Is drinking alcohol a sin? That’s what we’re going to talk about today.
Alright so this question comes up ALL the time. “Is it a sin to drink alcohol?” To answer this question people tend to go to one of two extremes. Either they will say, “A Christian should not drink wine under ANY circumstances.” Or they will say, “it’s not a sin; I can drink as much as I want as long as I don’t get drunk.” But what does the Bible have to say about this?
The quick answer to that is NO. (SCREEN: Wine is like money: Neither are inherently evil but it’s how you use it or abuse it that matters)
Interestingly enough the Bible has a lot of positive things to say about the use of wine.
    1. Celebration - Jesus drank wine with His disciples but He made wine from scratch - Mt. 11:19; Lk. 7:34 - So if it’s a sin then Jesus sinned and caused a whole bunch of other people to sin. (they actually accused Him of being a drunkard)
    2. Enjoyment - Wine was created by God simply to be enjoyed - Eccl. 9:7 (read with emphasis)
    3. Wine was used for communion (represents Jesus’ blood - some use grape juice others use actual wine) - (see 1 Cor. 11:21) - So if it was a sin that means we could potentially sin each time we take communion.
BUT, there are times when it may not be wise to drink. The Bible says, “All things are permitted but not all things are profitable. Let me suggest to you 3 questions to ask yourself before you drink.
1 Cor. “All things are permitted but not all things are profitable.”
    1. Will this damage my Christian image?
    a. Non-believers - 1 Pet. 2:12 - “Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors…” Could my drinking in public cause other non-Christians to get the wrong impression about my lifestyle? People are looking for any reason to say, “You Christians are hypocritical! There’s no difference between you and me!” And so…
    b. Even though you are drinking in moderation it could be perceived that you are getting drunk which sends the message that you are no better than them.
    c. We must always be aware that we are a representation of Christ and Christianity
    2. Will this encourage someone else to sin? Paul says in 1 Cor. 8:13, “I know I have the personal freedom to eat meat. But if I’m around someone who’s conscience convicts them about eating meat then out of respect for them I’ll refrain from eating meat.”
    a. Let’s say you’re out with your friends…
    b. Believers - Could believers who look to me for their example stumble into sin? You’d be surprised how many people look up to us and pattern their lives after watching ours. 1 Cor. 8. Let’s say you’re at a party and you’re drinking and someone with you who used to struggle with alcohol sees you drinking a lot. Because they look up to you they will see that as acceptable behavior and then may end up drinking too much because it’s a struggle for them. So out of respect for them, you refrain from drinking in that situation.
    c. Are you causing someone else to stumble because they are watching you?
    3. Is this becoming an addiction? “…even though I am allowed to do anything I will not become a slave to anything.” (explain this…)
    a. But…when you get to the point where you can’t go very long without it…
    b. Every time you go out you HAVE to have that wine or that beer…
    c. You start to use this as a way of escape…It could be the early signs of an addiction.
    d. (If you can’t drink in moderation it destroys blood vessels and brain cells.)
So, can a Christian drink alcohol? The quick answer to this question is NO! There is no scripture in the Bible that prohibits drinking but it does teach that getting drunk is a sin (Eph. 5:18). These questions can be applied to a list of questionable activities. Use wisdom as to when you should or shouldn’t drink.

Teisha Misunderstood - Agreed. "filled" with the Holy Spirit is to be CONTROLLED by the Spirit of God. Alcoholic based drinks will CONTROL us with the first drink by slowing the reflexes at first. Increasing appetite for more food. Then lowering our inhibitions to lose Godly self control, leading to unchristian regrettable acts and speech. Some Christians may become addicted to the alcohol based drinks. Because alcohol is a drug.

