  • UPDATED VIDEO: • How to Shoot Fast like...
    How Lars shoots arrows fast:
    1. Make ultra wide nocks & light draw weights.
    2. Use Slavic draw and put arrow on opposite side of med draw
    3. Reverse cant the bow and don't try this on heavy bows
    It´s actually very easy to shoot as fast as Lars Andersen
    DISCLAIMER: I explain Lars Andersen's archery, I am not Lars Andersen.
    There is no single " The Lars Method", or set in stone tutorial on his technique because he shoots many ways depending on the situation, and his archery has many variations.

    @Lastings 9 лет назад

    When Lars is shooting his fastest I think he is thumb drawing. And it does not look like he uses a thumb ring. thebloodedbroadaxe Am I correct?
    With the thumb draw you should be able to use the side of your index finger to lock your arrow to the bow securely. So you can fire from any position and not have to rely on gravity to keep the arrow on the bow. Then with the arrow in between your fingers you knock it, lock it, draw, and fire without having to shuffle your arrows between your fingers and your loading position.

    • @thebloodedbroadaxe

    Speed Archery Channel,
    Thanks for the video. It's helpful.
    One thing I think differently is that when Lars put arrows between 4 fingers, he is doing thumb draw.
    He has his right hand in a fist shape. His knuckles line is in right angle with bow string.
    The way you are showing wouldn't have that hand angle with string.
    Since Lars quoted that book: www.archerylibrary.com/books/faris-elmer/arab-archery/docs/xliv.html
    It seems that the book was talking about thumb draw for the shower of arrows stunt.
    What's your thoughts?
    Thanks, like your video.

    just gonna give you a few heads ups :P lars aint using modified nocks also he does not switch out the arrows like you do on the second bundles, it's extra movements = too slow, other than that, pretty decent speed, but you might wanna learn to do it without having to look at your bow while putting on the arrows, cause you don't have time to look away from whoever is shooting you, or your target if it's moving :P

    What Lars is doing is trick shooting, he is very good at it, but it is not a deadly technique. With a bow as light as Lars uses you would be hurt, but no killed. it takes considerable force to punch through someones chest for a fatal shot. a 45 pound bow will punch through light leather (imitating skin) and a few inches of meat, a 30 pound bow however will go an inch maybe 2 though said target. again Lars is a fantastic archer, within the realm of trick shooting. for lethal purposes however the technique doesn't have the force behind it to kill someone with every shot, which if it takes twice the arrows to kill you aren't doing your job to its potential.

    • @shawngriffith6901
      @shawngriffith6901 8 лет назад

No one looks at reload.So if you work and practice on blind reload you will be next Lars without creating silly new arrows.You made me laugh with your new idea how he created new arrows.I am not so fast as Lars but never look how I reload. I just do it with out even care about gap in gag of arrow.When I was kid we actually had flat back of arrows and only when I grow up I find world uses different back end of arrows.Good luck with blind loading.

    Hold on a second - am I seriously the first person to notice that Lars (and other people emulating him) are NOT using a thumb draw? He's not using a Med draw either. He's using a PINCH draw. It's the absolute weakest and least biomechanically efficient way to pull the bow back. But it's the fastest way to nock an arrow because it combines the nocking motion and drawing motion into one.However, it just reinforces all the criticism that this is in fact NOT historically accurate, nor meant for warfare in any way. You can't pull a bow back with the pinch grip once the draw weight reaches a certain point. That's physics. It's unavoidable. There's no amount of training that will give you fingers powerful enough to pull back a warbow with a pinch grip. There's a good reason people use the Med draw. It's best compromise of accuracy and power out of all the methods. And as you can see from Lajos Kassai, you can still do it plenty fast :)

    • @Videosaurus_Wrex
      @Videosaurus_Wrex 9 лет назад +2

      i imagine real history would have had a wide variety of people doing a wide variety of things, especially when it came to people shooting arrows for a living or to stay alive, some people would have done only exactly the methods they were taught and reinforce that explicitly, others would break what they are taught down further and practice everything about it they could learn as there are advantages and disadvantages for every technique, the key to surviving is reading your environment and situation for best fits this situation, sometimes the disadvantages to a pinch grip would have been in your favour or cancelled out by the situation and the same would be true for every other grip, true historical warriors, that at least mastered the skill, probably practiced everything they knew.
      the same is true for any skill and talent, masters of card tricks practice every kind of shuffle they know, masters with a sword practiced with both hands, there's a famous samurai who wrote the five rings that usually fought with two swords, one long and one short but he practiced with two long blades.

