Nothing like hearing Momma happy. Love that at the end of the video. Great job April.
And 1:19 the happiest papa in the world. : ))

I know that put a smile even on my face!
This is wonderful, you have "showered" your mom with much love and kindness. Thank you!
As children should. ;) Thanks Mike.
April your videos are great, well explained and informative. Lots of wonderful ideas. I have to make a comment about safety. This was taught to me at 16, 50 years of carpentry experience since then. When you put the circular saw down after a cut NEVER place it on the blade guard. Place it on a table with the blade guard hanging over the edge or turn the saw over and place it on it's top. At times when you cut small slivers of wood they will sometimes stick between the retracting blade guard and the rigid blade guard above the blade. This prevents the retractable guard from closing. You then place the saw on the ground and the blade is still turning. The saw immediately starts traveling. Twice I have seen this and both times the saw went up the operators leg after catching his jeans. One guy had extensive knee damage, the other never had children. Keep up the great work. You are the best shop organizer i have seen.
Great job!!! Mama deserves everything. Total happiness.
Yes! Thank you!
Put tears in my eyes seeing your mom's excitement. Great job!
: ) Haha yeah she was really happy with it.
Thanks, April! I know I've watched this before but it's amazing how a revisit can be so useful.
That path/walk maker thing looks incredibly handy to tidy up our British back garden and have never seen one of those templates before, so will be looking for one now :) x
One of the best DIY videos on the net. Great job kid. And I am a carpenter. Purely enjoyable to watch. Not a lot of blah blah blah and a talking head. GREAT JOB
This Girl's got Skills! Great Job April!
I LOVED our outdoor shower while living in the country. Our house ran on propane and having an outdoor shower during the hot months (which incidentally was about 8 months out of the year) saved us A LOT of money because we did not use our hot water heater other than washing dishes. The outdoor shower meant that we only needed to fill our propane once a year rather than 4 times a year saving us $1500.00 annually.
What a wonderful way you give back to your parents, who raised such a beautiful, talented, and hard-working young lady. Both wife & I find inspiration in your ideas. Thanks April
My wife was wanting an outdoor shower for years at our place in the country, finally put it in about 5 years ago. Its the best thing I have ever done! In the summer I am in it about every 3hrs getting the chiggers off, just a spin to cool off. They will love it!
That genuine joy and thank you from your mom must've been worth it
I love the reaction from people when you make something they love....it's the best feeling.
Watching this video makes me smile your mom is happy good to see you getting excited your smile makes me smile. As for the corrugated plastic its fairly commonly used as roofing on green houses or sheds, people use it for covered porches.
Watched this as I was building my mom a handicap ramp... got to take care of Mama! You my dear are a good daughter... my mom is 89 and I find it rewarding to help her today, as she helped me when I was young and unable to help myself. Bless your pea pickin heart...lol
You really know your processes. Thanks for doing that for your mom.
Her reaction at the end was priceless!
This is a great project / video. Looks like you were raised right in skills and respect. I love seeing people giving back to their parents. good job!
Very nice job April, your mother looks really happy.
The way your mom and dad were so ecstatic was so adorable! This is a really nice build and I can’t help but appreciate seeing someone use their talent to do something so incredibly nice for the people that raised them
That is a really cool idea. You could even make a catch basin to catch the run off to water a garden .
that turned out really nice, great job April!
What a luxury! I live in Florida and an outdoor shower would be so nice for the hot summers.
I live in the Texas Hill Country, about 20 minutes south east of Fredericksburg. I built an outdoor shower a couple of years ago. Since I am 800' or so off the highway, I didn't put up walls. I used a black plastic 30 gallon barrel for water storage and heat absorption. I can assure you, even on the 100 degree plus days, the water from a well still comes out of the ground 60 degrees or so. It can be too cool. This was a great build.
I see from the comments there are a lot of experts out there to help you get the next one perfect ....but I have to say after watching many of your videos ...if you where my daughter, I would be one proud father...God Bless ... just keep going!
