BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A Impressions

- After 10 months I figured it's time to talk about my impressions on the relatively new now, BFG Trail Terrain T/A all terrain tire. It's a more affordable, lighter duty cousin to the renowned KO2. It still carries the 3 peak severe winter rating and an impressive 60k mileage warranty. and in the last year (almost) it hasn't disappointed me in any way.
In my opinion it's a top contender for the light duty all terrain market and a fantastic choice for soft roaders who want to get out in the backcountry for a weekend outing. And contends with other AT tires such as the Falken Wildpeak AT trail, Nitto Nomad Grappler and General Grabber atx among others.
I purchased them through discount tire but they are also available on amazon in various sizes if you want to take them to a local shop to get mounted.

This is one of the best reviews I've seen. To the point and no stupid camera time
Thanks!
Great review and thank you! It’s been hard to find the perfect review, for me it was the sand part and it got me sold to get these. Thank you again and you got me as a subscriber.
Love the build I have an 02 that I’m doing a 3 inch lift on this week with a lunch box locker and manual hub conversion.
Specifically what I was looking for, man , you rock
This review is unbelievable and is the best review about a brand of tires I have ever watched .
Now, because of you, I'll be able to get myself a set of these tires .
Thank you for the sand review, I was most interested in that with these tires. 👍
Thank you for the video! I enjoyed it. I have these tires on my Ram truck, and I have really enjoyed these tires. I agree they have been great on dry roads, wet roads, gravel, and fairly well in mud. I really have not tested them in snow, as we very rarely get snow here.
I put these on my ran 1500 and live up in Canada. These tires work very well in the snow. I have 30,000 km on them now and the tire wear is nice. I don’t tow anything with this truck but I find them soft and under hard acceleration’s you can hear the rubber grabbing the road. If you tow I would not recommend these tires but for everything else yes.
Ian glad to hear you get it! Long footprint and not wide
Man... I really enjoyed this review. What a great find. Really amazing
I appreciate this video. I'm going to find some 16×6 wheels for my 94 Suzuki Sidekick, and fitting some 215/65r16 of this tire. From your picture, it looks like we are both proud owners of a weimaraner as well.
Stumbled upon your video looking up these tires and I'm glad I did. Great video! I thought I recognized some of the areas you were in and then you mentioned you were oregon lol
Just ordered a full set for my 4runner.....look Forward to trying them out!!
Ive been on the fence between falken AT trail or these ones and your video was doing so well at convincing me for the trail terrain. Then you added that last line about the falken 😂
This was a great review ! Slapping these in my Outback Wilderness soon!
Look at that little guy flex at 3:18, that's awesome! Funny you mention the wildpeaks, I'm looking for some AT tires for my half-ton and considered these BFG's over the reg KO2's because I want to keep away from stepping up to an E-rated tire and the wildpeaks were my thought in between these and the KO's. 90% of my driving will be on-road, but like you I'm in a climate that actually has weather so I need it to work in all seasons. Would also like to not have to turn 4wd on if I get on wet grass though like the stock little highway tires.
I have wildpeaks on mine and love them.
Great review! I am a western Washingtonian who drives his XC90 on exactly the same terrain you tested in. Most of the AT tire testers are more rock/desert terrain but I am beach, dunes, mountain trails and snow. Bummed that the KO2 doesn't come in my size but the new BFG looks like the perfect option.
Very good real life review, thanks buddy!
I have a set of these on my 18 Silverado 1500 and I really like them. I've had them for about a year now, and I'm very happy with them. Treadwear is great, noise is great, and traction is great.
I have an '11 Sierra 1500 2wd and looking at these BFGs. How are these tires in the wet? How about snow?
this video is awsesome, I wish I could go to the places u went in my Jeep TJ with its K02's
Nice overview 👍
oregon looks beautiful!
Thank you for the info
Sweet ride! I have seen multiple reviewers complain about the wet pavement performance due to the lack of siping in the tire's shoulder area. So water cannot escape from the main channels... leaning to the Wildpeak Trail for this reason alone.
Great review! Choosing between these or the geolander at for my outback.
excellent review. thanks
I just swapped out 315/70r17 KO2 for these in a 285. Massive difference in weight and noise reduction. Handles great.
Well put ! Thanks
Great video and good points ..
Thanks for the good review. I inherited a 2wd 96 Silverado.
Have ko2s on my 4runner love those. But for a 2wd truck I suspect these trail tires will work well for what I need em for. Thanks again.
I wish they would make these in a 285/75r16 because I run 33s on my f150. (No lift but 4x4 package) and I love the look of these and I don't do so much offloading as I used to. But they do make them in a 32' so I'll look into it
Actually you did just about the same testing for 3 peak rating that is required for that rating. 3 peak only tests going forward, that's it. They don't test braking, or cornering. Which is why if you're going to be in the mountains a lot you better get dedicated snow tires. I'm going to get these for summer driving, and for the shoulder seasons for early and late season skiing, but I also have the Blizzaks for real winter weather. It makes a HUGE difference on my Bronco Sport BL.
Thanks for the review, these tires are equipped on my 2023 Kia Sportage X-Pro. That trim is for light off road experiences. Good job Kia & BF Goodrich. 👍🏾
hey bud thanks to you and your video from before I picked myself a grand Vitara mk3 2.4 2014, it's a great car, getting my tires soon. I'm going for general grabbers at3s. I'm only 20 and live in the UK, it's expensive on insurance but fuck it really. great video
Sounds awesome! Have fun with it 👍👍
I came across this tires as they are available in costco, have had ko2s on my previous truck, they are pretty good but fuel economy suffers, this round I’m looking for a middle ground, the factory Michelin are just too bad on the snow
I live in northern Minnesota and they do great in snow.
Thank you for the info. I bought these for this winter and it ended up being about tied for the least snowiest winter of my life here in PA. I had one 3" snowfall that I got to test them in, and it was only on my hilltop (was wet at the bottom) so I got to test them for literally 1 mile lol. In that 1 mile, they did seem to grip better than the all seasons I used to have, but the experience was, limited.....
wat about in ice?