    • @alexstover5283
      @alexstover5283 9 лет назад +1

      vetzal "there are advantages and disadvantages for every technique". And the disadvantage to the pinch grip is that it's weak. That's a BIG disadvantage, so much so that it's likely no one ever used it in a combat situation. Maybe for rabbit hunting, but not a warbow. Sorry, that's just biology and physics.

    • @Videosaurus_Wrex
      @Videosaurus_Wrex 9 лет назад

      and you clearly missed my point, if he's predominantly using the pinch grip it's likely due to the performance purpose of this video, explaining the pros and cons of various grips was not the purpose of lar's video.
      exactly as you stated, there are cases where the loss of power doesn't matter, it's still going to puncture it's target and speed is more vital or somebody is showing off how fast they can shoot a bow, extremely god damned fast.

    • @alexstover5283
      @alexstover5283 9 лет назад +2

      vetzal Lars expressly states that what he is doing is "combat" archery, and does not admit that what he is doing is speed for speed alone. He gets so much flak because he misrepresents what he does. It's still awesome, don't get me wrong, but it's not what he and millions of admirers seem to think it is.

    • @alexstover5283
      @alexstover5283 8 лет назад +1

      His chainmail test was laughable because his arrows did not actually penetrate very far, nowhere enough to significantly wound the person underneath. Chainmail was only one component of a hybrid armor system. The gambeson underneath stopped the arrows, and the quality of his chainmail is questionable. I’ve done my own tests with alternating riveted & solid ring mail (8mm ID) with padding underneath, high powered bows, and ballistics gel, and the armor is really effective stuff. (Actually in the process of making a formal video on this.)
      There are also many historical examples of mail and textile armors’ effectiveness in real life (both as a combination and as textile alone), including in the cultures that he loosely derives his techniques from:
      "…every foot-soldier wore a vest of thick felt and a coat of mail so dense and strong that our arrows made no impression on them... I saw some with from one to ten arrows sticking in them, and still advancing at their ordinary pace without leaving the ranks.”-Bahā’ ad-Dīn Yusuf ibn Rafi ibn Shaddād, describing the Battle of Jaffa (1192)
      “the Turks were fleeing before him, they (who shoot as well backwards as forwards) would cover him with arrows. When he had driven them out of the village, he would pick out the arrows that were sticking all over him; and put on his coat-of-arms again…he would charge them again, sword in hand, and drive them out.”-The Memoirs of the Lord of Joinville, circa 1305
      “By good luck, I found a Saracen's oakum tunic; and I turned the split side towards me, and made a shield of the tunic, which served me in good stead, for their fire-darts only wounded me in five places and my pony in fifteen.”-The Memoirs of the Lord of Joinville, circa 1305
      “The enemy climbed after, in order to capture him, and the more distant rabble shot arrows at him. But by the will of God his armour protected him from the arrows.” -Odo of Deuil, writing during the Second Crusade, 12th century A.D.

      Other commentators (including professional military historians such as Mike Loades) have called Lars out on this very directly, pointing out that if a 30 pound bow can penetrate chainmail, there is something very wrong with the mail.

    You're actually doing it the wrong side of the bow and you are holding the arrows wrong. :L

    "It´s actually very easy to shoot as fast as Lars Andersen"
    Great why don't you upload a video of you shooting 3 arrows in less than 1.5 seconds with a 100 percent accuracy rating against targets more then 10 feet away... if its so easy?
