I always believed this is by far one of the best songs AIC ever recorded, I will never forget the very first time I've ever heard Rotten Apple, I was a young teenager about to finish High School, a buddy of mine would pass me Jar of Flies and I waited anxious until I got home, I put the cd on the player loud and it just blew my mind, now I've got 29 and still amazes me as the first time!!! I think the best part of a song like this not having a music video is that your mind can interpret it however the song hits you. This song has such a dark yet deep impact. It’s like a man realizing his end and the madness/misery around him. At least that’s how I interpret it. I just discovered AIC last year and man, these guys are the reason I fell in love with grunge and I just keep discovering more hits by them. This one hits deep And I’m an inner city kid from NYC. That’s how powerful and widespread their music is. Bet Layne and AIC never thought their music would reach and speak to so many years later
Really cool interpretation. The song was written by Jerry Cantrell (lead guitarist for newcomers) and is actually about emotional betrayal. The lyrics are incredibly dark in their own respect. Hands down one of the toughest songs to listen to once you have a grasp of its meaning.
He was in actually pretty good condition here compared to later years. I think he was just about to relapse here, I know that he was clean for a majority of '93. He had gained weight, seemed more lively in interviews, played with numerous other bands, and even wore suits on stage because he had gained weight lol. Here, I'm not too sure whether he had already relapsed or not. But I know that he relapsed sometime at the end of '93.
i dont think enough is ever said about how inez came in under stressful conditions and has killed it ever since. arguably the best rock bassist out there.
This song is absurdly powerful. The dissonance of the chorus cuts through the slow melodic pace like a knife to the heart. Seldom do you hear music with such emotional grounding.
