I’ve never felt like I’d be cursed if I didn’t tithe and I don’t give to get something in return. I give a tithe because it’s all HIS to begin with and my cup is overflowing with the many blessings from my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! God bless - JESUS is king! ✝️

The confusion among people arises from the misunderstanding of two distinct terms: "giving" and "tithing." Tithing was a tax, whereas giving is an act of kindness. People often mix the two up. Historically, tithing was never about money, regardless of what some pastors might claim. Tithing involved tangible goods, not cash. If you want me to tithe, I'll bring a bottle of Hennessy because it says to bring strong drink and eat with the Levites. Show me where it mentions a collection plate. Lastly, prove to me that you are a Levite. Otherwise, church is essentially a Bible study that can be conducted at home if you can't afford the building you're using. Prove me wrong! What religion was our Lord and Savior?
Great for you. But a lot of Christians are not well off. They're not seeing blessings. They're seeing poverty and are in need. Even if tithing were a Christian requirement -- which is it NOT -- they can't afford to donate that much. And this was also occurring in the NT times. Paul and other early Christians took up offerings to help the poor Christians in Judea be able to afford to eat. If tithing were a Christian teaching, those Judean Christians would have been taught it directly by the Apostles. Furthermore, those original Christians would have been "overflowing with many blessings", because in Acts 2 & 3 it says many of them gave much more to the church than a tenth. Yet they were on the verge of starving, to where Paul had to encourage other Christians 1000 miles away, in Greece, to take up collections for them. Tithing is legalism, pure and simple. It is a work of the Law, not grace.
It doesn't take a math major to figure out If you don't tithe you won't have any where to go on Sunday. Also Jesus never sinned.
yeah but realize that tithing is part of the law, something we have been rescued from. we ought to live our lives as christians not as folks in the old testament who were governed by the law.
Great video. In my countless hours of study on the topic Ive come to 4 principles we have as the church in Biblical giving.
1. Proportionally: the more you make the more you can give.
2. Sacrificially: our gift should cost us something. Certainly 1 or 2% isnt a sacrifice.
3. Consistently: budget, plan, be intentional with your resources so you can give...or it may seem as a taxation Paul says.
4. Cheerfully: your motives behind the gift must be right. God loves the cheerful giver.

That is all and has nothing to do with tithing.
Tithing is not demanded of the Christian; But the Gospels talk about the importance and benefits of giving. We are to give as we are able. Sometimes that means giving more than 10 percent; sometimes that may mean giving less. It all depends on the ability of the Christian and the needs of the body of Christ. We Christians should diligently pray and seek God’s wisdom in the matter (James 1:5). Most important is offerings should be given with pure motives and an attitude of worship to God and service to the body of Christ. “Each of us should give what we have decided in our heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

FACTS!! I've seen so called christians tithe every Sunday and be the stingyiest, greedy, hoarders to the less fortunate, not speaking for all, but many! If they do give they complain about it, their not cheerful as Paul said we should be
the very very very specific amount that God asked us Gentiles to give is….whatever we decided in our heart to give. It isn’t a specific percent, we have to get that idea out of our head. It maybe different amounts in different seasons of life…don’t need to do a math equation!!!

If you submit yourself to tithing,based on my own experience it felt so enslaving , especially when they would almost forced you to do it at church or preaching about it in a mandatory manner, I did my research on that subject and I too found that we should not be mandated to tithe but give freely and cheerfully as we much as we will, this felt so different and much freedom especially in your relationship with God because you do it out of love and not forced.
We tithe not because the Lords needs it but it shows where our heart lies. What a blessing it is to tithe and give above and beyond with time and offerings

I’ll continue giving tithes and offering because God has blessed me greatly and I know my church uses it for the glory of God.🎉❤ 10% is nothing compared to what God did for me for offering His only dear son to die for a sinful such as I. 💃🏾 To God be the glory and all that I am and have is an offering to Jesus.
Tithing does not fulfill the righteousness of God. It is written, He has dispersed abroad, he has given to the poor, his righteousness remains forever. Tithing is of the law, and the law was bondage. Tithe is faith based. This subject is so simple that I don’t understand how people argue over it.
1. The video just brushes off the first time tithe appeared in the scriptures. His argument is that it was given by Abraham and not commanded by God.
That exactly the point for tithing.
Abraham was led to tithe. Any Christian who is led to tithe without manipulation or coercion gives it in faith.
We don’t tithe to be blessed, we tithe because we are blessed.

I want to share that I have struggled with my finances for a while and always felt like I couldn't afford to tithe. A couple I'm close with shared their tithing experiences with me and I was surprised to hear them talk about it like it was as expected as eating and breathing. This changed my view, so I put my faith in God and set up 10% of my income to be taken out, every month. He has NEVER let me down since that decision, as I have always had enough money; even when times were tough, I swear, random money would come my way to make sure I was covered. God is faithful and God is good! I don't regret my decision to start tithing, at all--He gives me EVERYTHING, so giving 10% of that back in money is the least I can do!

You can't create doctrine out of your personal experiences. That is not how it works.
Do you know how many pastors have either recanted these teachings or otherwise fallen hard from grace. There was a major one here recently who quite proudly taught this tithe teaching, even boasting about checking up on the records of a man wanting to date his daughter. He will probably never stand behind a pulpit again.
Those teachings are toxic and abusive and I would be wary of those who work that con. You don't seem to have paid any attention to what Allen has said here.

I can't tell you what a relief it was after we came out of the Word of Faith movement. We gave so much money because we were guilt tripped into doing so that we lost our house, our car and filed bankruptcy TWICE! When I started reading scripture for myself, I was shocked but so relieved!! Give as the Holy Spirit tells you with a cheerful heart!
Read scripture people! Don't just blindly take people's word for it.