Eating isnt bad but if you over eat it becomes gluttony which is a sin. Drinking isn't a sin unless you over drink or you start getting dependant on it as an addiction. That's complete truth of bible. Most Christians just feel it's better to not drink at all to make sure you don't ever become drunk or get addicted. While that's true also it's not biblical either. But that's like saying it's better not to eat cause if you do you have the chance to over eat or become addicted to eating. It's a personal conviction for each individual that God personally handles amongst each Christian. God doesn't convict me not to drink cause I've never had a problem with it controlling me but another Christian might be a recovered addict or God knows they will become one if they do so he convicts them not to & they should obey. But we can't preach drinking as wrong and against God when the bible doesn't support that. If God convicts me I will simply stop it altogether. But as of now I might drink once or twice a year and that's one glass of wine each time or one bottle of a wine cooler or like a Smirnoff ice strawberry or grape or something considered in the wine category. I personally have a conviction that pure alcohol shots or beer is wrong and not in the category as wine used as a meal celebration. To me it's more for drunks or parties. But that's my personal conviction cause it doesn't look right.
Oh and you can drink the right way and also be filled with the spirit. So don't get that confused that someone who doesn't drink can be and someone who does can't. No scripture for that. However you can't be a drunk and also filled with the spirit.

      i replied:
      Hello Sir,
Unfortunately ill have to disagree with a your fact that Christians can drink alcohol...if it's in MODERATION. Let's be real for 1 sec. The mentality of a Christian drinking in moderation no less than: A Christian going to a strip club and saying "i will not commit the lust of the eye, i will only look at the stripper's face and not their sexually persuasive half-naked bodies". Christians SHOULD NOT FLIRT WITH SIN and say "i know myself and i can handle my restrictions"
In easier terms: you don't go take a selfie in a lion's den and say "i will run out if the lion walks towards me" You just DO NoT GO INTO THE LION'S DEN IN THE FIRST PLACE- It is the Lion's job/nature to eat meat...you are meat. Thus, IT IS SIN'S JOB TO EAT YOU....STAY AWAY FROM SIN and/or ANYTHING THAT WILL LEAD YOU TO SIN
Jesus did not create Alcoholic wine/fermented wine. The wine he created was fresh. Jesus never sinned, He would not drink alcohol and God gives us these scriptures:
1Tim 5:23 "No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities.
" for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities.
It doesnt say ...FOR RECREATIONAL USE...or for FUN etc.

      * Eph 5:18 "And DO NOT be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, ... "
      * Prov 20:1 "Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it IS NOT WISE."
      * Gal 5:19-21 "19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: [a]adultery, [b]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, [c]murders, DRUNKENNESS, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."
We are all learning here, so please tell us from these scriptures: Did God REALLY create alcohol to be enjoyed? Or should i get more scriptures?
      Thank you
      Kind Regards

The people at that wedding would have already been drunk so if Jesus turned it into alcoholic wine then wouldn't he be getting drunk people more drunk? Drunkenness is definitely a sin and knowingly causing someone to stumble into sin is also a sin. That why I don't think that particular time is applicable. Jesus wouldn't have given them something he knew would cause them to further sin. If you want to make an argument for something that has a very slippery slope then go for it but I I don't think that particular scripture is good to support that idea.

I struggled with alcohol for the longest time (over 20 years). I can’t count the times I told myself “Today is the day I’m going to quit…” and as soon as 5 O’Clock rolled around and my obligations for the day (work) were done, that nag in the back of my head would kick in and I would always find some excuse to indulge it. If I tried to quit, I’d get maybe 2-3 days and it was just like a powder keg waiting until I finally gave myself an excuse. I prayed for god to lift that nag and it just happened. It’s the weirdest thing. I’d never been the saltiest believer. I felt miracles were kind of wishful thinking. I never had a plan to quit this last time, in fact I hadn’t planned it at all. I just vaguely aware it was something that had to be done, kind of like I always have. One day, I just woke up, and the urge was gone.

