old Man No One Loves, instead you're The Real McCoy. Those Tender Years, when The Door sometimes slammed and The USA Today wrote stories about How You Aged 20 Yrs in 5 and If Drinkin' Didn't Kill You her Memory Will. But then you went Bone Dry and we could all say Old George Stopped Drinking Today. Yes we Always Got Lucky With You, and we became a Radio Lover, A People, and a Few Old Country Boys. There were days I wanted to Call A Wrecker For My Heart or Take The Grand Tour, or sometimes just give someone The Bird, but I always realized there would always be Heartaches and Hangovers until She Thinks I Still Care. All I can say is He Stopped Loving Her Today When The Grass grows over You. Good Bye George

    This is a great tribute piece. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet George & Nancy several times. And had to miss his concert here in chattanooga. Only way I would miss it, I was in the hospital most of March. George & my Aunt Vestal Goodman recorded together but better still, were dear close friends. I know they are making beautiful music together in Heaven'

    thank you so much for the beautiful video you put together of George Jones. I wish my dad was still alive to see it. When I think of George Jones, I always think of my dad who on coming back from from a near death illness (in the hospital) went to his stereo and played "He stopped loving her today" for my mom.

    I too was at work and a friend of mine called and passed on the terrible news. However, I didn't have to hide myself... I didn't cry until about 2 days after I heard the news... I was literally in shock... when the shock wore off the tears fell like rain.