Sorry it took all that for you all to see the truth. I grew up in that awful nonsense, as well. When we left 20 years ago, the seeker church we joined taught tithing just as rabidly as the word of faith bunch, just without the 100 fold return part. Thankfully, we have been a part of a faithful church for several years that teaches rightly on these issues. We give as generously as ever, but without the legalism and bondage that comes with the abusive tithe teaching.
The church building, ( warm in winter cool in summer) electric bill, insurance, water bill, audio equipment, maintenance and repairs cannot be paid for with grains and oil. In today’s world money is used. Also taking care of widows and families in need we cannot pay the grocery stores , mortgage holder, doctors etc with grains and oil.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful to you but if you filed bankruptcy and lost your house did you not have a budget? Why on earth would you do that ? Exactly how much did you give to go bankrupt? The Bible does tell us to pay a tenth bring it into the storehouse. That is the church you go to so the church can remain open in hopes the lost will come in and receive Jesus as well as the saved to be fed and have Christian fellowship
Let’s not forget the Pastor and family who simply cannot pay their bills with grain and oil

@@lisajones6313 Did you not just hear what Allen said? Tithing is not relevant now. Giving is. A church doesn't need a stage, lighting and all the theatrics. Our giving gives qnd contributes to needs but the first need, according to scripture, is the poor, widows and orphans. Not creature comforts.
Second, you have NO idea of tbe church abuse/manipulation/scare tactics that took place there. We were told that if you didn't give 10% of our income, God would curse us and we would never be blessed. They taught that in order to get, you must give. The pastor had a saying "if it doesn't meet your need, it's seed". Meaning, if what you don't have is enough, sow seed of money and more would come in. Instead of putting the money aside and add to it from the next paycheck to pay your bills. We were poor. I married poor and I don't mind. I married for love. But the pastor manipulated us into not just giving 10% of giving what we couldn't afford but also, 2 to 4 offerings a week!! One eas supposed to go to fixing a leaking roof in the youth wing that NEVER got fixed so where did that go? Well, they had a nice big house and a trip to Disneyland while families like us couldn't afford to pay our bills because we gave money we couldn't afford! So don't assume you know anything about how we handled our finances. My husband also fell sick and couldn't work.
After I learned TRUE biblical giving , God blessed us and still is. We unknowingly placed ourselves under a curse by trying to follow the law instead of living in God's grace.

I’m simply stating yes you should pay tithes and offerings willingly no one can pay bills with grains and oil as the person stated suggested is in the Bible . What you are speaking of is an individual case not all Pastors or church members do wrong with the money that goes to the church. You sound bitter of the choices you made no one forced you to pay what you could not afford. New Testament giving is NOT a tithe it is a gift of love to support the ministry. He supplies seed to the sower and multiplies it. Giving is a grace from supply of grace. God blesses some with a spiritual gift of giving.
Prophet Jesus has sent Prophet Muhammad in Allah's command - (Gospel of John 16: 7-14 and Quran 33: 45-46 indirectly).
According to the Quran also Allah has given authority to Prophet Jesus to judge at the day of judgement and Prophet Jesus was present with Allah during the creation of the Universe - (Quran 21: 29-30 indirectly).
In Quran 21:29 it is mentioned indirectly that Prophet Jesus will send those Christians to hell who say that Jesus is also a deity besides Allah.
Allah is the first and the last and the manifest and the hidden and Allah has knowledge of everything - (Quran 57:3).
God is spirit and his worshippers must worship him in spirit and truth - (Gospel of John 4:24).

@geekmeee that seems so spiritual but you can't give what you haven't first been supplied and multiplied. That is what the law taught us. ISRAELS ATTEMPT TO SACRICE AND DO. WAS NOT RIGHTEOSNESS. no one can sacrifice enough or do enough which is why Jesus did all the work to supply us grace and all good things in him. We steward the grace and God multiplies our seed but in any situation where there is a giving there is also a receiving. It is Not selfish or unspiritual to need and ask and receive. It is more blessed to give. But blessed also to receive. This is why God loves a hilarious giver because they trust grace to keep supplying so they are free to keep sowing in faith. But let's be clear. If no one receives no one is blessed. That's actually what blessed is. It's abundance overflowing. Let's make sure we don't spiritualize away receiving as natural and spiritual. Many super spiritualizers imply that it is selfish to receive and block the blessing and the flow. It is actually selfish to not receive from someone generous because you want to be self sufficient in pride or shame. An isolated from receiving life is an unblessed life.

I had a patient in a wheelchair who tithed her social security income, which was all she got. Whenever I think that I can’t afford to make the tithe, I think of her. And He has always gotten us through.
I've tithed even during some tough times and I learned to honor God first and trust in Him as my source. I've been blessed with more than enough.
This is not to say that non-tithers couldn't have a similar testimony.
I've learned that you can't buy your blessings, healings, etc. It takes obedience to God., and He don't need our money. He need our hearts. We can't be cursed if we do not pay Tithes because Christ died on the cross and broken the curses. Being in relationship with God and being obedient to Him brings blessings.
Totally agree Alan. Very good teaching here. Tithing is the sacred cow to so many Christians. So many Christians can’t separate tithing 10% as instructed in the OT (old covenant) and simply giving generously as the NT (new covenant) instructs. So many Christians think when you teach against tithing that you’re saying NOT to give. How very untrue. Actually the NT instructs generous giving which often means giving more than 10% and yes it also can mean less than 10%. The difference is, in the NT, we are NOT “required” to give 10% as in the old covenant.
@@haroldvwilliams4253Giving an offering isn’t buying blessings, it’s blessing others. God wants us to give generously to others and we were given the example of the woman who gave a shekel, which was all she had. I’d suggest giving an offering either to your local church or any group/person in need, but of course do so willingly and cheerfully.
My family & I are tremendously blessed with more than enough & we don’t tithe at all.

Yes, we do not tithe, but we give generously and willingly as the Lord has prospered us. We give, not because we are commanded. Rather, we give because we love the Lord. We recognise that all we have come from God, as such, we are possessors of nothing, but stewards of all that we have. We give willingly to support the work of the gospel, to support faithful ministers in the Lord's vineyard, to help the poor and needy... not by compulsion, but freely according to our ability.
Do the churches you are going to really give to the widows, the orphans, the needies, etc...? Do they ?
Because I would rather give that money directly to the needy, or orphans and widows. The preachers have strength to work like everyone else.
I know we should pay for electricity, rent and so on. If all of us come together and give 1%, that should be sufficient to pay for rent etc...the rest of our money, we can share it to those who are really in need.
Which I believe its where a generous offering cheerfully given comes in.