I see all of these posts and it is crystal clear that people are going by their emotions rather than the Bible. There is absolutely no mention of responsible
    - Ephesians 5:18 - "18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;" Clearly it says be not drunk where it is too much. Not responsible casual drink with a meal
    - Jesus turned water into wine and if you keep reading it says and when the people are well drunk. Meaning it was clear that the wine Jesus made was alcaholic and not just grapes.
    - 1 Timothy 3:3 - "not given to excesses from wine, not a striker, but mild, not addicted to contention, not fond of money," Once again we see a theme here. EXCESS!
    - 1 Timothy 5:23 "23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses." Here we see alcahol being used as a type of relief. and once again he says "a little."
    - Ecclesiastes 9:7 - "7 Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do."
    - Proverbs 31:4 - "It is not for kings, O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Or for rulers to desire strong drink," This scripture was written by King Solomon's mom. Once again when reading in context it is referring to leadership and given to too much wine.
    - Did Jesus drink wine...well see Matthew 11:19 - "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.' But wisdom is proved right by her deeds." What you are saying in these posts is what the Pharasese and Saducees were saying in Jesus time. Look at him...He's drinking wine....No Christian should ever drink wine and what was Jesus response: Use Wisdom to judge the deeds...You guys are not using wisdom to judge the deeds.
If these scriptures don't answer your questions, then you are just hearing what you want to hear, because it is unfathomable for you to believe a blood washed Christian with the Holy Spirit inside to be responsible. You are teaching based on experience and emotions and not the true word of God.

Hey Allen, my pastor once explained that the wine they drank back then was way watered down. The alcohol we have today would be considered strong drink to them, which the Bible says to avoid. They would have had to drink their wine all day long to get drunk.
My policy has always been abstinence, due to the fact that it's the wisest thing.

Your Pastor is correct .. u should STAY away from all appearances of sin ... wine is not the same now as it was , there were multiple kinds of wine ... most that was taken was fruit smashed and drank ... some would take it and put it in cold streams for week or more till fermentation took place ... if it was ok , then why did the levitcal priests have to abstain from it ?? They didnt even eat corn , which was used to make strong drink ... imagine your pastor going to a liquor store and buying wine for communion?? What would people think ... not saying they are correct ,but is his witness damaged?? The scripture tells us to be separate from the world , we are different... they didnt have sweet tea or koolaid or coke a cola back then , and the water was tainted from sewage and bacteria .. so context is key ... people say not to be drunk ... so when they drank wine it was to wash the food down ... if u drink because u just want to , I'd ask myself why ? When we have been blessed with many other options that wont hinder your walk or judgement ... so brother Alan, I love u , and agree with most of what u teach , this my friend I do not ... why would we even think to bring temptation to our lips ? We need to make sure our witness stays in tact and that we ARE diffrent from this world ... if we choose to drink , what makes us to the unbeliever any diffrent than themselves ?

Three questions we must ask ourselves before drinking:
    1) will this damage my Christian image? (Remember that ‘Every time you leave your home, you're representing Christ to the world’)
    2) will my drinking encourage someone else to sin?
    3) Is my drinking becoming an addiction? (3 Signs: can’t go long without it, you have to have it when you go out and/or you use it to escape reality)

I think and believe that it is not a Criteria to judge heaven.
      Cause we believe in this.
      { We were your allies in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And you will have therein whatever your souls desire, and you will have therein whatever you request [or wish] }
So if you request to have a million cats in your heavenly garden, I will not say isn’t that weird because that what you desire.
This what you talk about is a Hadith,
this particular Hadith is weak because it had many other Hadiths that says otherwise.
      Such as
There is which say you will have 2 and their is Hadith tells you will have 5000 and there is the one you are talking about is talking about 72.
Me as a muslim I think by my brain First then believe and not believe everything.
I only truly and fully believe in the Holy Quran. Other things and Hadith may have many contradictions.
      { Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction. }
Anything have a contradiction in it, know for sure it is not from God.
So in the End, as of my own belief Quran is the base of Islam and Hadith is just an explanation for it. Could be wrong and could be correct.
May god guide us all to the right path.

First of all this verse is talking about Resurrection day, and they will be like the angels which is in heaven.
Heaven It is not about sex, it about what you desire.
you will get what you have ever wished for, anything!! You could be an angel if you want.
That is a promise of God.
And secondly I do believe that the Bible is a corrupted truth, base on the contradictions it had.