That is so cool your mum looked so happy its nice to make mum's smile great job mate
: ) Haha yeah, she was so happy. She's been wanting one for two years now so when I told her I was actually going to do it, she was already very excited.
Love your mom! Cool that you made her a custom shower!
Awwwe your mom was so happy!
what sort of human thumb down this? She made a project for her freakin mom, who ended up loving it, and it looks super snazzy! Some people just can't handle happiness lol
You know how it goes, haters are going to hate
66 grinches
BMAD maybe the the experts who notice how she installed several things wrong like the door brace and failing to put the proper tarp under the brick to drain water away from the garage, or used the wrong screws for the siding.
maybe someone on a smart phone did it by accident? 264k veiwers... bound to be some sort of accident
Is this what is known as a "April Shower"?
Looks great!
Turned out great April. Good job!
You have great handyman skills. The finished project looks nice. I love the upcycled garbage can lid idea for the shower head. I did a quick and fast temporary outdoor shower set up last year so I'll offer an idea for consideration.
Water from a hose bib can still feel pretty cold on the skin even on an August day in Mississippi when the temperature is 105 degrees. It will feel unbearably cold in spring or fall. So to be able to use an outdoor shower during at least three seasons, what works better is to set up a storage container for the water.
A low cost way to do this is to paint two or more 5 gallon buckets with lids black other very dark color on the outside to help them collect heat easier. Building a shower in a spot where it will get full sun during the day is essential or if you don't want to do that, then put the buckets on a stand somewhere in the sun and pipe over the water. Connecting the buckets in series at the bottom will allow for the water to drain from each bucket evenly. Depending on the number of buckets you connect, this system can readily give you 10, 15, or even 20 gallons of nice warm water even on a day that isn't all that warm.
If you want to have a ready way to refill the buckets easily after each shower, just connect your hose bib to an inlet mounted to one of the buckets. With this type system the water temps will typically exceed the air temp. On a 90 degree day you might have 100 degree hot water to shower with! MUCH better than 70 degree water coming out of your hose faucet.
Mounting the buckets 7 foot or more off the ground will give you low pressure gravity flow for the water. Low water flow really makes a soothing shower and doesn't use much water either so the ground doesn't get as wet.
Personally, I never used more than 5 gallons or so of water in one shower with this method. It is really refreshing to have an outdoor shower and very handy. Ya'll are going to love the one you built!
I love how excited your Mom gets! Now that's a good daughter. I have two of them (daughters that is) and I too love it when they help old Dad and Mom. Good job April....
Awesome build April ! I don't think anything feels better than doing things for Mom and Dad, very cool :-)
I would have put the diagonal brace on the door the other direction (from the lower corner on the hinge side to the upper corner on the swinging side) so it would have been in compression instead of in tension.
The way it is, gravity will try to pull the diagonal brace joints apart, the other way, gravity would try to compress them together.
What a great project idea (I might need one myself!) & your Mum seems so happy with it. She always seems to get a great buzz out of helping you on projects - lovely to be able to share the enjoyment of making with the people you care about.
Making mama happy is the greatest triumph! Good job April! Girls with powertools rule!
You're awesome April, that shower looks great and the shower head is a cool touch :)
This would be fantastic for those people that have outside dogs that like to get down and dirty.
Bradley Willoughby ooo never thought about that 👍👍👍👍👍 super cool idea 💡
It’s always good to see mom happy. It’s a beautiful outdoor shower and yes, it’s ideal to use here in Texas after working outside chores. Good job.👍🏻
As we get older half the fun is in making our parent's or loved ones smile. You did good April! Really nice job!
Agreed. I love doing things for my folks.
April, for quite sometime our lives have been mirroring each other in the strangest ways, it all started back when you decided to quit the 9 to 5-er and pursue your hobby full time as I did, then I got that beast of a router from Triton tools, next thing I know, you get a a Triton endorsement, there are several other projects in between that synced up and I just nodded my head in amazement.