You're donating to the church. It would be very difficult to charge people at the door for entry, but you can play on "tithing" to get people to...."Pay at the door".
If you ask people to donate, they will come up with many reasons why they can't, but if you tell them that the bible says you must, and if you don't you won't receive your blessings, they the gullible will.
Sorry, but I attended a Baptist church about 30 years ago, a few days before Christmas. And a part of the preacher's sermon was for parents to not rob children of their Christmas childhood. And at the end of the sermon made it clear that the church was doing fine, and not donating, but instead use the money to allow the children to enjoy was not going to cause the lights or heat to get cut off...And once his sermon commenced, someone yelled out, "Well I wanna donate anyways", and soon near all of the congregation formed a line to the alter to place their donations into the baskets.

Actually, you don't tithe, you only think you do. According to the bible it was always food that was tithed and guess what... they ate it afterward. I love giving.. especially helping out fellow christians... and the homeless...I do agree im giving to the church. But tithing? That wad actually a command... so really it's not giving freely... it's bringing what belongs to the Lord which was........... Food.... bring your tithe to the storehouse so it may be EATEN!!
Me and my wife give (tithes and offerings) because God has continued to supply and meet our every need (not just finances). Our principle is that what God has given, is meant to be shared with others. Our principle in giving is not so that God is obligated to give us something in return but we are confident and we have faith that God can supply what we need and that through us the needs of others can also be met.

It was about a month ago that I finally found that there is freedom in Christ through His blood alone. My son kept urging me that God loves a cheerful giver and there's no need for tithing. I didn't understand this until recently when i found an online preacher who preached just that and now you, too Allen Parr. For the longest time i was living a life of almost poverty just to tithe and even that, it was not the 23.xx%. It also became a pride issue as well that I'm tithing and my fellow congregant is not. So thankful for your confirming message.
I too found I felt pride that I could give 10% or more. Thank you for your transparency; you shined a light on my weakness-- "seeking approval of others"; even seeking The Master's approval.
So give without anyone knowing. That's the issue. Don't hold onto God's money because of your heart. Give, and then keep your mouth shut and let no one see or no.
Those who use Malachi to enforce tithing only show they do not know how to interpret the Word. This book was written to the priests who were not being faithful in carrying out their duties. When God says to test Him in this, He is NOT talking to the people, only the unfaithful priests. We are never to test Him in this issue. We give in faith, it is the priests who must make sure the wealth (money, offerings, etc.) are distributed faithfully. The priests were robbing God in their unwillingness to store up the food as required by the Tithe by holding it only for themselves.The entire book of Malachi must be read to see each item of unfaithfulness in the full context. So this book is actually a warning to the leadership to use the offerings given to glorify God, and not build up personal wealth.

I looked abit into it. The way i understood it there are some warnings to the priests in the book of Malachi, but most warnings (including the tithe) was to the entire nation of Israel.

I stopped tithing when all I saw was my pastor buying luxurious cars and properties, eating in the best restaurants and going on vacations. I am no longer in his church anyways, I realized he preaches the prosperity Gospel.

Whether the tithe is now a requirement or not, whether the church calls us to tithe or not, when it comes to me and my house, i will tithe and give offerings besides. In Malachi, the meaning of why giving for the needs of the local church is still relevant, in my opinion, to the concern of God, even whether or not the tithe is currently a rule. When it comes to my money, the cold reality that many Christians would not admit is that if i didn't tithe as though the rule still stands, my giving would be pathetic and unworthy at best, lacking any consistency or faithful sacrifice that is deserved of my Holy, just, righteous, and merciful King. So yes, i give tithes and offerings on a consistent basis, for this serves to me as a perpetual reminder that it was God who gave me 100% of my income, and to me, this is my way of saying thank you God when it comes with my money. Where your treasure is, there your heart also shall be. Your Money is always a heart issue with God. Can't say what others hearts are when it comes to their money and giving to God, but for me, if i ever thought that giving was optional, or gave excuses for why giving a tenth is just too expensive to give to the one who gave everything for me on the cross, if ever my heart was at that place, for me, i would not be right with God, for both God and Mammon would have a hold of my heart and affections. i choose to commit to tithes and offerings as though this is still relevant in my relationship with God, because in my relationship with God it is, not because i have to, but because i get to

Of all the comments I've read, yours is my exact sentiment. Whether lawful or not, I give because God freely gave to me. I've learned to live on 90% of my income for 25 years. Giving has negated my selfishness and I've seen, firsthand, the fruits of my giving and not just monetary. Good health, peace, successes, joy, protection, sanctification... the list is endless when you check your heart about how and why you give. Blessings!

You are clearly trying to "bribe" God. Virtue signaling is probably a sin.
Everything our brother Allen says is FACTS so don't feel bad if you aren't "literally" tithing. However, my wife and I started tithing this year after our son was born and God has never let us down, we've experienced some financial miracles (random raises and bonuses at work, bills coming in much lower than expected, etc. etc) but this is not why we tithe. THE MAIN REASON is we are surrendering our finances to God, letting him know that we whole heartedly trust in him. Money has no hold or power in our lives and so far, God has taken care of us like I said earlier. Also, as a side note, tithing has improved our lives greatly, we are not buying random things/items any more, eating out as much etc. because we are budgeting to tithe. I do believe that when you commit to giving from an unselfish position, there is a benefit. I think exactly what the benefit is will vary as God wills and the condition of one's heart.
Tithing as a Christian is to misunderstand our position. We are to live like every penny belongs to Christ. Spend wisely.

God doesn't need our money, but the church does. I personally like having a building with electricity and other utilities to go to every week to worship. Air conditioning sure is nice in the summer, and heat in the winter :) Running water is nice as well. I also like knowing that my contributions put food on the table for my elders and their families. My church also helps those in need in our local body, and in the community at large. Our finance team does a good job of disclosing what all of these things cost and how much those costs are per committed family in the church. That is a very practical thing that helps us think about what we can do to help and to be a blessing to the body. As for me and my house, that is no less than 10% as a "tithe", plus an additional fixed amount for offerings to help cover building expenses. Some people do more if they are financially able, and I'm sure some do less or nothing at all if they don't feel they can. I do not judge anyone for what they feel they can or can't do. That's between them and the Lord.

