It's paralyzing -- especially being in the audience watching it live. :) Any dev who gets to experience it, it will be the highlight of their career. You don't even need to win GOTY, just be in the GOTY orchestra and it's so good.
I'm a dev who worked on games that were part of the orchestras. It's a unique and surreal feeling of awe.

There's a particularly good cover of Saudade by the VGO. There's also very good sync ups for the original version with scenes from the remakes of RE2 and RE3

As a Finn, the Control bit always gives me chills and almost gets me to tear up. Seeing a Finnish game up for GOTY at the Game Awards and hearing it's music accompanied by a Finnish singer just feels like such a big moment to me, and likely to many Finnish gaming fans.

The vocalist for Control has an amazing deep epic voice. I got chills when he entered the stage like an opera singer. Good to see a fellow Scandinavian. He captivated the crowd with his dominating and commanding excellent singing performance. The orchestra is always so incredible at these events. Beautiful legendary compositions.

The first line literally translates to '' 'I once mistook a sea as a lake', he recited the poem'', which refers to Alan Wake's ''It's not a lake, It's an ocean'' line at the end.

I remember being in the crowd during this performance. Everyone was raving about how the Smash Ultimate portion was "the only one that matters", but in my opinion, the Control section was and still is my favorite. Absolute chills every time I hear the vocals on that singer
I've only played Smash out of all these but honestly EVERY ONE of these nominees had such great music, and yea the Control part was super super awesome!
I really liked the whole medley, but when the Death Stranding "BB's theme started" I almost cried.
I don't like the gameplay, but the story is amazing.

Yeah the story was curious at least, the Gameplay... well not bad but a little bit tedious sometimes cause of the rythm of It. But not a bad game, just not the Goty.
You can say whatever you want about the game, but those of us who made the "last delivery" will always feel something inside when BB's theme is playing.

I’m writing this roughly a week before the 2022 game awards and I can confidently say that this is one of the best GOTY orchestra performances ever. Every song transitions into the next one perfectly and just feels oh-so right, my personal favorites of those instances being the transitions into Lifelight for Smash Ultimate and Saudade for RE2
2019 was the best game awards. Best nominees, best performances, best reveals… and just a perfect way to send off the 2010s…

I can’t believe they didn’t capitalise on placing Doom Eternal next to Animal Crossing. Would’ve loved AC’s chill theme playing only for Doom Eternal to finish the medley by coming out of nowhere to blast the finale.

Somehow this year's orchestra felt so rushed and unremarkable. I look at this year and realise why. There's actual contrast, starting slow and magical with Outer Worlds and building up the tension with each game, finishing it with Resident Evil 2. Hopefully they reminisce and bring back the glory

This was one of the funniest things to me. Me and my friend are both Finnish, and started screaming when we heard the Sankarin Tango (the name of the song in Control). It mustve been so weird for the singer since probably absolutely nobody in the audience understood none of the lyrics HAHAH

I can’t lie BB’s Theme is one of the best or arguably the best song in gaming history. I’ve never ran into a person who doesn’t like the song. It’s musically a masterpiece. Death stranding was a good game just wish the gameplay had a little more to it, graphics and story were superb though.

Although I do have my doubts about TLOU2 releasing this year with its development issues.
Ridley I have a feeling it’s not gonna get on the list of GotY for 2020, given the controversy behind it with Sony, Naughty Dog, and the leaks for the ending. I have a feeling Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, and Cyberpunk 2077 are guaranteed to be part of the GotY lineup.

Toku . Re2 was good, but it went against sekiro which is a masterpiece. I was sad that there aren’t two awards for goty. If sekiro wasn’t there , then I would give it to re2.
Yeah Sekiro's combat and lore was just amazing. Me personally I feel like the difficulty in that game played a major factor as I was just too stubborn to stop and it always succeeded in me getting so immersed into the game.

For me atleast I would have been happier if dmc 5 won but that wasn't even a nominee. It should been there instead of control. Re2 still really good though
