  • New unseen footage of the first two songs of Alice in Chains' opening set for KiSS on June 28, 1996. Both songs, "Again" & "God Am", have cuts - all the footage I have is in this RUclips video. It's likely this is all that was filmed (at least by this cameraman). Assume this was filmed to be used for television news segments/promotional purposes.
I opted not to patch the missing minute of "Again" w/ just audio, but did patch the end of "God Am" (after the footage cuts off) with complete circulating audience audio. I overlayed some pre-show footage of the crowd/venue to cover the end section for the remainder of "God Am". Also used a short ~10sec clip of a different song (shot from backstage) that was posted by @livefilms1099 elsewhere on RUclips. The audio does have some feedback at times - that is on the source.
Hopefully enjoyable to some in spite of being only a couple incomplete songs.
    Happy Holidays and all that....

    00:36 Again*
    03:30 God Am (Live deubt)**

    ** - (End is cut / Audio complete + pre-show crowd/stadium footage)

So dumb. We knew what we were watching. We’d travel five hours or fly to Seattle back in 91’. Because we were watching a religious experience. Something that kids don’t know about. I saw nirvana three times and it was amazing. The power Kurt could harness was like a super human. Layne was such a crack addict. Poor dude.

As difficult as it might be for a lot of AIC fans to listen to Layne in this state, so unfortunately unhealthy, I always think this way while listening to Layne in 1995-96: If he was a lead singer of some indie/alt band, his voice, even how it was, would have been an incredible addition, no, would've made said band.
In other words, even at his worst professionally, Layne would have been ANYONE'S lead singer and would have taken them to new heights. That's how freaking good he was.

8 years ago, I was in a really dark place with little hope. These records along with Nancy Staley’s frank remarks about her son’s death definitely helped save my life. I saw where I was headed having lost 40% of my weight and I just couldn’t bear the thought of making my mom go through something like that.

Man, seeing what's been done to and for Bam Margera in recent years, I firmly believe that's what needed to be done with Layne. He needed to be forcibly snatched up, arrested (and yes, charged with drug & paraphernalia possession and maybe had time in jail & pay a fine) and court ordered to get fucking clean and live in a sober living situation for at least 2 years before he'd be legally allowed back out into the public, as well as be placed under a financial conservatorship by his mother until he improved drastically. Alice in Chains would have had one hell of a comeback album after their self-titled album. I've always thought that 1996 was definitely the final year that his body could have been helped and brought back to normal health. He was only 2 months from turning 29 years old here. He had so much more potential. Adult Proctective Services should have been called. Layne needed to have his ass kicked in such a harsh, but fair way to set him on the straight and narrow, but no, everyone just left him alone to his own devices and look what happened to him. He was allowed to just sit around and waste his and everyone else's time for 7 years until he literally withered away and died as a 6' 1" - 86 lb grown man where his body wasn't even found for 2 pathetic weeks.

it was a pretty cool experience! subsequently, I've never seen a game at Comerica Park.
I think the Eagles were the first ones to start playing concerts at Tiger Stadium a couple of years prior to this in 1994. They may have had rock concerts there in the 1960's and 1970's, I don't know. I know that before the Silverdome was built in the mid 1970's, the Detroit Lions played their football games at Tiger Stadium.
When they tore the Stadium down, it really sad to see.
I would have love to have gone to this show, not because I'm a KISS fan (I'm not really a big fan of theirs) but for the opening act of AIC! I know that KISS used The Smashing Pumpkins on this same tour to open their shows at Dodger Stadium in LA.
I don't know if AIC were meant to be their opener for the whole tour or not or if Layne's condition caused them to drop out and have the Pumpkins added as a substitute.

Never, ever thought I'd see footage of such a quality from my personal favourite of all AIC album cycles (albeit the most tragically bittersweet one, between the incredible impact of the self titled albums songs/lyrics, especially God Am, and Layne's poor health) !!

This footage is pure GOLD, thanks for sharing this💗💗 Wow God Am sounds SO MUCH better live, that song needs a remixing to bring out the powerful vocals of Layne and Jerry's guitar throughout the song 👌

It really does. I got the tripod Album recently (listening to aic for quite some time but it was missing in my collection)and was kinda surprised how inferior it sounds on there. Frogs and sludge factory Sound great though. Very different from unplugged, which I also love, but not in a bad way. Overall it's a great Album. Its absolutely amazing though how good Layne sounded live. Theres nobody in that Genre that comes close imo.

@@KroD313 yes sir! I am as well. Im happy to have been lucky to see lots of shows in the 90’s. However I wish I was my Parents age and was a teenage or early 20’s kid in the 60’s. I was lucky to have been at this show though but had no idea how historic that tour would be as far as Alice being the OFG line up. I remember watching the whole set from the right side of the stage but way up in the nose bleeds. I didn’t even really consider myself a kiss fan but I liked Alice In Chains. Kiss pit on a good show though. Kiss had these platforms on these crane arm looking things and they stretched out over the audience. Paul smashed his guitar at that end of the last note that rang out.

I was at this show. It was a return show for KISS....returning the Detroit Rock City with the original lineup in full makeup. The crazy thing is there were a shit ton of people dressed up for AIC.....Layne Staley look alikes all around....for sure. It was almost more of dual bill once AIC joined the show. Definintely alot of people there just for them. The set was short but I always wanted more AIC, so it would have been short regardless in my opinion. Thanks for sharing this.....its a total blast from the past and a hard look at an amazing artists last run....