God does not need our money but the church does? You are separating the 2? God and the church are one. The church doe not exist without God. God said, If we don’t praise him the rocks will cry out. If he doesn’t need our praise, he certainly doesn’t need our money. God will get the glory for his church with or without us. Apart from him, we can do nothing. Therefore, the church that represents GOD, does not need our money.
I don't mind at all for people who can afford to tithe to continue to do so. You do so cheerfully with thanks to God and you are supporting His church. What bothers me is when the elderly widow and the disabled are tithing on their social security because they are told that if they don't, they are robbing God. The poor were never expected to pay tithe in the Old Testament, but that's never talked about.
Orthodox monks lived in caves with no tithing and God still provided. St. Anthony the great is a shining example. Unfortunately protestants don't know their church history.
Facts! There are a lot of churches out here giving false promises about paying the tithes, and you would receive a blessing, and there are a lot of folks struggling to pay bills. He who is kind to the poor is lending to Adonai; and he will repay him for his good deed Proverbs 19:17. Offering is good to support the church. We should be willing and cheerful givers. After seeing so much abuse of church funds, I give offerings and spread them out to various individuals or organizations that I know are struggling. I feel like if this many church leaders are purposely misleading the people, I will make sure my few "mites" get to the needy. Most churches also don't believe in helping poor congregants. I have a nephew in jail. He needs things. Nobody from the church is going to give him anything to survive in there. There are missionaries, homeless, and struggling people who need financial help or food. I want to make sure that these unreached get some kind of help. It bothers me that these pastors know this and refuse to teach it correctly.

It doesn't matter if it's $0.10 or $100 giving is giving. I think about the woman with the two copper coins. It's not about the money, but our heart. Most people who have families do not make enough to tithe 10% of their income. It is important to support the church, but give what you can afford.
I used to tithe, I now tithe by giving to those that are in need of family, friends, etc.

In my observations, many pastors refuse to even study this topic fully. Perhaps fearing they won't get paid. It's annoying because I've been in positions where I would have given to them had they not made it seem like I had to. Generosity is a fruit of the Spirit. Our pastor makes it a requirement for leaders to give tithe. I told him that is not biblical. Why are you making this a requirement to lead in ministry when these positions in the church are a gift from GOD to edify the church? God did not require leaders of the church to tithe. The requirements for leaders are clearly stated in the Bible and tithing is not one of them. He would not back down nor provide any scriptures to support his unbiblical requirement.
Guilt giving is a sin. And those who put pressure on you to give up your $ are also sinning.

That's is called giving not tithing. Tithing a tenth is not required so the word tithe is misleading and dangerous to blurr the line between Israel and the church. Between law and grace. Which is why Christians are confused. The word is never used for Christian giving in the new Testament instructions to the church.

Whenever I didn’t tithe I was struggling to make ends meet. Every time I give my tithe to be a blessing I get a new blessing that is not just financial.
And if you don't tithe, the money you keep is your blessing.

Love this, Allen. People are in bondage to this teaching, and I hate it. I grew up being taught to tithe and if I didn't my finances would be cursed. I got saved at 16 and kept tithing until I was encouraged to do a study on tithing myself. Long story short, I was set free from the tithing bondage!

@@davidgno Let me clarify. Read Machi 3:8-10. I was taught if I didn't tithe, my finances would be cursed. Preachers who believe that tithing is for the church use these verses either out of ignorance or to guilt people into tithing. I grew up in church, was religious and once I heard the gospel for the first time (visiting another church), I was born again through repentance and faith. I kept tithing because that's all I knew. One day a brother in Christ encouraged me to do a study on tithing/giving. I did so and as a result, I was set free from the bondage of tithing in the sense that I had to give 10%. I began to give as I was led and determined to give ever since. Sometimes my giving exceeded 10% and sometimes it didn't. Hope that clears it up for you.

@@davidgno Apart from giving to my church, my wife and I make it a practice to have money to give to those in need outside of the church. We do for those in need within the church as well so giving isn't just restricted to what we put in an offering plate on Sunday or whenever. Whenever we can be a blessing through buying groceries, clothes etc, we try to be available to be used in those areas too. This whole tithing thing sometimes can blind us to the reality that we can help others apart from what we give to support the local church. I won't go back to that mentality, and I try to help others see that as well.
Bro. This is a great teaching on tithing and something the Lord has been working into my heart over the past few months. My motivation for giving has changed from an old testament, Law perspective to a heart of generosity, new testament perspective. Although, I still give a tenth to my church, it's not because I am required to do so by the law or from fear of being cursed. We have been redeemed from the curse of the law. I give a tenth because it allows me to give regularly. I also give offerings when the Holy Spirit prompts me to give. The offerings are more spontaneous giving. The whole point is the Lord challenged my motivation for giving and a lot of the points you made, were the ones he worked into my heart. Thanks for putting this out there. Keep up the good fight!
I’m doing the same. The ten percent just makes it easier. I also give to others when God puts it on my heart to do so. But no more giving just because someone is screaming that I must do it to be blessed.

That's how it should be. I'll always "tithe" God willing, but not out of necessity but because it's an opportunity to support God's work regularly without thinking much. It's also trained me in being able to let go of money for God and for others. Plus, with the tithes system, as my income increases, my giving increases. I even tend to round UP my tithes because He deserves more than 10% which is a guide and not a limitation.

I was a member of a church where the pastor is my brother in law and I remember him using fear to make the members give a certain amount of tithing. Fortunately I’m no longer there and unfortunately the church is no longer open because a lot of ppl left as well.
That sucks ☹️ Yeah, I had to leave a church like that too. It was a beautiful church (in the PNW, was up a mountain overlooking the water). Things were kinda ok to start with. But a guest speaker came a few times, who was great, but one of the times he prophesied that the church was gonna feed the poor. What did the pastor do? He was trying in the flesh to figure out how to raise money to do that. So, preaching on tithing every other week it was! And, instead of focusing on the poor people in the church (so many were poor there), they opened a second campus in the neighboring town. It was because all the rich retirees lived there. Meanwhile, there was this poor guy God told me to drive to church there. He was an indentured servant on a farm (my rides were stage one in God's plan to improve his life). The church told him they'd give him a job. Then this happened, and they couldn't afford to pay him🙄 And they promised him an old van they weren't using, and then reneged because they decided to used it to drive people to church. In the other town.... God took care of this man no matter what, but that was a crap move on the church ☹️ The people they were supposed to help were being stepped on so they could feed the poor... A lot of people left the church to go to other ones🤦♀️ Not saying I never do things like this, but looking at it from this direction makes my sins look even more stupid 😂

One of my co-workers actually despised church because when his elderly mother-in-law could no longer physically attend. The pastor actually came to her and told her that she should continue tithing even though she could not attend, she consistently sent payment to the church. 10% of her income and 10% of her husbands income. My co-worker went through her account and found that she had tithed $13,000 dollars in the span of a year. during that year, the church never visited her, checked on her or prayed with her except for the day when they came and told her that she should continue tithing. He paid a visit to the pastor and demanded that they stop taking advantage of her and he told him that if this is the way Christians treat people, then he wants no part of it.
I spoke with him consistently and talked to him about Jesus and the Good news Gospel of Jesus Christ and I ask him to please do not judge Christ by the acts of man, but to please seek him and find out who he really is. I
I hope and pray that he heard me and that the seed was planted in him buds and grows in the name of Jesus.