    • @seethelight657
      @seethelight657 2 года назад

      @Luiz
That is my belief from my Islamic Perspective.
Why there is a judgment day in your thinking?
A group in fire and a group in heaven.
First of all god is all affluent and doesn’t need our worshiping.
He created the angels for a purpose, to obey his commands, the small and the big.
He created humans for a purpose, to have a full free will to obey or disobey god and he puts instructions in earth, such as only sex in marriage, no drinking alcohol, do good, don’t steal, etc
but as a result there is punishment for disobeying and a reward for obedience and doing good.
Life is all suffering, tiredness, even following laws is so hard for a human and he always tend to follow desires, and humans always tend to live longer.
So as a result, he would reward us for obeying him. With eternal and whatever you desire heaven.
As we say, this life is the heaven of the disbelievers and the prison of the believer.
I really recall to you to worship the one true god without parents.
      Cause, Surah Almaadh [ 71 - 74 ]
      71 - { They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. }
      72 - { They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. }
      73 - { So will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. }
      74 - { The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded. }

Take medication for anxiety or depression is not the same thing as drinking wine with alcohol in it. We can take an inch and turn it into a mile. You have to think with good common sense. Anxiety meds or depression meds... Most of those allow you to function in a normal capacity supposedly. But if you drink too much wine with the alcohol that is in it today if you have an addictive personality you can get addicted to it so it's not a good idea to drink it if you're a christian. And even if Jesus drank wine it was a different type of wine back then. It wasn't full of the alcohol that the world made. Or enhanced since the Bible days. Even if someone takes a pain pill, they do have to be very careful because they can become addictive. Some people have addictive personality some people don't. But you cannot compare medicine for mental illness the same as straight out alcohol! You have to make it make sense. God gives us common sense. He also gives us wisdom knowledge and understanding if we ask for it. But if we don't ask for it we are just as dumb as a box of rocks

I'm certainly not judging anyone that drinks wine but if you are an ex-alcoholic or you used to drink before you were saved and enjoyed the alcohol, it's not a good idea to drink it especially if you are a pastor. He had talked to his brother and mother both not able to comfort him telling him to just move on with out her. I could literally feel his soul was desperately reaching out for God and his peace. I didn't turn him away or his beer. He is not a drinker nor am I an occasional beer once and awhile even before I was saved was how moderately we drank. I was not convicted that I was commiting a sin in doing such we talked for hours about God and I could see how much he wanted to feel his presence. By the time we finished he had a piece of mind and was encouraged too keep knocking on the door until he answers. He came back a couple days later and I could tell he was changed he was glowing and was full of hope even though he wasn't back at home. Be not weak in faith but strong in Faith. Seek understanding like hidden treasure .

Brother Allen YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I'm literally 1 month away from it being a year since I've drank alcohol. I haven't had a beer, glass of wine, etc. I told God and my beautiful wife I would fast from it & pray more & I promise this has been such a blessing. Honestly after my year is up I do plan to drink in moderation but I don't plan on getting drunk or using it as an escape of my issues like I have done in the past. But this was an excellent video. God bless you!

@Joe Blow I can honestly say it’s going well. I’ve always been more of a social drinker so on special holidays and events I will have a drink or 2 but not get drunk. But most times I drink on the days I don’t work & I usually work 6 days a week so that only leaves me 1 day or night to drink & I usually won’t drink a lot because I’m so tired. I never let alcohol take control of me ever…

You can look at this with anything. I had a problem with adultery (in my mind) so for me... I have to be careful to not have a close relationship with any female other than my wife. Because of being too close to certain ones in the past, it caused me to have wrongful action and meanings towards someone other than my wife.
I’m not against friendships, but for me... it can be very damaging to be friends with certain people. Be careful with your choices.

But that's respect of me not judging everyone according what the Lord say to me but I feel different everyone is different in this world when they walk with Christ... is the way God change the person how he want the person to be who he desires to change. @@fransinclair3356 its really a matter of faith ultimately. Whatsoever is not of faith is sin. As it relates to alcohol, we see the reaction of the host at the wedding of cana after Jesus performed His first miracle. The wine was so remarkable that it is specifically noted that under normal circumstances, the best wine is brought out to serve first. Then when the guests are "inebriated", then the lesser quality it brought out. But Jesus saved the best for last.

In the context of Scripture, alcohol is just like food. Food is good in moderation, but gluttony is sin; the same is true of alcohol. Drinking in moderation is not sin, but drinking to the point of intoxication is.