Well now it has gone full on surreal cuz I just finished my outdoor shower. Only real difference was I live so far out in the country I din't bother with a door so I had no "experts" hounding me on the proper placement of a certain board.
Rock on soul sister!
: ) Haha we are connected Mr Frog. Good thinking on the leaving off the door! ; ) Cheers.
Cheers!
Gratitude your mom says Everything! :)
I have to make something like this at our Polish very hot summer, of course in the next year because this season of worm is coming to end :)
Greetings from Europe :)
:) Greetings from Texas
best build yet, April! A lot of fun when you include your Moms. She's a natural on the camera like you
Great job as usual April!
Your mom looks really excited and happy. I'm sure its always fulfilling to see her happy, its great motivation to keep going!
The shower looks great!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for mixing your concrete before putting it in the holes. I cringe every time I see someone dump dry mix in the hole and then pour water on top. It doesn't work that way folks. I've dug up too many posts that were done like that and they will get a 1/4 to 1/2 inch brittle crust on the outside but the inside is still powder or sometimes just a crumbly mess.
Pour water in the hole first instead.
VERY creative...nice work!
Awww how awesome to do something like this for your mom
Nothing better than putting a smile on momma's face lol!
Gotta love those April Showers
Things that may be worth considering for people building similar projects:
1. Are you going to build this in a frost region? Think about how you'll drain your lines before winter.
2. Water management: What is the water doing after it hits the ground? (Possibly want to plumb in a drain, maybe let it catch in a garden cistern.)
3. Do you want/need a changing space? Easy enough to add a second 'room' onto the setup with a bench and outer gate. Keep your clothes dry, and avoid overly casual views that might not be welcomed by guests and such.
My sons are building me a 2-room to have a changing space after shower, allowing faster movement of ppl through. A door between compartments means more privacy moving to changing room in a towel.
Good work, Mom. You raised a great kid. I just love watching her projects and have learned a lot from her videos.
picking the right materials and the right look is the hardest part. You are stepping up your game. Simple, functional and it really looks great. Thanks for sharing.
I used to watch because there's just something about a woman wearing a tool belt. Now I watch to learn something. ...Respect.
: ) Thanks Tony. I appreciate the respect.
Nice project! And a great video, thanks for sharing.
But isn't that diagonal brace in the wrong way? AFAIK it needs to go from low at the hinge side to high at the lock side.
Apparently you don't have much rain in your neck of the woods. A wood pile in concrete wouldn't last a year out here. We need connect our wood to a concrete and/or stone foundation well above ground to prevent rot, even if it is treated lumber.
Nice job! Nice reaction from your mom. Liked the shower head. - Jim
I can't get enough of your videos. I watch them over and over. I just installed a 16x20 canopy so I can start building a fence. I live in Texas. Thank you so much for your videos.
God bless you and your family.
April, wonderful job. My husband wanted me to built a outdoor bathroom and I am talking about the whole thing sink, toilet and shower but he ideas and mine a are completely different. I am glad that your mother is very happy with her new shower. See you in your next video. God bless.
That is cool, now I need one!
You are a doll! I'm sending this to all my sons! 😂
The Shower turned out great. A tip on placing post in the ground with concrete put your post in the ground and poor the dry mix around the post then once you get it set the way you want it add water and use a small stick or some other object to pock down into the mix as you add water. It helps to get more even coverage all the way around the post and it makes it easier to get the post set straight.
I kept waiting for something I didn't like but other than worrying about her breathing in the concrete dust, it's all good. Whether it is all ' constructurally' perfect or not, I could not care less!. She responded to the 'customer' and her requests, which is more than any contractors I have ever hired have done. Good DIY explanations- she doesn't insult our intelligence, do things we can't see or spend ages on the same issues, but gives information about why she makes the decisions she did.