Notice how they could convert their tithe to money if the place they were supposed to take the tithe was too far? I would highly encourage you to study what the actual old testament tithe system was like and you will see what is practiced now is nothing like it and is not comparable.
Not to mention, if the tithe system was still in place, you cannot just decide to change it based how we handle farming now.
@@midimusicforever yea, although the terminologies get strange from how it went from greek to latin, latin to old english, to new english., simply put "tithes" are just the modern translation for "tenth", so one could interpret still that we have tithes, while the the other half can disagree. Whos right? not sure but Gods for sure called us to be generous and live to fulfill his law, which still includes "tithing"(lack of better word) in some regards.. Mathew 23:23, at the very end concludes (literally last few words of that verse) with a command that we still have to "tithe" (again, sorry, lack of better word)
The prosperity gospel and that verse in Malachi killed me spiritually to ground zero. I'm slowly rebuilding my mind to truly understand that it is the matter of the heart ❤️ not out of obligation and of fear!

This actually gives me anxiety now that I'm trying to understand grace giving... As a person who already searched for God out of guilt and to gain his mercy... This way of giving is taking me some time to get used too.... I would sit back and look at people I know wondering why they aren't cursed yet for not paying tithes, while Im struggling to pay bills and tithes having to get pay day loans sometimes afraid to miss my tithes, or always coming with an excuse to why my rent is late to my landlord in fear of not paying my tithes, when I'm afraid to call off because I want to make sure I'm keeping a certain amount to give to my church because I know my pastor needed it.... And im sitting here trying to understand why so many churches still preach this.... But yet know everything else about the Bible and how to break it down... It puts me in a place of not being able to trust God's people and I don't want to be that way, but it's tough. But I won't sit back and keep getting pressured into something I don't have at the moment monetarily!! I feel like God has been trying to get me to see the light on this years ago, but when the preachers come at you with malachi 3 you feel bad not to give.

But that's between them and God. Do I have to work two jobs to make ends meet? Yep, but God has always supplied my family's needs. Did I make more as a Mental Health Therapist before Seminary, Yep! But God has never failed us! I drive a 2010 Buick, our family have always done stay cations, and my kids are NOT the worst for it! They see the need to serve the Lord, and they do!

Unfortunately some/most church members have a problem giving, time or money. I was taught that because we’re under the dispensation of grace we should be giving more than the ten percent! However, many churches use the ten percent as a foundation so they know their members will give at the very least that amount. It’s sad that people want a full time pastor and a nice church, but fail to realize that it’s their funds that are needed! God is our Jehovah Jireh, we can depend upon him for our every need.
It’s good to have a nice church and a full time pastor. All of this comes with expenses but do you think we should pay for the pastor’s plane, cars and fancy houses?while some in the church can’t afford rent or able to buy a car or take a vacation.

I don’t tithe because a certain prosperity preacher came out and said that it’s not in the New Testament as a law. People still do it because they still feel that it’s a law and they want to be blessed and also people always read that Malachi scripture “will a man rob God…”. I still give an offering from time to time because the church does need to keep the lights on and certain programs are beneficial for the community but I feel that the pastor should just be honest and say that and some of them do.
When it comes to giving, I was inspired by Pastor Russel Evans of Planetshakers Church. He always say "we don't give because you have to, we give because we want to." It really changed my mindset about tithing and giving.
Malachi 1:1 is clear who Malachi 3 was direct to. It was directed to Israel and the wicked priests who were stealing from the tithe. It was not addressed to the church or you, the believer.
Paul tells you how to give to your church:
1 Corinthians 16:2-3 NASB
"On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come. When I arrive, whomever you may approve, I will send them with letters to carry your gift to Jerusalem"
Paul makes no reference to how much to save or give, but he says in 2 Corinthians 9:7 to be a cheerful giver.