+Eagle's Might, G 37 The proverbs precepts you mentioned are not talking about wine but false doctrine. Isaiah 29: 9 Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.
10 For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Jeremiah 51: 7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in theLord's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.
8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.
revelation 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

My belief is this: Since the Bible tells me to flee.....i.e. Temptations....
To get drunk starts with a glass. You cannot get drunk or stand a chance of getting drunk if you abstain and don't drink at all. Most folks that get drunk don't plan on it. Quite frankly, the more glasses/bottles you drink, the less control you have to caution yourself.
My take : Stay away from alcohol completely.

I was taught Jesus made & drank “new “ wine, I not fermented wine. Also, nothing good comes from drinking. Not one thing. I don’t see how Christians can be in the world & not of the world to be seen out at a bar or at a restaurant drinking & expect to witness to someone or make a good image of Jesus. I don’t think drinking Glorifies God. I used to love to drink. I got saved & I can’t be around alcohol without feeling like I’m corrupting my Christian image. I don’t want anything to do with alcohol. And I don’t think any honest Christian should drink either . My life is full & fun without alcohol.

And that’s you. It even says in the Bible that wine is okay and Jesus poured wine all night at the wedding and turned the water into wine … and Jesus drank wine, so you’re basically implying that Jesus is worldly … maybe getting DRUNK here and there can be seen as worldly because one drink won’t always make someone drunk or hardly ever does make someone drunk… if you feel convicted to drink then that is you because you may react different if you take it further and that can be why the Lord is giving you that conviction. He knows things about yourself that you don’t. Also someone’s “here and there” can be referring to celebration.

    • @sydneyjay323

@@fransinclair3356 drinking isn’t always guaranteed to open the door to sin. I’m almost positive that people don’t understand scripture, nor do they understand the video. If it opens a door to sin for YOU, then that is YOUR personal conviction… everyone is not the same. You’re saying that Jesus opened the door to sin for everyone then. Is that correct? Jesus was for sure a man without sin and I wouldn’t know why he would try to cause anyone to stumble. Please refer to Romans 14: 1-23 … The Bible DOES NOT, condemn drinking, it condemns getting D R U N K. Now if you are not able to consume alcohol without getting drunk, that is between you and God. Please stop projecting. If you cannot stop at one drink, then that is between you and the Lord. I never drink to get drunk. I barely like drinking as it is let alone getting drunk, and it never leads to sin for me. How you ask? Because I have self-control when consuming alcohol. And everyone’s drinking tolerance is different. People should know when to stop or if they are not able to drink at all.

Even if I have just one glass of red wine- it may bring up flashbacks of my past life and I may want to indulge into the rest of that bottle especially if I'm in the comfort of my own home, relaxed. If we are not careful, we may be opening a door that should have just been left closed. I used to be a social drinker. I would drink heavily maybe once every 2 months towards the end of my drinking days, even if I wasn't considered an "alcoholic or addicted" -to me it is almost the same thing because when I did choose to drink, I let loose easily and would end up drinking 5-6 cups of alcohol LOL so in short I believe it is best to just stay away from it altogether to not trigger any fleshly emotions.

The Bible says, "No drunkard will inherit the kingdom of God." The Greek word translated as drunkard is methusos, and it means to get tipsy. Websters says, tipsy means slightly intoxicated. Why risk eternity in Heaven with Christ for alcohol. As far as Timothy being told he could drink for medicinal purposes doesn't really apply today; we have grocery stores and pharmacies that sell all the medicine we need. Don't drink; you won't need to worry about drunk driving. Don't drink; you won't need to worry about becoming an alcoholic. Don't drink and you won't have to worry about drunkenness disqualifying you from eternity in Heaven. Also, it is obviously a bad witness.

Timothy had stomach problems due to the terrible water in the area, he wasn't used to it (Recall that sewage treatment was terrible in those days, it leeched into the water supply. Eww.). Paul told him to mix wine with his water as a way or purification and out of concern, because Timothy was so dedicated that he would not do anything that would damage his ministry including drinking wine (a prevalent problem in those times). I love how Ecclesiastes states to EAT first, THEN drink because it's proven that alcohol is absorbed into food lessening the instant effects of the alcohol so it's harder to get drunk in the event that someone gets a little too generous with wine.