Should have replaced the dirt under the shower floor with gravel, so water cannot build up and run off all over the place. Which can happen with continuous use (each member showers after the last with little/no time in between).
wont the concrete slab solve that? she is going to grout it later. wouldnt that be enough?
The water would just puddle on top of the concrete. The idea of a gravel base is it would act like a sponge, soaking up the water and allowing it to seep into the ground at its own pace.
I have an outdoor shower myself, so here in Texas, the threat of scorpions loom in between the stones or nestled down in the pea gravel & then would crawl up when water started flowing. Where if it's solid, a quick inspection is easy enough, before turning on water. The water doesn't puddle long at all. It soaks right in by the time I'm toweled off and dressing. Still wet in between stones but within 30-45 mins even that is dry. Can't beat that Texas heat!
+Talladega Dude As a post construction thought, because of the scorpion issue, April could fill in those crevices with gravel.
@@talladegadude4852 I was thinking the gravel underneath the concrete blocks would be good but I didn't realize the Scorpions would be a problem so good heads up on that
Another great job April. Never mind the wilkerwhoops , easy to fix by swinging from opposite side. Looks fantastic. Dunno who is happier, you mum getting or you giving.
Cheers.
Ha, the WilkerDon't. ; ) Haha
Cheers. So when is the next Wilkerweld project? I wish there were more Mondays in the week, you give us all such pleasure.
Haha, oh probably not until October. I need a fire wood holder so I'm thinking that will be my next welding project. : ) Thank you, I'm very glad to hear you enjoy the videos.
I'll look forward to it. More interesting than the standard welding trolley so many others do as beginner projects.
then you''ll have to get in the whole log splitter world..
Love how you are so close and respectful to your parents. Great job, great attitude, Love your mom's joy.
Thank you so much! Yes, they are my Treasures and I love spending time with them. Thank you for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson Now I understand a little. I asked myself what happened to this lady to allow her to be interested in something that is mostly a man dominated activity as construction. Now I see supportive parents and it makes a little more since. Great job. You rock.
Gets hot here in Georgia too! What an awesome idea!!
Oh! It's at mom's house. I saw the title and thought "So THAT'S why April needed a better backyard fence." LOL!
Yeah this idea doesn't work too well in the city! ; )
Your Mom is adorable -- you look just like her!!! We had an outside shower at our beach house when I was growing up, and it was my favorite place to shower! One suggestion for you is to put in a seat somewhere (even just a small triangle in one of the corners) to make it easier to get dressed/undressed! I bet your folks are going to love this!!!
Good idea on the seat! I was going to add in a few shelves for bottles and what not but now I will also add them a seat. : ) Cheers.
That look struly awesome in termination, color and style. I guess I will put it in my patio within the next 5 years! Awesome!
Awesomeness April is what your Channel should be Named.
This definitely gets a "Like" and thumbs up !
Your mom really likes it too and that is never bad !
Came out great! Mom and Dad approved.
: ) Thank you Ted. Yeah, they certainly approved.
Your mom is so precious
I've had plans to dress up our patio for some time, but your outdoor shower design inspired design changes. I've been back to this video several times as I planned the build seeking tips to make it easier. This video has been very helpful. I'm about 80% through phase II of the project and so far, the "baby" mama is very happy.
That's awesome, my favorite part is that trash can shower head.
Yeah I really love that part as well. My mom gets all the credit for that one!
Your parents were very happy! Nice job! I just started a woodworking channel and I would love your support :)
Wesley Aring ok
Little tip when using those concrete forms. They are designed to only use 1 at a time. So you fill up the form with concrete. Let it set for 5 mins if you mix the concrete a little soupy you may need longer. Then pull the form up and rotate it 90 degrees and repeat. This makes the gaps between the 2x2 forms almost unnoticeable. And keeps you from having to buy a bunch of $20 forms.