I’m reminded what Jesus said: don’t let your left hand see what your right hand is doing. When we tithe at a church institution, the left hand knows. You get a yearly statement of your “goodness”. To be a cheerful giver can mean giving to the church (the people-the called out ones). There are many in the church that are in need. Financial stress is hurting many. If we stay connected to the Holy Spirit, He will guide where and how to give. There is a major distinction between Holy Spirit conviction and guilt tripping sermons. Allen Parr did a phenomenal job explaining in this video. Be cheerful in giving wherever you give.
I have been under the curse of the law, following the teaching of Pastors, then i studied and found that something was off. Now with understanding I found that while under the law I discredited the work Jesus did to fulfill it. So many Christians are still misinformed. But it is an ongoing work of growth. Praise God for His grace. Praise Jesus for being the sacrifice. 🙌🏽
Great word. 10% is (in my mind) the starting point. "What can I afford to give?" Is the WRONG starting place. It ALL belongs to God. "What is God directing me to give of HIS money?" is a better starting place.
It's a forced starting point. Tithing was not even money. Free will offering was old and new testament. Exodous 25: 1-4, Exodous 35: 4-5, 29. It's more scripture, but that's enough for now. God even told them to stop giving, through Moses (Exodous 36: 6-7)
Allen, I think you got a lot right, but I also think you missed the mark on some of this. I'll summarize here, but I also wrote about tithing a while back and I'll copy/paste it in the replies (RUclips hates big copy/paste comments, so it may not show up).
1. The Levites did not receive an inheritance of land because they were set aside for Temple duties. Therefore, they got a tithe, but it wasn't for the 'entire community' it was the Levites inheritance.
2. If Israel didn't tithe, the Levites had to abandon the Temple to work for food. This meant no one was teaching or interceding for the Israelites.
3. The passage in 2 Corinthians isn't talking about tithing, it's talking about a donation for the saints in Jerusalem Paul is collecting for.
4. Paul quotes Jesus and writes that the laborer is worthy of his hire. This is in reference to church bishops not being ashamed to ask money of their congregation and the congregation having an obligation to support the bishops.
This was too brief, my full thoughts on this will be in the replies.
Tithing
When God gave the land of Canaan to the Israelites, He determined that the Levites should not receive a land portion, but should instead receive 6 cities. The reason for them not receiving a land allotment is so that they may focus on performing Tabernacle (and later, Temple) duties. The Levites stood between sinners and God and offered up sacrifices day by day. In doing so, God accepted the sacrifices as a covering for the sins of the people (Hebrews 10). They also had the responsibility to read and teach the Word of God to the Israelites (Dueteronomy 31:10-13).
Since the Levites were dedicated to these tasks, and because they had no land, they were unable to farm or to ranch for a living. Because of this, and because of the importance of their duties, God commanded that the Israelites should give a tenth of their produce, flocks, and the like to the Levites as their inheritance (Numbers 18:21-22). In turn, the Levites also gave a tenth to the LORD (Numbers 18:26-28).
As a point of clarity, the Levites were given a portion of land around each city so that they may pasture the animals that they received (Numbers 35:2-3).
However, when the Israelites were unfaithful in doing this, the Levites were forced to abandon the Temple and work so that they may eat. (Nehemiah 13:10; 2 Chronicles 31:4).
So now, what does it mean in Malachi when we read, "Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need."?
So often this verse is taken out of context by hyper-charismatics to mean that if you simply give the Church a tithe, God will give to you much more of a blessing than you can handle. However, this misses the point of tithing. Others will try to justify Christians tithing by pointing to this verse a proof text that not tithing is equivalent to stealing from God. This also misses the point of tithing.
Remember, "a text without a context is a pretext for a proof text."
The point of tithing in Israel was to ensure that sacrifices were being continually offered to God by supplying the Levites - whose job (and honor) it was to present those sacrifices - with means for living so that they could continue to do so. And in doing so, Israel could remain in right relationship with God. When Israel ceases to tithe, the Levites abandon their duties. When the Levites abandon their duties, the sin of the nation remains unatoned for and compounds.
Look again at Malachi 3:10a where the purpose of bringing in the tithe is clearly stated, "...so that there may be food in My house..." Food for whom? For God? No, but food for the Levites and the priests.
Today, we have a Savior who intercedes on our behalf continually and has no need of food or money, and this has left many Christians wondering where the command to tithe fits in with the New Testament and with obedience to God. I believe the answer lies in the second, lesser-known duty of the Levites: to teach God's Word to His people (Dueteronomy 31:10-13; Nehemiah 8:1-8).
We have today those who dedicate their lives to teaching and to expounding upon God's Word so that His people may know how to live right and holy lives before their God. There is no explicit New Testament command to tithe, however tithing is still very much necessary. Consider:
1 Timothy 5:17-18
Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain," and, "The laborer deserves his wages."
It is our responsibility to ensure that our Pastors, Preachers, Ministers, Bishops, Elders, Presbyters, Teachers, etc. are being taken care of and are able to continue to teach us God's Word. This is also why it is important that our giving be directed to our own Church where we receive our edification.
There is no New Testament command that it must be 10%. True, "tithe" means "tenth", however there is no New Testament command to "tithe". We are instead told to give cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7). So there is no minimum requirement, but there is no maximum requirement either. If 10% seems impossible, begin with 1%. Then, as the Lord blesses you, go to 2 or 3 or 5%. If 10% is doable, then do so, and open up yourself up to giving 11 or 12% etc. Only, do not neglect the poor.
So I encourage anyone and everyone reading this to begin tithing or, if you have been tithing, to continue to do so. I feel like this post started stronger than it ended, nevertheless...let us acknowledge what is God's, honor Him with what is His, and support those who have labored to guide us in understanding, in righteousness, and in obedience to God.

I may add that I don't think Malachi 3:10 can be universally applied either historically or currently. I think the narrative was specifically directed towards the Levitical Priests. Here's some of the reasons why.
1. In the first verse of the book of Malachi the “children of Israel” are addressed in a generic sense. However, since the Levitical Priests were technically also “children of Israel” it’s possible that the passage could have been directed to them exclusively. We see that in Malachi 1:6 and again in Malachi 2:1 the indictments are clearly and specifically directed towards the Priests. From that point forward there is no clear change in the direction of focus for whom those indictments are made. As such, it would seem that the indictment to “bring the whole tithe into the storehouse” was actually directed towards the Priests. We see no clear change in focus from the Priests for the indictment of “robbing God” so it is reasonable to assume that the indictment was directed toward the Priests specifically, rather than the entire nation of Israel.
2. There are reasons to believe that the Levitical Priesthood were the only ones actually allowed in the temple storehouse. Non-Jews were permitted the 'ezrat ha-nashim (the forecourt of the Temple); most Jews were permitted in the 'azarah (inner courtyard); only the priests and Levites were permitted in the heychal (inner court or sanctum); and only the High Priest could enter the kodesh kodashim (Holy of Holies). If only a select people were allowed in the storehouse, then Malachi 3:10 cannot be universally applied. It was the Levites who were accompanied by a Priest, not all of Israel, who were to “bring up the tenth of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers of the storehouse” (Nehemiah 10:38). Therefore, it appears evident that Malachi 3:10 was not directed at any others besides the Priests at the time which would further weaken the argument that tithing is to be universally applied today.
3. Since the biblical tithe had nothing to do with paying money from monetary earnings there is no biblical reason to think that if anyone gives money to any church they will be monetarily blessed in return or otherwise cursed.
4. It’s possible that what was happening at the time was that the Priests weren’t bringing the proper quantity and/or quality of tithe items (produce and livestock) to the temple as directed, perhaps keeping the best elements of their portion of the tithe(s) and offerings for themselves. It’s reasonable to assume that God was indicting the Priests, through the prophet Malachi, to properly execute their part of the system, which included bringing proper sacrifices (quality livestock) and food (produce) that provided sustenance for temple workers and for ceremonial sacrifices. Only the Priests were allowed to conduct sacrifices.
5. The “floodgates of heaven” has nothing to do with monetary blessing. We first find this same term used by God back in Genesis 7:11 where the windows of heaven were open and rain contributed to the flood, as the fountains of the deep were broken open. In Genesis 8:2 it says the windows of heaven were stopped and the rain from heaven was restrained. Isaiah 24:18 also mentions the windows from on high; this phrase is consistently used for rain water. In Deuteronomy 28:12 it reads “The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. In Genesis it was a judgment. In Malachi 3 it was to be a blessing - rain on their crops. The nation lived in large part by their agriculture (Husbandry) and depended upon the rain. God's blessing had to do with the provision of water; no rain and they couldn’t produce adequate crops or sustain livestock. Perhaps this passage is emphasizing that if the Priests mishandled their tithes, which was part of the blessing in the Mosaic covenant, a curse would be put on them. The ground would not yield food because it would be deprived of rain which of course would be a detriment to all of Israel.
6. There is no specific indictment for the entire nation of Israel to tithe as only the products of farmers and herdsmen were accepted as tithes. There is no mention of merchants, tradesmen, carpenters etc… ever bartering their crafts or services as a form of tithing or giving a tenth of their earned monetary wages. Therefore, it is unreasonable to conclude that Malachi 3:8-12 applies to the entire nation of Israel. As such it’s also unreasonable to conclude that it applies to us today either.
7. The book of Malachi was written at the time of Mosaic law in Israel. These laws supported a system of atonement that is now obsolete in the Christian faith as we (Christians) are now under grace, provided by the blood of Jesus. Biblical, systematic tithes were facilitated by ceremonial and civil ordinances that are now obsolete.
8. The word “food” in Malachi 3:10 literally means food. There is no reason to substitute a metaphor for “spiritual food” such as scriptural teaching, which is common in many modern-day churches. Again, it seems that the Priests were indicted to not compromise the quality or quantity of food (produce, grain etc…) that was to be brought to the temple storehouse.
9. Notice how the text reads “bring the whole tithe” in Malachi 3:10. This implies that only a part of what was submitted as tithe items was selectively brought to the temple. It was upon the Levities and the Levitical Priest(s) to “bring” the tithe items from the Levitical Cities to the temple. It makes sense then that Malachi 3:10 was directed towards the Levitical Priests exclusively.
10. There's no way all of the Levitical tithes from the nation of Israel could fit in the temple storehouse. Israelite farmers brought their tithes to the Levitical cities. 1/10th of the Levitical tithe was distributed to the Priests. It would be upon the Priest to bring the sacrifices and tithe items to the temple storehouse.

