“Is this my pale little elve, is this my mustard seed”. Why can’t a man call me that? Also I LOVE that he is so breathless all the time and breathes really heavily! Urgh he is so gorgeous!
I am struck by the attention to detail in this version. In the book, Jane wears a "lilac gingham" dress the day after Rochester's proposal, and that is exactly what she's wearing in this scene. The dress as Brontë envisioned reflects Jane's liberation from her cold, solemn, friendless self, being so different from the usual black and grey that readers picture Jane in.
The dramatist stuck to every detail; however, the wardrobe mistress, Gill Hardie must have had Timothy wrapped around her little finger. She's the one who did the incredible costumes. His in particular because she had so much green to bring out those sparkling green emerald orbs.
I know right? One of the reasons I can't stop rewatching this version. It's such a close and true adaptation that it makes my heart tremble and ache with the love I have for this story. ❤
I know they were trying to be very true to the book and include practically everything, but they *might* have considered leaving that one line out.. :)
Considering how short Zelah Clark is next to him, this Jane might not consider him handsome. The way she becomes interested in him to begin with is through her conversations with him--that's the way he appeals to her in the book as well as in this series.
You're right; especially when the novel has him as a tyrant. Fassbender shouldn't have attempted this part and it was horrible to have George C Scott do him in 1970. Susannah York was Jane? The only good part was that John Williams (Star Wars) did the music.
But for the time period he was not. That version of "Tall Dark and Handsome" that we espouse now did not exist back then. Men were supposed to be slightly portly, blonde, pale and "foppish" to be attractive... and always smiling. Think of Mr. Bingley in Pride and Prejudice as an example of what was considered really "hot" back then. Even in Gone With the Wind... Ashley was to be the "hot" one all pale and blonde.
At that point, Jane considered Mr. Rochester as handsome but she chose not to admit it to him by joking that he's not. She was capable to crack a joke when she's in a good mood.
Some people think this version is too stiff, but scenes like this are why I disagree. So cute lol. The lines are just more true to the book than other version, so can make this version seem more archaic.
Some people judge an adaptation based on graphics only which is unfair. The 1983 version is still great because they follow the source material much. It was aired at the time video cameras were less advanced compare these days.
Damn it! I really did it, didn't I? Well, sorry. I knew it's "Dalton", but I didn't check how I had written it right before uploading the video. And thank you for your compliments! :3
This is everything I wanted BBC's Pride & Prejudice to be minus the production value. Obviously it's two different stories and Rochester and Darcy are two different characters but still.
Did you like the 2005 P&P then? Austen's characters behaving like they were written by one of the Brontës. Not my cup of tea but lots of people like this romanticized version.
@@zuzanka1981 Well, the only thing I did like was the freer expression of affection but I thought everything else about it was horrid. 1995 is really the only version for me, just wish it had a tinge more warmth between D&E than just looks.
It's a shame her wardrobe had to be so ugly. It was necessary I know, but next to his magnificent green eyes in that green coat, black hair and chiseled face, she is so plain.
Then the production team did their job correctly - Jane is supposed to be plain and dressed very simply. When she refers to her 'Quakerish' clothes, that doesn't mean they are poor quality or ugly, just that they are made with little or no adornment.
Even this dress?? I love her clothes, except the dark colours, because of the silhouette. The 1840s silhouette is very beautiful and flattering. I read somewhere that while this part of JE actually takes place in the 1830s, they usually move the adaptations forward a decade because the fashion is prettier.

Thank you so much for putting out this timestamp ❤ I manifest to be carried up and called like that one day!
Her little run with her arms ready for an embrace🥺🤧
I love his voice, the way he rolls his r’s and that deep breathiness.
Ahhh...yes! I truly agree....as do millions! ( This is one of the Actor Timothy Dalton's best Roles!)
That "breathiness" he brings with him to all his roles. It's very well-used.
"You are a beauty in my eyes" - beautiful ❤

It amuses me that the likes of Timothy Dalton, Toby Stephens and Michael Fassbender are passing for unattractive in these adaptations.
I know they were trying to be very true to the book and include practically everything, but they *might* have considered leaving that one line out.. :)
Zed Flower Dalton really doesn't fit the "not handsome" role.

Oh, I love Jane. Amazing young woman.
Oh, how the first seconds fly and the cheesiness of Rochester adoring Jane is making me smile like an idiot. I love it! XD
Join the club and take a turn. ;-)
It's completely cheesy and somehow I love it.
I don’t even think it’s cheesy
"As if you were handsome". She just straight up told him he looked busted.
But she loves him dearly😊

Definitely.
I love this version but Toby Stephens has my heart
The way he moves and walks is exactly right!

I think she prefers Pierce Brosnan 😅.
And she said it to the most beautiful man in the world 😂🥹

Cute? Drop dead gorgeous, hunk of a man, etc. and anything else that I can include.
Amen! He is the best Edward Fairfax Rochester written as Charlotte Bronte would have him portrayed.
Agreed!!!
One of my favourite if not all of the scenes. He says my name aka Janet and I giggle for hours. Thanks! Janet Thompson Deaver