Nice video on a subject I have always wondered about. I do drink but limit myself to a single 8 ounce bottle of Corona beer once in a great while or special occasions. It keeps me sober & alert & in moderation. I think based on the scriptures that this would be permissible & I don't feel any conviction for doing so. If I am drinking everyday or a few at each sitting then maybe I can see a potential problem. For the reasons you stated above I would not drink in public in order not to offend someone or mislead them

      this was my reply:
      Hello Sir,
Unfortunately ill have to disagree with a your fact that Christians can drink alcohol...if it's in MODERATION.

I asked my pastor this question a few years ago."pastor am I allowed to drink alcohol like maybe a beer or a glass of wine?"he ask me how many beers does it take for me to get drunk?.I said I didn't know maybe 6. He told me if I drink 1 beer from a six pack that would mean that I would be 1/6 drunk.Anyway something to think about.by the way I don't even like the taste of alcohol.

“Wine” in the Bible is not always referring to alcoholic wine. We all know there is a difference and it is not used the same way throughout the entire Bible. For example,
Proverbs 23:31 KJV “ Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.”
The “moving” of the wine mentioned here, is referring to the fermentation. And the Bible says not even to look upon it.
    Simple Bible explanation,...
And Jesus was accused of many things that he did not do, including drinking alcoholic wine.

    Hi Allen Parr!
I would just say that it's important to look at what the translated word "wine" means (it can mean oil, fruit of the vine, or juice) and check the historical context, because their "strong drink" had a much, much lower alcohol content than ours today, which is why Paul said in Acts 2 (during Pentacost and speaking in tongues) that the apostles could not possibly be drunk (they were accused of it by skeptics) because it was only the third hour of the day - back then, it took an entire day of drinking to become drunk. (Faith Bible Institute has a course on Acts which explained this, and I'm currently taking a course on Acts through Maranatha Baptist University which is why I decided to check out your channel)

Question: What amount of alcohol can you have without being influenced by alcohol? It’s a matter of influence. Influence of the Spirit or influence of alcohol. Where do you want your influence to come from?
The word influence changed my view of drinking, along with the Spirit of God. Be filled with the Spirit of the Lord.
We must come under the control of the Spirit like a drunk comes under control of the spirits.
    Psalm 4:7-8
    Eph 5:18
My last question to Christian’s: Do you benefit spiritually from being under the influence of alcohol?

      I agree with Nancy Dee
Without trying to be disrespectful or to condemn anyone just trying to speak truth according to God.
We can go on all day talking about we should drink vs. why we shouldn’t drink alcohol but in reality our own flesh has evil desires wether it’s alcohol, sugar/food, drugs, lust, greed, etc...my point is I can easily try to manipulate the Bible to my own desire, to my own comfort, so then that’s when we start compromising according to OUR OWN righteousness.
You know because “I’m a Christian, I’m in the spirit so clearly I’m right and you’re wrong”. Us Christians always need to remember to be humble and not to be wise in our own eyes but be wise in God.
Is Drinking beer ok, a little, a lot? Only sometimes?
I absolutely doubt that God created me to drink beer. Theres simply nothing Godly about it. And you may say but God made it so...what then?
Yes, he also made Sex but that doesn’t mean we can sleep around. Not once, a little bit, or a lot, you know because it’s recommended and it can be good for you like we like to believe about alcohol.
He made a bunch of other stuff but is it ok for me to twist things around and say that it’s ok to drink, smoke, go to clubs, smoke weed, get tattoos?
....ultimately the Holy Spirit Will convict and let you know when you’re in sin wether we choose to listen and ignore it that’s another story.
She may be tempted w/alcohol because that’s something she used to battle with but That doesn’t mean it can’t become our weakness too. Im not tempted by beer to a certain degree because we’re all sinners and can fall just like anyone else so that doesn’t mean I’m gonna bring beer in my home simply because “I’m not tempted by it”. I can be upset one day, and think hey, I have beer in my home, well I’ll just get drunk and it’s ok because I’m upset right now.
I mean think about murder, anyone who has ever committed a crime like that couldn’t say”oh, I’m gonna stay away from people because I’m tempted by them” and I can’t say, well, that stinks for you because I’m not tempted like that so yeah. When in reality, we all can become just ask sick and twisted like other people but sometimes we like to pretend like we got it all together. You know,”oh, I’m a perfect Christian and I got it all together”...the last time I checked, God is the only one who is perfect and even then the enemy tried to tempt him too. Meaning we can all be tempted to all type of sin but we’re stubborn, prideful, or simply and honestly believe you won’t be tempted like that but you can. I guess it really is like playing with fire and like it or not, you will get burn and if not you, maybe someone else or someone you love.
Ultimately since we live in a sinful world, the devil is everywhere and we open doors that give the enemy a foothold. Therefore causing murder, rape, drinking, lust, and all type of sin.
In the end, it’s between you and God. And as brothers and sisters in love we tell each other the truth we know out of love not to condemn but to help one another so my best wishes and prayers to everyone.
      God bless you all