The tithe was always food.
The verses in Malachi were addressed to the Levites. They were supposed to be tithing off the tithe they received from the people. This tithe was for the widows, the fatherless and the travelers.

In the same Corinthian passage you referred to, Paul scolds the Corinthian church for their lack of giving. He uses the OT ways of providing for the levites as a reference to teach them how to decide upon their giving. Although it’s not a command, Paul is clearly saying Tithing is at least a standard of giving.
But did he scare them into it?
False! Context is key 🔐 2Corinthians Chapters 8 & 9 is about a collection that was being made for the poor saints in Jerusalem, that’s all that was. Those chapters have nothing to do with tithing. And churches were freely & voluntarily wanting to give to help & Paul saids it’s not a command (2Cor.8:8) nor of necessity (2Cor.9:7).

The problem with tithing is that it is the poor that give sacrificial lying say you make $2000 a month it barely covers living expenses so to give 200$ requires not paying bills or not eating enough. Someone making 10,000$ a month giving a 1000$ still has 9000 to live on they still have way more than they need and although they give 5 times more it is not remotely sacrificial they go without nothing and can invest and increase wealth while the guy giving 200$ can't even save enough for a tiny emergency fund it might be harder for the guy on 2000$ to give even50$ than it is for the guy on 10000 to give 3000
I was brought up in a tithing church. Only many, many years later (I’m 71) when I was afforded access to investment counseling, free of charge, do I finally embrace tithing. I tithe in spirit. I look forward to each new month so I can give the gift that He gives me. I completely understand that, should there be a reversal of fortune (and mine are not huge), I may reduce, or even cease writing the check I love to write. I round up .. which is just pennies. As well, I give a small amount of cash ‘on the spot’ when I’m in church. I love God!!

To my knowledge, I’m the only member of my extended family that has ever (and I still am) lived in a ghetto.
From now on, I’m going down to the standard level of American giving to charity {2%}, so I can start saving.
If my income increases, I’ll give more.
I can’t tell you how this frees me up.
Ever since I signed a lease where I’ve been living, I’ve seen no less than a 5% rent increase per year, which is now over $50/mo.
Maybe I can build my savings up which have been devastated by the current economy {or lack thereof}.

Allan this maybe the first time that I actually agree with you on a topic. Yes, your Scriptural base on this is technically sound. But some people need that nudge to remind them that they can give rather than always be looking to receive (Acts 20:35). I also agree that tithing should not be used to "guilt-trip" people into giving. But the funny thing is I still do tithe and give offerings to my church and I can honestly say that I have not suffered any lack as a result. In fact its been a great way for me to keep a balanced perspective on the things that really matter. Another fact to note is that although the New Testament doesn't command the practice of tithing as was done in the Old Testament, It does teach and expect believers to give, and to do so cheerfully. This happens when the Holy Spirit transfers what was written on tablets of stone into the mind and hearts of believers (Hebrews chapters 6-8). So I agree that tithing today is not "required" per se, but a converted believer will have the mind of Christ and thereby may feel the need to so give.
Tithe is a way to worship. I have given tithe for 50 years. Above and beyond tithe is offering. I dont not know of Christian church's requiring tithe. However, I do not know how a church would survive without tithe. I am the treasurer at my church and it pays salary to church employees, repairs, utilities and other ministry's. We do have many cheerful givers at our fellowship. However, it is between you and God. Our fellowship does not preach on tithe at all. So all the replys I am getting, I never said it was Biblical. As I stated, it is between you and God.
Ask John MacArthur (and a number of other well known pastors, by the way) about tithing. He and the others teach against tithing yet they have large thriving churches. He might give you some tips on how it's done...like, studying the Word of God correctly.
Tithing was food not money to pay the church's expenses.

This is why we have so many denominations. We will say something does NOT exist or is NOT in force UNLESS we specifically hear God saying it.
Abraham gave tithes and Genesis 26:5 says that Abraham KEPT the laws and statutes of God. Noah offered sacrifices after the escaped the ark and his description is that he did all that God commanded. He did exactly so. So the logical conclusion is that these laws existed prior to Moses. Even Jacob offered tithes as well.
Circumcision was before the law too so should the male Christians be circumcised? And when Abraham received 10,000 pieces of silver in Genesis 20 did he tithe?