And for grout I took dry mortar mix and swept it in to the cracks. Then tamped around on it to get it to settle in to the cracks really good. then spray it down with a water hose nozzle. The"shower" setting works best. Do this slowly, spray it down lightly, don't do so much that water runs off of it, let it sit for a few minutes and soak in, then spray down again, let soak... etc etc until you feel the mortar is completely soaked. Then let dry.
My grout done like this has held up for 2 years now. there are a couple of places where i didn't get the mortar tamped in to place good that flaked. But 95% of the patio look great.
I really like the whole thing!!!! great job!
Such a wonderful daughter. keep up the good work. I love the happy sounds and look on your mom face. You do great work on your projects.
Awesome idea! That floor though can't be too comfortable to move on, I think I'd just do a flat concrete floor sloped away. You should do one of these outdoor wash stations for washing your dogs (or for people who have dogs). I am starting to see those in new home construction for 2000 dollars if you are willing to pay that much for it.
They would probably wear flip flops, not stand barefoot. That's what I do in mine when I use it.
True, very good common sense point I didn't consider.
They could also put one of those rubber mats found in restaurant kitchens with the circular holes in them.
Dude, the people who thumbs down, are idiots. Great video!! Excellent directions and straightforward video. Not many out there like this. Keep up the great work!
You Got Skillz, Girl. Great job, and what a feeling to be able to do this for a parent. 🙏
I am seeing this 6 years later. You are awesome. You remind me of ME 30 years ago. Now I am gonna try building this at 64.
You'll love it! My Mom still does. Thanks for watching.
lol your dad has the right idea. Supervising from the golf cart.
ya I agree! I thought that was pretty funny.
Haha yeah he had the best seat in the house!
The only concern I would have is drainage at the bottom of the corrugated panels. Maybe some holes should be drilled in the wood down to allow the water to run out if it gets in there.Very nice build though. I really dig the dark on light colors.
The water doesn't even hit the side panels. You can stand inside and get undressed without getting your cloths wet so I think it will be ok. However, if it turns out that water does collect then I will certainly drill some holes. ; )
The normal stream probably doesn't, but it will pretty much always splash out when people are in the shower. Also for rain mabye?
What I'm wondering about most: Wouldn't that water be terribly cold for a shower?
+Tim Derks when it's over 100° outside and you've been working out in it, the garden hose water feels really good. It's no difference than the kids playing in the sprinkler.
My grandparents lived in Waco, Texas for awhile, with water from a tower. As summer kicked up, they would just turn off their hot water heater and let it be the "cold" water supply. This could be well water, but even so, after a day outside in 100F Texas heat, a few minutes under a cold stream feels like a lifesaver.
yep was thinking be mighty cold water Lol
an upper container of sun heated water would sure do the trick
neat project...
Very good looking build, I can see why your Mom and Dad are so happy with it. The look really sets off the house. Good Job.
been building decks and porches for years and I usually fill the post holes with the dry quickcrete mix and pack it tight with a shovel handle.... that way if your measurements are off or the design changes before your through, its a lot easier to adjust the posts.... the moisture from the ground will harden the concrete over time ... great project and video
April,
I'm a new subscriber. I am enjoying your videos overmuch. Great job on the shower. I made one a few years ago at my house, but being in Ohio I had to add hot and cold water to it. The water from the well was absolutely frigid, even in midsummer. I wish I had access to your video before I made mine, I saw a few things you did that I would have incorporated.
By the way, is anyone else sick of the "keyboard warriors" on youtube? Every time a person does a project and takes the time to record, edit and post it, you are guaranteed a few dozen viewers who have to chime in and show everyone how smart they are by criticizing the job...."you forgot........" "good job, but you should have......" blah, blah, blah.
very nice. i might make one. ...im no expert, but I think your door is on backwards. the diagonal brace should come from the bottom hinge going up.
You are correct. The diagonal piece is indeed backwards here.
Funny, when she built the privacy fence and gate (a later video) she purposely put the diagonal brace the opposite way (because SO many commented this one was backwards) and SO MANY people were commenting THAT was incorrect! Ha! You just can't please everyone I guess!