To be honest... I’m extremely upset with many churches for their baseless stigma against wine. For thousands of years, it was part of the normal, everyday life of the Christian community (the medieval believers were actually the ones develop it through trial-and-error).
In the end, anyone who says drinking wine moderately is a sin has a WEAK conscience according to Romans Ch 12 and 1 Cor Ch 8... and they are told what to believe rather than actually reading the Bible for simple insights like these. Yes, they have a “weak conscience” that I have to have a burden to bear (1Cor Ch 8).
I mean... who reads the entire bible and concludes that it’s a sin in itself... non-sense!

I also don't see anything that suggests that the wine Jesus created was unfermented. I think people tend to go that direction because they are nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of Jesus creating wine. Wine in itself is not evil just like money is not evil. It's all in how you perceive it and use it and whether it becomes an idol or an addiction in your life. Those are my thoughts? Yours?

As always, you are so "spot on." Do you pastor a church near Hagerstown, Md.? I would certainly attend.

I love a good drink every now and then but know my limits and won't let myself get drunk. Plus my wife has an alcoholic brother who gets violent and she doesn't like that around her so out of respect I am willing to meet her halfway and only have them once in awhile. I used to have a bible study group who had a couple that thought it was ok to get drunk as long as you don't act wild and stupid and sin. That raised my eyebrows cause I'm like the bible clearly says be not drink with wine and drunkereds will not inherit the kingdom of God. If it wasn't a sin to get drunk God would have said as long as you act civilized but he didn't. I don't think they're bad people but just have spiritual growing to do.

I think it has to do more with the state of your heart. If you are having brunch with your Christian sisters and you have a glass of wine...vs. if you go out with a man on a date and get plastered at a bar. Who are you then? Are you ruining your witness? Do you feel like that drink is going to make your problems go away? It's your mind and heart setting that can have serious consequences if you decide to drink. This can cause you a severe separation from God.

My one and only question for anyone who thinks it's okay to drink is this:
    why would you want to?
I challenge you to tell me something good that comes about from drinking alcohol. It's not because it's less expensive or less addicting than its non-alcoholic counterparts. It's not because it makes you a more productive citizen, parent, student, employee, boss, or spouse. It's not because it makes you look more like Jesus. It's not because it's good for your body, which scripture makes clear is the temple of God's Holy Spirit. In each of these cases the opposite is true.
So. . .why drink alcohol, whether the Bible condones it or not?

I went to a wedding and the one born again church's that prohibits drinking, got up and left the party as soon as someone bought a beer. It was an open bar, the man that bought the beer was a non-believer. But being I was the only Christian left, gave me a very good opportunity to be a light to an unsaved family, on both sides. I did not see Jesus leave the wedding, and neither did I. PastorDowell, did I do right by you, or did the ones that left the party do right?

Just had a talk with this man (The Preacher: Landon's Story - Dogtown Redemption | ITVS) and you know what, you were right. Not a sin but not a good thing to do either.

      This was my reply:
      Hello Sir,
Unfortunately ill have to disagree with a your fact that Christians can drink alcohol...if it's in MODERATION.