In my giving Bro Allen at my church I give what I can. I give as the Lord puts on my heart to give. If I give sparringly I get sparingly. If I give much the word says I'll get back much. I give cheerfully not with a grudge against it. God has always made a way for me continually!!! I don't do tithes. I give what I can always. God has never ever failed in supplying my needs!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Tithing in the Bible was never about money. Giving is a Biblical mandate so we should be giving of our time, talent and treasure. I give in all 3 areas and I give money each week for the upkeep of the church building: heating and air conditioning, giving to the less fortunate etc.

The reason I tithe is to support the ministry. I don't do it for my pastor, I do it for the ministry. It is my way of honouring God. Besides, my pastor prayed for me to get a job and I tithe to show gratitude.
Tithing … no longer required for entrance but “Behold, He is coming and He will give to each person according to what they have done.” (Rev 22:12)
Have done, not given to pay a bloated staff.
@@tangomike3681 tithe is for the church. We, you & me, are “the church.” When the false churches closed their building doors during covid yet still asked us to send in our tithes & offerings, we had a revelation to never give money to a man in a building who really works for our govt.
Now we give our tithes & offerings to real people who need help. Now with our “tithes & offerings” we have paid multiple rents for a sister in Christ, bought a car for a single mom, housed a single mom, paid a $2,500 car deductible when a crackhead broke into a friend’s car, made Christmas a miracle for hundreds, bought food & clothes for real people in need.
The tithes & offerings are for the church and we, the people, are the church. So stop paying money to a bloated pastor with a nicer car than yourself. Bring your tithe to real people and save souls hitting the streets with real gifts to feed the body and soul.

Watch out for pastors who teach only prosperity - very deceptive!! They mess up people’s heads and make you not want to tithe & offer because they abuse your money for their selfishness. Keep your mind & heart Jesus and tithe & offer after you find the church filled with the Holy Spirit. Continue to pray and seek God.

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

My family & I are tremendously blessed with more than enough & we don’t tithe at all.
But you do understand what you call "tithing" is still not even close to what tithing really was.
If you want to follow it to a T, give your crops, apples and oranges to your pastor and see if he will accept it.
If you believe in tithing, then do it the right way as the Hebrews were required as it was never a money thing. Do it the old testament way and find a Levite priest and bring it to an actual store house. If your pastor is not a Levite priest then the tithing you believe in 2024 is FALSE.
The definition of tithing never changed. You are not doing it the right way. If you CAN'T truly do it the right way then just follow the new convenant of Jesus Christ after His death on the cross and just give to what your heart says you should give, but don't call it a "tithe." It will simply be known as an "offering" and there's nothing wrong with that.

Tithing was to support the Temple, Levites and feast days (Strangers, Poor, Widows and Orphans).
Modern time would be food banks, Veterans organizations, Homeless services, foreign missions. Children's schools or Housing for Humanity.
You mean to tell me, God keeps you healthy, keeps your children safe, provides for you, work situations out in your life, and love you unconditionally and you have a problem with giving him ONLY ten percent of your income. What a shame.

If you attend a church that teaches this you need to Run away and go read the bible for yourself. Tithing was for the Levite priests because they didn’t receive an inheritance. The other 11 tribes were tasked with providing for them.
I am a little country preacher and biblical truth should always be preached, with no exceptions or excuses. how dare me stand behind the pulpit ,pointing my finger at the congregation and there sits a single mom baddeling surviving week to week, or a woman add her children and a rotten worthless husband ot to be found. a elderly couple strapped between buying lass food for medicine or less medicine for food then stand preaching loudly, intentionally god will curse you and your family if you don't tithe and give offerings, knowing in my heart this is totally wrong and I have no authority to preach against the truth of God's word. I would rather die than put burdens upon people that Jesus christ, Paul the chosen vessel, or the diceples never did . I remember when I was making around 60k yearly on my job, I decided to stop giving to my church because of allegations that the pastor was cheating on his wife.
During that time of non-giving my salary jumped from 60k to 100k. I really believe the Lord was showing me to trust in His word vs what that church was preaching at that season.
I got a better job and better church home now, haha.
Always ask yourself WHY. Why am I giving, and HOW am I giving. INTENT is the basic for our faith.
Having been a part of the church my entire 50+ years of life, most of it spent in the prosperity gospel cult (not anymore!), one thing I've discovered. If a pastor is dogmatic about applying Malachi 3-style tithe commandments onto Christians, there's a pretty good likelihood that their theology is majorly off in other important areas, too!
Tithing obligation in the New Covenant is a fraud.
Having said that if anyone makes a "PERSONAL" decision to monthly give 10% of their profits for the work of the gospel, then that's not an issue its a personal thing and choice, but no one in the church is obligated to do that.
Our only obligation is free will giving according to how one proposes in his/her heart.

My father didn't be lieve inviting. He wold argue with his sister and brother in law about tithing whenever they brought up t he tithing issue. So I never gave tithing a second thought, until my older sister or I would bring up the tithing issue up. You have just confirmed my father's belief as well as my own. Thank you for your insight. My wife and I have struggled with tithing and feeling guilty about it. I see now that we should give with a giving heart with what we can. We do support ministries out there that we feel are doing God’s work and I do feel that we should give to our church to support those working full time. We will continue to go to the Lord in prayer about this.
Wow, I am not used to a prominent minister having this doctrinal position. This is similar to the position that my husband has. He said that tithing, the way it is commonly taught, has NEVER been taught in the Bible. IN addition to the tithes you mentioned there was also the command to leave the ground fallow every seven years, they could only harvest their fields once each year and leave the gleanings for the poor, they were not allowed to glean the edges and corners of fields and the year of Jubilee when you add all that up, it amounts to almost 40 percent of their income. That they ignored commands to do so is true, but people who teach tithing today do not remember this.
Many people don't like TITHING because they don't want their money to be reduced, and that's greed!
John 3:16 is the greatest example of GIVING whether it is TITHING, OFFERING, or SACRIFICIAL OFFERING-one of God’s nature is to GIVE, and He is the Greatest Giver. Therefore GIVING is imitating the Goodness of God and it is our offering of WORSHIP.