Regardless of how it’s supposed to be it’s still pretty cool for and outdoor shower
Outstanding project looks fantastic love the reaction from your mom she seemed real happy and thats what its all about.
Moms are precious…. Good for you April…great work
Yep! She's a keeper! Thanks for watching.
You put the diagonal 2x4 brace on the wrong way on the gate, the gate will sag over time. An outdoor shower is a crazy idea but I live in Canada where it's cold 6 months/yr LOL.
There is a guy in Quebec with a you tube channel he calls the Woodpecker. He built an outdoor shower at his cottage last summer. Many people in southern Ontario who have pools also have outdoor showers because some people want to wash the chlorine off.
you saw that too.
yep.
Ah. I was about to comment on that, but had already added my "two cents". True 'nuff about the brace. Unfortunately.
In Texas, I've spent many a Christmas morning in 80+ degree weather, in shorts and t-shirt. It's hot practically year around and miserable hot most of that.
April add some of that black PVC pipe on the roof in circles to make like 20 gallons of hot water or 30
Yes. In TX you're lucky if it doesn't scorch you coming out of the hose.
The joy your Mom expressed was so worth it, the shower looks great and I can't believe they make a shower head that large.
wont the water feel to cold if its so hot there in texas. I would to run a hot line and mix the water thru a shower faucet to remove the cold shock, cause Iam spoiled LOL
AWESOME JOB APRIL, with the crazy Texas heat, that outdoor shower will come in handy for your parents.
"what momma wants momma get"
Aww so sweet....
very nice video....at 3:44 i think that the 2x4 inside the door is not in the good direction?...
You are correct
I don't believe you are correct. The diagonal is ran from the top hinged to the bottom unhinged portion of the door. Which puts the diagonal in tension instead of in compression.
Actually Tom, I had a few experts comment on that video telling me that I did it wrong and explained the physics behind why loading a diagonal in compression is not a good idea and will lead to buckling. So that's why I changed up the direction on this door and placed the 2x4 in tension instead.
Thanks! I'm learning more with every video. One reason I enjoy your videos is that your honesty of showing yourself as you tackle new ground. This helps me feel that I learn as I go along as well.
seems like these expert aren't really experts. the diagonal is always going in the other direction. i am a carpenter from germany and here every door with a diagonal is on compression. on tension, the screws or whatever holds the diagonal in place, must hold the weight of the door, on compression, it holds by itself. the job of the diagonal is to move the downside pressurefrom the knob-side to the bottom hing. take a look at farmdoors around, that sit for years.
or search for "brettertür" an you find lots of pictures an german construction manuals.
Nice job, Mum should be very proud. Next will be to extend the path across to the shower and some flowers around the base.
Well done! Very creative, craftsman look. Reverse the gate brace add a 5 lb propane bottle and a tankless water heater to mixer valve for year round/off grid use🙏🏻🤓
Translucent material for a shower! O.o
It's the county Wes, who cares? : )
April Wilkerson Haha, good point! Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else
this weekend! -Cheers! :)
Hey sweet! I didn't realize you were coming. Looking forward to hanging.
April Wilkerson Now that I actually completed a woodworking project, I feel like I earned it a bit more :P
Geeksmithing i
I love you projects and videos, one thing bothers me is that you wear your safety glasses on your head instead of your eyes while using power tools. Please protect your eyes
thanks for the videos
Thank you! The only power tool I don't wear them on is when I'm using the drill.
Very cool. Way to help out mom. Enjoy your channel so much. You are such a talented craftsperson. Glad to see your company growing and succeeding.
I made a sidewalk using the same mold. After 15 years or so, it's still works well. Only thing i wish I would have done is filled the cracks to come up more even with the top. Without doing so, it made it somewhat hard to walk on. Thanks for sharing. See you at the WIA show. Hope to attend your meet and greet session. Still have not seen where you will be meeting yet.
