  • Welcome to Door County Drone, Winter Layup 2023 is past us. Todays video is on the LNG Bukering Barges. Mainly focused on the first LNG Barge the Clean Canaveral with narration. Please stay tune to the end for actual video and photos of this State of the Art Vessel.
The Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge is a remarkable vessel built by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, in partnership with Polaris New Energy. This specialized vessel was designed to facilitate the transfer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from storage facilities to ships, and is the largest LNG bunker barge in the United States. The vessel was set to enter service in March 2022, and its launch represents a significant milestone in the development of the LNG bunkering industry.
The Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of LNG. The barge is equipped with a transfer system, vaporizer, and pump, all of which are designed to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of LNG. Additionally, the barge is outfitted with advanced navigation and communication systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
The construction of the Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge was a complex process that required careful planning and execution. The construction process began with the fabrication of the hull, which was made from high-strength steel plates that were cut, shaped, and welded together to form the basic structure of the vessel. The hull was then coated with a layer of anti-corrosion material to protect it from the harsh marine environment.
Once the hull was completed, the focus shifted to the installation of the LNG storage tanks. These tanks were carefully positioned and secured in place, with insulation and piping installed to maintain the LNG at the required temperature and pressure. The tanks were designed to hold up to 2,200 cubic meters of LNG each, which is enough to fuel several ships before needing to be refilled.
Next, the various systems and equipment needed to operate the barge were installed. This included a power generation system, navigation and communication systems, and the bunkering equipment itself. The bunkering equipment consisted of a transfer system, vaporizer, and pump, all of which were designed to safely transfer the LNG from the barge to the receiving vessel.
Throughout the construction process, rigorous quality control measures were in place to ensure that the barge met all necessary safety and environmental standards. This included extensive testing of the various systems and equipment, as well as a comprehensive inspection by regulatory authorities.
The Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge was built in partnership with Polaris New Energy, a company that specializes in providing sustainable energy solutions. The partnership between Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding and Polaris New Energy reflects the industry's growing commitment to cleaner and more sustainable fuel sources.
Once the Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge is completed and launched in March 2022, it will be delivered to its owner, TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, and begin operations in the port of Canaveral, Florida. The barge will play a critical role in facilitating the transition to LNG as a cleaner and more efficient fuel source for the maritime industry.
The Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge is a remarkable example of the innovation and expertise of the shipbuilding industry, and a testament to the growing demand for cleaner and more sustainable fuel sources. As the maritime industry continues to transition to LNG and other alternative fuels, we can expect to see more specialized vessels like the Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge being built in shipyards around the world. With its impressive capacity and cutting-edge technology, the Clean Canaveral LNG bunkering barge is poised to revolutionize the way that ships are fueled, and help to create a more sustainable future for the shipping industry.
