    My first jag was an x type 2.0D estate, loved the car that much I now also have an S type R for giggles, a jag convert for life and I'm only 27!

    I started off with an E type back in 1973 (family building in fairly quick succession put an end to that) 1982 had an XJ Daimler coupe (business venture put an end to that) 2022 bought an 06 X type 3.0 estate I’m slowly working through the niggles nothing serious, but in my opinion it’s a great car. Seeing the front of an X type at 300 yds you know it’s a Jag.

    and what about the transfer case being able to handle the extra HP and Torque? Ooops!

    I literally waited through the whole video to hear the engine. By the way, I have a 2008 X-type 2.0D and the engine is blown, as I had been pushing it through its limits everywhere. Now I have choices, either have all the issues with stock engine rectified or replace the engine altogether, but at the same time the costs make it seem not considered worth doing.
    So to actually make it interesting, I am considering a whole different engine, even a petrol engine to fit to the diesel ratio gearbox.
    What would fit?

    just bought a 2.5 v6 manual saloon as my first jag, i wanted a 3.0 but they are much rarer in manual and also very difficult to find at low mileages, luckily mine has the XS body kit and a lot of option extras so altogether I'm very pleased with the car, also with me only being 18 a 3.0 was almost £300 a month to insure compared to the 2.5 which was significantly less

    Nice car. Be good to have some numbers about it. Could be anything from 300-400 PS.
    The words “Gateway drug” had too many negative connotations for our friend there but I’m sure it’d be addictive to drive!

    But the transfer box can barely cope with the standard 3.0 engine, so it's not going to last long with a supercharged 3.0. And maybe that's why it wasn't put into production.

      There was an uprated transfer box planned

    • @thegearknob7161
      @thegearknob7161 3 года назад +5

      Yes, that's the reason. By the time the estate was made the transfer boxes were much better and weren't so much of a problem anymore, but they still wouldn't have taken 340hp very kindly.

      @@manjicake a little bit - it was not my main job but I did get involved late on trying to find a way to make a technically reasonable product and get it into production. Whilst I found a low investment route to make a (small) profit with a low volume production method the company decided it had "bigger fish to fry" and decided not to proceed. Real shame as a the car was a "hoot" to drive

    • @manjicake
      @manjicake 2 года назад +1

      @@martinjoyce8320 Ahh fair play. I’ve got the 3.0 sport in manual and love it, but I’m weary that any extra power mods will essentially tear the transfer box a new one in no time, and I can’t find any quality, worthwhile tried and tested ways around it. I agree it’s a shame that the company didn’t consider making an ‘R’ version

    yeah if i had 500k i would be hesitant if i should get XESV or that X-type, cuz everything is for sale depending on the price you offer :)