I did a full winter here in Salt Lake City, Utah and I honestly did not find these tires to be sufficient. The starting and stopping was fine, but the lateral grip is seriously lacking. I ski 1-4 days a week, so this was a pretty big deal. If you’re looking for a good A/T tire in the snow I would probably look towards the Falken Wildpeak because of the outer edge design of the tire and it’s ability to sipe snow. Other than that, this is a pretty great tire!
Good one
many thanks for your feedback. Thanks to you i dscovered i guess the best tire for me. This apart does your viara has a OEM locking diff? or just low gears ratio and l frame chassis? Thanks!
Hi, one question, ¿what's the pressure that you recomeend for the tyres in the case of the sand?, I saw in different blogs that its neccesary use 10 or 12 psi, ¿Are you agree?
Hello, can you please comment the sidewall thickness compared to KO2? Are they as stiff and meaty? thanks!
Good review and thanks for getting right to it! Saw that you were able to spend time on the Nomad Grapplers, as well. How do the two compare and which would you choose? Thanks
Well, I only had one afternoon on the nomad grapplers. But I think I would go with the BFG’s simply cause The Nomads were noisy.
@@DonnieDispersed Good to know! Thanks for the feedback.
Still feel the same after a year?? Wondering what your impressions are currently + whats the tire mileage?
Appreciate the no bullshit.
Jaka jest głębokość bieżnika w nowej oponie?
KO2 miało 12mm i bardzo trwały skład mieszanki.
Nice job! What's you opinion between the BFG Trail Terrain vs the General Grabber AT3?
Don’t have any experience with the grabber, though I’ve considered them a few times.
If you are going to do any off roading ? Do not buy the trail Terrains…
I live on a hillside Coffee farm ( Hawaii). My wife car is a Jeep Compass Trailhawk…we added these BFG Trail Terrains…at first I thought the Jeep compass 4x4 was not effective…tires worn out after 10,000 miles, we were slipping and sliding going up the hill…especially raining days..
Once we replace with BFG KO2s …”Wow” ..huge difference…we rarely slip and slide…tons more traction.!
If you are going to do any off roading ? Stay away from the Trail terrains and go with the BFG KO2 or KO3 ..both offer the same mileage warranty..yet the KO2 will offer better traction!
Note we have Tundra 4x4 and TRD Tacoma both with BFG KO2s…no problems…
Ive been thinking about these for my 2017 Grand cherokee. I generally always run KO2's but i dont like how they fling rocks. Mostly concerned with snow performance as well as light mud and some sand...think id be ok with these? Or should i just got KO2?
Go for the KO2 the real thing, I have them on my 2020 RAV4 and they are amazing , that’s why all tires review compare them…
@@ZMOA2006 Ive always ran the KO/KO2s on my pickups and have never had an issue...maybe ill just stick with the?
Is that where the Goonies was filmed? Sure looked like it.
Little farther south
What do you think about putting these on a Dodge Caravan
Go for it if they fit 👍
greetings from pontassieve province of Florence Italy I was looking for the original bf goodrich ko 2 in size 205-70-15 and this model does not exist in this size for my Suzuki jimny 4x4 with m13a petrol engine year 2001 1.3 lt petrol and I opted for a set of Hankook dynapro atf rf 10 205-70-15 m+s tires and I have a set of retreaded mud tires from the Italian brand ziarelli and the ziarelli tire model is called mud power and is always in size 205-70-15 m +s !
Mpg?
I have a 2020 Jeep Compass Trailhawk and put ona set of Trail Terrain…I am very disappointed!
Use on a 4x4 Coffee land ( hillside).. NO traction but could be the AWL system on the Jeep Compass..?
I also own 4x4 TRD Tacoma, and a 4x4 Tundra both with BFGs A/T…buy these instead.
Here is my thoughts Trail Terrain 99% for highways and 1% light off roads..
But I lose too much traction even when dry ..worst on rainy times..
Did you air down for the snow?
ABS offroad is a disadvantage
Reviews by professional tyre review teams suggest that it's poor in wet weather handling and braking on road, significantly worse than the wildpeak etc. I expect this of the k02 but it seems this is maybe too much of a poor road tyre and less of a good offroad tyre.
these tires are complete trash on wet pavement. I went from yoko geolander AT015s which were amazing in all illinois weather on my v6 jeep cherokee KL. Never broke traction with the yokos, have broken traction multiple times in the first 3 months of having the trail terrains.
In your opinion how are the Geolanders for MPG?
@@MrFordguy73 slightly worse than stock, but not super noticeable. On long trips up to northern wisconsin i'd average 26-28 mpg. in winter expect that to go down to low 20s. no noticable difference while towing my snowmobile in winter either, still low 20s.
Awd is better then 4wd
